This Fortnight's Theme
In case you forgot, the winner of round one of The Livery Editor Competition was @BLiTZ, and he has cooked up something really exciting for this third round. Without further ado, let's hear what he has to say:

From Impul's iconic Calsonic blue that's graced Nissans since the early 80's, to Martini's signature stripes dominating the world stage both on gravel and tarmac, there are certain liveries that stand the test of time.

Whilst on the surface the designs may look the same each year, when you look closely at the little details you see that they subtly evolve over time. Sponsors come and go and branding evolves so with that in mind, this round's theme is 'Then & Now'.

Your challenge is to create two distinct liveries demonstrating the evolution of a team's colours using one 'old' car and a second newer model.

Whilst its very easy to plaster the same decals on two different cars, the devil is in the detail with this one and the key is to try and make both liveries look period-correct. So take you time when choosing decals and select versions that are suitable for the age of the car.

CARS: Any; one 'old' and one 'new'
LIVERIES: Two distinct liveries demonstrating the evolution of an iconic design
USER MADE DECALS: Yes
LOCATIONS: Shiretoko (for your main images. This has to comply with the rules. See below)

1) Choose the Shiretoko scape (found by searching all locations and refining by 'Japan'and 'Snow'):

2) Apply the following settings:

Shutter Speed: 1/60 (as it's not a panning shot I don't know that this is important)
Focus: Single AF

Environment Settings
Aspect: 16:9
Orientation: Landscape

Temperature: 9800 K

Exposure correction: EV +2.0

Special Effects
Chromatic Aberration: 5

3) Place your car in the middle of the scape at a suitable angle:

4) Zoom in to 102mm (certain cars may require more or less to fit in the viewfinder) and move the camera until you're happy that the car is centred in the shot:

5) Move the focus to the nearest corner of the car (I normally centre on the headlamp closest to the centre of the image) and take your shot.

6) For a shot of the rear, go back to the Car tab and hit R2, switch to Camera and refocus (again I use the tail lamp nearest the centre) and take the shot. If the car has moved off-centre then move the viewfinder and adjust the zoom as you see fit.

For new cars/liveries simply find the scape in your library and reopen and change the car, then rinse and repeat as above.

UNIQUE RESTRICTIONS:
1. Must use one 'Old' and one 'New' model. The cars don't need to be from the same manufacturer or even the same class of racing so long as they aren't from the same year.

2. The liveries can be fantasy or real or a mixture of both (e.g. a replica of an old car and how it may look today if the team still existed or how a new team could have looked if they were racing in an earlier time).

If the rules are to post 640px wide photos then that are the rules. In my opinion it‘s idiotic to post huge ass photos and let the forum resize them to fit the screen, it causes heaps of useless data traffic.

Yeah maybe he should make a post 24h before the deadline and tag everybody who posted too big photos 💡

No problem, I'm away 2nd week in May (when 04 goes live) so @Nuschel01 will have to tag in.

in regards to image size, by using the quote method I used before, big images shouldn't matter too much as it will force thumbnails until the viewer expands the quote themselves so it keeps it all neat when the page is first opened.

It still loads the full sized images tho, which generates unnecessary data traffic especially for people on phones or with a bad connection

Fair enough. For the sake of the Poll thread it's almost worth limiting each entry to one image (two if multiple liveries) and linking back to the user's subimssion post in the entry thread.

And for the sake of the poll you could almost mandate that the poll image has to be uploaded via the forum's image uploaded which reduces size automatically. Any high-res images can be kept in the other thread as for the purpose of voting you don't always need 4K shots.

Yeah I almost did that, since the automatic poll creator only makes one image (the first image posted). But we'll see. Having front and rear image in the poll would make it easier to view every entry in its fullest as I think at least 50% of the people here won't click to view full size anyway, so why would they "click back to the submission post"? (noone has complained that the image hotlink was missing in the poll since the beginning )

But like @SlipZtrEm said to me, maybe one way to make the poll is to use the gt.com preview image? What do you guys think of that?

True but having variable size can be a problem. If a page becomes image heavy it will most likely crash at times, just look at the "GTS screenshot and video thread" that was popular a few months back. It crashed the browser on my phone very often also it looks more neat if every entry is the same size

But of course I will make changes if needed, the rules now aren't set in stone.

Personally I‘m fine with how the rules for photos are now, it‘s just a bit unlucky using the quote-feature. If I‘ll actually get to setup the coding for the poll I‘ll try to make it different again but also try to keep it clear what entry is what number.

The 640 images are small and blurry when looking at the far side of the car, check any one when you click it. Using the GT Sport profile pics by pasting the address into the pic tool is easier, better quality and far more convenient for everybody.

The data traffic argument is irrelevant on a site which lets you post videos and pics of any size on any other thread.
