Online is driving me crazy

Hey guys!

Maybe some of you have the same problem as me but ever since I got GT5 back in November I have been having serious problems with the online part of the game.

I've been trying to actually play online ever since I got the game and so far I managed to finish one or maybe two races...it's ridiculous. I can connect to the servers without any problems, then I choose a lobby I want to join which has at least 4 bars. I can go for a test run and even start the race normally. But then after a few minutes the other cars just seem to loose control and crash, like if all the other players got disconnected at once and I'm the only one left. And this always happens.

It's gotten to the point where it's not worth it anymore, which is a shame because the few races I managed to actually finish were quite fun. I really love this game but online has been nothing but frustration for me so far.

Every other game I play online works perfectly fine. I read almost all the threads about online connectivity problems saying it's because I'm playing over Wifi, but then how come I don't have any of these problems in any of the other games.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

First problem:

Internet is Austria may not be the best in the world.

Second problem:

GT5 has huge bandwidth draw. Even if Wi-Fi works on other games, it's much harder for it to work on GT5.

Solution:

Plug in your PS3 with an ethernet cable and see if that improves the situation. If not, check what kinds of speeds your getting with your current ISP and check if other local ISP's can offer greater data speeds.

It's not even about the country you're in, there's places all over that have less quality internet connections. 2 people in the same country might easily have different quality internet connection.
Unfortunately, if you have a crappy internet connection, that could be the problem.

Other possible problems:

YES GET HARD WIRE TO PS3.
I don't think you will find ANYONE who says it's not better... Because it just is better.
And it doesn't matter how well it works for other games - it's not working for THIS game, and you want it to - so go hard wire! (Use cat 6 network cable)

Another - make sure all your sockets & wires are in good condition. A corroded wall socket where you're internet comes in, may need replacing. Wall sockets DO NOT LAST FOREVER. We had to replace ours just some months ago. It was getting corroded.
Could it effect one game before another? In our case, it effected certain types of internet first - primarily streaming - but web pages loaded fine (the connection speed page, for example said everything was fine!!! LOL)

Also - do NOT be using the internet for other things like downloading videos or using SKYPE or whatever when you're racing online. Some things may not effect racing online... but if you're downloading a bunch of stuff while you're playing, well, then it shouldn't be surprising if you have connection problems or lag.

I caved in and ran my cat6 cable about 50 ft to the PS3 a few weeks ago and I have only been disconnected once since doing so. With the wifi, I'd get disconnected 1-2 times an hour.

Get an ethernet cable. I got it and I have never lost connection to my own lobby or the server. Not once did that happen after I got it. Seriously, give it a try! :)

QFT - I have heard this a lot.
And I'm glad I started out with using a cat 6 cable.
It probably explains why I've not had a lot of the problems I hear about here. Like lag, latency, disconnects, etc.
In fact, I don't usually feel the need to tune most cars for so-called "online physics" (frankly, i think people who see a huge difference with "online physics" are experiencing mostly lag & latency issues. I don't see a big difference online compared to my practice with the same settings. Only in the most touchy of cars.)

👍 Lititiz... I have a friend who moved to Lititz & never heard of it before otherwise! :)
