Red Bull Racing and F1 in GT5?

So RBR are having a big involvement does that mean every time you go on track something breaks?
:lol::lol:

In the trailer, I thought I saw Adrian Newey skteching whilst taking to Kaz, then it goes on to show manufacturing. It would be interesting if he helped design a new Formula Polyphony and they made a full size model/concept to promote the game.

That would be awesome, and very possible.

btw, I just had a thought. Maybe Adrian Newey wasn't telling them about a Red Bull F1 car, but a McLaren one (he used to work there, for those who don't follow F1) as well as, or instead of a Red Bull one. One of the late 1990s McLaren F1 cars would be a great addition.

Don't forget the championship-dominating Williams cars and the Leyton-House March cars! đź‘Ť Certainly Adrian Newey is the most interesting person I've seen involved with GT, so far we've only had racing drivers or journalist/drivers. But a highly rated F1 designer like him is very intriguing, racing drivers would obviously be giving input on how realsitic the cars are to do drive...but what is Newey's input? Perhaps like said above its to design a new Formula Gran Turismo car like in GT3 and 4. Or perhaps he is explaining the intricacies of his car designs for March, Williams, McLaren and/or Red Bull? Newey is well known for having an eye for detail and he is one of the few remaining F1 designers who prefers to use the drawing board rather than rely on computer aided design methods.
Certainly I'm very excited about what could possibly feature though like I said earlier, it may all be just for GTTV.

I really hope that the Red Bull F1 is in and the rally car that Kimi will drive but old F1 cars are pretty boring, id rather have the cars after 2000 which have tons of grip.

What are you talking about? Old F1 cars are far more interesting than the ones from today. Go watch the 1993 season and you'll see the most advanced F1 cars of all time.

I think with the obvious cooperation between PD and Red Bull, we could see a whole bunch of Red Bull sponsered Race Cars appear in GT5.

We have already seen the NASCAR-Toyota and the WRC-Citroen, more could follow, with the F1-car (since they took over Jaguar F1) a possibility. (Even if it won't say "F1" anywhere...)

By the way, the photo location seen in the E3 trailer is NOT the Red Bull technology centre, but Hangar-7, a sort of museum and event location in Salzburg, Austria. The Red Bull F1-Team is located in Milton Keynes, England.

Only if Polyphony offer original liveries, something they haven't done since GT2 (under the Racing Modifiations upgrade). If a car has a Red Bull livery, it's likely going to be because it has that livery in real life.

has anyone though what if they put in the 2011 cars, not to detialed with the specs only alter them slightly from the 2010 cars and give them next years livery

Something is fishy with Newey being featured so prominently, maybe the track editor wasn't a track editor but some kind of car editor, maybe you will be able to "design" your own car, after a fashion.

Just seems a bit strange to have a man who is widely regarde as one of the greatest designers of cars, not just F1 cars, although that's his area of expertise, featured so specifically in a game trailer, or then again, I might be completely wrong.

On the other hand, he does specialise in aerodynamics, which doesn't really make sense either, guess we'll have to wait and see.

Maybe someone could ask him or Vettel at the next Gran Prix ? :)

There's no reason why an '09 RedBull RB5 would not be able to appear in GT5 provided there is no use of the words Formula 1, F1 and so on. It's a 'RedBull' liscenced product rather than an 'F1' liscenced product.
I cant see why they would put that Vettel and Adrian Newey teaser at the end of such an important trailer if they were just doing voice-overs and providing a little bit of tech input.

I don't think Bernie Ecclestone would be happy if a second developer acquired the entire grid of cars without actually mentioning F1. It's likely that the Codemasters contract guarantees exclusivity.

Codies have the 2009 licence - they released F1 2009 on the Wii.

Bernie owns the rights for the cars, for the last 2 seasons. To get a 2009 car or a 2010 car, PD would have to get a license deal with Bernie Ecclestone. 2008 cars and earlier are fine though. It's quite complicated, but it's something to do with the protection of different teams' development. The ban on testing also stretches back to all the cars that Bernie currently holds the rights to. Michael Schumacher had to run testing in the 2007 car when he was rumoured to replace Felippe Massa after his crash last year (Though he didn't return back then because of his own injury).

And getting a deal with Bernie is dependant upon the contract agreement they have with Codemasters.

We can always hope :)

This also entered my brain after I digested that trailer, could be he's "just" a voice-actor explaining set-up and tuning/customization, etc. like perhaps Vettel and other drivers could explain driving techniques.

Or his prominance in that trailer alongside the autoclave and Red Bull's technical centre implies something even more astounding.
Could be a customization aspect whereby you could design certain parts yourself and being advised by Newey on the aerodynamic implications those parts have on the existing car ( would certainly be innovative and mind-blowing in itself, apart from being far more classy than those arcade boy-racer games ).

As for creating and designing cars from scratch, a car-editor, as much as I'd love such a feature it may however be too far-fetched at this stage.
But it sure is mysterious as to why Adrian Newey was present in the way he did.:)

What would be the point of putting something that will never exist into GT5?

The F1 cars for the 2011 season will be presented in January/February 2011, and NOONE will see anything before, so that the other teams will not see what has been changed. This is especially true for next year as the aerodynamics will change again. (multiple diffusor systems will be prohibited)

Perhaps it's something to do with the wind tunnel? Maybe you put a wing on your car and then run it in the wind tunnel to see what affect it has on drag? That could be a reason for Newey's presence. Having said that, he is a pretty decent race driver himself you know. He might have just wanted to have a go on the game!

Um, because those cars don't exist yet. Polyphony can't add something that hasn't been created yet. And if they somehow did ad those cars, what would there be to stop teams using the game - assuming it's realistic enough - to figure out how good the 2011 cars are?

It's been noted, however, that Adrian Newey appears to be sketching something, and Vettel's voice-over mentions "easily being able to top four hundred kilometres an hour". I'm pretty sure there is no such car that could achieve that, so it's been speculated that Polyphony commissioned Newey to either create the next generation of Formula GT cars, or to make the "ultimate" racing car. It makes more sense than having Nike design one in GT4 ...

On the earlier discussion of including old F1 cars, it would be cool if we could have the old tracks too. It would be hard as hell, but a lot of fun.

Just give me Montjuic Park, and I'll be happy. I'd gladly give up some of the other old circuits if it meant I could have Montjuic.

Sorry to be a downer... but F1 cars don't reach 400km/h. It's 7km/h off a Bugati Veyron... which is around 250mph.

F1 cars have aero that gives it a drag coefficient of 1.. it's so high that without throttle, the cars brakes with the same force that a road car does when you slam the brakes on.

It's for this reason that despite there 800bhp engines they can't get to those speeds. Added to that the tracks don't have room for them tog et up so there ratios (gearbox) are done so that they can accelerate quickly out of corners, not for top speed.

As much as I'd honestly love F1 cars, more than NASCAR, drifting and damage combined, Vettel saying 0-400km/h is clearly note refering to any F1 car I've ever seen race in a GP*.

Legals facts..... because everyone seems to have an opinion so...
1) Bernie Eccelstone holds the rights through FOM (f 1 management) to this years and last year cars. Next year he holds the rights to next years and this years.
2) Codeies have been given the rights to prduce
- the 2009 cars for Wii
- The 2010 cars for the 360/ps3 and PC

How did I deduce that? Well, Bernie E is smart with moneyand a general tightarse (he sees the biggest crowd at an event and says.. good.. next year i want doble the money from you to run it.. why because I can)... 2ndly Codeies are a business and want money.

If Codemasters were given the rights to 2009 for all consoles and PC then they would play with the code and make it work so as to sell games. They wouldn't buy the (thanks to bernie e) expensive rights to use the cars in more ways than they need. If Bernie E sees that Gt are also after them then he will charge more to get more money...

So.... It's unlikely to be 2010 cars as Codemasters hold the rights to produce them in a game, and I doubt they will be in two games...

BUT.... THe 2009 cars haven't touched the 360, ps3 or pc at all and hhaven't been licensed to anyone for use in games for those consoles.

Hence, we may see tHe 2009 cars. 2008 cars could also be there and cars before as they are owned by the companies... including those Kaz is close too (Honda, Toyota) etc...

2011 cars is a rubbish idea. They haven't done anything about them, they don't even know how big the tyres will be. Added to that, Bernie E holds the rights from brith till 2 years old... NOT start of season till 2 years old..

*I said race in a GP, yes I know that an F1 car was taken to 400km/h or something like that when they minimzed aero.. but they don't run that setup or anything near it even on lower downforce tracks...

As for a PD/RedBull/Newey F1 concept car, I just saw this in the EuroGamer E3 interview:

"If that bothers you, a show reel of standard cars - Dodge muscle numbers, streamlined F1 concepts, and something that looks to my untrained eye like a Mini Clubman"

Codies have the 2009 licence - they released F1 2009 on the Wii.

actually, I thought so as well, but they can't - because iRacing is about to include the 2009 Williams FW31.

That Williams deal also probably reduces the chance of them being in GT5, because I doubt they would go in both.

I know what you tried to say, Adrian Newey creating his fantasy racecar designs free from all FIA restrictions purely for GT5 ( which would be very nice for us, but probably also for himself ).
Although I suspect he ( the journalist that is ) either saw some Japanese concept cars he didn't previously encounter or even mistook the Auto-Union for a futuristic streamlined ( which is partly correct ) F1 car.
And it wouldn't even surprise me if those Dodge cars were really Fords and his "untrained eye" ( his own judgement ) mistook a Nissan Micra for a Mini Clubman.;)

Oh, come on. At least give the guy some credit ...

Looking back it does sound a bit harsh, apology for that, although maybe it had more to do with this whole interior view confusion which keeps bugging me than anything he actually wrote.
Again sorry, although I've seen enough gaming related journalism getting it painfully wrong when writing about the racing genre on several occassions so I might become too sceptical and annoyed and it perhaps clouded my judgement.

I think the interiors thing is quite clear. If people are getting confused about it, it's because of the debates here.

True enough, but it's my experience that these magazines generally send fans of a genre to report on new releases from within that genre. There's no point in having someone report on GT5 if they hate racing games.

ahhh.... I was just trying to explain this....

As with many games with licensed content, whether that be cars, characters, names and icons etc...

They are generally licensed for use on a specific console to one maker and then to someone else for other consoles.
Rarely you see two PS games with the same licensed content...

The 2010 F1 cars wont be in GT5 probably because they are already appearing in another PS3 (and 360 and PC) game, F1 2010.
The 2009 F1 cars wont be appearing in another Wii game due to f1 2009, and the Williams atleast, ad probably all the 2009 f1 cars wont be appearing in another PC game because of iRacing.

The 2009 cars are yet to appear in any PS3 game in any shape or form. And that is why they might.

Yeah I don't know about you guys but, the inclusion of F1 cars is one of my most anticipated aspects of GT5. It was an absolute joy to essentially drive classic F1's in GT3, whereas GT4's Formula GT cars were somewhat of a disappointment. I'd love to take on my brother in a head-to-head battle between Ferarri and RBR!
