Ok.

Here is my opinion.

Having bought my PS2 almost a year and a bit ago, this is what I have come to think. Initially I was impressed with the machine, having played Timesplitters and RR5 when Keeno_UK got his machine around november 2000, my interest lessened and I went back to playing my lovely Dreamcast. Eventually around september 2001 I purchased a PS2 for the amazing price of £150 (this was when it was £200 most places) the first games I ended up with were F1 2001 (sony version) and GT3. F1 2001 I wasnt really interested in but GT3 err well im still playing GT3 at the moment. Thats the thing, during the era of the PSX I had so many different titles to chose from. FinalFantasy7/8/9, Xenogears, Einhander, G-Police, Ace combat 2/3, Toca series, Tekken, Soul blade, allot of odd Japanese games that I bought on implulse. I mean I still have quite a few nice games for the PS2 GTA3,GTA VC , Timesplitters 2, Toca Racedriver, Pro Evolution Soccer, MGS2, GT3, GTConcept and some other games.

But the games dont seem to appeal as much as they used to. Fo example I got hold of metal gear solid on the PSX and I played the thing to death. MGS2 however I played it, thought it was great and played it a total amount of 5 times. I have a total of around 10 games and I have only completed 3 of them. Ive had GTA3 for the last year and I still havent got off the second city. Maybe its just me and im starting to enjoy videogames less and less, or maybe the games are becoming less and less apealing to me. What do you think?

In my case I think its a bit of both, although I can play games for stupendous amounts of time.

What a long rant that was. :)

you truly do suck :P

Seriously though, I think your just growing up and growing out of games. Im doing the same thing. They just all seem to be losing there appeal. Dont blame it on the lack of good titles on the PS2 though or I will have to kill you.

You truly are an ARSEHAT :P

I was just trying to say, like "games were better back in the good ole days"

Maybe your right.
Somehow the only game I regularly play is GT, or any game that can be played 4 player with my mates.

Ive grown outta Mario and Zelda games and all that. Im more into relistic games such as GT3 or games like Ghost Recon or Counter Strike. Face it, some people just grow out of them.

But I wasted most of my childhood playing useless games.

Actually I never liked Mario, sonic would own him hard.

Also speaking of realistic, MGS2 comes under that sort of category. And ive only played it about 5 times.

MGS2 is too much watch, not enough play. Games just dont hold my interest as easily as they used to. I too wasted my childhood sitting in front of a tv playing games. From 4 all the way to about 18, I just locked myself in my room and shut myself off from the world. I regret it now that I think back. So much wasted time, so much of my life gone, wasted on a video game.:(

From 4 all the way to about 18

Damn! are you sure that early?

I remember playing games around when I was 8, I think. But yeah when fantasy is better than reality, you tend to overindulge.

MGS2, yeah thats about it, another reason why I didnt bother with FFX, I played it, realised that i was watching more than playing. Then gave up and gave it back to my mate.

It may have been earlier than 4, I grew up with games my whole life and just this year I figured somethng out... IM A LOSER! Gmes have deconstructed my whole social life up 'till this point. I let them totaly overwhelm me and they took a hold of me and wouldnt let go. So much wasted time, so many regrets. :(

Well I have my lovely PS2 :computer:, :gt:3, GTA VC, TOCA and plenty of DVD's :cd: and wouldn't have any other console on the market?

You can never grow out of video games? :cd:

What are you thinking????? Ever since i bought my PS2, i have loved console gaming. I have more games for PS2(and have bought more in a year) than I bought in the entire time i owned an N64 and that console sucked arse. I hate Nintendo now because of the 64. Dont get me wrong, Nintendo designs some great software and hardware, they just charge way to much for their products. $80 freaking bucks for a cartridge is ridiculous! Thats why it failed as a console. It was a waste of four years of my life as a console gamer. I can truely say I have been converted over to the PS2 camp for the time being unless Nintendo gets its act together and stops catering only to eight year olds. Xbox is a decent console too, but the controller is just way to bulky for my tastes.

i can proudly say this.....i started gaming in 1998 and i don't think i have wasted a second, also about out growing games, it's very true. however it is odd. older people play videogames, yet bthey avoid nintendo as they have outgrown mario, but i do not feel this way, i play WHAT I ENJOY! :)

Hey race idiot you don't lie a lot of games anymore in general cause u still haven't completed metal gear solid 2 and you was kinda dissapointed with toca race driver lately all its been for you is my copy of smackdown SYM!!!!!!. I reckon you have different interests now thats all. Look at me I haven't played street fihter for weeks or bought a bloody copy of tekken 4 yet. Oh and Pro Evolution 2 is well the bees knees :D

Heh.

WOW!

YOU POSTED SOMETHING!!
YOU NEVER TOLD ME!

Oh I should really type without caps lock!

Well I did lend ya my copy of GTA Vice city for smackdown!
I think thats a fair swap.

POST MORE!
But dont post whore.

Wow I can rhyme!

that was the first game i set my eyes on, and since then i was captured by the concept of videogames.
and i will tell you i never had it easy when it came to please my self with a video game. through out my teen age years i always got into fights with my dad over video games. i was never able to sit down and play a game peacfully. i always had to wait for him to leave the house, and a lot of times he used to hide my console away from me. and other times i used to hide it myself.
there where times when my console, it was a sega megadrive also known as genesis, was taken ao far away that you have to drive 3 hours to get to it!!! it might sound weird but that's the way it happened. now at the age of 26 i am racing oriented when it comes to video games and i only buy other genres if they are really worth it.
guys, and i am not kidding here. while i was writing all of this i felt pain, pain because i got to remember all of the things i had to go through in order for me to defend my passion. i was and still am passionate about video games. 2 more years and i will finish my political science major with masters and i still have not lost interest in video games. it not that we loose interest, but the demands of life are taking us away from it. but we will forever stay loyal to the one thing that made us happy, and that is video gaming. :D

i believe you are just realizing how you miss the old games you used to play and how much fun they were. i had gone through a time like that when i resented giving away my snes because i loved playing mario so much since it was a fantasy type game in which i was into at the time, though i still to regret it every once in a while i realize that the games i have now are just as fun though they may not be fun in the same way.

Wow, this is really crazy ... I don't know that I've even seen this thread before, but the opening post is pretty much the way I feel.

I think for the majority, I now have a life and don't spend as much time sitting in front of the TV. Actually, I spend a lot of time in front of a computer, but that's mostly at work. During my off hours I'm usually spending as much time as I can with my friends.

I own a PS2 and about 10 games. I also own an XBox and about 6 games. Today I played for all of 20 minutes. Yesterday ... maybe 30. But there have been months that have gone by when I didn't even turn them on. And there was also a time when I played GranTurismo3 for several hours on end (like six hours, no lie ...).

Maybe it's a good sign that you don't play your games as much. Perhaps it means you have better things to be doing with your time. I know it does for me. I've gotten to spend a lot more time with my friends and family, and gotten a lot more personal projects completed. Just check your personal time scheduling and make sure you're doing what's important. And stop spending money on video games if you're not playing them!!! (:

I'm not that great of a person to listen to, but I guess you can if you want...

I've played games since I was about 4 years old, starting with my Dad's AppleIIe
Then, about 3 years later, my dad bought us a Nintendo Home Entertainment System. Well, we played that thing to death(literally, it wouldn't play any games because we over-used it over about a 6-7 year period, so we bought our second NES system that year to compensate. Then, three years ago, we got Playstation, and I knew how much I loved it since I played it over at my friend's house a lot. Two years ago, we got a PS2, and still have it. I love that thing, even though our games are limited(Ridge Racer V*was good for a launch game...*, Tekken Tag, Madden 2002, GT3, Resident Evil Code:Veronica, GTA3, GTA:VC, and a few regular PSX games.) Lately I've been playing Code:Veronica again. I honestly don't think it's too great to play in the summer. Some games are just seasonal, like football during football season. But Code:Veronica, as well as all other Resident Evil games, are best in the winter, and okay in the spring and fall. It's the whole amount of light you get, since those games are only good when it's dark. I also am getting over my Vice City craze, although I still love it. I havn't played GTA3 in a while, and that's probably due to the fact that I have GTA:VC.

But, in my honest opinion, the regular NES games are the best. Nothing can really compete with Super Mario Bros. 3, Ninja Giaden, and PaperBoy. Well, I suppose games like Contra are up there too, but NES just has so many classics...

You probably aren't outgrowing video games, since there are plenty of adults who play them, but you're probably just in a transition between one type of game and another. Some of the best games, at least in my opinion, are the NES classics and games for PSX/PS2 that are more adult-oriented, or at least for teens. Although, there are plenty of games that are for just about everyone, like the sports games, and I suppose Parrapa the Rapper could be concidered... I need to get that game, think I can find it for less than $10US?

Good god, people only think that the NES kicked ass because that is what they started on. Just like those morons my age that still listen to Metallica because they were big in high school. The NES sucks!! I never had one but my girlfriend just got one to 'relive the past' and the past sucked....I started out on the Atari 2600 and I don't care if I ever see one again. If you want to talk about games from that era worth a sh%t you have to talk about arcade games or C64 games......

and P.S. If I had more friends I'd play less games.....sigh....

Well, here's the thing with the PSone games.

G-Police and Colony Wars can't be made anymore because Psygnosis died. Wipeout Fusion was never bought which is a shame because it ruled. FF remakes aren't quite being made, Xenogears 2 won't be released over here. Tekken has lost the plot. But apart from that your fine.

Psygnosis is now called studio liverpool and wipeout fusion just drove me insane with rage. The latest final fantasy ain't that bad as everyone says it is. For me tekken never truly had a plot till number 2 kinda like street fighter and why the bloody hell aren't we getting xenosaga

I want Xenosaga!! *cries hard* :(

Wipeout fusion did take the piss though.

Hey, I don't even own a PS2 yet, but I feel since I've been spoiled by the GTs eries that I'm only going to buy 3-4 games anyway.

As said before, it's always a good thing that real life has suddenly become more important than playing video games on any platform. It's more fun controlling other real people's lives, too!

I feel like I've not really OUTGROWN games, sure some games, but some I just get bored with or find they're not as good as I remembered.
