The GTP Cool Wall started out as a fun little rip on the same concept from Top Gear, where people voted for cars based on how cool they thought they were. In the years since, it's expanded far past just voting, and into a unique archive of automotive discussion, where a thread can be found for almost any car you could want to read about. And if there isn't a thread for it already out of our 1400+, nominate it yourself! Participation is always welcome!

Rules:

• It is appreciated that you post the car's information, but not necessary.
• Only two cars per person until your car has been polled. Once the car is given a polling thread, then you are free to make another suggestion.
• Do not nominate any of the exact same vehicles that have already been polled. I am not responsible for accidental re-polling of cars. It is the nominator's job to make sure that their car has not been polled yet.
• Cars similar to ones already polled must have a significant difference that makes them a separate entity. If your nomination is questioned, I will tag you in a post asking you to defend your nomination, you will have 24 hours from that tag to provide a good enough defence, or you will be knocked from the queue.
• Race cars are now allowed.
• As of May 28th 2016, concept cars, prototypes and pre-production models will not be allowed regardless of functionality (post).
• Modified production models from official performance divisions such as NISMO are allowed. Either as a standalone nomination or part of a nomination that covers the car on which it's based.
• One-off modified/custom models are not allowed. If the car is questionable, I will ask for proof of production.
• Coachbuilds are allowed. These are being defined as a car that uses the unmodified production underpinnings, but has a custom built body.
• A nomination must have different specs, or be different enough visually from a previously polled/nominated car in order to be a valid nomination.
• Only nominations made in this thread will be added to the list, please do not write on my GTP profile, PM me or e-mail suggestions. Doing so will earn you a 1 month ban from nominating cars for the cool wall.
• Get your nomination right the first time.
• If your nomination is correct, it will appear in the nomination queue below shortly after the nomination is made.
• If your nomination is incorrect, I will list off what info you need to correct your post.
• Posts that need fixing will lose their spot in the queue if another nomination is posted between the incorrect nomination and the final correction.

How it Works:

• You nominate a car and it goes into the queue, assuming you followed the rules.

What's so special about these rather crap figures when compared to the legends before it?

~ The car is cheap to purchase from just about any junkyard, and even on in perfect shape will run about $2,500.
~ The car is incredibly small, compact and light, more so in every dimension except width (only larger by 1 inch) than the famed Fox Body after it.
~ Managed 24-31mpg (standard and Stallion models), amazing by 1970s standards
~ Makes a cheap and powerful street machine, great for newcomers to the sport
~ Engine is extremely reliable, proven after 40 years of installation in production vehicles, many of which are still on the road with high miles
~ Engine can be woken up to be a real performer with the slightest of mods. Ex. Complete exhaust system, intake and carb will yield 80+ horsepower. More expensive mods such as heads and cam will guarantee 150+ horsepower increase while staying on pump gas

Why is this special and cool: A few different things. First would be the 20B-REW engine, a triple-rotor rotary engine. Largest displacement ever offered on a production rotary-engine car. Made over 300 horsepower and around 300 lb-ft of torque.

Another cool point is that it got the dual sequential turbocharger setup in both engines offered before the FD RX-7 did. It also had many technological advancements as well, such as being the first production car in the world to get a GPS option.

Cons: Not many in my eyes, but including;
~Heavy fuel consumption when being pushed;
~Price; [The JC Cosmo was expensive even by today's standards, as Mazda still has not matched the sales price of this car some 22 years later for anything else in its range.]

Fun fact: Top Gear's claim that the Trabant was made of cotton is partially true. Trivia: The Martini Racing #22 Porsche 917 of Gijs van Lennep and Dr. Helmut Marko broke the overall distance record for Les 24 Heures du Mans with their overall victory at the 1971 event. Travelling 5,335.313 km over 397 laps. This record, mainly due to modifications to the circuit, would not be broken until 2010 when the Joest Racing #9 Audi R15 TDI+ of Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Mike Rockenfeller ran a distance of 5,410.7 km over the course of 397 laps.

Also, in qualifying for the 1971 24 Heures du Mans, the Gulf-sponsored polesitting #18 car of J.W Automotive Engineering set what remains as the fastest lap of the Circuit de la Sarthe ever recorded, a 3:13.900! Admittedly the reason this lap time has not yet been broken is again, due to the modification and installation of chicanes at the circuit, primarily in 1972 and 1990, but the feat still remains impressive.
