That bug where you run the race alone...

I used to be able to play Daily Races now after the last couple of updates to the game started getting this bug.

I don't have any issues with other games. Does GT Sport need a very specific, or more demanding network setup than other PS4 games??

@ItzLewis Here is a video of the bug in action from last night. I tried to share the video in game so people can download and step through each car, but it won't upload for some reason. I will keep it and try again some other time. Maybe it's too big?

Either way, here it is...Lonely Race Bug! After all the grip stuff, I was so down that I didn't care at all. I shouldn't even have entered the race.

Interesting side note, in my garage, it took a while for all the car images to load prior to this race. This may or may not be related. Maybe something happened on the server end?

Just wondering, did the post race results show that you finished 1st?

When I get the bug I can finish the race and get allocated a place depending on my finishing time, if there are any other finishers and only if my PS4 manages to reestablish a connection to the server.
I usually quit out of the race though. Who wants to race 8 or 10 Laps without opponents? It's a shame that the Daily Races have this bug, unplayable for me :(

So, theoretically, you could get free wins/clean races?

Yes, and even if the system could be cheated, that's not really the point.
The point is I've had a great time in these Daily Races and had good, enjoyable racing but as of recently something changed and I get this annoying bug. I haven't changed anything in my networking setup. Sigh.

Update:
Last night I got so fed up with the situation that I googled all sorts of things regards network setup, like if there are any known issues with powerline adapters and GTSport or also if it requires specific port-forwarding that UPnP cannot do.

What I found was:
-powerlines are fine for many people provided configured right, paired, plugged in directly
-uPnp also fine for people, no custom port forwarding needed (assuming firewall is off on the router)

So basically if you see Nat 2 in your Playstation Network check GTSport should run just fine.
I've always had Nat 2 and Daily Races were most definately really broken for me.

Because I was curious last night I poked around in my TpLink router setting and noticed the 'Enable IGMP snooping setting' was enabled. Because this setting is off by default on many other routers (google told me) I turned it off and rebooted the router.

Later the night I tried Daily Races again and for whatever reason this time the 'cars not moving' bug was gone. WTF??

I suspect the IGMP snooping is a coincidence and what happened was that either PD or Sony fixed whatever was broken on their end silently.
Whenever you check the PSN status in the PS4 XMB Network check it is always up for me (am in Oceania region). Green lights for everything. But I think it's a lie. There are clearly problems sometimes which you can see how slow and laggy the XMB is sometimes.

Anyhow, I'm glad this is sorted for me personally, right now, but I still feel there is something really broken going on that Sony or PD is not telling us about.

The bug was back with a vengeance last night. Out of 4 Daily Races I started 3 had the bug. I quit out of 2 and as result my SR dropped to B.
Sigh, I'm gutted because I tend to get better racing in Daily Races than on public lobbies.

Does anybody have any suggestions what to try? I noticed my GT Sport also loses the connection to the server regularly so I'm playing in offline mode for 10mins or so until it reconnects.

When I check the if PSN services are up they always are, so I assume there is some kind of problem on my end.

My playstation is connection to the router with a powerline, there is no wifi involved. I'm getting good speeds in the playstation network test, always Nat2, and usually 10 or great mbit download and 1 mbit upload.

I'm stumped

1 mbit upload
Yeah, that's not a big number. Especially as when you're online, you're connecting to Japan.

What's your ping like?

Give the PS4 a static IP in both the console and the router, then set it in the router's DMZ. Wired is far superior to any other connection method, but it's your call.

After that the only thing left is that your ISP might be incredibly unfriendly for gaming.

a while back i started a race at interlagos and all but 1 other car got kicked out. i followed the other driver round and overtook last lap for the easiest win I've had!

Over Memorial Day weekend I was in a daily with 19 others, during the last starting position screen everyone but me disappeared, I thought it was going to be a timed race but it was not, apparently everyone except me was disconnected. Somehow I got the win and fast lap but no pole position.:confused::confused::confused:

Thanks for the suggestions Famine. My ping to Japan is pretty average I'm sure. I only ever get yellow bars and I noticed all the other players from Oceania region (New Zealand and Australia) have yellow bars also, so it is not just an ISP issue, it is a region issue.

Re static ip my provider 'Flip internet' does not offer it. I think it is because it is a fairly low-cost provider. Some of the more expensive providers here in New Zealand managed to securite some static ipv4 ips that you can buy. I learnt all of this recently, you do get what you pay for!

I have reserved an ip for my PS4 on my local network at the moment and used that IP for the DMZ on the router. Everything works as you expect but it does not fix the Daily Race bugs I'm having.

My conclusions are :
1) Flip internet may be unfriendly to GTsport or vice versa. I have no issues with other games. For example I play a ton of Battlefield4 with excellent pings and I also played AC and Pcars2 online without issue on the same night (I did a late night bender recently testing various ways of connecting the PS4 to the internet including wired, wireless, wireless through iMac hotspot etc)

2) My TP-link adsl router may have an issue with GTsport. Everything indicates Upnp is working but maybe it juts is not in some suble way

I also have a few Airport Extremes in the house which I am running in bridge mode currently with the routing being performed by the Tp link unit, and airports just providing wireless access points. What I"ll try next is to have the tp-llink be a modem bridge and use an airport extreme as router instead. Maybe the routing in the Apple routers is more GTsport friendly. I dislike that the apple routers don't have a web interface but I'll live. It's worth trying.

If that still doesn't work I'll buy a new tp-link router with VDSL option and faster lan ports, as my current one has only 100mbit. And as you mentioned Famine, maybe 1mbit uplink isn't all that fast anymore if a few things are happening at the same point and maybe it's time to switch our broadband plan from adsl to vdsl. I just don't like changing plans much, cause usually the providers bungles something up and you're offline for a few days or a week.

I'll get this sorted eventually, I'm just surprised not more people are having these issues. It must be something really weird and specific to my hardware and GTsport because literally every other PS4 game works flawlessly online for me.

I'm not even sure what you just said, I am grateful I dont have problems, I would be in a load of trouble, I have a hard enough time just finding the power button on my PS4!!:dunce::dunce::dunce::dunce::dunce:

Is there a name for this bug.

I am sure that I am not alone in getting into a daily race and then having all the other cars fall off thw track.

It's the Matrix Lakebum Glitch ;)

Watch at 4:15 you have the Real and Matrix Lakebum screens synched together.

On the day of the last update, when I first ran LeMans, we were under the auto drive until half way down the Mulsanne Straight.

Haha, sorry about nerding out. My home network isn't much more complex than a normal wireless router. Just imagine a two story house with a wireless router for each floor connected by a power line network adapter, because its more reliable than a wireless signal. That's my setup in a nutshell.

I've had a few days where I was able to race Daily Races without trouble.

But I've also had the odd day where I did have the bug again. I wonder if this is related to CGNAT (carrier grade nat) that my provider is doing. I've read Sony has had a CGNAT unfriendly policy in the past, possibly banning multiple users from PSN when only one user from that provider was actually breaking rules (cgnat means that all the isp users appear as one user to the Sony network put simply)
On the day I had the bug I did get a PSN error at one stage which when I googled it lead me to a Sony page saying if I searched for this error it meant I was banned from using PSN. The next day it was fine again.

  • What I am starting to gather from others comments is that all game play "decisions" such as penalties are made on our decks and not handed down from the servers, is this correct? Is this why we see someone that has a penalty during the race doesnt have one in the results or why we may hit someone and get an SR down display but at the end of the race we get a clean race bonus? Bad communication between the game deck and server?

Yes and it can be really annoying as you get a 1s penalty for getting hit and the game tells you the perpetrator got 10s but, no, he doesn’t have one because of lag and finishes ahead of you.

Just to try to eliminate things and not a permanent move I would try connecting the PS4 to the router directly by network cable. A very long length temporarily winding round the house or more the PS4 and a small screen next to the router and test with a DS4. This would at least give you the absolutely optimum local connection even if your ISP might still be iffy or something odd in the game code. However, your intermittant access to PSN does seem to indicate that you have a serious network issue. I have only had a problem accessing PSN when the servers were known to be down for a few hours. I have never had an issue otherwise. I do live in Europe though. My own PS4 Pro is hardwired to our router.

I do have a second PS4 directly connect to the router that connect with the ADSL modem and on that console I have not yet experienced the Daily Race bug. So it is something to do with the PS4 that is connected upstairs (separate room with steering wheel setup) behind the power line and second router.
The PSN connection issues I only ever experienced in GTSport, it is not really a 'serious network issue' for any other game.

I haven't tried the Daily Races in a few days, I wonder if the bug will come back or not, it seems pretty random now. I'm kind of over it either way. The penalty system is so questionable that I'm probably better off racing with friends anyhow rather than strangers.

Man, for the last 3 weeks, all of a sudden I have the same problem I have read the exact page when it started happening and tried everything. Nothing works.

I love this game when it's working, but it's not!!!

Has anyone solved this one!?

Wired connection, static IP on PS4 and DMZ for that IP on router. That solved problem for my. On WiFi I had problems all the time.

Sorry for the late reply, but no, your finishing position is based on your overall time. I still get this bug from time to time. I had it happen last week in Race C at Lemans

Yeah exactly the same happens to me. Except the start messes you up. And some guy complaining about me ramming them??? Lol. Couldn't even see them...

You can still ram them though (on their screen anyway).

same to mee ... AND .. sometimes they have a full speed during the start countdown so after it starts they are much quicker than me and i cant do anything with it ... so the normal first lap in interlagos is about 1:37 but they have 1:35 which is impossibble on the first lap ... question is if they see it the same way as i do :))

I actually completely deleted the game and reinstalled it, still didn't work..

I only had that happen to me 1 time, it happened between the warm up and race start screens, went from 18 cars to just me. At the end I had the win, fast lap, and the pole, I dont remember if I was actually on the pole or not before the bug.
