Saving game problems

ok might be me but for some reason cant save at all
have gone into options ,and it is set on autosave
PS2 comes up with some chinese writing and two orange button options so i press the one on the right thinking it will save to memeory card,
but when i switch back on i have to start from the begining again

any help would be appreciated
