So the past couple of weeks my PS3 has been freezing on me when playing on BF3 & GT5. I cleaned it all which seemed to help until now.

I was on GT5 & it froze, so I tried quitting the game but the screen went blank, so I held down the power button until it turned off & now it wont read Blu-Ray discs. I cleaned it which kinda help but the games freeze whilst starting up.
It will load ordinary DVDS but not Blu-Ray.

So im guessing the disc reader has had it? or is it something else?

Could do with advice before I spend money when I probably dont need to.

I would love to, but despite something similar happening to me, I couldn't fix mine and opted to buy another. Did you really need to bump the thread though? It was still at the top of page one of the subforum. Bumping is frowned upon here.

I'd have to say it's time you start saving up to buy a new PS3. If it was the blu-ray drive (Correct me if I am wrong) then the system wouldn't be able to read any discs.

I recently had to do the same thing, but my PS3 came up with a system-check to see if any hardware had become corrupted during the 'incorrect shut-down'. Give Sony a call and if they say that they can fix it, get a price and then think about whether you want to buy a new system or not.

What's the point in buying a new PS3 when i can get it fixed, cleaned and a warranty for a quarter of the price.
