Ubuntu 11.10---problems solved :)

Hi

I have an Asus 1005PE netbook and have just installed Ubuntu 11.10, after installing, the first problem that i came across is that the netbook speakers just don't sound the same, the volume bar is set to max, but still it's pretty quiet.

The second problem is that only a few of the Hotkeys work, like brightness and sleep mode. How do i re-activate the hotkeys? is this even possible?

These problems are not that serious but i do miss the creature comforts

Hey,
I have a few possible solutions for you:

1) Try to see if there are any proprietory drivers available

2) Try seeing if there is a way to make your speakers louders through the drivers. I am assuming that there are a total of 2 volume settings. One is hte OS volume, one is the actual netbook volume from the motherboard. Also try checking if the music player has its volume down.

3) For brightness and other settings, try changing them through the Ubuntu OS.

4) Try seeing what the hotkeys input to the OS. See if you can make that key a shortcut.

Unity is a great GUI. Try searching screen settings, etc. in that search bar of it.

Thanks for the help, i'll be sure to try these out soon, its weird though, sound through speakers is dim but the sound through earphones when plugged in is fine

I'm not sure if it has been updated, will double check though as my brother was using it yesterday.

The Sound and Brightness hotkeys are now working

I've not done any of the updates yet, and there are no proprietary drivers available.

Still trying to find out if the Sound can be improved, but to be honest i don't mind anymore as I'm always using earphones.
