I guess the "new" has worn off the Rally Photomode Competition. So, I'm gonna ask for some input from you lot.

Please cast a vote for changes (if any) that YOU think might make the GT4 Rally Photomode Competition more appealing to YOU.

i voted for "Allow the use of PhotoShop to adjust contrast and brightness only." since it ive a better feeling of how the actual image will turn out.

the other thing id like to suggest is, i know this hasnt been an issue really, but, id like to see all the entrys. it would make it more interesting at least from a spectators view. to keep it annouymous, you or someone else could post the pictures as they are recieved and if someone clams an image. DQ'ed.

This should have been a multiple poll.

I agree with the guy above me.

Psychologically, people open your rally competition threads and see no pictures, so they probably assume no one is taking pictures and they think the competition is a waste of time.....there are little posts due to this, also. I know your first post states 'no posting of pics in this thread' but that's what is killing your competition.

Allowing pics to be posted in thread = more posts.
More posts = more entries.

I also think allowing the use of contrast and brightness would help, but that isn't so important as my other point.

There have only been two pics DQ'd during the whole run of this competition. The entries you see in the polls are the entries received.

The entire concept behind this competition was to be annonymous. I had several people agree with me that in some of the other competitions there was too much "buddy-buddy" stuff going on. So I started this. And in order for it to be annonymous there shouldn't and can't be any pictures that have been ENTERED posted in the threads. I have NEVER stopped anyone from posting pictures in the thread that describes the theme for the week. As a matter of fact, during the first couple of weeks we had folks post their HM's in the threads. So I'm not sure where your statement of pictures not being allowed to be posted comes from. The only thing that is stated is that the pictures that have been ENTERED into the competition shouldn't be posted.

Here are my problems:

Submitting an entry can be faffy at times as you have to post the links, attatchments, name id... can be a bit time consuming at times.

Allowing the use of photochop would mean it would be harder to identify who has colour manipulated or not, and that belongs in its own photochop competitions in the forum.

Personally I find the themes a bit picky and give you less freedom in the choice of cars you can use, and I feel that they need a bit more further explanation.

I would keep the anonymous concept of the competition as you don’t have to cope with people giving advice and making the competition entries bias towards the judge… but then I guess you can give them false opinions which help a bit. However anonymous competitions mean that the public can’t have a look at the entries and would consequently lead to a lower number of posts… making the threads quite inactive at times.

I don’t want to see this competition being dropped as there are people out there with nice talent as demonstrated in other threads. I would allow time for this competition to mature and hopefully it will be popular, this competition just needs to give the contenders more freedom :)

Fine, so you can post a few honorable mentions....that really doesn't help much.

The point being is this.

In my opinion....

If you want more people to participate in your rally competitions, you MUST allow final entries to be posted in the thread.

I see a direct correlation between that and the success of a given competition.

I agree sometimes there is a 'buddy system' but you can facilitate means to prevent that, I'm sure. Perhaps after an entry has been emailed to you you could post it in the thread....still anonymous but people have an idea what they are up against.

It is YOUR competition and you are free to run it how you want - but I'm pretty confident that you opened it up to posting of entries, many more people would participate 👍

I would say to give more freedom on the theme
like the french rally one ...
I don't think too many people have a french rally car
not everyone has the ability to unlock them

rally track theme will be better than rally car theme
at least you can have more variation on car choice

I think that the way you submit entries is a bit time-consuming. But the anonymous entry and the non-adjustment policy are good ideas.

People posting Final Entries and Honorable Mentions gives people an idea of what others are producing, as well as spark ideas in their own head of how they could make their shot look. Think of it as "brain storming" in a way, only the creativity that it sparks will get others to post more, and enter more often.

I personally agree with seeing entries before the comp ends, a good way to do this is for Swissbear to post the entries so that way no one knows who they're from ( and keep the HM's out so it's not obvious who's it is)

what I'd like to see from this comp:

- No photoshopping at all. If you allow people to crop & adjust brightness etc then it will be the same as the regular GT4 photomode comp and really, what's the point of that?

- Anonymous entries would be nice, although I do think that not seeing any entries is hardly going to entice new entries. If swissbear could update the first post with thumbnails of the entries as they come in that would be great, but it's a bit of extra work to do.

- Allow any theme for the subject, restricting it to rally is fast losing its appeal and detracts from the main photomode comp - what if the winner there wants to choose a rally theme? too many little specialist comps dilutes the overall experience imo.

- Rewrite your rules!!! A page an a half of imposing text stating the rules is probably the comp's own worst enemy. Imagine if you clicked on it the first time, would you bother to read it all? It needs to state the purpose of this comp clearly and simply. I am happy to have a go at this for you, I'll pm you something later.

nobody looks @ the thread simply because there's no reason to type in there except for questions etc.. which is what lets it drop down to the bottom.. also, no adjusting outside of GT4 photomode.. it'd be a good way for you to update/bump the thread by adding the entries to the thread as they come in... making it look like more ppl are actually doing the competition instead of just someone monitoring the thread..
