Hi, I recently bought a logitech driving force gt and I'm just getting used to it. I was just wondering if anyone could explain to me what the power steering assist does, on my wheel its is currently on and I don't know if it would be easier and better to turn it off. Responses are greatly appreciated. :)

I'd try myself if I were you. Only way to the perfect answer to your question my friend.

when you start track and field they teach you to run, when you start acrobatics they teach you how to fall.
Unless you're a top notch driver already, learning from your betters should be your priority.

I turned it on by accident once and it was horrible. When making a quick turn the wheel would instantly lose all force feedback - that assist part I guess. I couldn't drive it like that and quickly changed back. Try it without it and see.

speaking of that menu, what exactly do amateur-professional-simulation steering settings entitle?

Thanks for all the responses! Will definetly experiment with it off. However could someone just explain to me what having it on/off does?

When in the menu to turn it on or off, just peek at the bottom of your screen and the explanation to what it does is scrolling across the bottom.
You will have to experiment to see which you would prefer. 👍

Yeah thanks, I don't really understand the description so I was wondering if someone could explain it better to me, but anyway thanks and I will have to experiment 👍

Power assist = Power steering.

it sucks. Ill never use it. It cuts down on the force feedback, making it easier on your arms. replaces FFB with horrible clicking clacking sounds.

Oh right okay, thanks 👍 will have to try it out later to see if i do any better, but anyway thanks for all the responses

without power steering the wheel provides direct feedback from the wheels, where the wheel is turning is where your wheels are.

Your arm muscles will soon improve. I very recently turned it off and it is better but but stiffer meaning you are working harder. So for those perfect arm, turn it off 👍

Haha thanks for the tip! Gonna try with it off now!

nope. do not use power steering with a wheel. it turns for you and throws the timing way off. wheels fight enough allready, no power steering.

The power steering option does NOT steer for you,it"lessens the resistance when making sudden turns".For instance,if you get into a slide and you counter-steer,it is when bringing the wheel back to centre, exiting the corner and recovering the slide that it kicks in,putting less damper on the wheel.
Making it easier to turn, but NOT doing it for you.

Best keep it ON and prolongue the lifespan of the wheel. Plus its more realistic, especially when drifting.
When it's off, the wheel is proving unrealistic resistance (that isn't there) which makes it harder to turn the wheel, so that you can turn gradually. This does not happen in real life. When the tyres lose grip, you're able to turn the wheel with your pinkie (in cars with no power-assist).
So if you're after realism and a 1:1 experience, turn it on.

👍

A huge amount of resistance is gone when making sudden turns. I had this OFF for the first 10 months of having a DFGT, but I prefer it to be ON for most cars.

All that is exactly why I've had it on for half a year now, around the time of Spec 2.

are you sure. power steering feels like its turing for me when entering a corner. maybe its the assist helping out with the ffb motors. regardless, i dont like the effect.

Took the words from my typing hand. 👍
Anyone who has had a car sideways or sliding IRL would know that resistance is not realistic.
