PS2 to PC

I've been researching this for about a week now. I bought a brand new gateway 940 D with a 19W TFT screen and I don't have enough money left for a TV. I'm going away to college tomorrow and both a PC and TV will take up space, so NO TV. Now that that's out of the way, I plugged my component video into a tv card that comes with the computer. I tried Media center 05, WinDVR, couldn't find Giga Pocket and other programs like power director pro are extremely costly for this sort of thing. I've been told DSscaler and using an s-video adapter will work. I've also heard that you can buy a component to DVI adapter and plug it directly into the monitor.

So what should I do to play on my computer and what do you use if you play on the PC as well? Thanks in advance.
P.S. I also want sound, how do I do that?

u want to connect ur PS2 to your PC monitor directly or through the actual CPU? if u have a videocard that supports the input of S-Video, then u can use that, but i don't advise it cuz the imagine is horrible, at least at full screen it is. Or u can buy a VGA box or a VGA converter, which u can toggle a button if u want ur PC or PS2 to show on your monitor, i am looking for a VGA box down here, but its awefully expensive. if u need more info just post.

hafa d.

For now I was just looking for something to go directly to my monitor but if there was a good way to get it through my pc so I coulld record stuff then I'd do that. That's why I was asking.

What about sound though?

Im having exsactly the same problem! I have a 19" LCD monitor and wanted to use it for my PS2 at uni..... I got a tvcard with s-video input and as you said that quality is rubbish... I was actually horrified at how poor it was... the TV looks great on it though.... so now I need a way to give me good PS2 quality..... I know all those VGA converter things but they are way too expensive.... Is there a way to connect it strait to VGA or the DVI port without some expensive equipment??? I suppose I was naive in thinking that I could just plug it in somehow at it would be PS2 LCD TV quality! :indiff: Is it something to do with the technology incompatablity? how is a LCD montior and a LCD TV different!? why cant it not just produce it as how the card produces the TV signal! luckly with PS3 this wont be a problem with DVI but by then will probably by a new TV!

Any help would be really appreciated! :sly:

yea, u have to get the VGA converter,it's the only resolution i found. i thought my S-Video was going to look awesome when i first got it, but man it didn't. so i'm just going to wait till i find one at a resonable price and see what happens, i heard it looks awesome though on your LCD monitor, but we'll see.

I'm going to buy the A/V component to DVI connector and have it run through my screen and use another source for audio (external speakers maybe).

NVM, the damn RCA to DVI adapter doesn't EXIST. You need an expensive box to translate the signal. I'll see about the VGA switch.

Alright so the video game jockey in one choice, but I think it's just that my capture card sucks. It's a Happauge WinTV PVR something with 3 rca, on s-video, one cable jack. Could I get something much better for a good price and would be able to capture ps2 video? If so, what card?
