Video Playback Across Multiple LCD Monitors...

I know there are alot of thread on this around the web but no one can give a clear answer as to whether it can be done or now easily... I have a laptop and an lcd screen which i want to play a video across in one whole piece. Currently if you try to put the media player onto the other screen you get the video on one and a black screen on the other...is there any kind of free software or setting that can allow this or can it simply not be done... The Laptops running nvidia graphics and I have another computer with an ati x550... if you have recommendations for both companies please feel free to give some suggestions.....

have you tried stretching the image of the video instead of putting the media player on the other screen?
