Remember the World Cup of Movie Cars? Well it's back, and this time it's TV.

Over the next week, I'll be taking suggestions from GTPlanet members of what the greatest television car in history was - or is. I'll follow that up with a poll thread which will contain all* of the suggestions to come up with a final shortlist of 32.

I'll then seed those 32 by the poll results (top seeds will be the eight highest-scoring cars), and draw them into eight groups of four (one top seed in each group, one second seed, one third seed, one fourth seed) at random. They will then go onto our social media channels for voting. Two cars from each group will progress to a head-to-head second round, gradually whittling the field down to a final vote between the two remaining cars. The winner will be GTPlanet's Greatest Television Car of All Time.

The selection criteria are:
* The car must appear in any broadcast or streamed television show
* Yes, that includes cartoons, anime, whatever
* Yes, even fictional ones
* Yes, even if it's a TV show based on a film, or which subsequently had a film
* Bikes aren't cars. Nor are trikes, or quadbikes. I'll allow panel vans (which you can drive on a car licence) but not trucks/semi-trucks (which you can't).

Have opinions now.

*There is an upper limit; we may remove cars from the list of suggestions if they are not significant enough within their show to really qualify as "a TV car", such as something really cool you saw in the background of a TV show that you like. We will likely use IMCDB's star rating as criteria for this.

I remember loving this show as a kid just because of the car, a transforming Dodge Viper. Here it is in "defender mode"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viper_(TV_series)

Viper is an American action-adventure television series about a special task force set up by the federal government to fight crime in the fictional city of Metro City, California that is perpetually under siege from one crime wave after another. The weapon used by this task force is an assault vehicle that masquerades as a Dodge Viper RT/10 roadster and coupe (later, the Viper GTS)

The 1986 Plymouth Junkerolla (aka Homer's Pink Sedan)

Dorian mother****ing Harewood. I so wanted that show to do well, if only to see more of him.

Edit: Wow, I expected the entire word to be censored rather than only the four letter expletive within it.

Here are my suggestions:

Miami Vice

Miami Vice is an American crime drama television series created by Anthony Yerkovich and executive produced by Michael Mann for NBC. The series starred Don Johnson as James "Sonny" Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs, two Metro-Dade Police Department detectives working undercover in Miami. (Source Wikipedia)

This is the 1986 Testarossa, the original car was a replica mockup using a Chevrolet Corvette as the base but was subject to a Ferrari lawsuit.

Magnum PI

Magnum P.I. (2018) Magnum, P.I. is an American crime drama television series starring Tom Selleck as Thomas Magnum, a private investigator (P.I.) living on Oahu, Hawaii. The series ran from 1980 to 1988 (Source Wikipedia)

Car is a 1984 Ferarri 308 GTS

Sledge Hammer's Car:

Model is a Dodge St Regis saloon car from the 1979 to 82 era and featured in the show Sledge Hammer

Sledge Hammer! is an American satirical police sitcom produced for Television that ran for two seasons on ABC (US) from 1986 to 1988. The series stars David Rasche as Inspector Sledge Hammer, a caricature of the standard "cop on the edge" character. Inspired by Clint Eastwood's no-nonsense approach to law enforcement in the Dirty Harry films, Sledge Hammer of the San Francisco Police Department is a violent, insensitive detective. His prized possession is a .44 Magnum Smith & Wesson Model 629 revolver. Hammer sleeps and showers with his gun. His car is a 1979-82 Dodge St.Regis sedan in green, and is typically beat up with scratches and bullet holes. It features a distinctive 'I love violence' sticker on the back. (Source Wikipedia)

EDIT: Another Dodge Daytona from Hunter

Hunter is an American crime drama television series created by Frank Lupo, which ran on NBC from September 18, 1984 to April 26, 1991 (Source Wikipedia)

The model is a 1984 model the year the car debuted.

The cartoon cars are a little harder for me to come up with as not that many of them stand out from what I used to watch as a kid.

Penelope Pitstop from Wacky Races

Although I know that this is Columbo's Peugeot, can we have some basic info on the cars and shows please? I can't be arsed looking them all up.

Should I just update my existing post or make a separate entry?

EDIT: I updated!

Absolutely. My apologies. I momentarily forgot this was for a list to be compiled and then voted upon, and was haphazardly posting "cars from TV shows".

Posts updated.

They had some interesting choices in cars for Breaking Bad. The one that also stands out for me is Jesse’s Toyota Tercel Wagon 4WD. Weird af.

I really wanted to nominate the IT from South Park but turns out Mr. Garisson calls it a bike.
