I'd like your opinions on how best to deal with this.

I've recently encountered a person who just demands cars by simply entering the model name of the car he wants in the subject line and then follows it up with "have you sent it yet?"

I replied to the last one with "another good car" trying to subtly hint that he wasn't actually asking for anything.

Now call me old school, but I've always thought "please would you mind sending a xxxxxx model if you have it when you've got a free send slot and let me know if there's anything you're after" sort of request tends to go down better.

How should I politely let him know that he's being rude? I dislike blocking anyone, especially from this fine community. Also I believe that although we are virtually anonymous on the internet, certain standards should still be upheld when interacting with one another.

Your opinions ladies and gentlemen?

Moderators: My apologies if this should be in the trading forum.

Well, being polite costs nothing, so I personally would expect some politeness. I'm not expecting really polite stuff (this is the Internet after all), but if someone is really not polite then I would do the trade and then ignore them.

A fair point, this is after all the internet, but bear in mind this is not trading this is giving away for nothing...I'm not really expecting anything more than a short sentence and a please.

Just be honest. They might think you are being a jerk but at least you keep your integrity. Unfortunately frittering around the subject just makes more miss understandings.

Couldn't agree more... I give random stuff to polite people.

Yes I just recently had a very polite trader named level42fan who I told I had a mazda concept type 1 and 11 and asked "could I please have it? What do you wish to have?" And I gave both cars for free

Allow me to elaborate and use your thread as the example:
*Clears throat, Drinks water* Uh uhhh,

King, you are an epic dumbass for starting yet another useless thread, seeking desperate opinions from late night internet travelers. Grow a pair and deal with your problems,

-or-

King, I'd really like to express genuine interest in your dilema, unfortunately I don't have time tonight as the kids are over. Perhaps we can talk about this later?

Which one caught your attention and ended the issue the quickest? It is the internet, I'm polite to folks up to a point. I use the internet strictly for entertainment, when someone becomes "bothersome" I remove them from my list. Afterall, there's far too many good friends to be had.

I think you just just say you don't have this car or that car and if he starts getting annoyed hell eventually stop and leave you alone.

Sir, If you look at the little box over to the left you will see that I live in New Zealand and its just past 7:15 pm, the sort of time I like to be getting my children ready for bed, I note with interest it seems to be 3:15 am in Florida which seems to be quite late for your children to be up.

I am not seeking desperate opinions from late night internet travelers. I genuinely wanted to know how other members of this community tactfully dealt with such issues without causing offense .... thank you for your contribution to this discussion.

No, don't lie. Just be honest. Say no, you were rude. No!

You've bumped your head, and completely misread my reply. I offered two examples of how to deal with the guy. You are going to offend him no matter what your choice of words will be, so do it quickly or drag it out and deal with it.

I realize your in NZ, and here in FL it is 2/3:15 depending on what side of the state your on. Fortunately, I do not have children as I am far too greedy to afford them.

Sir, neither of your replies addresses my question, the first seems to insult me, calling me a dumbass for starting a useless thread, which I don't believe it is.

How do either of these statements address the issue of online ettiquite?

I do however agree with you when you say "You are going to offend him no matter what your choice of words will be, so do it quickly or drag it out and deal with it." Good advice right there. Thank you sir.

I would say your best bet is to let them know straight at least they will know where they stand.

I have this guy who, as of yesterday, is still sending me messages like "I will trade a Veyron for a Sauber C9". He kept spamming my inbox with messages like this. I kept telling him about the trade limit, and yesterday I just put some of my fast cars online and told him about it and he's been spamming my inbox with thanks.

Try being polite no matter how rude he is. If he continues being rude and you get tired of it, just ignore him. Don't be rude back at him, because then you'll be the guy he was being in the first place.

You should man up! You don't owe him anything, you don't know him, cut him off. If someone is rude to me, especially if I don't know them, block!

If you pussy foot around this, people are just going to take advantage of you, over the internet and in real life.

Lastly, you're not getting anything "real" (money etc.) out of trading, if someone (especially if they only want but not give) doesn't come back to you, its their loss not yours!

Well, I just went to send this person a message and the guy had sent me three new identical messages, so all I can imagine is that he's new to gt5 and doesn't know about the trade limits, so messaged him and politely told him about the limits and such.

Thank you all for your input here. By the way @bluntified, I "manned up" long ago, I still however expect myself to be respectful and polite to everyone I encounter in real life or online, from the street sweeper, to the Queen irrespective of what they can do for me or I for them. Mutual respect, I believe is essential for a society, no matter if online or down at my local shops, to function well. Kind regards sir.

Edit: Just had a reply back from him, he is new to GT5 and he apologised in no uncertain terms... my faith in human nature is somewhat restored 👍

So, what was the purpose of this thread again? If you are already set on upholding your moral ground, what was the point of asking others for opinions? I'm starting to think that other guy who said this thread was pointless, was on to something.

Anyways, glad to hear you worked out your situation.

The point was to see if others had encountered similar situations, and how they would or did deal with it without offending members of this community. I value the opinions of people here because they play the same game and trade with each other like I do. Not a pointless thread, I was just asking for advice. If one thinks a thread is pointless, surely its better not to waste your time replying to it. 👍

I guess its hard to remember that on the internet there are more diverse types of people also its hard to judge how a person is putting their point across or if thier intent is insulting.

Also people who speak English as a second language can sound funny.. Very funny...

Ehh, you don`t think of me, do you???

To be on topic:
If you ask kindly you will get it (probably for free). If you`re willing to give back (and act like that) your reputation will grow.
If you behave constantly like that you could lose your savegame and will end up with a garage full of cars and a truck full of tickets within a few days/weeks.

The community does not forget. Both positive and negative... :sly:

Wow!! you so completely missed XX's point with his either/or premise, it's almost comical. I notice you conveniently left this out of XX's quote, the part that puts it all in context:

Which one caught your attention and ended the issue the quickest?

His point made perfect sense but you have to be able to see beyond the simplistic to get it. Your inability to understand this pretty simple premise is probably at least part of the reason for your current dilemma.

I did mind "short sweet and blunt" when trading as you're both getting what you want and doing eachother a favour.
What I dont like is when you send somone a car/item for free because they have made a thread about loosing their game data and then they dont even bother to say thank you. Or you send them car/item and then send a message telling them you have sent it and they reply with "ok" or even worse just "K"

Makes them seem very childish and ungratefull, and as I dont dupe anything I send it makes me wish I had'nt of bothered.

Is there a prize for missing the point by the biggest distance? I am trying to ask about people being disrespectful and impolite and here you are abusing me. His post missed the mark and yours just backed it up.... The original issue has been resolved. Enough! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5kPUFxXYLs

Internet or not, politeness & good manners cost nothing. How you deal with/speak to people is a reflection of your class.

In that case, I'm like school on Sunday...

...no class.
