This season has been pushed back, to be held in Gran Turismo 7 after its release. However, this thread contains all the information regarding the championship, and will still be used as a reference.

TURN ONE GT500

Season 3

The Turn One GT500 Cup is an 8-week online league racing championship using the 2016 Gr.2 cars in Gran Turismo 7 (PS5). Races are held on Sundays, with a qualifying session followed by one or two races depending on the circuit.

Drivers will pair up into teams, and compete in two separate championships: the Drivers Championship, where individual drivers score points in each race for themselves, and the Teams Championship, where teams will compete against each other.

To register, drivers need to submit the following entry information either by sending a Discord DM to Emilius73#1785 or by replying to this GTPlanet thread:

For a team:
  • Team name
  • Car used
  • Main sponsor (if there is one)
For a driver:
  • Driver’s PSN username
  • Country
  • Race number
  • Team

Race length:
For SINGLE RACE weekends: 150km
For DOUBLE RACE weekends: 90km for the first race, 60km for the second

Qualifying length: 20 minutes
Start type: Rolling start (the in-game grid start option will be used for the formation lap, see the FCCs and Formation Laps section for more information)
Tire wear: 4x
Fuel consumption: 2x (disabled in qualifying)
Tire selection: RH, RM, RS (RSS will be available for use in qualifying)
Damage: Full (heavy mechanical, visual enabled)
Corner cutting penalties: Weak
Tuning on
Boost off
Other penalties off
Flag rules on
Slipstream strength: Real
Driving assists: All are allowed except Auto-drive.

Some race weekends (see the Calendar section below for more info) will have a two-race format applied to them. As previously mentioned, the first race of said weekends will be 90km long, with the second being 60km long. The standard Qualifying session will be used to determine the grid for the first race, while the second race’s grid will be determined by the first race’s results, with the top 4 finishers in reverse order.

The two races will apply ballast to the highest finishing drivers. To see how much ballast they each apply, see the Ballast section below.

In a single race weekend, points are distributed to the top 8 drivers in the following manner:

1st: 20
2nd: 15
3rd: 10
4th: 8
5th: 6
6th: 4
7th: 2
8th: 1
9th and lower: 0

In double race weekends, points are awarded in the following manner for the Feature race:

1st: 15
2nd: 12
3rd: 8
4th: 6
5th: 4
6th: 2
7th: 1
8th and lower: 0

For sprint races, they are awarded in the following manner:

1st: 10
2nd: 8
3rd: 5
4th: 4
5th: 3
6th: 2
7th: 1
8th and lower: 0

The fastest lap in a race awards one point in both team and driver championships.

The cars available are:
  • Honda Raybrig NSX Concept-GT ‘16 (Gr.2)
  • Nissan Motul Autech GT-R ‘16 (Gr.2)
  • Lexus au Tom’s RCF ‘16 (Gr.2)
Each car has its own BoP (power and weight) values for balancing.

These values are currently TBD.

Both drivers in a team have to use the same car.

The highest finishing drivers in a race are given extra ballast for their next two race WEEKENDS (not race STARTS, meaning that ballast earned in a Feature race is not used in that same weekend's Sprint race.)

In single-race weekends, ballast is distributed in this way:

1st - 5%
2nd - 4%
3rd - 3%
4th - 2%
5th - 1%

In two-race weekends, ballast is distributed in Feature races this way:

1st - 4%
2nd - 3%
3rd - 2%
4th - 1%

In Sprint races, it is done this way:

1st - 2%
2nd - 1%

During a two-race weekend, the Sprint race begins 10 minutes after the Feature race.

The GT500 Cup is sanctioned by the Sim Racing Federation (SRF), and will use its latest guidebook to set on-track rules. The guidebook is divided into multiple rulesets for different kinds of racing. We will be using the GT ruleset. See the complete guidebook here. The league will also use the SRF driver license system, meaning that drivers will earn or lose points depending on their performance and behavior in a race. Note that the license system is only a metric to measure a driver’s skills and experience in SRF events.

Penalties will be given out by the official SRF Stewards. The penalties a driver may receive include:
  • A time penalty (with a minimum of 5 seconds)
  • A qualifying ban (a driver is not allowed to take place in his/her next round’s qualifying session and will start last)
  • A drive-through penalty (the driver needs to go into the pits without changing tires, refueling, or getting repairs)
  • A disqualification from the race
  • A disqualification from the championship
  • A points deduction
Note: Repeating the same offense will result in harsher penalties.

If a driver is given a qualifying ban to serve in a double-race weekend, he/she will only be forced to start last in said weekend’s Feature race.

Formation Laps:

Before each race, a formation lap is held to give drivers a chance to prepare themselves and their cars for the race. Each circuit is assigned a restart zone, in which the pole sitter decides when to speed up for the race start. The start of the formation lap is in single file, while cars line up in double file in the circuit’s final timing sector. Overtaking is not allowed until the leader crosses the timing line. In the double file, drivers starting in odd numbered positions (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13) will line up on the left of the track, while drivers starting in even numbered positions (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14) will line up on the right.

Full Course Cautions:

If a large, multi-car incident occurs on track, the race director can call for a full course caution if needed. If a driver has major car damage, he/she can type “VD” (vehicle damage) in the in-game chat. If multiple drivers send this message, OR the race director deems an FCC necessary, he will start one by typing “FCC” in the chat. When the message is sent, the race leader must immediately slow down to a maximum speed of 80mph (129km/h). Note that the speed limit only applies to the leader. The rest of the field must then line up behind the leader in a single file. When the race director deems it appropriate for the FCC to end, he will type “Green this lap” in the chat. The field will then continue in a single file until reaching the circuit’s assigned restart zone, in which the leader may decide when to accelerate, like during the start of the race. Overtaking is not allowed until the leader has crossed the timing line.

In the very rare occurrence of a massive server disconnect (in which almost all, if not all drivers are kicked out of the session), a red flag is called. In this situation, the drivers and race director will attempt to restart the race in the running order before the disconnect, and race the remaining laps. The restart is conducted with one formation lap.

  • SRF logo on all 4 corners of the car (can be painted in any color as long as it is clearly visible)
  • Black or white Gran Turismo windshield banner
  • Michelin “Pilot Sport” tire stickers.
Links for the required decals can be found here.

  • Both drivers in a team must use the same livery in overall appearance. However, minor variations between the two drivers’ liveries are allowed.
  • Only minor changes are allowed to a livery during a season.
  • Liveries cannot carry any racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, political, hateful, pornographic or any other inappropriate content.
  • Presenting a livery with pornographic/sexual/NSFW content will result in an instant, permanent ban from the GT500 league and all other Turn One events.
