Slightly Mad Studios Confirms New Project CARS Title is In Development

Lets hope PC3 will have a better weather system...and I'm not talking about the different weather options and their race/track influence. But rather an option where you won't know what will happen during the race in regards to weather. It is what completely puts me off doing custom races in PC2...what is the point setting up weather and knowing exactly what is going to happen.
You can choose 4 random weather slots too. Problem is the snow, as long as you are racing with GTs or openwheelers. With factory cars this is the way to go when arranging custom races.
 
Maybe a good compromise would be the ability to set up your own list of preset weather patterns -- whatever is sensible or appealing to you, or applicable to the discipline(s) you drive, categorized by season -- and instruct the game to draw from them at random? @IanBell

It shouldn't be too hard to create a 'random weather generator' where you can select the options of weather you want and allocate a percentage of likelihood to their occurance. My guess is that the current random button has all options equally likely which makes very little sense since the majority of races is held in 'clear' or 'cloudy' conditions.
 
You can select the random weather slots. My problem with them is that they seem to generate way too often extreme weather. However this can be worked around with something called the random weather generator. For more info search for it on the official forum.

I know there is random weather but it is hardly a realistic experience.

I've had races which went from heavy fog -> sun -> thunderstorm - > cloudy.

Just not the realistic experience I want. If codies can do a great variable weather sequence each race I'm sure SMS can as well.
 
Just an observation, but having no idea at all what the weather is going to do before a race isn't particularly realistic either - I can get a reasonably accurate hourly weather forecast the day before I go to any race meeting. Yes, there's always freak events like the famous N24 hailstorm of a few years ago, but 99% of the time a race team and driver will have a fairly good idea of what weather to expect for a given race.

I second both these sentiments

Open world would be a great way to have my wife or my kids play project cars
 
So I'm not the only one who thinks the format of a game like Forza Horizon is desperately crying out for a game with the authenticity and attention to detail of a game like PCARS? It's too bad Turn 10 and Playground Games don't give a crap. That's why I don't have an Xbox.
 
Another dream game would be a Need for Speed game based on an scenery like that of "Rivals", but on the Driveclub engine with its legacy physics before the infamous October 2015 patch that changed the car handling and physics for the worse.

Also, pure chase like the old good Need for Speed games and none of the modern gadgets, but just the classic control/spikes/helicopter request for the cops. No more.

Now that would top to me. The other dream of course a Driveclub game on PC2 street tyre physics.

Option being the key word here because personally I would never want weather effects thrown in at random. I don't find it to be realistic. No team sets their car up without devouring all the info on race day weather conditions.
 
Another key word would be probability as no one can exactly predict the weather. There are numerous ways to come up with improvements for the weather system and there is not one single solution that satisfies all of us.

I am part of the group the likes to have certain information on weather but not have 100% certainty about if and when it's going to rain. But to be fair at this point I'm more concerned with the AI's behaviour in the wet / changing conditions as I find it impossible to race with them in those conditions in PC2.

SMS are supposed to be working on a title based on the Fast and Furious franchise so you might get something along these lines.

And there's the possibility of a seemingly unseen storm coming out of nowhere. Especially in countries with those specific seasons like at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia if they add that circuit to the game.
 
I don't believe I'd buy a stand-alone game similar to Horizons but I would LOVE an element of open world as part of PC2/3

I would also love to build my own track in any place I wanted. Now, that might be a game I'd buy separately

But, I would still want the car physics to be real

Sure based on predictions...but exactly when, how much and for how long any weather condition will last they just don't know for a fact beforehand. A lot of planning beforehand and reacting...thinking on your feet etc. We don't have that with PC2. Just know exactly what comes next and for how long...

Sure it's a bit more predictable than real life but it still keeps you guessing on your strategy

Not really. Sure if you are talking about a few days out, but meteorology has gotten so precise that hours before a race they can pretty accurately tell what the exact weather is going to be for the race itself. As I said though, as long as it is optional and not forced on all of us I'm down with it.
 
If I got my way PC3 wouldn't be very different from PC2. I would scope it down a bit. Remove the niche stuff that is already done better by standalone sims, like Rallycross and karting. Add a few historic tracks, a few different cars.

A slightly smaller game with more polish and hopefully FFB a little closer to AC's
 
Rallycross has been a perfect tech demo to show us the potential of loose physics on this engine, but of course rallycross should not be coming back on pc3 and use that space and sources for even more tracks, and if possible, a potential expand on categories such as GT1, which still stands as best GT category ever even after 20 years.

And if possible too, the inclusion of old good GT2 of course. (Viper; Saleen etc = WIN WIN WIN)
 
Disagree totally - Rallycross absolutely should be included in the next game, it's a ton of fun and ultimately it's circuit racing - it just happens to be on mixed surface tracks. I'd welcome a few more tracks, and a couple more classics to race with the Escort (Mini and Beetle would be ace). In fact I would say it would be a waste not to include it, given the work that has gone into making it as good as it already is.

As for the idea that it's somehow 'taking up space' - I wasn't aware that there had been some kind of limit introduced on how big a game can be, or how many cars/tracks can be included...
 
Nobody said there was a limit to how many cars and tracks are allowed in the game. There is a point at which the team spreads themselves too thin and can't maintain a consistent quality across the cars and tracks they include in the game. In my opinion PC3 would be a better game if it were smaller and more polished. Cutting out Rallycross tracks and loose surfaces would go a long way towards making that happen.
 
I would like to see rallycross included in PC3. Not that I have done it a lot in PC2 but it's fun to do something else every once in a while. I believe that the quality of PC3 won't be determined by the inclusion or exclusion of Rallycross. For me the ice track should be removed first.

In general I would always say that more is always better as I would never say no to more cars, classes and tracks. Of course cars and classes have only added value if they can be used in good racing. That's why I prefer current classes to be expended and for the possibility to BOP classes
 
If rallycross ultimately got axed from PCARS3, they better make up for it with a significant expansion on roadcars -- including more compact cars and sub-supercar AWDs and such, to replace the subtracted rallycross cars with another batch of cars that are similarly fun to chuck around. Or is that going back to square one again with the alleged problem?

Depends on who you ask. As this "I don't like xyz and I think it shouldn't be in the game" thing always does.
 
PC3 online*will continue to be a scattered disaster if there're so many categories again. Less categories means better online competition through way more folks racing together.

Imho, the categories in PC3 when It comes to GT should be something like a totally expanded GT1 cars from the nineties-early 2000's; GT2 from the same timeline; these modern emasculated GT3 cars full of assists; and GT4. That would probably ensure a much better online competition. The rest can get removed with the exceptio of course of factory cars, which could use a much better and expanded hypercar category, and at the very least two or three more country based circuits Driveclub style, like Bannochbrae

So because not every car is used as much in public online lobbies they should remove them from the game? I strongly disagree there, not only are the other cars used enough in time trials and private lobbies they are vital for players racing primarily offline.

I think the online competition would improve a lot by starting with better search filters. Since adding a fair share of good online driver I noticed how many lobbies don't show in my 20 lobbies list. Being able to search for certain car classes or tracks would help.
