It was compressed, but it sure was sounding good. A lot better than most other games, so far.

I liked the demo, but the graphics are meh. OK game, but not worth $60, though. I'll wait until it goes on sale, then I'll get this one.

I unlocked all the levels and all the extra moves, but no grenade, so far. I doubt there is one for this short demo.

I thought it was OK. Nothing spectacular, but still had some fun playing it.

Gosh it just appeared without any announcement, I was really keen on this title and have been wanting the special edition with the film for ages but now that I have read some of the reviews saying its quite standard, has a very short story and the graphics are okish im kind of put off because for that price I could get like nearly 2 games.

I have a few questions, I will get my hands on the demo tomorrow..

Multiplatform owners, how does the 360/ps3 demos differ in terms of the usual like graphics?

What the "something special for PS3 owners" in the demo that the devs used as the reason why the demo was delayed?

Can you buy a standard PS3 version without the film?

I may also wait now till after its out, prices tend to drop quite quick if its just a 'reasonable' game...

1.3GB... jeez whats in this thing!

Yes, it's the standard $59.99.
So the film is "free." Of course, then I am stuck trying to decide whether it should be shelved with my movies or my games.

I might wait for a better movie tie-in game. Imagine Transformers Special Edition with movie and game....

Heh, as soon as I noticed the size last night while downloading I figured they did it on purpose, I would imagine the special something mentioned is getting the movie for free.

Don't take my opinion as gospel (as I'm comparing an older 360 build vs a newer PS3 build, and the PS3 demo itself seems to be buggier since people have been saying it dips down to 2-5fps while others say it's a somewhat stable 30fps):

From what I've noticed, the 360 demo bounces back and forth from 60fps to 30fps, with a few hitches (in regular fights or just running down a hall) taking it down to around 25fps. With the PS3 demo, it's 30fps with slightly more regular hitches, but in some gunfights with a lot of things going on on-screen, it can dip down to 15fps and stay there for a while. For comparison, in those same gunfights in the 360 demo everything was smooth with an occasional drop to the said 25fps.

As for graphics themselves, there's no anti-aliasing differences (obviously since UE3 doesn't use AA), and everything seems to be slightly brighter (as per course with every other multiplatform game out there).

Then again, Midway did do a remarkable job since this is a UE3 PS3 game, especially since it's coming only 3 weeks after the 360 version. I was expecting worse given the engine's problems with the platform.

Guys, I don't think there's a special thing in the demo. And to get Hard Boiled w/ Stranglehold you have to pony up the extra $10 for the $70 collector's edition.

What equipment did you use to measure the frame rates during playback? And exactly where in the demo did you see these extra "hitches" that were not in the 360 demo?

You've been proven wrong about quite a few of your negative assessments on multiplatform PS3 games, so why should we believe you now?

I personally think you're making all this up to once again try as you may to suggest that the 360 versions of games are better.

The film Hard Boiled is definitley no junk. It's one hell of an action movie. I'm a fan of Chow Yun-Fat and John Woo, so Stranglehold is definitly THE game for me ;)
Agreed, it's the film that in many ways is attributed to the re-birth of Hong Kong cinema and was the inspiration of many famous action film directors today. So sought after was the OOP DVD from Criterion that copies were being sold on eBay for over $1,000... so yeah, the film is not junk. :)

I finally played it and I thought the visuals were more interesting than the gameplay, all the jumping over stuff is quite cool but you tend to jump dive and go into slow motion all over the place, its quite hard to keep it smooth and in control.

The environments and the way they can be shot up is amazing! what game can you shoot a hanging roast pig to pieces and shoot a drinks machine till the cans fall out and explode!!! The attention to detail is staggering!!! I spent more time seeing how stuff breaks when I shoot it than playing the game!

Hmm, I dont know yet whether its worth a purchase or not...

Try shooting up the reinforced concrete columns and the fish sculpture water fountain. Pretty cool to see how they slowly degrade and fall apart.

The game is like a combo of Black and GTA with a little bit of MGS2 thrown in.

Too bad there's not a lot of ammo for the Golden Guns. I get a max of 30 rounds.

I wish developers would stop designing games for the 360. The graphics are horrible, even on UE3. There is an obvious limit on what the 360 can produce graphically. I shouldn't have to play 360 garbage on my PS3. 👎

I didn't finish the demo. After getting the phone call from the captain, a guy runs off and I guess you're supposed to follow. I got lost in the endless maze gray buildings. The game actually started to stutter. It was like one frame per ten seconds. I shot a guy in the head and he was in an endless loop of rubbing his bloody head.

I played through it again and OMG if you try and do alot of fancy movement with lots of enemies on screen the game goes down to like 2 FPS and even freezes! It stutters along and the graphics are only average...

Its a pity...

I agree, all deved games should have separate teams for each system to get the best outcome but NO still people think doing a shoddy job for PS3 is acceptable. You also have to remember that the 360 doesnt come with a HDD as standard so they cannot dev with cacheing in mind thus limiting the games alot and the PS3 suffers. Lots of first party PS3 titles cache to the HDD to improve performance.

Yeah, it slowed down a lot for me too. Hopefully it'll be fixed for the real one because I was looking forward to that.

Although I agree with having games made for each system with seperate teams or made for the PS3 then ported to the 360, I totally disagree with some 360 games looking like "garbage".

Other than the 360 not being able to simulate dynamic lighting/shadows (etc) properly, do you seriously think Gears of War and Bioshock look "terrible?" Hell, even Jeremy seems to agree the games look good.

Other than that, makes me wonder if you're seeing the 360 games correctly on whoever's TV you're seeing it on (I doubt you have a 360 yourself).

That is one of the most closed-minded comments Ive ever heard. Not to mention there is no substantial evidence to even partially support that statement. Yes, developers should have separate teams to build different versions for each platform, but I dont think that the PS3 is all that more capable as of now to have games that look drastically better graphics-wise. If you can show me some sort of evidence, Ill believe you, until then, that was a terrible and misleading comment.

Have you played Stranglehold on the PS3, yet? It ain't that great graphically. That's all the evidence that's needed.

When did I say anything about the Stranglehold? And when did I say that we are getting good ports? I know that we are getting crappy ports. I said that I do believe they need separate teams for separate consoles. But, Solid Fro is suggesting that all 360 games are limited and that the PS3 is capable of sooo much more than the 360 in the way of graphics. Give me evidence of that. BTW, read my post thoroughly before responding to what I didnt say.

Stranglehold is a 360 port. There's your proof.

What Solid Fro said is true and is supported with proof.

If the XBox360 can do graphics as well as PS3, ports wouldn't look so bad, which they do.
