Take care of you DS and your PS2s

http://www.megagames.com/news/html/console/sonytoldvibrationnotforfree.shtml

"Sony was ordered by a U.S. federal court to immediately stop U.S. sales of its PlayStation game consoles and pay USD 90.7 million to Immersion for patent infringement over controllers used with PlayStation game consoles. The federal court's order states that Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Entertainment America Inc. have to stop selling the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 game consoles using Dualshock controllers as well as more than 40 game software products, although the judge immediately put her ruling on hold. "

Another words they can keep selling until the case goes to appeal court and then a descion is made. Imagine if the court still holds the others descion.

If that affects the UK too, then its time to go to Ebay and sell partly broken PS2's cos supply is going to be low.
Cool, money making time.

P.S this should have been in the PS2 section, Am I correct?
EDIT: It got moved

Immersion corp. What a bunch of dicks. How can you patent vibration? What will they patent next? Masturbation?

I read this topic because today I bashed my DS2 against the floor in anger. I bashed it pretty hard (I can see the wires inside and the colour of my DS2 is black... go figure), and the PS2 got confused into thinking it was a steering wheel. Yet everything still seems to work ok. Hope things stay that way!

They didn't patent virbration, just the way to make it in a controler. Just like people have... never mind.

Sony is getting what they deserve. They looked at his idea, and then claimed they had something like it already. Yeah, sure they did.

I just read about this little while ago. I also heard that Nintendo had the rights cleared to start with and Microsoft had already settled out of court.

My only question is, Sony had been using this technology for a while now. What took Immersion corp so long? Smells fishy............

Either way, good one Sony! :ouch:

I too find this fishy , we've had DS pads for several years now .

Sounds to me that MS has a big part in this .Settled out of court hmmm more like payed immersion a handsome sum to raise the case against Sony.

MS can't be happy with the PS2's sales record against the Xbox . this is the reason ( i think)
MS are just far too greedy they want the market place all to themselves , they've more or less conquered the PC/internet world. "what else could we have" we want it all we want to be in control"

I wouldn't put it past them , they've done it before bringing down several companys and their products.
Just so they can push their products in place. Sega's console divsion springs to mind here..

Some might argue that it's good buisiness i have to dissagree there i personally want the choice ,not be forced in buying products from one company.
Im sure thats the way things will go sometime in the future.

Just my opinion ;O)

i'm sure sony corp can pay of 90 mill, they're one of the biggest freakin electronics suppliers in the world, right?

If I was in charge at Sony, (firstly this would have never happened) I'd pay it off and try to come out of this without a tainted image.

I'm sitting at this desk and sitting infront of me is this green piece of paper with some dead guy and the number "1" on it. this piece of paper is ruling the world, and there's nothing I can do to stop it.

Microsoft will someday merge with/buy AOLTimeWarner, Wal-mart and DaimlerChrysler and become...

OMNICORP

Sony had some job positions altered recently. No doubt this case had something to do with it. 90 million still hurts no matter how big a company is, but this hit Sony kind of hard. They recently put up a lot of money to start the Cell chip and the Blu-ray production, among other things, plus the company hasn't being doing well for the past several years.

While it may sound paranoid to some people, corporate espionage is nothing special. I'm sure a lot of companies are guilty of it to certain degree. With the kind of financial power Microsoft possess, it would be naive not to suspect Microsoft IMO.

Solid Lifters: I just read your avatar........ :scared: I can't believe it. When I was really young(grade school), I made an kid cry with that. Almost 20 years later, I am still ashamed of what I did. It's so embarassing.

OMG OMG OMG ITZ M$!!11!!1 THEY WANT YOUR MONEY!!11!!

Oh shut up, no one cares for petty guess work.

MS are just far too greedy they want the market place all to themselves

And OFC sony don't want your money and love you!
