I'm curious what makes you think it may exceed 50GB. Prologue is what, a 2.5GB download? Let's just round up to 5GB total, which is overshooting it to play safe, but takes into account having downloaded the intro and ending movies.I'm curious about the size of all the data, and whether or not GT5 will even fit on one 50GB Blu-ray disc (equivalent to about 7 DVDs).
GT5P isn't exactly anorexic, even without any GTTV videos downloaded.
A large portion of game data is graphics and physics engines. In Prologue I would guess those take up much more than the cars do. You would have to attribute all game data to the cars to assume 600 cars would even approach 50GB. I think it is safe to say that content data takes up minimal space when you realize that the intro and ending movies take up nearly as much space, and if you add on Beyond the Apex it is even more than the game itself. As there are no cinematic cutscenes in the GT series I am guessing the biggest data hog will be audio.
I'm not saying it won't be big, but if we figure Prologue has a beta build of the graphics and physics engines we can likely assume the final product won't have much more than twice the data devoted to that and then content may only take up another 20GB total.
Also, we should keep in mind that in comparison to games like MGS4 it is not a data hog. MGS4 used all uncompressed audio, including the long stretches of radio static.
But I am just guessing based on what I see from Prologue. You would have to make a few extreme assumptions on data usage to believe there is a serious chance it will take over 50GB.
And if it did, two discs. It won't be the first time.
