This photo should make you think of Gran Turismo 1. by syntex123

This Month's Theme:

My First Gran Turismo

It’s been awhile since the PMC was last seen around here. Same thing can be said about me, my sporadic presence started when I got my first son in 2018. But I digress, let’s blow off the dust and see if we can restart the greatness of the PMC, which dates back all the way to 2005 in Gran Turismo 4!
This month's theme is My First Gran Turismo:

"For this competition revival, you all are invited to capture stunning images that showcase the beauty and artistry of Gran Turismo. Recently we were teased that PD would release a free-to-play experience will evoke nostalgia and excitement of the very first Gran Turismo experience. I want to see how you creatively take a photo that pays homage to the first Gran Turismo you played.

THEME GUIDELINES

  • Focus on capturing what Gran Turismo means to you in your shot.
  • Post-processing(merging two images taken in-game into one) is allowed, but don't superimpose other objects.
  • Like in the LEC, you can add a story to your entry. But please do so in a separate post quoting your entry for less clutter to help make poll creation faster.
CARS:
- Any.

DRIVER:
- If you find it suitable.

LIVERY:
- No restrictions. Can be made by you or the community, but it would be nice if you credited the creator under your entry if it isn't yours.

LOCATIONS:
- No restrictions.

SCAPES:
- Allowed.

COMPETITION RULES

Please, ensure you read and understand all requirements for this competition. Failure to follow the rules may result in disqualification. If you have questions, start a convo with me.

  • The only way you can take part is to be a member of the GTPlanet forums. If you haven't created your account yet click here.
  • It is recommended you host your image either here on GTPlanet (via the Media section), or on Flickr.
  • Not sure how to submit your image? Here's a guide for both methods mentioned above.
  • Preview images can not exceed 640 pixels in either direction.
  • Aspect ratio need to be set to 3:2.
  • A preview image must be representative of the full-size image. Do not add effects to it.
  • Please use a clickable-preview to full-size, not a separate text link for it; it makes poll creation much easier!
  • Mark your FINAL ENTRY clearly, with red text.
Unsure how to? Copy and paste the following:
    Code:
    [COLOR=red][B]FINAL ENTRY[/B][/COLOR]
  • Unless specified in the theme, no post-game editing except basic image processing(color and contrast), proportional resizing and rotating, is allowed.
  • One entry per user. It must be your own work, and never previously used in a comp.
  • Do not ask other users to choose your entry.
  • Absolutely no entries which utilize edited/hacked file saves.
  • You may change your entry once. Do it clearly; edit out your previous entry, and either post the new one in a new reply, or in place of the original.
  • Do not post "Honourable Mentions" or outtakes - just your Final Entry, that's all.
  • Winner gets to choose the following month’s theme.
  • Winners cannot enter in their own theme!
  • The Host may ask for the original image and it must be submitted if so.
It's recommended to save the original image (preferably in-game) until the competition ends.

Well, it didn't matter that I forgot to check in, it didn't catch on. That's too bad, but I guess it's just not the right time to revive this one. Hopefully in GT8, then! :)

Added a poll, if you could be so kind. :D

I can always re-open it, but it was open for a whole month, so if it didn't attract attention then I'm not sure it will if we give it another two weeks unless someone wants to ping someone higher up to feature it on the main page or on X. I would, but I think I've nagged them a lot about front page coverage and more in the past regarding the LEC

But let's try.

Unable to remove the poll, though.

Cool, I'm in. I just finally got a PS5 and GT7 this year, but was disappointed I didn't see any PMCs for GT7 with it's very good photo mode options and features. I just saw this thread today, so that's why I hadn't entered. I was a part of the PMCs from many years ago, and maybe even entered in to the very first one we ever had. I can't remember, been a long long time. Anyway, I'll come up with something to enter. Hope more people join. The more the merrier. I always enjoyed it.

That's very cool, it'll be good to have you onboard :D

If it fails again even after extending the time, I have one more idea to get it revived and thriving, but then it'd probably be wildly different than we're used to. But such a divergence from its original form might make it more successful. The presentation and rules will stay the same, so don't be afraid it'll change too drastically. More on that in 11 days. :)

Link to full image sorry I just don't know how to link a image and its not working on my end.
Use Flickr. It's so easy there. :)

I've mentioned before, but the PSP entry was my first GT game. The thought about having those cars and tracks in a handheld was inciting. And the ZR1s debuted in that game still looks good then and now.
And in the right colors too ;) Nice one.

Just a reminder:

Little over one day left if anyone else wants to join in. Posting my other revive idea later tonight, so that there won’t be any gaps in comps.

I have a feeling that idea will be a more successful one.

Edit: I forgot. will do it soon.

If I didn’t get the sizing right, I apologize.I’ve been working from my phone.

FINAL ENTRY

I was going for the look of the original PS1 GTs

When I post from my phone I always open the flickr pic in the browser and view the desktop version so I can post it the usual way to make sure I get it in the size I need.

I’m on my phone now so I can’t tell the size, but I think I’ll accept wrong sizes this round anyway, so few entries. :D

Definitely get a retro vibe from your entry 👍🏻

FINAL ENTRY

My first GT game was GT3. The CLK GTR was my favorite car back then, and I thought the CLK touring car was very close, so that was my favorite car from the game. I remember driving it on the test course and the feeling for me was like driving a kart with a ps2 controller. So much grip and agility. This is obviously the CLK LM, but still close. :P You can't see the speed from the photo, but this was a flying lap and my line for this corner was really good in my opinion. I really enjoy driving this car in anger, like it is meant to.

FINAL ENTRY
Gran Turismo

full
Unfortunately 1 Minute late. Had this idea of doing something at Tokyo Expressway, inspired by the Clubman night circuits from the original Gran Turismo game. After rewatching the intro video in a looong while, I came across this shot with a MR2 GT with race modification. Seeing the intro and driving demos triggered some nostalgia. Maybe this livery doesn't stand out like some of the more iconic ones, but shots like these capture the essence of what the series was about for me from the beginning – simulating the driving on the edge of (mostly Japanese) performance cars on console.

The car seems to have different wheels in the intro video (maybe Speedline 5-spoke centerlock?) than in the actual game, so used the ones I felt matched the video the closest. Also, I'm not too sure if the shot is actually from Deep Forest. If remembered right, there were no guardrails before GT7.

Edit:
Photo edited in Photoshop to stamp out the GT logo, add tyre smoke and Camera Raw filter for look.
