Strange subwoofer issue

I've noticed recently that I've been getting a really annoying noise from my subwoofer.

Every minute or so, I get this pitter pattering in my woofer. It can come and go, which is what's really annoying. It's definately in that and not the speakers, as you can feel the sub doing it when you put your hand over it's speaker. It only happens when there's something bassy going through it, but it continues for a few seconds after it stops (e.g if I pause the song or mute the tv).

The answer would be to get a new sub, but because I've got a cheap (if reliable up to now) system, the whole decoder is built into it.

Any ideas before I go and (waste) my money on an expensive replacement?

There might be something loose inside of it. Maybe a flange came loose, or a screw came out and is rattling around inside. So if your woofer has some screws that you can remove to get inside of it, and if you feel brave enough to open it, check out the inside of it.

Hope that helps:)

Ok, I'll see if there's anything loose :). I don't think it's that kind of an issue, though, as it tends to do it after it's been in use for a few hours. It never does it immediately after I turn it on.

Pfft, no way. I'll replace them with something that looks stupidly expensive. Y'know, to go with the £15 chipboard cabinet it sits in.

Seriously, though, I'd probably go for something with the same number of inputs as this has (optical, phono, coaxial). Maybe something with a dvd player.

It's actually getting worse. The Friends theme tune sounds like all 6 of them are doing riverdance in there.

I'm gonna email the people who make it and see what they think.
