RCKakashi14's GT Sport Fanfiction - ON HOLD

Page 17 - Integrity

Location: Dream Alliance HQ, Nurburg, Germany
Time: 5 pm

On schedule, Hiroyuki, Nigel along with Takuma head to the conference room in anticipation of Julie's arrival.

Even though a cyborg, Nigel is familiar with tension. And seeing Hiroyuki lost patience a few times already made him worry.

The moment they're waiting has arrived. They hear a buzzing sound which is a sign that a guest rings at the gate. The security then calls Hiroyuki.

Guard: "Ms. Meade and her bodyguard are here."

Hiroyuki: "Good. Escort them here in the conference room."

Hiroyuki sits down and crosses his arms. Takuma meanwhile stands at the door. They see the guests being escorted, and Takuma lets the two in.

The bodyguard holds two suitcases, and places them on the table, right in front of Hiroyuki. The man then goes at the door, just next to Takuma while Julie is right face to face with Hiroyuki.

Julie: "Julie Meade. Pleasure to meet you."

She reaches out her hand. But Hiroyuki could only stand up and bow as a sign of greeting. The businesswoman performs the same gesture.

Julie: "I forgot, the Japanese bow down.. not shake hands. Sorry about that."

Hiroyuki: "I finally met you."

Julie: "It's actually quite an honor to see you in person, Hiroyuki-san. I have always followed your team's activities and you never fail to impress."

Hiroyuki could only smile at the flattery.

Hiroyuki: "We simply do what we ought to do. Nothing more, nothing less. Now, woman... what are these two briefcases doing here?"

Julie: "Let's just cut to the chase. You deserve way better. I know what happened to this team. Even I could not bear the predicament you're into right now."

Julie then proceeds to open the briefcases. They are contained with nothing more than cash. One thousand US dollar bills in bundles, lined up in rows and stacked in layers.

Julie: "I could make things better for you. With my backing, I assure you, your situation will never happen again. I make payments quarterly, so these will be for this quarter."

Hiroyuki takes one bundle with his right hand. Then he clenches it... tightly. Then the next deed...

...Hiroyuki hurls it to the businesswoman. The cyborg attempts to restrain his boss, but Hiroyuki keeps on getting bundles to throw at. Julie could only do but shield herself from the fury.

Nigel: "Hiroyuki-san, yamete kudasai!" (Please stop, Hiroyuki-san!)

Seeing his boss in trouble, the bodyguard moves, but before he could even make one step, Takuma catches him. Takuma hits the bodyguard's gut with his knee and proceeds to perform a hip toss to slam the man down on the floor. Takuma then crouches down and brandishes his Swiss army knife, placing it close to the bodyguard's neck.

Takuma: "Don't move. If you do, I'll collect your head."

One last act for Hiroyuki, is to hurl the entire briefcase to Julie. The woman dodges it, however. And the briefcase managed to create a small crack on the glass pane where it hit.

Hiroyuki: "That's gender equality for you."

Julie composes herself with a sigh.

Julie: "I never knew you were so feisty."

Hiroyuki: "I may look scrawny and meek to you, but no one... no one likes my wrath. You think a mere sum could stop us?! ANSWER!"

Julie: "This is the reality, Hiroyuki-san. Companies buy other companies now. Money is now the only thing that can rise one from the ashes."

Hiroyuki: "Do not treat us like some company you can put under your control. Our hard work, achievements, and our pride... YOU CAN NEVER PUT A PRICE ON THEM! I knew exactly what you have done to us, woman. You think you're one step ahead of us? Wrong. We are.

Don't even think the racing world is in your hands, woman. It's far bigger than you can handle. That Vision GT Project? I don't care if FIA approves of it. No matter how much money you put on those cars, driving skill is priceless. Bring it on. I don't care if we lose, at least we put up a fight, fair and square."

Julie rearranges her blazer and simply gets the other briefcase. Then she picks up the bundles and as well gather the rest on the briefcase that was thrown away. She then faces the agitated team chief once more and bows in front of him.

Julie: "I then take my leave. Well then, good luck on your situation."

Hiroyuki places his attention to Takuma.

Hiroyuki: "Kanonji, sono otoko wo hanasero." (Takuma, let that man go.)

Takuma: "Wakarimashta." (Understood)

Takuma swiftly rotates the Swiss army knife to hide the blade and returns it to pocket at back of his coat. He then helps the bodyguard to stand up. The two guests exit the room, and Julie never utters another word.

Hiroyuki also exits the room, heading to the staircase.

Hiroyuki: "Nigel, get my BP. I'll be in my room."

The worried cyborg heeds to the instruction, and heads to the medical supplies room, just next to the pantry.

The next day, Takuma asked permission to Hiroyuki to test drive the Group 4 specification BMW M4, after the chief has calmed down. In fact, he was also instructed not to tell a single word to the rest of the team what transpired yesterday.

Even though it's the Touristenfahrten, he was granted permission.

The race car and Takuma's presence gathered some attention, particularly the fans. He then proceeds to enter the circuit to start the shakedown.

39577814315_17ea70025c_c.jpg

With Julie finally driven away, Takuma now thinks back on Hiroyuki's logic:

Hiroyuki: "Takuma, I have a new challenge for you. This car. We're slotting in the Gr.4 class. And to top things off, this makes less power than the road car."

Takuma: "Huh?! But why are we joining in a lower class? Aren't we used to join the top class? The Gr.3?"

Hiroyuki: "That's why I'm calling this a challenge for you."

Takuma: "Making less power than the road car... yet has aerodynamic bits and even stripped out. This could be too easy."

Hiroyuki: "If you think like that, then you're sorely mistaken. You're used to wrestle with high-powered racing cars, even Group C machines. There is a reason why Gr.4 class has seen a sudden surge in popularity. It even makes the bulk of the grid in that endurance race."

Takuma: "What does Hiroyuki-san mean about this car being a "challenge"? It's hard to comprehend."

Since there are other drivers enjoying the track day, Takuma simply cannot go even at 80% of his pace.

39577813915_bd09d66749_c.jpg

Takuma: "This car has slick tires and slight aerodynamic changes. Power is easier to put down on the ground, obviously. I don't see the "challenge" part there... to the point of being insulting."

39577813735_e7142a94fb_c.jpg

Being stripped out of luxuries along with other modifications, the car makes quick work on the overtakes.

39577813365_f9a75a7c72_c.jpg

Takuma: "Where is the challenge? I can brake much earlier and can floor the car with ease. Going to this Touristenfahrten today is a bad idea after all. But this is the only time I can seek answers. I would be back in London next week, and then return back here on the race proper!"

39577813105_0311a91f11_c.jpg

Takuma: "I sure hope this isn't a trap. But I am always putting my faith to Hiroyuki-san. There must be something deeper than this otherwise simplistic class of racing."

Takuma paid for only one lap session. And just like that, the answer could still not be found.

39577813035_9b4e75b2b2_c.jpg

He then lines up to another Porsche about to return to the parking lot.

Takuma: "Maybe on that 4 hour endurance race itself... I would find out. With what happened yesterday, I am sure as hell that I'm not going to let up, even for a second!

Dream Alliance shall make a triumphant return, and that will start now."

Location: Alsace, France
Time: 9:00 pm, one week later

What would seem a quiet atmosphere at the hills of Alsace in France...

...turns out to be the opposite.

High profile personalities flock to a certain, by invitation only event. The event in question is actually a charity fun run of Vision Gran Turismo cars piloted by the upper echelons of the society. Proceeds shall go to the refugees who escaped from a war in a far away country.

FIA Officials are also present, with Sir Shaw McCarthy heading the said shindig... and a certain American guest named Sam. Sam has a shaggy hair and wearing sunglasses which would look out of place on dusk.

Julie also arrives, wearing a racing suit. But before she can head to the pit garage, she meets up with Sir Shaw to discuss business first.

Sir Shaw: "You seem well prepared, lady."

Julie: "Of course I am. And so do my men. The full payment is already right behind you, so you could take them right after the event... with discretion of course.

Sir Shaw: "I shall be handling that. Now, where is he?"

Julie: "I'm afraid he cannot come over. But I'll do the reporting, so worry not a single thing and watch the fun run. I shall take my leave."

After a few words from Sir Shaw, the fun run starts without incident.

39898134044_3288fe6069_c.jpg

At the helm of the black Fittipaldi EF7 Vision Gran Turismo is none other than Julie. The car has just been finished, so it's a perfect time for a shakedown.

Julie: "This is just a run. Gotta relax behind the wheel..."

40609379411_339ac80e0d_c.jpg

Meanwhile, Sir Shaw instructs Sam to escort the men to the van where the briefcases will be stashed.

Sam then leads the men without much trouble to a black van parked at an empty lot. Sam simply smiles at the rather serious group of men who place the briefcases one by one at the back of the van.

When the men leave, Sam gets in the van. Upon sitting down, he then removes the shaggy hair, which turns out to be a wig, and his sunglasses. Turns out, Sam is actually Rob in disguise. The driver is none other than Nigel. Rob clears his throat for three times.

Rob: "Bloody hell the American accent is atrocious. Never ever will I speak like that again. I endured hours of what would seem be sheer hell."

Nigel: "Shall we proceed?"

Rob: "We'd better be. I have a job to do as well... as an MI6 agent. You know that very well. Sir Shaw will be all right, and he will not be suspected by that witch."

The pair leave the event.

Nigel: "Mind if I query?"

Rob: "Go on."

Nigel: "What are those briefcases for?"

Rob: "A bribe. No less."

Nigel: "That's horrible to hear..."

Rob: "Never worry, though. Sir Shaw created this event as an elaborate trap for Julie. He already approved the return of the project way before Julie came into the picture. Turns out... she has a pending tax evasion case back home. How shameful to have such burden for a successful businesswoman. Now, these will even add up. Though that old man Shaw didn't disclose who that person whom he talked to."

Nigel: "As an attempted bribery, huh? But who could that other person be?"

Back in the event, various VGT cars roar through the hills of Alsace.

40609375021_c7cd1c5982_c.jpg

Julie experiences euphoria, having to experience a different dimension of speed.

38799571360_3d4400877b_b.jpg

Julie: "So this is how a race car driver feels. The moment you're sucked in. And now... it's too late for Dream Alliance to stop this. Vision Gran Turismo is officially revived. Face the challenge, if I were you. After all, you never back down, am I right?"

At the other side of the globe, dawn has started. People are about to head to their places of work.

One of them is in a white Ford GT.

Inside the car, a phone can be heard ringing, prompting the driver the pick it up while waiting for the green light.

The driver is none other than...

...Kazunori Yamauchi.

The person on the other line is Julie, who just finished the run in France.

Kaz: "Hello?"

Julie: "Have I called at the wrong time? I'm not good with time zones."

Kaz: "No worries. I wake up early as always."

Julie: "Good to hear. Oh, I'm here to report that the event was a dashing success. Sir Shaw was truly impressed."

Kaz: "Is that so? Glad to hear it. Don't worry, I'll take it from here from now on. You can go rest if you want."

Upon seeing the green light, Kaz briefly shows a grin as he shifts into first gear. The American supercar quickly catches the attention of the pedestrians and bystanders as it runs along.

Location: Kiehl's home, Stuttgart, Germany
Time: 12 pm, the next day

Blitzgelb uses the day to rest and reconfigure the Cayman GT4's settings for next week's qualifying day at the Nurburgring. For Kiehl, however, this is another day to dread. He did manage to test out the GT4 last night, however...

40701825752_00954c1a17_c.jpg

He isn't used to being idle, even back in his driving school days. But he has no choice but to take heed.

In an attempt to curb his boredom, he goes back in his room, sits down on his bed and turns on his large flat screen television situated on the wall. The high definition output is pretty much the norm.

To his surprise, he sees Julie in the FIA channel, having a press conference. She is holding a chip that's as large as a flash ECU.

"Yesterday at FIA's conference, the American business mogul Julie Meade presents a chip that shall be installed in all the cars participating at the Nurburgring 4 Hour race. The timing couldn't be more perfect especially that the event itself is just two weeks away, and next week's qualifying day will be the perfect opportunity to test it."

Julie: "I shall introduce to you a revolutionary tool that will change the face of endurance racing - the Fuel Map. Now, I won't say I invented it, as it is being used in Formula 1 for a long time. But after thorough testing, it can now be used in GT racing as well. Adjusting air-fuel ratio on the fly has never been this convenient for production-based racing machines.

The FIA shall now require every racing car to be fitted with this little device. Since the qualifying day for the Nurburgring 4 Hours is on next week, teams shall use that opportunity to test it."

Upon seeing her with that brief speech, Kiehl clenches his fists. He got triggered the moment he sees the businesswoman holding that device.

Kiehl: "How dare you..."

He immediately turns off the television. In an another attempt, this time to dissipate his anger, he takes a shower. After putting on his clothes and his leather jacket, he hurriedly goes downstairs and goes to the main door.

As he heads out the porch, however...

...he sees the very woman he despises - Julie.

The two stare at each other, as if both are on a Mexican standoff. Julie notices Kiehl's glaring eyes as a gust of wind blows by. To ease the tension between them, Julie puts up a smile, and approaches Kiehl.

Julie: "It's been a while, Kiehl Muller."

Kiehl: "Why did you bother showing up? Life for both of us could have been much better if we didn't meet again at all."

Julie: "Both of us deserve closure."

Kiehl: "Closure? With that conference you had? You think you were able to move on?"

Julie: "Don't take this the wrong way, Kiehl. I did not take credit at all."

Kiehl: "But you sounded like you are. Oh how proud you were yesterday."

Julie: "Kiehl... I had moved on. How about you?"

Kiehl: "Moved on? Oh stop messing with my head, woman. MOVED ON?!"

Julie: "Please don't raise your voice."

Hearing her voice triggers the man even more, and now it's his time to lash out.

Kiehl: "I HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO SO, B:censored:CH! Don't talk as if you've forgotten all about it! THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT! MY FATHER DIED BECAUSE OF YOU! YOU THINK I DIDN'T KNOW THAT?!"

Julie breathes deeply and briefly closes her eyes to keep her composure.

Julie: "That's why I came here. Both of us want to end this."

Kiehl: "And you're talking to me as if you've washed your hands clean. My father died of a heart attack.... all because he's preventing YOU to acquire that Fuel Map you so desired. That was two years ago... and I NEVER FORGOT IT. It's still etched painfully on my heart. It aches even more whenever I see you, and buying off racing teams as if they're tools."

Julie: "I was foolish back then. I want to get in the world of speed. Having a corporate life can be too routine, and that world provides me a great escape. I knew all too well how much your father spent in his research. I WANT TO HELP HIM."

Kiehl: "But you are taking away what's not yours. He worked all day and night for that, and yet you came in... bought every patent of it like buying a candy from a convenience store. All his years of hard work... gone in a flash. All because of one woman's greed. How do you call that HELPING?"

Julie: "If we are to settle this in court, I would be more than happy to. I don't care how many charges you'll throw at me."

Kiehl: "The only justice I know... is to crush the Vision Gran Turismo project. I'll grind it down to the ground. Now you'll feel how much I felt once I'm done crushing YOUR dreams. And attempting to buying off Dream Alliance? You will suffer twice for that. TAKE MY WORD FOR IT.

Now get out of my sight before I could do something much worse."

Julie breathes out another sigh.

Julie: "Is that so? Well then, I am expecting that. I am expecting a man of his word. See you on the track."

Julie then gets back to her rented luxury saloon and leaves. Kiehl's hands had opened up as he breathes out a sigh.

Location: Dream Alliance HQ, Nurburg, Germany
Time: 3 pm, one week later

The headquarters seems to be filled. Today is supposed to be the Qualifying Day for next week's endurance race.

Turns out, the mechanical department along with Andy are working hard on the M4 after hearing Takuma's feedback.

Hiroyuki could see the garage from his suite. He hears the door knocking.

Hiroyuki: "Come in."

Takuma enters the room.

Takuma: "Hiroyuki-san, did you intentionally let our team skip the Qualifying?"

Hiroyuki: "Yes. Even when I signed up for the race, I told them that we will not join today's qualifying."

Takuma: "I never question your decision making, but..."

Hiroyuki: "You deserve my explanation, Kanonji. Please sit down."

The two sit on the sofas, facing each other.

Hiroyuki: "Simple answer, really. If driving the detuned M4 is the only challenge I have for you, then you're mistaken."

Takuma: "Huh?"

Hiroyuki: "You see, back then, you find it easy to overtake an opponent using a car that's set up for our advantage. What if... you start at the back of the pack, with that thoroughly restricted BMW? That shall test your true endurance capability. And we gotta thank that witch Julie for providing us the Fuel Map which turns out be useful after all. That sweet little thing is your only weapon. Take note, the race only lasts for four hours. If we get in the ranks, we will proceed to the main event - the 24 Hours."

Takuma scratches his head, now knowing the rather unfavourable conditions.

Takuma: "Well... ummmm...."

Hiroyuki: "Some of the greatest drivers of the world have experienced that kind of setback. You will learn so much from this, Kanonji.

Anyhow, time to brief you with what's currently happening."

40701825332_5aecea8a5c_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "As we speak, another rising star... this time from Italy is attempting to test the waters with his Ferrari 458 GT3. He's pretty talented, and coming from a wealthy family."

40034463354_7227098354_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "And remember Petroheads Racing with their failed demonstration in Suzuka? They're back. This time, they will enter the fray with a Hyundai Genesis Gr. 3."

25873581797_e077cfcc17_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "Plus, Blitzgelb will enter in two classes. Turns out that they signed up for Gr.3 as well. Interestingly, our biggest fan will lead the Gr.4 team."

39849656635_8189fbb3a5_c.jpg

24983435357_b68cdd52f5_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "Even though it's just a miniature endurance race, it's still interesting how will our strategy work out.

Because if we prevail, then we will also conquer the Nurburging 24 Hours."

End of Page 19

Page 20 - Restricted

Location: Nurburgring Nordschleife, Nurburg, Germany
Time: 2 pm, one week later

The mini endurance event at the Nurburgring has arrived. Even though it will only last for four hours, racing fans all over the world camp out in a similar manner as the main 24 hour event.

The race will serve as a qualifier for the 24 hour race that will be held two weeks after.

An hour is left for every racing team to prepare. Crews work double time to finalize the settings.

In Dream Alliance's pit garage, Takuma is wearing his new black race suit with purple stripes. He then puts on his matching Alpinestars racing gloves.

Hiroyuki then approaches him.

Hiroyuki: "You will be the first one to take the helm, am I right?"

Takuma: "Yes, sir."

Hiroyuki: "Don't let the late Sir Ben down... and your father too. This is one challenge your father would love to take... if he's still alive."

Takuma: "You think so?"

Hiroyuki: "Hmph... he would. I'm pretty sure you inherited his stubbornness."

Takuma: "Yeah."

Hiroyuki then shifts to a more serious tone.

Hiroyuki: "Take note, the largest grid is in the class we're in, the GT4 class. You have 44 contenders to deal with, including Blitzgelb's Cayman GT4 Clubsport. In order for us to enter the main event, we have to finish in the top 15 of the class. 15 cars for each class will only make it in the 24 Hour race."

Takuma: "And we're starting in dead last."

Hiroyuki then pats on Takuma's shoulder.

Hiroyuki: "Oh how I wonder how much Michiharu Kanonji you have inside you. There is a saying - "Chip Off The Old Block". Use that as a weapon."

Hiroyuki then leaves Takuma alone.

One of the mechanics then approach him.

DA Mechanic: "Sir, how would you like the suspension adjustment?"

Takuma: "Having ran the Nurburgring a lot in my life, hmmmm... Can you raise the rear for a bit? There are sections that shifts the weight a lot in the rear."

DA Mechanic: "Understood, sir."

Meanwhile, Rob exits the caravan, straightening up his jacket. He then looks left and right. In an instant, he sees Julie being escorted once again by her bodyguards.

Then he takes out his walkie talkie from the pocket of his jacket and places it near his mouth.

Rob: "Ready in position. I'll tell you when to move in."

One hour later, at exactly 3 in the afternoon, the race starts. Crowds are cheering for their favorite racers.

And as planned by Hiroyuki, Dream Alliance starts at the 45th place of the GT4 class.

27006724958_4d99d56098_c.jpg

Takuma firms his grip on the multi-function steering wheel.

Takuma: "Here goes. There is a reason why Hiroyuki-san gave this challenge specifically for me. And it's my job to figure it out."

(Background Music)

And the signal to go is heard. Takuma puts his foot on the floor, using every ounce of the rather restricted engine.

39067396120_7ab55d43ce_c.jpg

Even though it's meant to even the playing field, it's obvious that some cars perform above expectations.

Takuma: "I sure bet that Subaru uses the upgraded power and traction advantage. 380 detuned horsepower feels a lot different from 380 UPGRADED horsepower!"

Though of course, he overtakes the Impreza with ease. And as well as the GT-R.

39067395810_1be98c0ea2_c.jpg

Takuma: "This could be too easy.... or maybe this is a trap. This fuel map button... how much would this help me?"

27006723168_f178752e90_c.jpg

Back in Dream Alliance pit garage, Andy approaches Hiroyuki.

Andy: "Sir... I'm just wondering."

Hiroyuki: "What is it?"

Andy: "Don't take this the wrong way, but isn't this a bit too much?"

Hiroyuki: "Treat this race as a lesson I'm giving to you."

Andy: "A lesson?"

Hiroyuki: "I've placed this challenge specifically for Takuma only, but this will also affect you."

Andy: "Care to spare some details?"

Hiroyuki: "In his entire racing career, Takuma blends his racing skill and mechanical knowledge perfectly. The late Sir Ben drilled everything on to his head. He can turn any car into a force to be reckoned with."

Andy: "Yeah, I mean he can treat a peaky Group C car like an extension of his body."

Hiroyuki: "But what if... one was taken away from his repertoire? The GT4 class has the most number of restrictions ever placed in a racing car. It arguably has the most even playing field. Takuma might think this is too easy since the power is restricted, but he got it all wrong. Sure, we do have a fuel mapping device installed in the car, but that will only provide little support."

Andy: "So you mean... he can only rely on skill?"

Hiroyuki: "Exactly. Let's see how similar he is to his father. Takuma is the best tactician among you, but at the same time, he is also the most stubborn. Those qualities are clashing within him right at this moment."

Andy: "That's a tall order."

Hiroyuki: "If he fails this challenge...

...then he does not deserve the Mazda LM55 at all. The very car he's struggling to tame at the moment."

Back in the race, Kiehl manages to defend his pole position.

27006722208_c3819b2fa8_c.jpg

Kiehl: "Those front wheel drive toys are nothing. They're going to enjoy munching their front tires anyway."

27006721178_f03426c6f5_c.jpg

Kiehl: "The only racing team who has the right to go side by side with me is the Dream Alliance. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm waiting for you, Takuma Kanonji! I've been waiting for this very moment, to clash with the top racer of the team!"

Meanwhile, other racing teams are working at their very best as well. Making it to the top 15 is a big hurdle to overcome.

Jenkins Racing with its Jaguar F-Type Gr. 4 won the 24 Hour race last year in the GT4 class. They definitely want to repeat the result this year.

27006720298_0f2af3c568_c.jpg

40168851284_0d19699024_c.jpg

And in the Gr. N class, a silver Porsche 911 GT3 RS is aiming for the top spot, after finishing 3rd last year in the 24 hour race. It would be effortless to the car to place in the top 15 right now...

40168850364_3bcbe8cc1b_c.jpg

27006717808_a26da806b0_c.jpg

And of course... the GT3 class brings out all the excitement.

40835529712_f22596f22e_c.jpg

Rebecca is at the helm of the 911 RSR, with the 458 GT3 driven by Pietro Guidicelli of the team Rosso Pista closing in on her.

40835529092_239e236edc_c.jpg

And as well as Petroheads Racing's Fritz trying hard to recover from his rather humiliating loss in Suzuka, at the helm of GT3 specification Hyundai Genesis.

The race shall be the deciding factor. Only the brightest stars deserve the honor of competing the 24 Hours.

Page 21 - Downfall

An hour has passed, and the Dream Alliance team somehow made progress as it was able to overtake almost half of its opponents in the class.

41736202952_6c393bcea7_c.jpg

Takuma places the M4 well behind the Huracan's draft.

Takuma: "The only chance for me for passing is through slipstream. No way this car's state would allow me to tackle the others side-by-side."

(Background Music)

41736202452_86b86339fa_c.jpg

He is also taking advantage of the fuel mapping device, to save as much fuel as he can.

Takuma: "This little device is helping me after all. There's no need for me to short shift... and the M4's engine has a very strong pull."

41736202132_49468bf329_c.jpg

Reaching for the Aremberg, Takuma goes in for pressuring the Lamborghini.

Takuma: "Sorry, as much as I would love to see a Lamborghini dominating this kind of race, I have to restore my pride."

His move paid off, as the Huracan ends up overshooting upon corner entry.
41736200762_d5622e0738_c.jpg

The error slowed down the supercar as a result, prompting Takuma to step on the accelerator the moment he straightened the wheel, then he quickly toggled back the fuel map to temporarily unleash all of the car's power.

Takuma braves through the Fuchsröhre section, foot on the floor.

41736199212_81743ab5dc_c.jpg

Takuma: "Just calm down, Kiehl would be right up on your alley."

Takuma switches back on the fuel map in order to resume his conservation of fuel.

Meanwhile, back in the pits...

Andy is looking at Takuma's GT3 RS at the parking lot. Hiroyuki sees him and decides to approach him.

41777505991_2fc12cdd8c_c.jpg

Andy: "I wonder if Takuma-san will be the okay."

Hiroyuki: "Only if he finally finds out what he must do."

Andy: "Hopefully he'll be able to uplift our team from our recent setback."

Hiroyuki: "Oh I think he can. Plus, I'm fascinated with his new venture - that GT3 RS."

Andy: "Takuma isn't a Porsche guy, but I'm as intrigued as you are."

Hiroyuki: "Funnily enough, he compares the Porsche to his LM55. He said that both cars can bite back whenever they please."

Andy: "He has yet to tame the LM55, and yet he's using that RS as "training wheels", he said."

Hiroyuki: "There will be a day, that Takuma will learn that his pride does not rely on wrestling high powered machinery. And that day... is today."

At the bleachers, Rob is sneaking past the audience, and he manages to see Julie at vantage point. He then looks at the lower levels, and spots her bodyguards.

He then starts a step, and then walk in a casual manner approaching those bodyguards in suits. Upon reaching them, one of the men lightly pushes Rob away.

Bodyguard: "Do you wish to see Ms. Meade? Only invited guests are allowed in this section."

Rob gives a stern look at each of the men, while dropping a smoke bomb. The moment the gas comes out, the men start their attack on Rob, only to be evaded by Rob's simple head swaying.

After their turn, Rob uses the fence as a stepping stone, and then retaliates with an aerial roundhouse kick. Two men were knocked out cold, and then another starts to punch him, only to parry using the Wing Chun defensive tactics that he learned from Takuma.

Rob then makes another retaliation, using his newly learned Finger Jab technique popularised by none other than the late Bruce Lee. The man was instantly incapacitated by that deceptively simple attack.

One of the men quickly goes upstairs to warn Julie. Julie then takes off her stilettos, and decides to hurriedly go downstairs while being escorted. The pair did encounter Rob, but the bodyguard uses himself as a distraction so that the businesswoman can run away.

Rob easily parries the man's punch, and quickly goes behind. Then he performs a neck hold and snaps the man's neck. Even with the brief skirmish, Julie was able to set a distance. Rob immediately goes after her, and then opens up the radio.

Rob: "I'm heading to the back of the pit lane! Julie is running away. You can corner her there."

The chase causes a commotion and panic among the bystanders and viewers.

Meanwhile, Rebecca is seen taking a break from the race, leaning against the wall at the back of Blitzgelb's pit garage. She then notices the commotion, and from afar, notices Julie coming to her way.

As means of a playful joke, Rebecca reaches out her leg the instant Julie came across her. Julie trips on the pavement, but due to her continuous running and as well as the surface being hard, she struggles to stand up while Rebecca smiles down at her.

Rebecca: "It's been a while. Oh? In a hurry? I'm so sorry!"

As it turns out, Rob is aided by the Interpol who finally manages to catch up on her, so does Rob. The police team handcuffs Julie's hands.

Julie: "Argh! You think this is over?! You're too late for this, idiots!"

Rob: "We don't care. You can watch all your efforts go down the drain in your lovely prison cell."

The group helps Julie stand up and then escort her to the van.

Rob briefly looks at Rebecca, recognizing her as his late brother's ex-girlfriend.

Rob: "Thanks."

Rebecca: "I did it for Dennis. Strangely enough, I still have feelings for him."

The woman smiles, having finally settled her grudge against Julie as well...

Back in the race...

39969850020_28b15563d5_c.jpg

Kiehl manages to recover the top spot after being taken away by the Citroen GT due to a pit stop. However, he feels uneasy...

Kiehl: "I can feel Takuma Kanonji coming. That tire change and refuel stint cost me a lot of time."

39969849370_e690c7b727_c.jpg

Kiehl: "Even though I'm using the fuel mapping device, it won't help this car at all... since it goes alive only at the top end. Short shifting aids me only a little."

39969848770_28fa62c77c_c.jpg

Back in the pit lane, Nigel is analyzing the M4's telemetry, and oddly enough, he looks at the Cayman GT4's telemetry in the other laptop. Hiroyuki and Andy returns back in the pit garage.

Hiroyuki: "Any news?"

Andy: "Ummmm.... why do you have the Cayman GT4's telemetry?"

Nigel could only provide a smile.

Nigel: "Simple... I'm a cyborg. With everything else going online nowadays, getting data is a very simple task. I managed to get the data from Kiehl's GT4 by recognizing the signal from his car. While the signal does normally upload to his team, so do I."

Andy: "Which side are you on, anyway? I know he's your student, but..."

Nigel: "Of course everyone in this team has to do their part for our success, am I right?"

Andy: "Man, I don't like you peeping through my internet history. I'm going to an internet cafe next time."

Hiroyuki: "So, anything helpful?"

Nigel: "Of course! We might increase our chances of winning. Look at how much fuel the Porsche is consuming, compared to our M4."

Hiroyuki: "The fuel map device really works wonders."

Nigel: "It's a perfect pair if the engine is turbocharged and has virtually no turbo lag at low RPM. The Cayman is a naturally aspirated car, and only performs at its best on high RPM."

Hiroyuki: "Hmph."

Takuma has trump card... but when will he be able to find it out?

DUEL VOLUNTEER!

- I am available at 7 am GMT+8 tomorrow for the duel. I have already shared the Cayman's livery and the setting can be seen in the previous page.

Page 22 - Meeting Your Hero

The sun is about to set, a sign that the end is near...

27036905797_f1f37a9d03_c.jpg

Several cars have already broken down, even until the final hour of the mini endurance race.

41006338535_f7c5f9988b_c.jpg

Not everything is bad news, though. Petroheads Racing had to retire after the arrest of their benefactor, Julie. Hiroyuki sees the crew packing up and leave.

Hiroyuki: "Eh? What happened to them?"

Nigel: "I just got news from Mr. Rob Hatch. He said that he and Interpol had successfully arrested Julie a few hours ago. Because of that, Petroheads Racing decided to pull out."

Hiroyuki: "Oh... that woman had some problems with the law?"

Nigel: "Apparently she is facing tax evasion charges in the US. That's the sole reason why the Interpol got involved. The rest are of course to be dealt with by the FIA."

Hiroyuki: "I guess that's one huge thorn taken off from our backs. Now for the other one..."

Back in the race, Pietro Guidicelli is still running strong, albeit just behind the Blitzgelb Porsche 911 RSR.

27036904087_d4ccbb6b8c_c.jpg

Then back at the pit lane, Hiroyuki sees the bright yellow Cayman coming in. It turns out that it only needs a tire change.

Hiroyuki: "Nigel, inform Takuma that now is his chance. He only has little time left to accomplish this."

Nigel: "Understood."

Nigel then uses his own signal and then successfully connects to the M4's radio.

Nigel: "Takuma-san, Kiehl Muller is in the pit lane right now, changing tires."

Takuma: "Yeah, I can already see him. I'm at the main straight now!"

Alas, the moment Kiehl that he's eagerly waiting for has finally arrived.

(Background Music)

27036903257_d0b2d32ed8_c.jpg

Takuma: "I only have three laps. LET'S DO THIS!"

27036902667_b267dbd7c4_c.jpg

Kiehl: "It really had to happen at the final leg, huh? Quite dramatic. All right, I'm not going to pull any punches!"

27036901907_522629e2ab_c.jpg

Kiehl has mixed feelings right now. On one hand, he's very euphoric that he finally has gotten the honor to race his idol on a major motorsport race, not just on a casual track day. On the other, he is determined not to let up for a second.

Takuma is well-aware of the advantages of a mid-engined car, having driven multiple of them in his entire racing career.

Takuma: "I would say, if fuel and tire grip are eternal, it's game over for me. Mid-engine cars are in a different level! I know that all too well."

27036901407_83106baa48_c.jpg

Takuma: "Huge props to Porsche for excelling in pretty much almost every area of motorsport. A stock Cayman GT4 can hang on even with the likes of bona fide supercars!"

27036900667_8baa8d5bd6_c.jpg

Having passed through the Fuchsrohre and Adenauer without incident, Takuma steps up.

Takuma: "You are my biggest fan, you say? Prove it! I will basically put you in the same struggles I faced in the past!"

27036900017_c9facea6e7_c.jpg

Takuma: "The late Sir Ben would always pressure me in mock races... right until we cross the finish line. Let's see if you'll crack!"

27036898717_71acb9fd6e_c.jpg

Kiehl feels that the pressure is imminent. After all, he's right in front of one of the few S-class FIA drivers in the world.

Kiehl: "One of the few race car drivers in the world bestowed with the S-Class license. What's more, he's the only driver in Dream Alliance proudly carrying that!"

27036898247_fde8a74158_c.jpg

After the slipstream at Kesselchen, Takuma makes another attempt of an overtake.

A daring attempt, one would say, as the Klostertal turn is one of the most dangerous corners of the track.

However...

27036897537_1a61893cfa_c.jpg

...the Cayman moves for a block, as Kiehl is simply following his racing line. Takuma prompts to take the remaining space left on the inside.

The result of Kiehl's countermeasure is successful, with the M4 touching the grass and slow down.

27036896827_53d4201747_c.jpg

Takuma: "You sly fox. You're merely following your racing line, but that was an effective block!"

28035928418_6778e4a991_c.jpg

Takuma: "I'm not gonna stand here and waste one lap watching him! He's impressive and definitely deserves my praise...

...but I have my pride on the line!"

End of Page 22

Tune in next week for the next part of the duel between the hero and the biggest fan!

27036904687_d096493226_c.jpg

Page 23 - Efficiency

One would say that Takuma can simply relax and keep the position since the team only needs to qualify for the main event, anyway.

But for the S-Class FIA racer... he has an entirely different reason for winning this.

28206265388_daa104cfb2_c.jpg

Takuma: "All right... I have to think of something else. Overtaking here is virtually impossible!"

28206264978_8b59254d00_c.jpg

(Background Music)

While the audience were rooting for various cars, they can't take their eyes off at the duel between two racing stalwarts.

40271227230_eff9f16817_c.jpg

If they are seeing this kind of action, what more the Nurburgring 24 Hours could offer?

40271226790_f2a9f7b8d9_c.jpg

Takuma: "The mid-engined Cayman definitely puts the power down better, but..."

Takuma notices the surge of power offered by the M4's turbocharged straight six as he thought he had mistakenly floored it at low rpm. And then something hit him...

Takuma: "THAT'S IT!"

40271226220_4016d7d7fe_c.jpg

Takuma toggles up the fuel map switch, and enters the Cayman's slipstream.

40271226050_fd4572945b_c.jpg

Takuma: "Nigel told me that this car is consuming less fuel than that Porsche. Time for me to get crafty!"

40271225810_5b372c477d_c.jpg

Back in the pit lane, Hiroyuki and Nigel are looking at the BMW's telemetry displayed on the monitor. They noticed that Takuma shifted the air-fuel ratio once more, and on the other monitor displays the race footage.

Hiroyuki: "Takuma is slowly getting the point of this challenge."

Nigel: "Seems like your plan is working."

Hiroyuki: "Getting behind the draft of that Porsche and adjusting the air-fuel ratio will definitely help him."

Nigel: "Of course. It is to save fuel."

Hiroyuki: "Relying on pride alone will get Takuma to nowhere. He and Takanori are like that ever since they've formed this team. That's the sole reason why I intentionally de-tuned the M4."

40271225550_43fe75b092_c.jpg

Then the two cars entered 2nd to the last lap.

40271225220_c89e11a24e_c.jpg

Meanwhile, Kiehl briefly looks at the rear view mirror. For him, the M4 is like a fly buzzing around.

Kiehl: "He's breathing down on me. I feel like I'm hearing the black dragon growling behind. I am about to feel the Black Dragon's fury... it's just a matter of when."

40271224940_4a036d674b_c.jpg

Takuma: "Come on, Yellow Flash. That brightness of yours will soon be overwhelmed by the Black Dragon."

40271224670_44dedbb50b_c.jpg

Takuma: "One thing I can ask you, though.... how much have you topped up on your fuel? You're rather fast in pit stops."

40271224420_099a11d798_c.jpg

Back in the Blitzgelb pit garage, while Albert is observing the race, he notices his phone on top of the table vibrating. He immediately picks it up and answers the call.

Albert: "Hello?"

???: "I'm watching the race right now. And that Kiehl Muller of yours... he's a fascinating fella."

Albert: "Hmph. In my years managing my team, I never expected that he will cause an upset to the Dream Alliance. Because of him, my team has landed into superstar status in a flash."

???: "Speaking of upset, there is one another way that he can do. Consider this a challenge for him."

40271224370_0c156bd62e_c.jpg

Albert: "What kind of challenge?"

???: "I shall dub it the 911 RSR Evo. That's the teaser I can only give so far."

End of Page 23

- Next week would be the conclusion of the duel!

- And what's this 911 RSR Evo?

Page 24 - Equals

Takuma's opportunities are fleeting away. The only weapon in his arsenal is that fuel map switch.

41327564415_31b9c7fb2f_c.jpg

Takuma: "Dammit! My mind is working nonstop while my body is about to get worn out! Hang on, Takuma. Only one lap left..."

28355502438_b14d50036c_c.jpg

Takuma: "No doubt about it, Porsche's naturally-aspirated flat sixes have excellent top end. But... isn't Kiehl concerned of one thing?"

Slowing down for the Karusell, Kiehl drops his pace in order to save some fuel.

28355501758_a0f9532512_c.jpg

Kiehl: "Shoot... I made a miscalculation. I'm about to run low on fuel. I didn't fully top off this car. I wasn't gonna risk my lead from the start."

42228587611_d66ba288ac_c.jpg

Takuma: "Kiehl... You are very commendable indeed, but why don't you use your father's invention? Don't let him pass on in vain."

42182069842_a727894155_c.jpg

Despite the bright sunset, Takuma can clearly see his opponent once again fleeting away. But he then breathes out a sigh.

Takuma: "Sigh... why am I feeling this calm? Is it because I know what to do? Or maybe because I have to pipe down because this is just a qualifying race? I'm thinking too much."

Seeing the two Gr.4 cars entering the final lap, Hiroyuki heads out of the pit garage, and crosses his arms as he observes the crews eagerly waiting for the conclusion.

Hiroyuki: "Don't panic, Takuma. Better calm down if I were you."

28355499258_211fbc2f8f_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "First of all, we've already done more than enough to secure our place in the 24 hours endurance. The only thing you need to do is conquer the challenge I gave to you. And you are already close to getting it."

40421118720_3854e3ab25_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "Before, you only relied on your pride to take on whatever that was being thrown at you."

28355497668_bd515b0401_c.jpg

Hiroyuki: "The very reason I "neutered" that M4 is to test how far your pride can get you. From the very beginning, you and Kiehl have switched roles! Kiehl relies on his pride so as to put up an impressive fight for you. PRIDE ALONE WILL GET YOU NOWHERE! YOU SHOULD NOW REALIZE WHY YOU HAVE YET TO TAME YOUR MAZDA LM55! There are various ways to win, so use your head!"

(Background Music)

28355496768_e47954c74c_c.jpg

Knowing that the Cayman has dropped its pace, Takuma moves in.

Takuma: "You've gotten sloppy now, Kiehl Muller! What's wrong? Out of juice?"

28355495918_c6384a1bc5_c.jpg

Kiehl toggles the fuel map switch, making the air-fuel ratio leaner.

Kiehl: "Scheiße!"

Takuma then exudes more pressure to Kiehl, by tapping the Cayman's rear.

42228582251_dcf7e16014_c.jpg

Kiehl: "What?!"

Takuma: "I normally don't do that, but I'm waking you up! It's too early to sleep!"

42228581231_801b022554_c.jpg

The two cars are about to reach the long back straight, and with the finish line within their reach, Takuma deactivates the fuel map.

Upon seeing the straightaway in question, Takuma floors the throttle, unleashing all available power.

28355493098_54917c3364_c.jpg

Takuma: "The tables have turned now. How weird that I relied on this one little device for the entire run."

Kiehl could do nothing but watch his idol pass right by him. He only has a slither of fuel left.

42228579741_d8b61a0e94_c.jpg

Kiehl: "Takuma Kanonji... I have always emulated you. But even now... you are still one step ahead."

Kiehl would rather put up a smile, as he watches the M4 pulling away.

28355492038_ba03650149_c.jpg

Takuma: "You've raced well. Well above my expectations. Don't be disappointed."

42228578981_23d56ef0df_c.jpg

Takuma finishes with the lead. Hiroyuki puts up a smile while the rest of the team are going ecstatic.

Hiroyuki: "You got it. If you haven't figured it out, you would have finished way behind."

28355491318_9025237d3e_c.jpg

Earlier, the Gr.3 class has finished, with the Blitzgelb 911 RSR taking the win.

42228578351_c6fcd75c65_c.jpg

With Pietro Guidicelli finishing 2nd place.

28355490918_68d46d5b0b_c.jpg

In the pit lane, Takuma takes off his race suit and gets his drink. After breathing out his sigh, he takes a look at the car being attended by the mechanics.

Takuma: "I've learned a lesson today... Heh. Seems like even I still have a long way to go."

Hiroyuki approaches him, and receives a pat on his shoulder.

Hiroyuki: "Great job so far. Now people will take notice of us once again in the 24 Hours proper."

Takuma: "I... learned something today, Hiroyuki-san. It's rare for me to say something like this."

Hiroyuki: "Have you finally gotten the point of my challenge?"

Takuma: "I could say yes. I realized that if I relied solely on my instincts, I wouldn't have kept up with Kiehl."

Hiroyuki: "That's exactly what I wanted you to learn all along."

Takuma: "Why didn't you tell me that from the very start?"

Hiroyuki: "It's best if you've figured it out on your own. Your pride can be a double-edged sword. I purposely de-tuned that M4 to see if you would still stick by your rules."

Takuma's eyes widened as a sign of surprise.

Takuma: "YOU DID?!"

Hiroyuki: "You wouldn't have won even if I left it as is. What you did today, is very effective against someone like Kiehl. He emulated you all along, having studied your driving. And upon doing that in the race, that was his biggest downfall, thinking that he'll see your full potential. He relied on his pride in order for him to prove himself to you. That's when odds started to come to our favor. A calculating person like Kiehl can also be outsmarted, and that's what I wanted."

Suddenly, Andy calls out to Takuma.

Andy: "Takuma-san! Kiehl wishes to see you!"

Takuma: "Gotta meet my biggest fan... hehe."

Kiehl is waiting outside at the pit lane. Upon seeing his idol, he shows a delightful smile.

Kiehl: "I'm here to personally see you... again."

Takuma: "You performed way past my expectations."

Kiehl: "But..."

Takuma smiles back, and pats on Kiehl's shoulder.

Takuma: "No buts. Don't put yourself down. You're no longer a fan...

...but you are now my equal. I will definitely expect a lot from you on the 24 Hours. So stay sharp!"

Upon hearing that, Kiehl is filled with euphoria. He wanted to hear such praise from his biggest idol. He then bows as a sign of thanks.

Kiehl: "Thank you very much. I have been longing to hear that."

Takuma: "Hey, don't be silly. We're equals now, get it? No need for that gesture."

The two racers then shake hands. The day has finally ended with a radiant glow from the sunset, a proof that all's well that ends well.

End of Page 24

AUTHOR'S NOTES:

- Oh Takuma you sly fox. You took advantage of the M4's fuel glitch, didn't you?

- And two pages left until this arc ends. Passione Italia III is just around the corner.

Page 25 - A Little Push

Location: Kiehl's home, Stuttgart, Germany
Time: 8 am, the next day

The day started with a windy sunrise. Kiehl wakes up at this hour... which was unusual for him, but it happens from time to time.

He gets downstairs and whip up his favorite coffee to top him off for the morning.

Kiehl acts as if nothing had happened yesterday, when in fact he finally earned Takuma's praise - an achievement he's eager to wait for a lifetime - despite the loss.

He slurps the hot cup, and as he is about to reach for the remote control for the television, his smartphone rings. It's his crew chief calling him. Kiehl immediately answers.

Kiehl: "Hello?"

Albert: "Good morning. Still haven't gotten over it?"

Kiehl: "Oh that... you could say yes. I hope I was stuck at that moment forever, having heard Takuma-san's praise."

Albert: "Hehehehehe... that will rub off soon enough. Anyway, you have time for today? I wanted to show you something while we're idle."

Kiehl: "Sure, why not?"

Albert: "The 24 Hour endurance is moved for one week. Some logistic issues and Balance of Performance adjustments were to be made. We have three weeks to relax."

Kiehl: "I see. Well, I'm coming along. Could be fun."

Albert: "I'll pick you up at 11 am. Is that okay?"

Kiehl looks at the digital wall clock, and the time is now at 8:15 am, definitely giving him a lot of time to prepare.

Kiehl: "Yeah sure. I'll just finish this coffee and then get dressed."

***************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Location: Porsche Headquarters, Stuttgart
Time: 11:30 am

Albert, Kiehl and Rebecca head over to Porsche Headquarters. Kiehl is definitely surprised, but also wondering why.

Kiehl: "Sir, why are we here?"

The three walk to the main office. Then the receptionist sees the three guests and guides them to their place of destination - a garage filled with racing prototypes. They walk past hundreds of retired racing machines, and some of them are to be restored to their former glory.

But the real meat of the visit is not sightseeing, but this...

28511558208_1a21730e9a_c.jpg

Rebecca gasps in awe upon seeing the carbon fiber clad mid-engined 911.

Albert: "I present to you, the 911 RSR Evo."

Kiehl: "Uhhhh... why are we being presented with that?"

Rebecca: "Stop acting clueless. Aren't you excited one bit?"

Kiehl: "Well, I AM clueless as to what's going on."

Albert has just finished talking to the receptionist and then turns his attention to his two drivers.

Albert: "The man in charge of that RSR Evo is busy at the moment, so let me just fill you in instead."

Albert then reads the information on the sheets of paper given to him.

Albert: "The Porsche 911 RSR Evo. Developed solely to tackle the racing circuits around the globe and setting new records to follow on the success of the 919 Hybrid Evo. The first but also the most exhilarating challenge is none other than the Green Hell."

He then reads the middle part. Kiehl crosses his arms as he is intrigued by the last sentence.

Albert: "Much like the 919 Evo, the RSR Evo is also unbound by regulation. Everything was poured by the most dedicated members of the Porsche Motorsport team with their aim to break records."

Kiehl: "So... I assume I will drive that."

Albert: "Of course. We will do it on Saturday, and members of the Porsche Motorsport team, as well as some sports media outlets will be present on the Nordschleife."

Kiehl: "Porsche Motorsport... and media?"

Kiehl briefly looks down, as he is feeling the pressure.

Kiehl: "Looks like this won't be easy. They are watching... and so does the world."

Rebecca: "And you are chosen to do so. This is an opportunity many would kill for. I say you do it."

Albert: "Plus... I think this would send shivers to even the Dream Alliance's spine."

Kiehl briefly clenches his fist.

Kiehl: "I'll do it. Takuma-san told me that we're equals. Those were among the best words I've heard in my life. I'm not gonna let him down. I will have to show him that I am capable of matching... no...

...actually, beating him."

Having heard Kiehl's newfound determination, both Rebecca and Albert show their smiles.

Albert: "That's the kind of spirit I was waiting for all along. Step out of his shadow."

***************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Location: Nurburgring Nordschleife
Time: 12 pm, Saturday

A huge turnout is seen at the Nurburgring Nordschleife pit lane. Kiehl dons his racing suit and puts on his gloves while looking at the elite Porsche mechanics making the last minute preparations. A camera is mounted in the car's cockpit to record Kiehl's driving to be seen by millions of motorsport fans across the world.

He then takes a deep sigh.

Kiehl: "This is it. Focus. Show the world what The Yellow Flash is capable of."

The cue is given to him. He now gets in the car. His hands firmly grip the steering wheel. After a brief moment, he performs the typical start up sequence of a racing car. Upon doing the appropriate order, he then pushes the start button. The unrestricted 4 liter naturally aspirated flat six breathes life. However, even Albert is kept mum on the engine's actual power output.

No matter for Kiehl. He is given a heavy weight on his shoulders. The record has to be broken.

For one last piece of advice before starting, Albert approaches Kiehl.

Albert: "6 minutes and 21 seconds. That was the lap time set by Rob Hatch and his KTM X-Bow R last year. Don't match it. Crush it with your newfound determination."

Kiehl clenches hold of the steering wheel, a sign that he's ready to step out of Dream Alliance's shadow. He then starts to move the car out of the tourist parking lot.

To warm up the tires, he steers the car left and right for a brief moment. Upon getting out of the Dottinger Hohe straight, he composes the car...

...and the time attack begins. The timer starts the moment the RSR passes the start line.

(Background Music)

28511557638_2e3eee560a_c.jpg

Kiehl: "The power output doesn't matter. I can feel it anyway. All I need is to use my best record attack line that I crafted for myself!"

The high-revving engine screams with gusto as it traverses through the continuous corners.

28511556678_2825485c75_c.jpg

Kiehl: "I only have shot at doing this. If I do a second lap, the tires won't last for that."

28511556008_b06a45fba8_c.jpg

The unrestricted Porsche clears the Aremberg hairpin 10 km/h more than what regulated race cars would be able to achieve.

28511555138_f06d1d8421_c.jpg

Then Kiehl makes quick work on the Adenauer Forest section.

28511554498_0655508ae1_c.jpg

Reaching the halfway point... Kiehl then remembers the words that gave him a new lease.

Takuma: "No buts. Don't put yourself down. You're no longer a fan...

...but you are now my equal.

28511553928_a7bdefd1cb_c.jpg

(Background Music)

Kiehl: "All right... EYES ON ME, EVERYONE! I WANT EVERYONE IN THE WORLD WATCHING THIS!"

28511553498_700707444e_c.jpg

The RSR doesn't even flinch at the Karusell hairpin. The accelerator work was simply spot on.

28511552838_f3aa1229e0_c.jpg

The run is already nearing its end. Even the top brass of the Porsche Motorsport division cannot believe his eyes.

28511552268_fb007453c7_c.jpg

The RSR Evo is zipping down the longest straight of the track, its speed is registering at 290 km/h, an impressive feat considering the copious amounts of downforce.

28511551718_615fb082e1_c.jpg

Kiehl: "Nurburgring isn't the only place where The Yellow Flash shall thrive. The rest of the circuits must be ready for my presence."

28511551218_cfe9a38747_c.jpg

Kiehl's right foot is still buried on the accelerator, even after passing Tiergarten where most cars would be slowing down already.

He then applies the brakes on the Hohenrain, surprising everyone since even racing cars would have been already decreased their speeds to minimum.

42385060991_7da8bca54b_c.jpg

Upon passing the finish line, the timer registers...

...6 minutes and 18.1 seconds.

28511550568_7ae4a6b87a_c.jpg

The time is well beyond everyone's expectations. It's 3 seconds off the KTM's time, and of course beating Takuma's Zonda R.

Kiehl then opens up the radio communication.

Kiehl: "How did I do?"

Albert: "6 minutes and... 18.1 seconds. You did it."

Hearing the result is another euphoric moment for Kiehl. He then raises his right arm and clenched his fist as a sign of his success.

End of Page 25

AUTHOR'S NOTES:

- The run was done on a maxed out 911 RSR on Racing Medium tires.

Page 26 - Moving Forward

Location: Dream Alliance Headquarters, Nurburg, Germany
Time: 9 am, the next day

Takuma is alone at the pantry, drinking his coffee. He definitely doesn't want to miss that single habit, and skipping it would immediately cause headaches for him as a result of caffeine withdrawal.

Before he can take another slurp from the hot cup, he looks at his smartphone to check the latest developments in racing, especially that the Nurburgring 24 Hour race is just around the corner.

As he scrolls down, he then sees Kiehl's latest achievement...

...and all he can ever do is put up a grin.

Takuma: "What a guy. I must have really pushed him the moment I said we're equals. Well, we really are.

Sorry Rob, your record is finally broken. Ha!"

Nigel enters the pantry, about the deliver the news as well.

Nigel: "Takuma-san, may I excuse you for a moment?"

Takuma then drinks some more of the coffee. He then puts it down on the small plate.

Takuma: "What is it?"

Nigel: "Have you seen the news? Your Zonda R's record has..."

Takuma: "Beaten? Definitely. But not surprised, either."

Nigel: "Seems like you've really found another rival, huh?"

Takuma: "No denying that. I need to step up my game."

Nigel: "Plus, the M4 that we will use now complies to the BoP regulations for the 24 hour race. It definitely has more power now."

Takuma: "I'm looking forward to it. But I'm pretty sure he's not going to stop there. Kiehl's evolution is never ending."

************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Weeks later, the 24 Hours of Nurburgring takes place.

It was a rather uneventful one for the Dream Alliance, with the rain acting as their only setback. And with Takuma's newfound realization, he was able to score a victory in their class.

40727235950_bdd509d4d8_c.jpg

However, Blitzgelb finished 2nd in both classes they've participated in. The class and overall winner is the Manthey Racing Porsche 911 RSR.

40727232810_e14d168d8c_c.jpg

But that didn't stop Kiehl Muller. All he ever needed was his idol's approval, and he was finally bestowed with it. Beating the lap records made more impact.

He went home with a smile. And his path continues...

************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Location: Dream Alliance Headquarters
Time: 10 am, one week later

Everything is back to normal for the Dream Alliance. Their win in that endurance race attracted more sponsors for them.

The day started with clouds looming over the sky. The weather forecast reported an overcast weather for next two days.

But that didn't stop a certain visitor...

...Kiehl Muller. He then enters the reception area. The receptionist asked him if he has appointment with anyone within the headquarters to which he answered there was none. But he does with to speak with none other than Takuma.

The receptionist picks up the phone to summon Takuma as Kiehl settles down on the sofa, with his legs crossed. After making the call, the receptionist informs him that he is to come down after half an hour.

Exactly half an hour later, Takuma makes his way on the reception hall, carrying his suitcases.

Takuma: "Oh it's you. You wish to see me?"

Kiehl: "Yes, if you don't mind. You're leaving?"

Takuma: "Yeah. I'm on break from racing, so I'll be heading back to London. Another long drive..."

Kiehl: "Is that so? It's a shame then... I was about to ask some racing pointers from you, by having a run."

Takuma: "Pointers? Why? You're already an impressive driver. It's not that I'm the best one there is. I still need to learn more."

Having heard that, Kiehl looks down briefly.

Kiehl: "Oh... okay."

Takuma: "Seems that you have a short term memory, huh? Have you forgotten what I told you before?"

Kiehl delivers the answer in a hesitating tone.

Kiehl: "We're... equals."

Takuma: "Then it's your job to move up and forward, as it is my responsibility as well. I have another rival on my list now. Make sure it stays there, okay?"

Kiehl then brightens up his demeanor, and faces Takuma with a smile once again.

Kiehl: "Got it."

Takuma: "I shall be off then. I hope we have another bout."

Showing a grin, Takuma then leaves with a pat on Kiehl's shoulder. The latter then watches Takuma's departure, with the automatic sliding door closing slowly as he stepped out.

Kiehl: "Walking like that. I hope I'll be able to do it too. I won't gonna let you leave me. We are equals. If he moves forward, then so am I."

Page 1: Young Aristocrat

Location: Dragon Trail Gardens, Croatia
Time: 8 am

A beautiful sunrise greets the Central European country of Croatia. Tourism is on the rise in the country as well, attracting millions of tourists each year.

However, with the recent completion of the Dragon Trail racing complex, expect the numbers to rise.

And a certain car enjoys the Gardens track all by itself...

27843207447_50ca9348a8_c.jpg

27843206207_e6125a0679_c.jpg

A Ferrari 458 Challenge painted in vibrant Rosso Scuderia color is having a shakedown run. It has been on the track since the crack of dawn, and has already done numerous laps.

41812411185_3de2a93693_c.jpg

Driving the stripped out exotic is a young racer pretty much new to the racing scene. His name is Pietro Guidicelli. He could be considered as a fortunate young man with plenty of resources thanks to his father. He's also the person responsible for forming the team named Rosso Pista.

Overseeing the practice is none other his father, named Giorgio. He is responsible of providing what Pietro needs, and has no qualms of doing so since he is a well-known oil magnate in Europe, providing racing fuel to the majority of racing teams scattered across the continent and extending to even some parts of Asia.

Giorgio: "Pietro sure wanted to wake up early, huh? I've never seen him this eager..."

As the 458 is about to take on the next corner, it almost loses stability under trail braking. Pietro reflexively makes the corrections on the steering.

Pietro: "Dammit... I should have strengthened the front brakes a bit."

41812409875_bde2c363ea_c.jpg

But with a modified suspension and slick tires, that skirmish was immediately gotten over with, as the supercar managed to stay planted.

27843202747_a1cc351dbc_c.jpg

Even in its road-going guise, the 458 chassis has proven to be one of the most balanced, earning the praises from car reviewers all over the world.

27843201727_e999b985dd_c.jpg

However, for Pietro... some work still needs to be done. A Ferrari racing event is coming next week, and he wants everything finalized at the end of the day.

He then tells the pit crew to get ready as he is about to return.

Upon returning the pit garage, the crew quickly assemble and tend to every part of the car. Pietro gets out and takes off his helmet. He has a bluish black hair along with a tall frame.

Pietro: "I think the front brakes need more strength. The car tends to be unstable at high speed braking."

The ever supportive Giorgio approaches his son.

Giorgio: "You seem to be motivated today. You weren't like that when I formed the team."

Pietro: "I just have the need for speed. Plus, major racing events are coming soon. It's time to shape up. By the way, how's my lap time?"

Giorgio: " 1 minute and 36.4 seconds. You think you can improve on that once the brakes were fixed?"

Pietro: "Seems so."

However, their conversation was interrupted by the noise of a diesel engine. They see a large truck, painted in yellow.

Giorgio: "Hehehehehe... well, it seems like we're not alone."

Pietro: "Who could that be?"

The newly arrived team settles at the pit garage just beside them, so the pair visited out of curiosity.

Upon seeing the car loaded out of the truck and placed in the garage, Pietro immediately recognizes the bright yellow livery.

28838203118_66607df884_c.jpg

Pietro: "Team Blitzgelb."

Giorgio: "A Porsche 911?"

Pietro: "Hmph. I know him..."

Giorgio: "Huh?"

As if on cue, the driver in question joins his crew in setting up the 911. He is none other than Kiehl Muller, who has been quickly rising in fame and earning the attention of even the Dream Alliance.

Pietro: "He is no ordinary driver. And that car isn't ordinary either."

Giorgio: "Oh?"

Pietro: "He is called "The Yellow Flash" for a reason."

With the tires installed quickly, Kiehl puts on his race suit and helmet and enters the car. He then starts it up. The loud roar of the 4 liter flat six echoes in the entire pit garage. The father and son pair move out of the way as the yellow Porsche exits the pit garage, starting its practice.

27843201167_960e2dae7e_c.jpg

Pietro: "Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. I wonder if it's a worthy match for the 458 Challenge."

Pietro decides to watch for a while, and see if the Yellow Flash lives up to its reputation.

Having seen the bright yellow Porsche exit the pits, Pietro quickly run back to the pit garage and asked one of the crew members to take out the stopwatch.

Pietro: "Anselmo, please take out the stopwatch."

But Giorgio intervenes.

Giorgio: "Never you worry, this track has the latest timing equipment. Sector times are even displayed for everyone to see. Just look at the numbers pop out one by one."

Then Pietro crosses his arms, with his mind clouded with doubt.

Pietro: "Why is everyone clamoring about the Porsche 911? I just don't get it. Like, everyone is putting it on the same pedestal as a Ferrari, even though the spec sheets say otherwise."

28113002917_d386e94283_c.jpg

28113002687_2bbc7aecae_c.jpg

The 911 is already hot on its heels even on the warm up lap, typical of Kiehl Muller.

Once they hear the roaring Porsche at the straights, the circuit's timing system starts to record the lap.

(Background Music)

42981311521_b871e37e42_c.jpg

Pietro still has his condescending thoughts about the car.

Pietro: "Porsche has always been so proud of their victories throughout their history, and use that as a marketing tool. Ferrari has been doing that way back! Porsche is seriously over-hyping everything, including the 911! I have no doubts about that guy's skill, but still..."

42981311271_3699a1280c_c.jpg

The time for the 1st sector shows up, and the Italian racing crew couldn't believe their eyes.

Giorgio: "That German racer is living up to his name after all, Pietro."

28113001967_92b006bff9_c.jpg

Giorgio: "He's a lot faster than you."

This prompts Pietro to gasp. The timer does not lie.

28113001677_e46b350fe4_c.jpg

In a flash, Pietro gets in the 458, initiating the start up sequence. The 4.5 liter naturally aspirated V8 breathes out a roar.

Giorgio: "Pietro!"

Pietro: "I want to see it by myself. I'm heading out!"

28113001457_f2a555f7fe_c.jpg

The GT3 RS sticks at the inside of the final corner. As if on cue, the 458 is exiting the pit lane slowly.

Giorgio then looks at the timing board as the Porsche crosses the line. It recorded a lap of 1 minute and 34.3 seconds. That's two seconds faster than the 458 Challenge.

Even the old man could not believe at the result, considering his unwavering loyalty to the Ferrari brand.

Giorgio: "Pietro and I are sorely mistaken... Sure, the Porsche 911 has been a respectable sports car, but I never thought it would hold on against a Ferrari in road racing. Maybe Porsche's Targa Florio victories are true after all."

42981310861_748ce205e7_c.jpg

Pietro done the perfect timing on catching on to the RS, and has the intent on engaging on a duel.

28113001197_0955ac15d9_c.jpg

Pietro: "Don't hold back. I want to see why even the Dream Alliance trembles in fear at your presence!"

Stuttgart versus Modena. A decades-long rivalry in motorsport.

AUTHOR'S NOTES:

- The second main character will be introduced in the next page. He is completely new to the story line.

- As a little challenge for you: Can you beat the GT3 RS' time? You have to use a GT3 RS, mimic the settings of Kiehl's Porsche in the previous post and use RH tires. The track is Dragon Trail Gardens II.

Page 3 - Freedom

Pietro locks on at the Yellow Flash. The Ferrari has an advantage in power.

42408665464_8a500d6bb0_c.jpg

Pietro: "I will have to see it for myself... how fast you truly are!"

It seems his curiosity got him more than he asked for.

(Background Music)

The 911 exhibits faster corner entry speeds. The 991 chassis has completely ironed out the quirks that old 911s used to have.

42408665264_f3d8ba2516_c.jpg

Pietro: "As far as I know, a 911 driver has to work double the effort just to make the car turn in faster in corners. That's what makes the 911 an appealing sports car for a discerning enthusiast.

But what I'm seeing is out of this world!"

Even at the continuous corners, the Porsche keeps on soldiering on.

42408665104_f493f5b7ba_c.jpg

Pietro: "People say Kiehl is mostly a serious driver, but his driving is far from it! Is that how a calculated person tackles on a race track?"

42408664984_ebb0835509_c.jpg

And Pietro gets another surprise when he sees the 911 brake much later after the back straight.

Pietro: "What?! I almost got worried there. I thought he's heading straight to the barriers!"

He had never exerted this much effort before. Pietro has now found a driver eclipsing his level.

Pietro: "What I'm doing right now would really cost me the tires. Am I this pathetic?!"

42408664814_b0614142c2_c.jpg

Pietro: "I've completely underestimated Porsche 911s. But even worse... I was not prepared for a driver like Kiehl Muller!"

Location: A prison complex in Tuscany, Italy

Meanwhile, at a prison complex located in Tuscany...

The morning started like every other morning. Prisoners assemble for the daily morning exercise.

One of them is exhibiting a more euphoric effort in warming up. He is a man in his 30s, having a short blond hair and a physique similar to Rob or Louis. His name is Vincenzo Romano. He was a prominent race car driver who got incarcerated due to robbery...

...but not for long. Today is his last day. He got the freedom he didn't expect. He lingered for just six months, and was released due to the lack of evidence.

After his final exercise, he was summoned by the warden.

The warden escorts him to the visitors area. While he is definitely relieved that he'll be a free man, he didn't expect someone to pick him up.

Vincenzo: "Who will be picking me up? As far as I know, I have left my family over a decade ago."

As an answer to his question, a man puts a bag on the table, the man is none other than Alessandro Rossi, a renowned racing mechanic.

Alessandro: "Get dressed."

Vincenzo gasps at Alessandro's presence.

Alessandro: "No need to be starstruck. Let's go."

Vincenzo then returns to his cocky self, showing up a grin on his face.

Vincenzo: "Hmph... what a pleasant surprise. I'd never expect you to pick me up."

After getting dressed and cleared, Vincenzo gets the taste of freedom. He and Alessandro get in a hatchback and are on their way.

Vincenzo gazes by the window, but just as he is about to doze off, he then starts the conversation.

Vincenzo: "I appreciate you picking me up. But why did you do so?"

Alessandro: "Because you still got it. Simple as that. I need your skill."

Vincenzo: "Six months... six months I never heard of someone saying that. The racing world completely shunned me."

Alessandro: "Ha! Not anymore. You will have your chance."

Vincenzo: "It will be hard to recover from this."

Alessandro: "Anyhow, I believe you shouldn't be even thinking about that. What you should be thinking about right now...

28257936537_3f91e2c990_c.jpg

...is the surprise I have for you. It's waiting at my garage."

AUTHOR'S NOTES:

- Originally, the second main character was supposed to be Giuseppe, but I could not think of his further development, considering that he chose to be an artist.

- Vincenzo's background is to be posted at the Character Profile section shortly.

Page 4 - Reality

Pietro, still showing signs of eagerness, steps hard on the accelerator.

Pietro: "I have a multi-million Euro team backing me up. There's nothing for me to worry about. I get the best parts with the best crew managing them.

...yet why?"

(Background Music)

42639847675_1f6897fca7_c.jpg

Pietro: "I'm pretty sure he has the same backing too. Yet why are we so different? Shouldn't we be... equal?"

However, his belief doesn't translate well on the track. The Porsche shows no sign of dropping its pace. Its driver is as calculated as a robot.

43545155181_cd1986625e_c.jpg

Pietro attempts to close the gap, but initiating more aggression on the next corner.

However...

Pietro: "Understeer! I've gotten too aggressive maybe because of curiosity... and desperation?"

42639847105_1a965db7ea_c.jpg

Pietro: "Blitzgelb is still a start-up team... and yet why?"

42639846605_89815c2fcf_c.jpg

Pietro: "What I'm seeing is outside the boundaries of what's possible. Or perhaps... I'm lacking something."

42639846425_84993df0f4_c.jpg

Entering the third lap, despite all of Pietro's best efforts, they have done nothing to improve his chances of victory.

43545153791_d50aac2d28_c.jpg

Giving everything he can, from what he garnered from his racing experience, he steps on the brake pedal as late as he can, possibly even defying logic.

42639846015_75152f45a4_c.jpg

He then nurses the steering angle, just so it won't put too much strain on the tires. Next, he would get back up on the throttle as soon as possible.

But his solution was short-lived...

The 458 went in the next, right-hand corner too fast, meeting the ditch instead of tarmac.

Pietro: "Too fast!"

28657549627_3447d9f8a3_c.jpg

He applies the opposite lock, but the excess speed makes it impossible to recover.

42639845725_b371e6e392_c.jpg

The Ferrari eventually manages to recover, but it is obvious that the bright yellow 911 is out of his range.

28657549327_668db4c86b_c.jpg

42639845365_ae0141a515_c.jpg

Having never experienced something like this before, a thought sinks in Pietro's mind.

Pietro: "The racing world is filled with interesting people like Kiehl. Maybe I should think outside the box... I thought, I have everything. I thought I could just step on the pedals and steer the wheel in order to win."

Location: Alessandro's home in Tuscany

Meanwhile, Alessandro and Vincenzo arrive at the former's home. The two men get out of the car. Vincenzo carries his bag only with his right hand. He looks around the ample amount of vegetation surrounding his home.

Vincenzo: "Wow. You're such a gardener."

Alessandro: "Life would be depressing without greenery in the world, wouldn't it? I even make my own wine, you know? Just for extra profit."

Vincenzo: "Extra profit? That sounds like my former boss... Giorgio Guidicelli."

Alessandro then opens the front door, and lets his guest in with curiosity on the name that was mentioned.

Alessandro: "Giorgio?"

Vincenzo: "You know him?"

Alessandro: "Ah, that oil magnate. He also runs a racing team, now with his son representing."

Vincenzo: "That rich old fart. He put me behind bars without even bothering to look at the evidence."

Alessandro: "Oh... fascinating."

Vincenzo: "And I got to know his son too. Pietro? Ha. I doubt he'll even reach the FIA Gr.3 with his entitled attitude. He thinks he has it all."

Alessandro: "You speak like you bear a grudge."

Vincenzo: "Nah. Time to move on. I'd rather heal. But as for Pietro?"

Alessandro: "What about him?"

Vincenzo shows a grin on his face, as he drops the bag on the floor.

Vincenzo: "I pity him. He has yet to know what REAL RACING is."

Alessandro: "Heh. Well, time to show it to me first. Come over here."

Just beside the staircase is a door leading to his garage. The two head in.

And then Vincenzo could only react with a gasp upon seeing a certain car.

28257936537_3f91e2c990_c.jpg

Alessandro: "Don't be mistaken though. It's half Alfa 4C, half bespoke. The body may be, but the rear subframe is custom built by myself. I have built two, actually."

Vincenzo: "Sounds like you're the real deal, Alessandro. I thought you're just a stranger willing to adopt me."

Alessandro: "Time to prove your worth to me first... and we'll do it in Brazil. Those rich brats there pretty much have the same demeanor as Pietro has. Interlagos has been a playground of the rich lately, and is hosting multiple road car races as of late."

Pietro wakes up in his room, located at the second floor overlooking the patio where his father's LaFerrari is parked. It bodes well with the morning sun.

However, as for him, he's quite the opposite...

Pietro: "Typical morning. Though I'm not in my usual self right now. I can't get over what happened yesterday morning..."

As he sits on his bed, mulling over at that race, someone knocks on the door. It's his butler.

Butler: "Signore, breakfast is ready. Please head downstairs, your father is summoning you."

Pietro gets out of the room, then descends the spiral staircase. The cleaners are heading up, about to clean his room.

He then arrives at the dining room, adorned with photos of his late mother. His father is drinking tea, and their breakfast is being served by his butler. Pietro sits, and looks at the meal. Giorgio notices his son's change of mood not usual for him.

Giorgio: "What's wrong, Pietro? I know you like mornings."

Pietro: "Not much, really... Or maybe I'm just running out of words to say to my video blog later on."

Pietro also has a motoring review YouTube account. He has garnered a rather high subscriber count of 1 million. He only does so whenever he's free, but his videos are always to anticipate for.

Pietro: "About that race yesterday morning..."

retro1.jpg

retro2.jpg

Pietro: "It kind of... scarred me."

Giorgio: "That? Just get over it! At least it happened on a practice run. It's way worse if it happened on a real race. You were just taken by shock. You've got everything you asked for, and maybe you need a bit more practice."

Pietro: "That's the point. But still... why do I feel I lack something? That race made me realize that."

Giorgio: "My son, trust me. Do not doubt yourself. You have the team with the skilled mechanics and with the finest quality parts. In what way do you feel you lack something?"

Pietro then takes a sip of his coffee.

Pietro: "I'll find out... by myself. I'm a grown man."

Giorgio: "You are right. Just make sure you don't put our family name in hot water, okay?"

Pietro: "Of course I won't. If I make a mess, then it's my job to fix it. No need for your involvement."

Upon hearing his son's words, however, Giorgio's face take a more serious turn. But before he can utter more, Pietro is finished with his breakfast and heads to the living room as he waits for the servants to finish cleaning his room.

Location: Autodromo Lago Maggiore
Time: 12 pm

At noon time, Alessandro and Vincenzo are at Autodromo Lago Maggiore for a shakedown of the heavily modified Alfa 4C.

43122664085_43654095b3_c.jpg

The latter is at the helm, while the former is at the passenger seat, making an observation.

Alessandro: "Wow... you are sharp as ever."

Vincenzo: "Am I?"

The turbocharged 1.8 liter 4 cylinder makes a little over 600 horsepower. An impressive feat considering the size of the engine. But even with this much power, the custom-built chassis is more than enough to take on the strain. The rear shows no sign of breaking out in the turns.

43122663935_cd5c924aeb_c.jpg

Vincenzo: "I used to drive a regular 4C and it was skittish. Now this drives like a totally different car."

30160229058_8c1a7e5cb3_c.jpg

Alessandro: "Hmph. What's even more impressive is the fact how you grasped this track. This is a newly-opened circuit. Next week will be its grand opening, and to celebrate that, the round 1 of the FIA Group 3 championship will take place here. Care to watch?"

43122663865_df81eba8a7_c.jpg

Vincenzo: "Sounds interesting. At least that will provide me a bit of motivation before flying to Brazil."

After running just three laps (due to the track's management giving only three laps per driver on casual sessions for soft opening), the pair decided to call it a day and leave the track premises.

As they are heading back home, Alessandro watches YouTube to keep himself entertained for the trip. He then switches to another video, this time watching Pietro's latest video.

It's only a video blog, and Pietro recorded it in his room, apparently.

"Good day viewers, Pietro here. What's up? Oh you may realize I'm not so happy right now. Don't worry, nothing major really happened, it's just that I came upon a realization.

Yesterday I encountered The Yellow Flash of Stuttgart named Kiehl Muller. I thought he's just a casual racer trying to have fun on the track but then after chasing him for a few laps, my mind was blown. He's the real deal.

I gave everything I got, but then I stopped to think that I lack something...

I've got everything. The team, the money, my ever supportive father, and you guys. All I thought along was that I'm complete. Racing him changed my viewpoint--"

Alessandro abruptly closes the app and locks his smartphone.

Alessandro: "Seriously... are people like this nowadays? Sulking over small stuff and put it in a video for everyone to see?"

Vincenzo could only react with a smirk.

Vincenzo: "That man... he's nothing without his father. He's basically... nothing. Even the race track will prove it to him. You've got all the fancy parts and support, but once you're in the circuit, everything is fair play. No amount of expensive gadgetry can save you from defeat, an engine blow, or a crash. Once your car is done... your career is done for.

I experienced that myself. I thought that old man Giorgio was the man I can truly trust on. But a petty crime I got framed for dropped me like a hot potato... in jail out of all places."

Alessandro: "Look who's sulking now."

Vincenzo: "I'd be more than happy..."

Vincenzo then applies more pressure on the accelerator, a sign of his determination starting to return.

Vincenzo: "...to wake him up to reality. THAT'S ALL HE NEEDS."

Location: Autodromo Lago Maggiore
Time: 10:15 am, one week later

The first round of the FIA Gr. 3 Championship unfolds. Scores of people gather around as early as the crack of dawn to witness the event and get seats for themselves. Of course the teams were also early birds to make the necessary adjustments.

As planned, Vincenzo and Alessandro arrive to spectate. They parked at a large indoor parking lot spanning seven floors and extra four basement floors.

Vincenzo: "Hmph. Pretty sure the owner of this track have got the parking covered."

Alessandro: "This was approved by the FIA, and if you want your track to be one, then it has to be as vast as you can imagine."

As they make their way to the bleachers, they notice at an instant a flashy hypercar.

44131875831_93d88b143e_c.jpg

Alessandro: "Too much aero parts."

Vincenzo: "Someone had the guts to modify at Chiron? I certainly see no problem with that, as long as the driver can handle it."

While they are quick to dismiss the car, they pass by a familiar figure. Vincenzo stops on his tracks.

44131875391_e3dd89d901_c.jpg

Vincenzo: "So... that old man Giorgio is also here. Oh this will be an interesting day indeed."

Alessandro: "Don't tell me you're going to see him."

Vincenzo: "If fate allowed us, then why not? It would be fine either way."

Alessandro: "He'll be in for a total shock."

A few moments later, an announcement was heard. The race is about to start. The audience start to gather at the circuit's bleachers. Vincenzo and Alessandro sit at the back, and to their surprise, they see Pietro and Giorgio sitting at the front, a few steps down.

This prompted Vincenzo to stand, but in an instant, Alessandro uses his right arm to block the attempt.

Alessandro: "Sit down, amico mio. You're better than that, aren't you?"

Vincenzo: "I would seriously love to punch that pretty boy's face."

Alessandro: "You'll get your turn soon enough. Now take your seat."

The first round begins, with the Blitzgelb 911 RSR soaring quickly through the ranks.

25791547838_27bebe6120_c.jpg

Pietro once again makes an analysis on Kiehl...

Pietro: "I wonder how it would turn out if I get to face him in this category?"

Giorgio: "You'll do fine, like I always say. You've got everything under control."

Pietro: "I know that, but..."

The troubled youth clenches his fists.

25791554048_0b93ca3628_c.jpg

Pietro: "It's not that a race will be smooth sailing, am I right? No matter how much resources you have, something is bound to go wrong."

Giorgio: "That is precisely why I hire only the best, and some have even worked for Ferrari before."

38766581795_ab494f9abe_c.jpg

They see the RSR blitzing by the main straight. Pietro's anxiety grows.

Pietro: "Wow... that RSR passes them like cones on a standstill."

25791540388_a709c33d50_c.jpg

A few seconds have passed, and the Dream Alliance M6 GT3 is also gaining ground.

Pietro: "Regarding your statement earlier..."

Giorgio: "Huh?"

Pietro: "Dream Alliance is the perfect example of what you said."

Giorgio: "And...?"

Pietro: "Then why are they struggling? If they have everything, why would they struggle?"

25791538798_733b99d0ec_c.jpg

Pietro then stands up.

Pietro: "I'm heading to the restroom."

Seeing Pietro stand is the perfect opportunity for Vincenzo. He too stands up, in an attempt to stalk him around.

Alessandro: "Where are you going?"

Vincenzo: "I need to go to the bathroom."

Vincenzo allows a few meters of gap between him and Pietro, as the two make their way to the restroom. Unknown to the latter, he is in for a total shock.

(Background music)

Vincenzo waits outside, leaning on the wall just beside the restroom entrance. He hears Pietro's footsteps, getting closer.

The moment he's waiting for finally surfaces. As Pietro steps out...

Vincenzo: "Well... the pretty boy is still the pretty boy, eh?"

Hearing that familiar voice, Pietro stops and turns his head towards Vincenzo.

Pietro: "You? How...?"

Vincenzo: "Surprised, pretty boy? Your old man sure had the lack of evidence... and a brain to go along with it. That's why I can finally enjoy the wonders of Italian landscape once more. Free as a bird."

Pietro: "Why you...!"

Vincenzo: "Simmer down, pretty boy. I thought the elite act according to their class. The law favors no one. And so do racing. Let me ask you a question, Pietro Guidicelli."

Pietro: "What is it?"

Vincenzo: "You're the darling of your racing team now, am I right? Now, are you feeling satisfied? Is there a sense of progress you're feeling?"

With his current state of mind, Pietro simply looks away.

Vincenzo: "Can't answer? No surprise. Your brain had too much money to process. Listen kiddo, you won't get ahead if you think you've got everything. Your father drilled that into my head but nothing worked. I raced simply because I believed in myself that I can win this. But, one wrong step and...

pageeight6.jpg

pageeight9.jpg

...it's game over for you. No amount of money nor social media presence can fix that. This is the reality, pretty boy."

Pietro then gasps slightly.

Vincenzo: "Time to wake up, Pietro. You're not everyone's darling. Posting a video blog won't change that either."

Vincenzo walks away, having finally said his piece.

Vincenzo: "Oh, and by the way, send my regards to your father. Ciao!"

All alone, along with a slight gust of wind, Pietro clenches his fist once more. The anxiety grows even further.

Pietro: "I am now getting this feeling... that Vincenzo is right all along. What am I doing? This confirms my suspicion that I truly lack something."

retro2.jpg

Pietro then starts to walk, returning to the bleachers.

Pietro: "From now on... I will fill that void. I'm going to show you, Vincenzo. Just you wait. I am more than just a darling."

Location: Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace (a.k.a. Interlagos), Sao Paulo, Brazil
Time: 5 pm, one week later

The sun is about to set in the tropical country of Brazil, but that doesn't mean the day is over yet...

...for racing, that is.

Set in the famous Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace... or famously known as Interlagos, the race is filled with affluent racers with more money than they can count, fitting very well with Alessandro's description.

30621884878_64371b7407_c.jpg

This shall also be the avenue for Vincenzo to prove his worth.

Alessandro is at the pit lane, merely holding the radiophone. He is smiling, feeling the confidence and sensing the revival of his team coming full circle.

Alessandro: "Vincenzo is already showing to be a top driver. He hasn't lost his edge... Perfect for my upcoming team."

30621884668_dc03409758_c.jpg

Meanwhile, Vincenzo has quickly adjusted to the car's handling.

Vincenzo: "This feels great. This is how an Alfa Romeo 4C should be!"

Even though the 4C slightly kicks its rear end out, the seasoned Italian racer countersteers with glee.

29554033997_de130f9ca3_c.jpg

Vincenzo: "This isn't some clinically precise supercar like a Porsche, but I want it that way. I haven't felt this invigorated!"

His satisfaction reflects very well in his performance, overtaking even the legendary supercars.

43581934815_63ddc4fa05_c.jpg

Vincenzo: "I have nothing against affluent people, but come on... Don't tell me you can only flash your cash!"

Alessandro then opens up the radio communication.

Alessandro: "Status?"

43773521994_eb0ced32cb_c.jpg

Vincenzo: "This car is solid. You build great cars, old man! Why don't you create a racing team?"

Alessandro: "I've been planning that for ages. Now you should see why you're here. This is a test."

Vincenzo: "A test? I'm bad at tests in school! But..."

With his energy lingering, he then steps on the accelerator pedal even harder.

43773521184_f3a5ae246a_c.jpg

Vincenzo: "This is one test I'm more than willing to pass!"

43581934535_328b70d662_c.jpg

Vincenzo soldiers on... aiming to take the top prize. His new lease in life is assured.

Location: Alsace Village, France
Time: 10 pm

Meanwhile, somewhere in Europe...

The hills of France are alive with the sound of racing. A night race is about to take place, as multiple modified hatchbacks and sports cars are revving their engines.

Then at the back of the pack, a car lines up just in time...

43773520674_c94544d143_c.jpg

Pietro: "I'm starting off. Time to show the world what I'm TRULY capable of! I'm more than just a YouTuber!"

"3... 2... 1... GO!!!"

End of Page 7

Page 8 - Starting Off

Having gone missing in action, Pietro decides to start off with a clean slate - attempting to attract a sponsor and have an entirely different direction in his racing life. Vincenzo may have finally knocked him into reality after all.

20180908172230.jpg

The race is organized, and a few sponsors from various corners around the world are watching.

Pietro: "Sorry to ditch you, Papa. But I want to take a different direction... I'll explain everything to you when I'm ready."

(Background Music)

20180908172238.jpg

While the Delta HF Integrale and some minimal tuning did cost him a lot of money (thanks in majority to the rarity of the car), he is proving to the pack that he is more than just a handsome face on the internet.

20180908172246.jpg

Overtaking an R8 is no easy feat, but Pietro is more than eager to break the mold.

20180908172254.jpg

Pietro: "Good thing I spent a lot of hours learning mechanics from the crew even though Papa does not allow me going near a wrench. I'm happy how my tuning paid off!"

20180908172301.jpg

Meanwhile, a tall man wearing a trench coat and sunglasses come up to the bleachers.

After checking something from his smartphone, he immediately looks at the main straight as he hears cars roaring along. He then aims his eyes straight to the classic Italian hatchback.

20180908172310.jpg

And, he's none other than...

Russell: "I got you now. You think you can keep yourself hidden? Not from me you won't."

20180908172318.jpg

Russell: "You made a bold move to run away. But you actually did the right thing."

20180908172326.jpg

The ex-Army lieutenant simply shows a grin.

Russell: "You've got potential kid. Let me help you out."

Just before the second lap ends, Pietro lines up behind the race leader, a BMW M4.

20180908172334.jpg

Pietro: "You think I'm all show and no go? Think again, losers."

20180908172342.jpg

Pietro makes a daring braking contest at the downhill slope right before the chicane leading to the finish.

20180908172351.jpg

Pietro: "Papa... this what I truly meant. This is the kind of satisfaction I'm looking for. I'm grateful you provided everything for me in racing...

...but I also want a real challenge. Real racing does not care about wealth nor prestige."

Shocking everyone from the bleachers, the old rally hatchback prevails against modern machinery.

Russell: "You just got yourself a sponsor, rich kid. You've earned it."

20180908172359.jpg

Just an hour later, Pietro is one of the few left in the pit garages still cleaning up the mess - something he had never done before.

But one soon-to-be benefactor assists him...

Russell: "Yo, rich boy! Let me help you!"

Pietro looks back, and he stares at who is a total stranger to him.

Pietro: "Rich boy? I'm Pietro Guidicelli."

Russell: "Feisty. From a man wanting a total change."

This realization hits Pietro, that he hangs his head in shame.

Pietro: "Oh..."

Russell: "Don't be alarmed, my name is Russell Midfield. I'm your sponsor from now on. You've earned it."

The news immediately clears away Pietro's embarrassment.

Pietro: "R-Really?! I thought I was about to give this up earlier, since no sponsor came up."

Russell: "Now you see the reality. You may be a social media star, but one move made you a nobody. But in actuality, I like what you did. You threw away fame and want to start something new. It will now be your turn to shine, but in your own way."

Pietro: "That's right. And thank you for choosing me."

Russell: "Hmph. Enough of the drama. Let's clean up and then you'll be coming with me. Don't worry, I'm not taking you back to your father for now. I will, however, make him see you as a greater man than him when you come back."

***************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Location: Los Angeles, California, USA
Time: 10 pm, three days later

Los Angeles city...

...one of the busiest cities in the world, brimming with energy and progress, an example of a megacity.

The pair just arrived, with Russell assuming a different identity in his passport. He is considered dead in this country. They managed to rent a car.

20180911182610.jpg

Pietro: "Ummmmm... may I ask? You've kept me in the dark ever since you asked me to come."

Russell: "Sorry. But you deserve to know. This is another test."

Pietro: "Another test?"

Russell: "The race was the first one, and now let's see if you can pass this one."

Pietro: "All right, what is it?"

Russell: "We will have to... "acquire" a certain car."

Pietro: "What car is it?"

Russell: "A blue SRT Viper GTS. To be more specific... my son's car."

End of Page 8

Page 9: Father

Sensing a hunch in the second challenge to be given to him, Pietro immediately asks.

20180911182610.jpg

Pietro: "Your son's car? A blue Viper?"

The seasoned veteran breathes out a sigh, as if treating the subject matter as a sensitive one.

Russell: "Ever known of Andy Midfield?"

Pietro: "Of course. He's one of the Dream Alliance racers, am I right? They're very popular, so it's natural for me to know about them."

Russell: "That's good to know. He's been racing a lot lately."

Pietro: "Yeah, but..."

Russell: "He needs his motivation back. And we're helping him."

Pietro: "I'm glad to be a part of it. I like what they're doing."

Russell: "Very well... let me brief you what we're doing tomorrow."

Pietro: "Sounds like a lot."

Russell: "Nope. It's a simple task. We're going to steal it."

Pietro's eyes widened.

Pietro: "Stealing? Hey, are you going to recruit me to some criminal organization?!"

Pietro's reaction provided humor to Russell's ears.

Russell: "Silly boy. You speak as if your family has a clean track record."

Pietro: "You're getting creepier the more I know you."

Russell: "Part of my day job back then was to gather intel. I still got it."

Pietro: "How do you know about my family?"

Russell: "Giorgio Guidicelli is the son of one of the highly respected members of an Italian mafia that operates majorly within your country and some parts of Switzerland. And here I thought you're aware of that to the point you want to start in a clean slate."

Pietro: "I never knew about my grandfather anyway since he's dead. So I didn't ask."

Russell: "Then I pity you. But not anymore. This test is to see your resolve."

Pietro: "This is ridiculous. Resolve? Resolve to do something illegal?!"

Russell: "Stealing will always be illegal. Let me take care of that. But let's see where your resolve comes from. Is it from your background? Or from yourself?"

Pietro: "But..."

Russell: "I can always send you home and tell your father what you've been up to. Or if you choose to help me out and get yourself started with a new you. So which will it be?"

Pietro: *heavy sigh* "Fine, I'll help you out. But no more of this next time, okay?"

Russell: "That's a good boy. You are indeed raised well. I wish Andy was like that when he was young. We'll go check in a hotel for the night. Is a three-star hotel good for you? We need to.. get under the radar."

Pietro: "Anywhere is okay. I'm tired."

*************************************************************************************************************************************************

Location: Andy's home
Time: 6 am, the next day

The pair starts off the day early as part of their plan. Andy's shop is open at 10 in the morning, but Melissa comes in at 8 to prepare for everything.

Seeing the absence of any car nor person, Russell parks the car just beside the garage door. He then gives a mask to Pietro.

Russell: "Here. Cover your face."

Pietro: "Gotcha."

Russell then opens up a bag on the backseat. It's a small explosive device, fitting just within the palm of the hand.

20180911182619.jpg

Pietro: "What are you going to do with that?"

Russell: "Let's start this day with a bang."

Russell first moves the car away to a safer distance. Then after parking, the pair approach the garage door. Russell easily attaches the explosive device nearby the lock.

The two then move away to protect themselves from the explosion. Russell presses the button from his pocket. An explosion occurs, but only small enough just to cause a hole for them to enter.

Russell: "Let's roll."

They run quickly and managed to enter through the hole. Upon entering, Russell lifts the heavy garage door, and Pietro could only stare at the menacing American sports car.

20180911182959.jpg

Pietro: "This is it. Sorry Andy, but this is for my renewal!"

Russell manages to find the Viper's key fob, and throws it to Pietro.

Russell: "Catch!"

Pietro catches it, and then Russell leaves a note on the table... a note of the car's future whereabouts.

Pietro unlocks the car, and gets in. He switches on the engine, shifts to first gear and then disengages the handbrake. Then he starts on accelerating the car. Swiftly, Russell gets back to the rental car.

The pair make a swift getaway. While driving, Pietro removes his mask. He then sees his phone ringing, he answers it and Russell is on the other line.

Pietro: "Yes?"

Russell: "I'll send you the coordinates. Use the GPS. We'll go there."

After the call, he sees the coordinates through text. He then opens up the GPS and inputs the said coordinates. It leads them away from the city.

20180911182627.jpg

Half an hour later, they arrive at what seems to be an abandoned warehouse. But as they enter, it is fully furnished.

Upon getting out of the car, Pietro looks around the garage.

Pietro: "Whew... I thought the authorities will chase us here."

Russell: "No one will find us here. Anyhow, we'll wait for my crew to load that Viper up. It will be sent over to Germany for a transformation. It's... a surprise gift."

Pietro: "Wow."

As he further explores, he spots a bright red Ferrari Enzo.

20180912173517.jpg

Pietro: "Hey! What's this Enzo?"

Russell immediately turns his attention to that once notorious supercar.

Russell: "Oh that... I got it from an auction. Was heavily damaged when I came to collect it. It belonged to a former buddy of mine who got rogue. I fixed that up. And... by the way, since you are here..."

Russell walks closer to the exotica.

Russell: "There is an invitation-only event tomorrow that I seriously want to decline, but now you're here, you'll be my driver. Time to show me your chops."

Pietro: "Thank goodness it's legit."

Russell: "Care to take her out for a spin? You're an expert at those things, am I right?"

Pietro: "Yep. I'm the man."

Moments later, the Enzo roars along the hills nearby. Pietro is astounded by the performance.

Pietro: "Whoa! Is this...?"

20180912173538.jpg

Russell: "Isn't it obvious? This car was modified to spy on street racers and therefore has to do the job."

20180912173636.jpg

Pietro: "This drives great! It's close to my Papa's LaFerrari."

Russell: "Papa, huh?"

20180912173722.jpg

The mood suddenly turns down for Russell.

Russell: "How I wish I can hear Andy say "Dad" again."

Pietro: "Huh?"

Russell: "You're a son, so let me ask you this: Will you forgive your father if he suddenly comes back after being gone for years?"

Pietro: "Well... I would be mad first, and then tell everything I feel. But then... I would have to be happy, because the other person who made me complete finally returns home."

Russell: "You're more than just riches, boy. I'm starting to be impressed. I wish what you said would happen to me."

Suddenly, Russell pulls out a gun and sticks it to Pietro's head. He returns to his no-nonsense self.

Russell: "Now, THIS didn't happen, okay?"

Pietro takes a big gulp as he feels the tension, the sudden moment his life would be taken away in a flash.

Pietro:
"Y-yes, sir."

Russell:
"Good."

Russell stashes the handgun back to his pocket.

Russell:
"Relax, kid. There are more dangerous people out there. Trust me, I AM FRIENDLY."

They return to the city after the brief shakedown. Pietro tries to forget the tension earlier.

20180912173734.jpg

Pietro: "So... ummmm... where next?"

Russell: "What kind of food do you want to eat?"

End of Page 9

Page 10: Out and In

Location: Willow Springs Circuit, California
Time: 5 pm, the next day

Russell takes the invitation, now that he has a driver to represent...

...and that driver now has a new resolve, once again ready to take on the world. His dependency has now shrunken to almost nil.

An announcement was now made, all drivers are to line up at the starting point. The grid is composed of heavily modified cars and exotics. It's an invitation-only event, with best tuners and drivers handpicked by organizers for weeks.

Before Pietro can open the Enzo's butterfly door, he clenches his right fist. On his side is Russell.

Russell: "I know this can be cliche, but let me tell you... YOU CAN DO IT. You can be a hero in your own way. Shake off whatever it is you're feeling right now. Hesitation can cost a victory."

Pietro lets out a sigh.

Pietro: "I wish my father says more of those things. I guess I have to make it on my own from now on."

Russell: "Get sponsors to notice you because of your own efforts. That's how legends do it."

Russell gives a pat on Pietro's shoulder, a sign of assurance. Then the young Italian socialite racer gets in the cockpit and starts up the car. He then lines up at the back.

Waiting for the go signal, he repeatedly steps on the accelerator, revving the highly tuned 6 liter V12.

20180914215407.jpg

Pietro: "Out with the old... in with the new. I'm not going to be babied just like before. I will now think... and do for myself."

"3... 2... 1... GO!!!"

(Background Music)

And the sound of heavily modified machinery kicks off the race.

20180914215419.jpg

The chassis was also paid attention with, as the car flies through the high speed right hand turn while overtaking.

20180914215427.jpg

Pietro: "You guys are a piece of cake. You give us a bad name."

20180914215435.jpg

Pietro: "I guess there's no need to be fancy and all when it comes to overtaking. I will give the fight to them."

True to his thoughts, he delivers pressure to his opponent in front.

20180914215443.jpg

Pietro: "Yeah yeah... you can call us snobby trust fund babies with cars provided by their parents. But guess what, I'm here to put YOU into your place."

Pietro aims to shake off all the stereotypes labeled on him when he was still a YouTube celebrity racer, and it seems to be off to a good start.

20180914215502.jpg

Russell opens up the radio communication. Pietro has an earpiece on his left ear.

Russell: "Status?"

20180914215511.jpg

Pietro: "So far so good. Oil and water temperatures are stable. This does not hold the typical Italian car reliability stereotypes."

Then Pietro challenges the GT-R Nismo.

Russell: "Pressure him until he gives up."

Pietro: "That's the plan."

Russell is impressed by Pietro's comments. His efforts to change the young man had paid off.

Russell: "Wow. I've never heard such words... and confidence from a man of his age and demeanor. He really is intent in dusting off his past. He no longer relies too much on someone. He now thinks and acts for himself."

20180914215520.jpg

Pietro's confidence grows one step further. He successfully intimidated that black GT-R and proceeds to attack on the top 2 racers.

20180914215529.jpg

Pietro: "Is that all you can offer? How... pitiful. Heh."

Exiting the high speed corner, he buries the throttle. In one swoop, he overtakes the more advanced hypercars.

20180914215537.jpg

Pietro: "This Enzo still has the moves! Of course it should have. It's a proper Ferrari!"

Russell: "That's the confidence I want to hear. But make sure you put that into the right time and place."

20180914215545.jpg

The Enzo takes the race by storm. The driver was able to defy its age, and has proven that it's the heart that matters.

20180914215553.jpg

Pietro: "Mr. Russell?"

Russell: "What is it?"

Pietro shows a smile as not only having taken the lead, but also prepared to face the music.

Pietro: "I'm ready to go back to Europe. I have a pride to restore."

Location: Italy
Time: 9 pm, two days later

In a quiet town somewhere in a remote place in Italy...

...a red Ferrari Enzo parks at the side. Its presence is already enough to liven up the rather sleepy town.

20190108202806.jpg

It parks in front of a small restaurant, and exiting the car are none other than Pietro and Russell. The young racer is hungry, and so the pair decided to stop by at a restaurant where he used to eat in his youth.

Pietro: "It's been quite a while since I last visited this quaint little restaurant."

Pietro, taking off his sunglasses and cap (in order to hide under the radar of his followers), looks at the staff. Seems though they are not familiar with his face, as the management has changed.

Russell: "Relax, not everyone in Italy are your "followers", you know?"

Pietro: "I know. It's just that I have to duck under the watchful eyes. Especially my dad. There's a right time for exposure."

The two then settle down and the waitress hands over the menu over to the pair.

Pietro then goes back to his habit of checking his smartphone. He then goes to Instagram, and checks his account. He then notices a drop on his follower count.

Pietro: "Sigh... dropped to 4.2 million today. From the 4.5 million..."

To curb his depression for a bit, he then checks the news feed. He first looks at the Story feed of the accounts he follow. He then goes to a certain user with the handle - dascosplayer.

It's a short video story. In the video is a young man similar to Pietro's age with a brown spiky hair with slightly thick eyebrows on top of his brown eyes along with some hints of facial hair.

"Hello guys, what's up? Kevin here. Oh let me just tell you a great news. I have been invited for an interview in a world-renowned racing team. I don't want to spill the beans as to what team it is, but I'm really excited. I'll update you once I'm done with that tomorrow. So hope to you see you guys again and I'll talk to you... later!"

Pietro could simple react with a giggle.

Russell: "What's funny?"

Pietro: "Just one of my "rivals" in social media. Up to this day, I can't fathom the fact that he's entering in the world of racing. He's merely a cosplayer, and seeks attention too. Now, he's serious in starting his so-called "project". I can't even..."

Russell: "Hmph. Isn't that what you also do? Seeking attention? I don't get social media influencers. Who is he?"

Pietro: "His name is Kevin Kern from Stuttgart, Germany. He's a well-known cosplayer."

He then shows the profile to Russell.

Russell: "Hmph... he looks like a celebrity."

Pietro: "His current stint is cosplaying a certain superhero. But he is a legit gymnast too, and he's awesome at that. Right now, he has.... sigh... 7 million followers."

Russell: "And yet you're quick to judge. MERELY a cosplayer? If you really want to change, then I suggest deactivating your Instagram account and make a fresh start."

Pietro: "WHAT?!"

Russell: "True change involves killing old habits. It'll be tough, but trust me... it works. Now, it's time to see who will embrace the new you. For a start, you'll have to repaint that Ferrari."

Pietro: "I imagine it in silver. I've seen Enzos in silver and they look awesome too."

Russell then looks up, and having heard the name "Kevin Kern", something suddenly struck him...

Russell: "That name rings familiar. Why? Was there something I've forgotten about? Kern, huh?"

The waitress then arrives upon being summoned by Pietro, holding a piece of paper and a pen.

Waitress: "Are you ready to order?"

************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Location: Nurburgring Nordschleife, Nurburg, Germany
Time: 12 pm, the next day

It's another tourist day at the ever infamous Nurburging Nordschleife. Supercars have, of course, entered the track in order for their owners to experience the thrills of the Green Hell.

Takuma makes an entrance. He has entered the track to kill some time since he was ordered by Hiroyuki to come along by the headquarters. The Ultraviolet Porsche 911 GT3 RS would surely feel at home.

20190108202841.jpg

Takuma: "Forty more horsepower, one hundred kilograms less. Time to push!"

He then floors the accelerator. The modifications immediately make their benefits known.

20190108202848.jpg

Takuma: "Honestly... I've always thought 911s are overrated. But I'm truly seeing why it's beloved by pretty much the majority of drivers."

Suddenly, a phone call erupts in the midst of his run. Takuma presses the button on the steering wheel to answer. It's Hiroyuki on the other line.

20190108202855.jpg

Hiroyuki: "Hello? Have you arrived?"

Takuma: "Since last night, yes. I just checked in at a hotel at the German border."

Hiroyuki: "Where are you right now?"

20190108202902.jpg

Takuma: "Killing time at the Nordschleife."

Hiroyuki: "I see. Well, better get here quick. Our applicant has arrived."

20190108202910.jpg

Takuma: "I hope you don't take this the wrong way, Hiroyuki-san, but... do we really need a social media specialist in our team?"

Hiroyuki: "After what happened to our team, we need to win back the support of our fans. Plus... he is more than just a social media celebrity."

20190108202920.jpg

Takuma: "All right then... I just don't want to make our team look like we're craving for attention."

************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Location: Dream Alliance HQ, Nurburg, Germany
Time: 1:30 pm

After having a lap at the Green Hell, Takuma stopped by first for lunch at a restaurant along the way. Then he proceeded to the headquarters.

He then notices a blue Porsche 911 GT3 (997 Mk. II) at the parking lot. He then decides to park beside it.

20190108202817.jpg

Takuma: "Huh... no one in our team owns a 997. Unless that's the applicant."

Upon getting out, Takuma takes time to go around the car in question.

20190108202824.jpg

Takuma: "Sharkwerks 4.1? And a Marvel sticker too. Comic book fan much? And judging by the license plate, this one's from Stuttgart. Rear tire camber looks like it's prepped for track work."

He then goes around, walking slowly as he observes the livery. The car sports a livery of red and blue, with a honeycomb pattern with a long red stripe at the side. The hood has a spider-web design and a large spider insignia can be seen adorning the entire top of the vehicle. The interior, on the other hand, is devoid of luxury equipment, save for the air conditioning and an auxiliary jack. A short throw shifter is present as well.

20190108202833.jpg

Takuma: "Ohhh--kay... I get it. He's a big fan, all right. But I assume the performance modifications do match the outrageous livery."

Takuma finally makes his way to the meeting room. Upon entering, he sees Hiroyuki and the applicant waiting for him.

Hiroyuki: "Oh there you are. Let's start the interview. By the way, this young man here is named Kevin Kern."

Takuma: "Kevin Kern, huh?"

Kevin stands up and bows in front of Takuma.

Kevin: "Nice to meet you... uh???"

Takuma: "Just call me Takuma. Drop the honorifics."

Kevin: "Right... Takuma. A pleasure and honor to finally see you in person."

The three then sit down. Kevin somehow looks uneasy sitting in front of the two Japanese drivers, but he then takes a gulp to shake off the tension.

Hiroyuki: "All right. I have studied your credentials, and they are all interesting. A cosplayer and a race car driver? That's a fascinating mix."

Kevin: "I do get that a lot. I took up cosplaying and gymnastics since I thought I wasn't able to secure a position in a racing team. But I have studied in a racing academy and... I'm in the same batch as Kiehl Muller. "

Takuma: "Kiehl Muller, huh?"

Kevin then shows a grin on his face upon hearing that name.

Kevin: "Just so you know...

"...I've beaten him. Thrice."

Takuma's eyes widened upon learning that revelation. There's something more on Kevin than meets the eye... definitely a lot more.

End of Page 11

AUTHOR'S NOTES:

- Don't worry. This story isn't dead. I've got so much things to do last year, that I almost forgot to write. Plus... JLPT.

- Kevin is in the SAME TIER with Takuma and Rob in terms of driving skill. Yep... same tier.

- Kevin's name is a combination of - Kevin Estre and Lars Kern - both of which are badass Porsche drivers.

- Kevin's role here will be small, but will be much bigger in the future arcs, as he has yet to reveal his prime motivation on joining the Dream Alliance. HINT: It's a serious one.

Page 12 - Form of Expression

Location: Piedmont, Italy
Time: 9 am, the next day

Heeding Russell's suggestion, Pietro decided to send the Enzo to a paint shop and left it there to be repainted. And after that, Pietro heads over to a high-end car rental company to borrow a car for their transportation.

The pair walks through a huge selection of high-end cars, ranging from luxury saloons to low-slung supercars. Pietro picks a car familiar to him - a beige colored Ferrari 458 Italia.

Russell: "Is that your choice? Okay, then. Anyhow, I'm teaching you a driving lesson once we head over to a track."

Pietro: "The track? Oh I know! Autodromo Lago Maggiore is nearby! We can go there after breakfast!"

Russell: "Very well then, it's settled."

After signing the papers and as well as obtaining the key fob, the duo leaves. Pietro takes the helm, with his mind wondering...

20190110183223.jpg

Pietro: "By the way, let me ask you. Why are you teaching me a lesson today?"

Russell: "I'm helping you to start anew, right? Part of it is mentoring you."

Pietro: "Ohhh-kay... and why did you specifically ask me to rent a supercar?"

Russell: "I'll let you know once we head over to the track. For now, let's grab some breakfast to get us started."

They stopped over at a cafe to get their much needed breakfast to start the day right. After all, one needs the energy to learn a lesson that shall be taught for the day.

After a quick grub, the pair then head their way to the Maggiore circuit. Pietro stretches the 458's performance on one point to the other.

20190110183234.jpg

Russell: "Even here, you'll learn something."

Pietro: "Huh?"

Russell: "Aren't you feeling it?"

Pietro: "What am I supposed to feel?"

20190110183240.jpg

Russell: "You don't get it? I expect it as much."

Pietro: "You love being vague, aren't you?"

Russell: "That's one way to lecture someone, trust me. Let one learn by themselves. That's how I bond with my son too."

Almost an hour later, the pair arrives at the track. Russell inspects the tires, and then he shows a smile.

20190110183246.jpg

Russell: "Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo R rubber. Clearly this rental company is being owned by a true enthusiast."

Pietro: "That's good! Hey, I'm ready."

Russell: "Let's set out."

The pair enters the track. Having owned the same car, Pietro steps on the accelerator with utmost confidence, and he toggles the Manettino switch on the steering wheel to CST Off.

Russell: "Confident much? I'm afraid that will slow you..."

(Background Music)

20190110183303.jpg

Russell: "This is where the lesson starts. First, drive it like you used to."

Pietro is more than happy to oblige. He attacks the hairpin with gusto, turning the steering wheel sharply to tuck it in line, a similar approach done to his very own 458.

20190110183310.jpg

He then buries the throttle the instant the car reaches the corner exit, but the exotic car seems to behave otherwise...

20190110183317.jpg

Pietro: "Whoa!"

Pietro manages to catch the oversteer with an opposite lock.

Russell: "You used to drive cars prepped for you, am I right? You've never driven a bog standard 458, have you?"

Pietro: "Nope. Papa gives me cars that are modified, even when I was starting out. He never wanted me to stress out on all of this stuff."

Russell: "Then I'm afraid that's one of your biggest failings as a driver."

Pietro eases up his pace upon realizing the cold hard fact drilled on to him.

20190110183324.jpg

Russell: "Cars and drivers communicate with each other. You haven't "communicated" with your car. Let the car express itself first."

Upon steering the wheel and feeling its vibrations... Pietro has a moment of realization. His eyes have widened.

Pietro: "This feels... natural."

20190110183331.jpg

Russell: "If you want to modify your car all by yourself, then let the car talk to you first. Tuning is more of a "compromise" between two parties. That's exactly what I said to Andy."

Meanwhile, they are no longer alone...

Kevin and Takuma have arrived as well. Apparently, Kevin is undergoing a "test".

Takuma: "Out of all the circuits, why here?"

Kevin: "I haven't driven on this track. I think this is perfect for our "test", am I right?"

20190110183252.jpg

The two then decided to get in the track too. Takuma notices the 458 passing by the main straight.

Takuma: "We've got company."

Kevin: "I see. Well, I'll chase it."

Kevin floors the accelerator. He revels at the loud, high-pitch roar of the legendary Mezger flat six.

20190110183337.jpg

Takuma: "I've never heard of a flat six like this. But surely there's more to this engine than just sound."

Russell then notices a speck of the chasing car at the side mirror.

Russell: "We're no longer alone."

Pietro: "Oh... well, what should I do?"

20190110183345.jpg

Russell: "Just focus ahead. You're here only to learn."

Back in the GT3, Takuma makes observations on Kevin's movements - steering, gear shifting, and footwork.

Takuma: "Seems promising so far. He wrestles the car as if it's his routine. Car reviewers noted the 997 GT3 as a raw machine."

20190110183353.jpg

Kevin: "Gotta love the Sharkwerks 4.1 EVOMS kit! Five hundred forty all natural horsepower!"

Takuma: "No wonder this pulls better than my 991 GT3 RS despite the similarity in horsepower. He had the engine stroked to 4.1 liters?"

Kevin: "I wonder what's that car ahead? Seems fast too."

Kevin steps on the brakes rather late, reaping the benefits of having the engine placed far back.

20190110183404.jpg

Takuma: "He definitely knows how to handle a 911. Gotta admit, I may have to take notes from him on how to drive one."

Back in the 458, Pietro also catches a glimpse of the chaser.

20190110183415.jpg

Pietro: "Ugh. It's keeping up!"

Russell: "This isn't a race. Don't let pride take you over."

The GT3 hits the apex with ease, something that piqued Takuma.

Takuma: "All car reviewers criticised the 997 GT3 as having understeer on turn in. From what I'm seeing, Kevin makes sure to eliminate that through sheer skill alone!"

20190110183421.jpg

The Porsche inches closer to the Ferrari as the two cars reach the main straightaway.

Takuma: "Now I'll see how he overtakes."

Kevin finally recognizes the car ahead.

Kevin: "Oh! A 458! That car's reaaaaaally gorgeous!"

20190110183430.jpg

(Background Music)

Kevin once again takes advantage of Porsche's legendary braking ability as he sets his eyes on the 458 on the first corner.

20190110183437.jpg

The German sports car is just a moments away of overtaking the Italian exotic.

Kevin: "I'm right behind you, horsey!"

20190110183446.jpg

Pietro now feels uneasy, showing a smirk on his face and a drop of sweat flowing from the temple of his head.

20190110183453.jpg

Pietro: "Leave me alone!"

20190110183501.jpg

As the two cars finally line up side by side, both drivers take a brief look on each other. Then they both display a moment of shock.

Kevin: "It can't be! He's... back?!"

Pietro: "Kevin Kern?! What is he doing here?!"

The GT3 then takes the lead. Russell then once again thinks deeply.

Russell: "Why do I have the feeling I've met this man before?"

But he quickly brushed that off the moment he sees the Sharkwerks decal on GT3's the engine cover.

Russell: "Heh. You're in big trouble, boy."

20190110183507.jpg

Pietro: "Eh?"

Russell: "Sharkwerks... a California-based Porsche tuner. They've shot to popularity thanks to that 4.1 stroker kit. They make crazy fast Porsches."

Meanwhile, in the GT3, Takuma asks a question regarding on who they just encountered.

20190110183520.jpg

Takuma: "You know that 458 driver?"

Kevin: "Wow... I'm surprised you don't know him. His name is Pietro Guidicelli, a popular name in Instagram. He considers himself as my rival, but we did several collabs before. Lately, everyone was wondering where he went. He just disappeared into thin air.

Now that he's back... time to have some fun!"

Kevin pushes his foot down hard on the accelerator, signifying his intentions of battle.

End of Page 12

So this is Kevin:

Kevin Kern.png

And as for duel volunteers, I'm still looking for them. I would appreciate it more if you belong in the Southeast Asia region (GMT+8) so that it will be easy for both of us to schedule our lobby meets. But it's also okay if you are from a different region.

Page 13: Face-to-Face

The reunion between two social media rivals continues. However, there's no time for nostalgia at the moment. Each has their own motivations to win.

20190111153703.jpg

Pietro: "Kevin now takes racing for real, huh?"

Russell: "People change in ways you don't expect. Like you..."

The heavily modified Porsche then pulls away at the final corner's exit.

20190111153713.jpg

Pietro: "Do 911s drive like that? I thought they oversteer a lot. Even back when I was racing Kiehl Muller, I was wondering the same."

Russell gives a different answer.

Russell: "Even a family car can be a precision tool if you get to know it properly, in which what you should be doing right now."

20190111153720.jpg

Pietro: "Still... I can't stand that ghastly livery! Cars are not cosplay playthings!"

Pietro uses that distaste to fuel his will to keep up. He buries the throttle in mid-corner.

20190111153726.jpg

But with the 458 being in its manufacturer specifications, it simply oversteers, widening the gap even further.

Pietro: "That didn't work."

Russell: "Stop being stubborn and focus on the car. Leave that man alone, if I were you."

20190111153732.jpg

Pietro's edginess still gets the better of him. Ignoring the fact that it's a rental car, he pushes it, to the point that it almost goes off course.

20190111153739.jpg

All his efforts are in vain, as his rival gets further away. The modified engine makes its voice heard on the short straight.

Kevin: "So... where's your pride now, amico mio? Don't tell me you also ditched your driving!"

Takuma, on the other hand, isn't too fond of Kevin's noise.

Takuma: "Oh my god... he's as talkative as Takanori. Good thing he'll be shipped over to Dream Alliance Japan. Those two would be like talk show hosts."

20190111153746.jpg

As his last resort, Pietro brakes late, putting trust on the 458's carbon ceramic brakes.

Pietro: "Come on, come on!"

20190111153752.jpg

However... that also backfired. The 458 veered off the sand.

20190111153759.jpg

Russell: "And here goes the rental car. You'll be cleaning that."

Kevin obviously notices the absence of his rival on the rear view mirror.

20190111153805.jpg

Kevin: "Eh? Where is he? Did something happen?"

Takuma: "Leave him be. We're done with the assessment. Great job so far.".

After the dust has settled, Kevin and Takuma exit the track and stop by at the track's parking lot for a brief assessment.

While the pair is having a conversation, the 458 arrives, and Pietro stops the car the moment he sees them.

He shuts off the engine, and then proceeds to interrupt the conversation.

20190111153814.jpg

Pietro: "Kevin Kern? What a surprise!"

Kevin: "Ciao! Pietro's back! So... how's life after running away from the spotlight?"

Pietro: "I'm changing my ways, that's what. How about you? How did you turn from cosplayer to... a racer? Do you even take this thing seriously, or is it another one of those rackets?"

Kevin: "I have a much more serious motivation behind what I'm doing. What it is is none of your business."

Pietro: "Master of suspense as usual. When will I expect it? On your next livestream?"

Kevin's expression suddenly turns into a polar opposite of his usual self - a colder, serious, and with a hint of depression.

Kevin: "It's a lot bigger than you think. Don't you ever dare laugh this off."

Even Takuma goes suddenly into shock.

Takuma: "What's going on? I feel tension already... That is not typical of him."

However, Kevin immediately returns to his usual, optimistic self.

Kevin: "Well then, it was nice seeing you again! Good luck on the Nurburgring VLN. Tschau! Let's go, Takuma-san."

The duo from Dream Alliance finally departs. Russell takes more fascination towards that newbie.

Russell: "That brief moment he showed his true colors... clearly there's something I've forgotten. I can't put my finger on it.

But... Takuma is also there. I might have been compromised. Gotta do something."

************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Location: An apartment in Italy
Time: 6 am, the next day.

Yesterday was not an ordinary day for sure. A reunion took place, blows were traded.

Pietro wakes up, but upon looking around, he immediately notices that Russell has left.

Pietro: "Huh? Where's Russell?"

The bathroom door is open, and the lights were off. Even the bed he laid on was properly made. The sheet has no wrinkles nor folds. Pietro fixes his hair, and then opens up the curtains.

Pietro: "Where did that old man go? He set off without telling me."

Thinking Russell may have set off for breakfast, Pietro accesses Instagram. He immediately sees a new video post by Kevin. Out of curiosity brought about their meeting yesterday, he clicks the video.

"Hello guys, dascosplayer here. I am so excited right now tell you guys...

...I MADE IT! Yes, I finally entered the Dream Alliance racing team! I never thought I'd see this day. I'll be going to Japan to undergo training and take part in races as well. I'm so excited to meet Takanori-san and the other legends there. This is a HUGE step forward. Expect me to share you some track day action! And about my Porsche 356 resto-mod... hmmmm...

...I'll update you on that as well. It may have come to a temporary halt, but I'll make sure to finish it and unveil for all of you to see!
Oh man... I'm so excited. Japan is a dream come true for me, not only as a cosplayer, but also as a racer. I've been dreaming of going there since I started wearing anime costumes. I wonder what will I do in Akihabara... hmmmm... let me know any suggestions, guys.

Anyhow, it's such a great day for me and I think I won't be able to sleep with all this excitement. I'll catch you guys later!
Peace out!"

The video ends, and Pietro goes back to looking for his companion. He then notices a piece of folded paper on the desk.

Upon picking it up and unfolding, it turns out to be a letter written by Russell.

"Dear Pietro,

As you read this, I've already left. It may be all so sudden, but I have to leave you or else you'll be involved in my dilemma.
Consider this as another failing on my part. Forgive me for abandoning you. But rest assured, I wish you good luck in your new path.

And as a father, I think you should go back home and talk to your dad. Explain everything to him. Fathers can be rough at times, but we all want what's best for our children. Every father has a soft spot. Tell him how you truly feel. He misses you. How I wish I have the same interaction with Andy as we had. I may have learned something from you too, since you are a son.

Someday, you will be a far greater man than you are right now. And if ever you cross paths with Andy, don't tell him our adventures. Just keep quiet and I'll be the one to take care of the surprise. There's a perfect time for that.

By the way, I extended your car's rental period. Use the time well to hone your skills. I believe you can do it.

Arrivederci, Pietro. We will meet again...

- Russell."

Pietro looks away. His initial reaction is a face of loneliness, having his mentor gone in an instant. But in an instant, he shows conviction.

And with that, he starts taking a shower and changes clothes. After packing and then paying the final rent, he leaves.

He shall now go back home to Modena, ready to face his father.

Pietro: "Papa... I'm going back. You will now see a completely different man."

20190117163020.jpg

20190117163032.jpg

Pietro: "All I want you to know is that I've completely come out of my shell. The racing world is truly a fascinating place. I've had a lot to learn. This is more than just having money, the best crew and fast cars. It has a much bigger scope than I had expected.

And Mr. Russell.... thank you. Thank you very much. Even though our time was short, I learned so much. You are one man I'll truly tip my hat off to! I will not fail you!"

The Italian exotic braves through the mountain pass, signifying Pietro's newly found motivation.

Location: Guidicelli Mansion, Modena, italy
Time: 9 am

Spending hours traversing through the winding roads, Pietro muses his thoughts on whether or not he should meet his father.

But he's already nearby... just 45 minutes left according to the GPS.

He had made the decision to face his father, having to heed and respect Russell's pieces of advice.

Pietro: "Gotta heed his words. Now's the time to face the music. No use hiding anymore."

He stops by first at a drive thru coffee shop. After ordering a hot cup of Caramel Macchiato, he sets off and continues driving while helping himself with caffeine.

Half an hour later... finally.

He arrives at the mansion. Not much has changed since his departure. Pietro exits the car so as the guards to recognize him and open the gate. After the check, he goes back in and proceeds to the large foyer.

20190119181009.jpg

Having been known of Pietro's arrival, Giorgio hurries down through the staircase. Upon exiting, he sees his son getting out of the car and putting the bag down.

The patriarch hugs his long-missing son. But the latter's only reaction is a smile.

Giorgio: "You're back! I'm so worried! Where have you been?"

Pietro answers in a rather neutral tone.

Pietro: "A lot of things happened. I decided to start anew."

Giorgio: "I was trying to call, text... and even sought help from the Carabinieri!"

Pietro: "I wanted to be a much better racer. And for me to do that... I have to get out of the box and explore. Start a clean slate, learn new things."

Giorgio: "But you have a dedicated team here! Why go out of your way?"

Pietro: "Because, to be honest, instead of moving up... I felt confined. I wasn't seeing any real progress. I've been spoon-fed. I've realized that the world of racing is much larger than WE thought."

Giorgio: "But I've already prepped your car for the upcoming Nurburgring VLN! I don't want it to go to waste. Come, I'll show you."

Giorgio orders Pietro's butler to take the bag up to his room, while the father and son pair head over the garage.

He then presents Pietro the Ferrari 458 GT3 they bought last year, adorning a red camouflage theme and black rims. The livery was penned by Pietro himself, but seeing the car now strikes doubt to the young racer.

Pietro: "It looks great as usual, and I thank you for preparing it. But... there's something I must do. I cannot drive this one just yet."

Giorgio: "What are you going to do?"

Pietro: "Drive more. Simple as that. I will perfect my skills with that rental 458. No tune ups, no support whatsoever. My skills will be my true asset this time."

Pietro turns back and walks away. He goes back to the main foyer and straps back in to the rental car. Giorgio managed to follow suit holds on the car's door before closing it.

Giorgio: "Listen, I know I've been controlling you too much, but please know that I only do this because I want all the best for you."

Pietro: "Glad to hear that, papa. But I'm a grown man already. I'm more than capable enough to make my own decisions."

Giorgio breathes out a sigh, having came up with a realization that his son has gotten more independent, and is truly eager to change himself. There's so much one can do to guide someone. A bird has to fly on its own after all.

Giorgio: "Sigh... all right. Just promise me you come back, okay?"

Pietro: "I will. And I love you, papa."

Pietro closes the door shut, and starts up the 458's engine. The beige supercar exits the mansion with the bright ray of sun covering it.

Location: Alessandro's garage

Meanwhile, Vincenzo and Alessandro return from their trip to Brazil just yesterday. Having been satisfied with the run, the latter decides to show the other 4C on this day.

Alessandro: "That trip was totally worth it. Now, time for me to show you my other car."

20190119181027.jpg

The pair then go to the other side of the garage, passing through various equipment almost blocking their path, they are greeted with another 4C but modified to meet Group 3 specifications.

20190119181033.jpg

Vincenzo: "I'm seeing double here. Except of course for those canards and that large wing."

Alessandro: "I'm in a bit in a dilemma though. It's not yet complete, therefore I'm afraid it's not ready for the Nurburgring VLN. But the remaining parts will arrive right after that, just in time for the Italian GT."

Vincenzo: "Is that so? Hmmmm... that could be tough. That VLN race would be my ticket back to glory. I need to convince everyone that I'm clean."

Alessandro: "I have my sources covered. Don't worry. For now, let's go out. Anywhere you want to go?"

Vincenzo: "I intend on blowing off steam in Monza right after this. Is that fine for you?"

Alessandro: "I don't mind. Let's go, then. But let's eat first, shall we?"

************************************************************************************************************************************************************

After helping themselves with brunch, Vincenzo and Alessandro make their way to Monza. The 4C makes mincemeat of the mountain roads, thanks to its improved rigidity and suspension tweaks.

20190119181040.jpg

Alessandro: "I will contact some former racers and see if they can help you out."

Vincenzo: "Sounds like a good plan."

At around 2 pm, the duo arrived at the track. And apparently they are not alone...

Alessandro immediately recognizes Pietro.

20190119181046.jpg

Alessandro: "Well well well... look who came out of hiding."

Vincenzo: "HA! What a pleasant surprise."

Vincenzo stops and immediately goes out of the car to greet Pietro once more.

Vincenzo: "Look who deactivated his Instagram account!"

Pietro returns to his condescending self, albeit slightly.

Pietro: "Good to see you again. And just to let you know, I made a new one. I want to throw away my foolishness."

Vincenzo: "I'm pretty sure you're not living under a rock while you're gone. Nurburgring VLN is coming fast. You're in?"

Pietro answers now with a confident tone, clenching his fist.

Pietro: "I am. But first, I gotta practice."

Vincenzo takes a brief look at the rental supercar.

Vincenzo: "With that? Huh? And I thought you prefer Ferraris to be red."

Pietro: "It's a rental car. All stock. And check it out... no crew to help me set it up. I'm riding on a rodeo, basically."

Upon hearing that revelation not typical of someone like Pietro, Vincenzo puts up a grin.

Vincenzo: "Say, I'm itching for a run. Show me what you can truly do with a car not tinkered in any way unlike those Ferraris rigged for car review magazines. Beat me...

...and I'll join you in the VLN. What do you say?"

Pietro: "Huh? Are you serious? You want to join me? My dad's blood is still boiling on you."

Vincenzo: "I don't give a damn. You need my expertise for something as treacherous as the Nurburgring. You want change, am I right?"

Pietro briefly looks down, but comes up with an immediate reaction. He is aware of Vincenzo's skill through his father's stories, and up to this day, still holds respect towards him.

Pietro: "All right. Let's do this."

Vincenzo: "We'll start after the first chicane once we get out of this pit lane. Three laps are okay for you?"

Pietro: "It's fine. Let's go."

The two then set off slowly as planned. Upon traversing through the first chicane...

Vincenzo: "You've gotten me curious now. You're not as condescending as you were before. The wind suddenly blew to a different direction, huh?"

The battle begins as soon as the two cars exit the chicane. The 4C's turbocharged engine manages the car to sprint quickly on exit.

20190119181103.jpg

Pietro is mesmerized by the 4C's pace matching that of the 458's.

Pietro: "Can a 4C be THAT fast? Unreal! Alfa Romeo is on a roll lately."

20190119181110.jpg

The 458 then slingshots from the draft, but the two cars have to brake for approaching second chicane.

20190119181116.jpg

Vincenzo quickly reacts on Pietro's passing attempt, steering the 4C and joining its opponent's line.

20190119181122.jpg

Vincenzo: "Not bad, but this is just the beginning, rich boy! Show me you're more than just fame!"

The bout between proud Italian racers has begun.

(Background Music)

20190127192412.jpg

Vincenzo: "Come at me, Insta-famous. Social media brats are what I love to pound to the ground!"

As if having heard the taunt, Pietro floors the accelerator at the back straight. The 458 uses all of its available power to gain on the heavily-modified 4C.

20190127192419.jpg

Pietro: "That 4C is unbelievably fast, but thankfully the 458 isn't falling behind either."

The cars traverse through the Variante Ascari corners exuding with grace in their racing lines. Pietro is slowly coming to grips with the rental car.

20190127192426.jpg

Pietro: "I think I'm starting get in groove with this car. I never thought a 458 would behave like this. It feels... natural."

One of the 458's advantages makes itself clear - a more responsive engine with a better top end.

Pietro: "Top speed is my weapon here. But I'm sure I can use another one. I have to find out."

20190127192433.jpg

Clearing the last corner, the 4C blasts away with turbocharged grunt, and then the second lap starts.

20190127192440.jpg

Vincenzo: "What's wrong? I don't really get this generation. People like you get fame while others who legit work hard are get thrown under the bus. No wonder there's so many idiots in this world. You could have used the platform to make yourself a much better role model."

But then his stance changes the moment he sees the 458 hanging right by.

Vincenzo: "But I do guess you want to change after all. I'm not yet shutting you down. I won't be quick to judge until we finish this."

20190127192447.jpg

One would see an opportunity to overtake, but Pietro backs off.

Pietro: "No... I won't make another hasty mistake. Gotta find out that 4C's weakness."

20190127192453.jpg

As if on cue, Pietro notices the 4C's wiggling tail on corner exit. The young racer puts up a smirk.

Pietro: "Heh. Heavens gave me the answer I'm looking for."

20190127192500.jpg

Pietro: "Well... there's no covering the fact that IT'S STILL A 4C! Still a skittish car no matter how much one modifies it."

20190127192513.jpg

Pietro: "And here you are blabbering about me full of money in my head. I'm not that guy anymore!"

Seeing it as a golden opportunity and to finally break the mold, Pietro floors it at the Variante Ascari chicane.

Pietro: "Sorry, but I think YOU are the showoff!"

20190127192521.jpg

20190127192528.jpg

At the corner exit, the 458 surprises Vincenzo.

Vincenzo: "WHAT?! Never expected him to pass on the outside!"

20190127192537.jpg

Pietro smirks again.

Pietro: "Oh... aren't you supposed to be a seasoned racer? What's wrong now? I think it's you who should get off your high horse!"

20190128164026.jpg

The tables have turned. The tide has changed its direction. For Vincenzo, the overtake starts a realization for him.

Vincenzo: "Whoa... this kid went beast mode or something. Gotta stop playing around."

(Background Music)

20190128164034.jpg

The final lap begins. And so does Pietro's opportunity to prove himself.

Pietro: "Who's laughing now? I hate it when people misjudge me."

20190128164040.jpg

On the first chicane, the 458's naturally-aspirated engine shows no problem in unleashing its full power. The 4C, on the other hand...

20190128164047.jpg

Vincenzo: "This car's peaky nature starts to show. Or it could have been a turbocharger problem. Either way, this isn't the right time to bog down!"

20190128164054.jpg

The gap increases every second Pietro displays his newly developed driving skill.

Vincenzo observes the 458's more precise racing line.

20190128164100.jpg

Vincenzo: "His lines are getting better. I can't believe this is a doing of a social media brat!"

20190128164107.jpg

Pietro: "Every car reviewer would say the 458 is one of the most balanced cars ever made! And still the most exciting!"

Chances of a comeback are slim for Vincenzo. And as they hit the final corner...

20190128164114.jpg

...the 4C's quirks decided to teach Vincenzo a lesson as well.

20190128164120.jpg

Vincenzo: "Aargh!"

20190128164126.jpg

Vincenzo: "I've done it. Oh well, no use berating the kid. He's gotten better, I admit."

Pietro takes the win, with a condescending quote to match.

20190128164133.jpg

Pietro: "Eh? What happened? Did his pride cost him the race? Pfft."

The victor has been decided. Pietro outdid himself in the race, that even the veteran Alessandro was impressed.

The two cars stopped by at the pit lane. Vincenzo takes off his helmet and fixes his hair.

20190128164140.jpg

Vincenzo: "You got talent, kid. Color me impressed. I gotta admit, I was the one who needs to get off the high horse."

Pietro: "So, you're joining me for the Nurburgring VLN?"

Vincenzo: "A deal's a deal. So yeah. Besides, I wish to talk to your father too."

Pietro: "I think it's a good idea. You know, you need to bury the hatchet."

Vincenzo: "That, and something that he needs to know too."

Pietro: "What is it?"

Vincenzo: "That's between him and me, boy."

Vincenzo approaches Pietro and reaches out his hand. At first, Pietro gets bewildered by the gesture, but he immediately goes to a handshake.

Vincenzo: "It's a pleasure racing you. Call this a truce. But that doesn't mean I like you... yet. We'll have a second bout."

Pietro smiles upon hearing the statement.

Pietro: "Nice to meet you too. And don't worry, I'm ready for that."

Today, Pietro has done a significant step in his quest for change. There's still a long road ahead of him. Will he be ready to tackle it?
