Rolls-Royce Cullinan II Black Badge: Quick Drive Review

It seems like only yesterday that the 120-year old manufacturer of some of the world’s most luxurious and high-status symbol vehicles made the decision to build a “high-sided vehicle“, and the accompanying fury in internet comments...

Minor quibble, the N74 was used in the 7 series. BMW no longer offer a V12 in their line up since the the G11/12 7-ers were phased out, making it somewhat Rolls-Royce exclusive now.

M760Li, if I recall. Drove one a couple of Septembers back, which is probably why it was in my head.

Well, that's certainly a colour, isn't it... 🤮 Helmet Pink?

As hateful looking as they are (the full-fat Range Rover does that particular shape so much better) i'm always amazed at how many i see around, given what they cost.

While I'm here, I'll also share some images of the new dealership in Leeds - the reason for my driving the Cullinan.

The front end just isn't working for me. There isn't much harmony between the loud supercar-style vents on the bottom and the more traditional Rolls grille and headlights on top, though I suppose a darker color might hide the disconnect much better.

And speaking of, the color choices on that one seem to say "someone's mistress threatened to go to the press".

Highest density of Rolls-Royces I've seen recently, in general, is at Silverstone.. With the Cullinan being the most popular...

Edit: now I'm looking at them, I think they're all Black Badges too.

..

I much prefer the pre face-lift Cullinan, and I would definitely have one over a Range Rover, because V12.

Yeah, the horizontal accents look better than the cliche angle bumpers.

Think I could order mine with a cashmere split bench seat up front?

Now that you've pointed it out, it almost looks like if you told AI to draw an updated Cullinan. The more I look at it, the less I like it.

I wonder how Series III will be now that Domagoj Dukec is director of design at Rolls-Royce...
If he's brave enough to trample over the BMW staple that is the kidney grill, then maybe he can do something interesting with RR. Anything would be better than their current copied Mansory homework direction.

I do think RR can do something more interesting in design. Been quite bland looking over the years, feel like they can do more to make it look more expensive and give it more of a wow factor. However, I think with this designer, you might get something like Mansory on drugs instead. Anyway, best of luck to him.
