I recently wrote a paper on Pininfarina, and since I've gotten attached to 50s-70s European sportscars. I've always loved my small little British numbers, and have always wanted to own something small, old and problematic, so here's a thread for photos of a couple select cars. I won't throw down in my normal mega upload fashion, but instead I'll do my best to drop a couple at a time.

I know that Cracker, Fangio and the like could contribute with their experience, photos and videos on the subject too. I don't want to set all sorts of rules, but try to keep it pre-1979 and keep in mind we've got Imports and Muscle Car threads.

I'm too lazy to post anymore, but I've managed to post just a few of my favourite classic sportscars.

Sorry about the lull! I totally forgot about this thread. I'll make it to ya's. All on track, where these machines belong:

nice pics! thanks very much.

any of you seen victory by design? well worth a look, it's like a dvd series about classic cars including many of the ones in the pics above.

Not enough Chevrony goodness for my liking (with some McLaren and Lola for good measure)

Is this the MGA LeMans that ran the Mille Miglia recently? (was shown on The Real Italian Job, where James Martin failed epically to complete the course due to his own cockiness :dunce:)

it was! i saw it on telly and checked the reg on my pic, oddly it didnt race at goodwood :odd:

I think the original car was written off at Le Mans, this is a replica. The MGA-Register has some information on this and the other prototypes built at this time. 👍

Ahh, thanks. I did wonder if it was a replica as the value quoted in 'The Real Italian Job' seemed way too little if I remember correctly.

Some absolutely stunning cars in this thread. Fast becoming one of my favourite threads in the forum.

I'd like to add some pictures that I took at a vintage hillclimb last year. There were some very old cars - as early as the 20s, maybe even earlier - but some gorgeous later sports cars like the Lotus Elan, Lotus 23 and MGB in the photos below.

Now a selection of vintage cars. The first two are an Austin Seven-based mid engined racer, some kind of special but not sure if it has a name. The red car is a Fiat, I think, the silver car below that a "Grannie Japanese". The following two I can't identify but probably have other pictures of them:

As for drifting, you aren't trying unless you can drift something built in the 20s or 30s...

It is indeed 👍 A week later there was another hillclimb for modern cars, which was much sunnier too. I like how for a hillclimb, Harewood is 1/3 downhill...

Thanks for the ID on the car. Could well be a Ginetta.

Lola, Lotus, Ferrari and Jaguar. A good mix of the vintage magic (this Ultimatecarpage is great for this kind of stuff). Having spent a little time around these old betties, I think some of these things must just tear your ears in half. I can almost hear some of those flat Ferraris through the screen...

I wouldn't really say that a Baur E21 BMW was a sports car. It isn't particularly vintage either. It's just a regular convertible.

This is a BMW sports car, the 507. Not particularly affordable, but then vintage cars usually aren't anyway:
BMW_507_1956-59_30.jpg

And the SL you picked was the start of a long chain of ones that began getting uglier. The Pagoda SLs are where it's at:

Here's a vintage sportscar my uncle bought a while ago (his is the one in front). It's a 1969 Le Femme Lolita Mk. II. All I can recall is it's powered by a Mini engine and it raced in a support catagory to the Tasman Seriess. I need to get some more information on it because it's an amazing looking car.
