PlayStation 5's New User Interface Revealed in Special State of Play Episode

Can't watch the video in workplace so I will look later but from the thumbnail pics I've seen, looks very good! 👍

Looking forward to this when the console arrives next month, I like the PS4 interface but it can be a bit clumsy at times.

Also plus that the store is now integrated rather than being a separate ap, I just hope the search function is much better than the PS4!

Well it's right between two videos of Uncharted Lost Legacy, so probably.

But it's all just placeholder/mock up content anyway.

It all seemed a bit confusing, with things not clearly labelled in game, which was the default view he seemed to go into. Thumbnails over the top of (messy) backgrounds, with small icons in the thumbnail differentiating what it is, a screenshot, a different level, news, whatever. As with all these things, actually using it may be different, but just from this, it was a bit visual overload for me. Just as an idea, put each thumbnail in a box/border and colour code it.

The console interface seems to be a bit too minimalist to me, with small icons, and no text below each icon to say what it is. Yes, they do say what they are when you click on them, and maybe hover over them, and you may get used to what the icons represent, but an option to turn text labels on and off would be appreciated if it is not an option already.

They said there would be more vids about it on the run up to release, so we'll see if it becomes clearer and/or more intuitive.

My biggest concern was about UI, so i'm pretty much happy on what they've shown us!

Screenshots of this UI was posted in the GT7 forum section a couple of weeks ago, and it was labelled as fake.

Maybe I’ll change my mind if we can apply a more neutral theme, but with so many cartoon colors I cannot grasp what to think. Show me a smooth blue background, and then we can talk.

From this video you would think Sonys target audience are 12-14 year olds or something, 3 childlike/teenage looks games to me.

Those "Cards" with the "60%" and 30% look like sales methods. Looks like the whole OS is aimed at making even more money for Sony and making purchases easier.

I'm waiting a bit to buy anyway, 1 maybe 2 years. I bought PS4 for GTAV (again) and GT sport but it took PD so long that there was a new version of the PS4 available before GTS.

Waiting on some racing games, Test Drive Solar Crown and the BTCC game. Bit of a let down (again) tbh Gran Turismo isn't a launch tittle, would increase sales all around imo if it was.

Looking forward to it but I'm holding back a bit. Going over to the dark side and Xbox just for forza horizon 4 and flight simulator

They only mention what happens when you tap the PS button, but what happens if I double tap it instead?

Can I jump straight to settings like on PS4, where, if I leave the network settings on in the background, I can double tap netween them and the game I play.

It is in no way related to the Diamond Casino & Resorts (un)lucky wheel, just asking for a friend. :P

PlayStation are top quality all the time I love PS I’m getting more and more excited about the PS5 than I initially was. The more they show the more pumped I’m getting for it. I seriously didn’t expect them to top the PS4 by so much imo.

Except the ones you mention with the 60% and 33% markers are Activity cards which have nothing to do with making money. They are automatically generated based on information obtained from the ongoing/upcoming Activities and related Objectives within the Activities.

Developers can push news to certain cards when looking at the overview but even then they can't just put anything they want on there. The majority of the cards are designed to give the player useful info on their game/friends etc.

I haven't heard of this trick, could you please DM me it?

I've not heard of this before, but if you could get a trick that worked with the GT Sport daily mileage reward wheel, then you'd REALLY be talking

Maybe I'm getting old, but I prefer the clean and simple PS3 XMB with discrete icons and clear submenu layers. PS4 is already too cluttered for my taste. PS5 looks like total ADHD trigger. Seems like they want you to jump between games every 5 seconds and upload/watch as much photos/videos as possible. The younger generation might love it, but for me I like to just focus on playing the game with minimal distractions.

I hope there's still a way to completely quit/shutdown a game. Leaving it constantly suspended in RAM for quick resume doesn't sit well with me. Then again I grew up in an era of manually saving everything to memory cards :P

Playstation always had the best UI. I still think the XMB (PSP/PS3) was the best though. It was like the good old Dual Shock design. Simple; functional.

I kind of miss the old console days, to be honest. I hope the rumors that Playstation games are coming to PC is true. I really miss Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo and God of War. That would be the only way I could play these games.
