New wax, and it’s a big one this time.

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 2

So, had these ordered recently and they arrived yesterday.

Starting with this game, I got it because it came with 2 games I knew and loved that were among my top 10 favorite racing games on PS1 and I really wanted to experience them again on PC since I knew Test Drive 5 was even better and possibly Offroad 2 as well. Cool thing about this is it's still sealed! :D

Went looking for NASCAR Legends since I really wanted it and found this lot. The fact it had that already was good enough for me, but it having NR1999 was quite the offer since it's yet another Papyrus game, and I didn't know anything about Kawasaki ATV Powersports, but I felt it'd be worth finding out.

NASCAR Legends and NASCAR Racing 1999 Edition are worthy additions to my library and ones I see myself playing some in the future. As for Kawasaki ATV Powersports, it's alright, but it has a lot to offer even if the core gameplay isn't great.

While I have yet to get Test Drive Offroad 2 working, Test Drive 5 works really well after some tweaking. However, something I didn't know until I got these games is these versions are rereleases of said games that omitted the music for some reason. While it can be restored for Test Drive 5 and possibly Test Drive Offroad 2 as well, I can't help but be lowkey annoyed by this because 5's music has a lot of meaning to me. Still, glad to have the game either way.

I bought 3 deluxe/limited edition CDs by my main man this week. I lost all my vinyl and CDs in a house fire 10 years ago and switched to MP3s but I'm starting up a minor CD collection again.

Sorry to hear about the fire fella. As you work in Leeds, hit up Wall of Sound in the basement of Crash Records. Tons of CDs and Wax secondhand. Then again, if you’re Leeds man you’re probably all over it. 👍

In the past few days I've learned about this new shop right here in my hometown which is selling 2nd-hand games, reconditioned consoles and accessories for retro-gaming and so on... went there to check it out myself, this is what I bought on my first visit:

Let's break down the contents :D:
  • NFS Shift Platinum for PS3, a game I really missed for the last few years... I actually had the PC version of it, but my cousin did me the "favor" of giving it to someone else and I've never seen it again... this one cost me 10€
  • Gran Turismo 5 Academy Edition, a game I've never played before, cost me another 10€
  • Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Platinum, another game I've never played and this one is the most complete version of it if I'm not mistaken, 5€
  • GTA San Andreas for PS2, because why not... of course I already owned a copy of it, but I really wanted an earlier ROM than the one I currently have (which is the Platinum), this one is from 2004, cost me 12,5€
  • Bully Canis Canem Edit for PS2, the real highlight of the lot here... I've been trying to find this game for over 15 years, a true classic and really hard to come by these days. Complete with physical map and user manual, and the disc itself looks as good as new, all of this for ONLY 15€

The guy at the store told me he'll be adding some Gran Turismos for PS2 to the shelves this week, so I might come back for some more shopping... :dopey:

I've been at it once again :D

A couple of PS2 classics:
  • Red Dead Revolver, the quintessential western game from Rockstar Games which kickstarted the "Red Dead" series, for only 5€
  • Gran Turismo 4, for 15€. Another game I've been chasing for well over 15 years... finally! This personal quest as come to an end at long last... but I'm a little sad because I also wanted to buy a copy of Gran Turismo 3 but had no luck, it's a much rarer game than GT4 so that's to be expected.
I'll just have to keep my eyes open, a copy of GT3 might suddenly appear when I least expect it...

but I'm a little sad because I also wanted to buy a copy of Gran Turismo 3
In my opinion, GT4 is a better game. It improves on GT3 with things like Photo Mode and insane mission challenges.

I’ve very tempted to pick up a PS2 and GT4 right now, since the PS5 for GT7 is out of my budget range.

Edit: sod it, I’m gonna get one when my next beer check comes in.

I also really liked how GT4 allowed you to do qualifying for race positions ...it really bugs me how the following GT games always make you race from last position

Cockpit view and mechanical damage would have made GT4 even more of a grade A game, but I suppose it was already at the limits of the PS2.

Despite the (very) sad fact that I've never played both Gran Turismo 3 and 4, I totally believe 4 is a much better game than 3... but nonetheless I'd still like to have them both so I could make my own comparisons between the two titles.

One odd thing about these two games is that Gran Turismo 3 actually sold* more copies than 4 did, and yet nowadays it is much easier to find a copy of GT4 than GT3 for some reason...

I've always been of the opinion that GT4 is a better overall game, but GT3 is a lot more fun to play (and has a superior soundtrack).

GT4 was the first game that felt to me like an encyclopedia of cars. Unlike the pS3 era games, it still had a fully fleshed out singleplayer career that didn't force you into one starter car. GT3 is arguably still the benchmark title though. I need to find another PS2 quick!

Turns out I accidentally left my AA Battery Charger in my hotel when I evacuated during Hurricane Milton, so I winded up ordering a new one of those.

On the flipside, I also ordered a foldable case to store my vinyl records. The cubby where me & my mothers collections are stored was starting to get a tad tight, so this is a pretty solid alternative.

Pay no attention to the extremely out-of-date 2022 calendar.

Totally awesome that you got to meet the legend himself! Also immensely cool you got to meet/buy from J Rocc, too.

I didn't get into J Dilla until I got into High School, which was a few years after he passed. It was completly by accident as well. I was just randomly browsing YouTube and somehow came across "Won't Do" off of The Shining, and his whole style just instantly clicked for no real reason, which started my descent into old-school Hip Hop.

Suite for Ma Dukes is one I really need to add to my list of future pick-ups as well.
