(make sure your sound is on)

The WGBH logo thingy has always freaked me out. It's one of the worst things on earth, but I can't stop watching it. Am I the only one?

Scary? No. Really annoying? Yes. Pretty cheap concept to it as well, I'd hate to know that someone paid big money for someone to create something like that.

It's got a peculiar cross-section thingy going... I don't like it but it's one of those things I'd look at every time I saw it just to understand its creation. It wouldn't do anything for me if it was just printed on screen in its finished format though. It's the fact that its written in front of my eyes that would draw me in. I don't like things like that, as I can hardly help but watch them.

Considering it hasn't changed since the 70s or 80s and WGBH is a public television station, which syndicates a lot of stuff out to PBS nationwide (It is the PBS home station), I doubt they paid a lot of money.

Here, I have never viewed it with sound. While odd, it does not seem very scary, but my little brother finds it very funny with sound. He says, "What an odd soundtrack".

I can see how it is if you are home alone at night, and you turn on the TV to be greeted by the tedious and frantic music of the WGBH.

My little brother can't stop watching it... he also says that it sounds like a computer that has been left on too long and is processing 9,999,999,999,999 exabytes of complicated data. "BZWRPBDFCTEHD!"

He typed that himself...

The THX noise used to scare the crap out of me when I was a kid...

I knew I had seen it somewhere before! I guess I can't really complain then seeing as it was made back when computers were less powerful than my calculator.

The THX noise scared me when I was little, too, and if I had seen the WGBH thing I likely would have been scared by that as well. I think the reason why they're scary is because they're loud and strange, and we're genetically programmed to be frightened by such things (enabling us to run away from a roaring predator without prior knowledge of the actual danger it poses).

Further supporting this idea is the fact that I wasn't scared by the final few seconds of the THX noise, once everything was in tune. Only the first half. YSSMAN might agree.

The dumbest noise I was scared of as a kid? Public toilets with a really loud flush. :ouch:

Yeah, the initial noise was what did me in... Loud, a bit scary. I almost seem to remember being more scared of that when I saw Jurassic Park than the dinosaurs themselves!

:odd: Why does repeat like 10times?
...because that's several of the logos they used? :dopey: Obviously they weren't all playing one after another every time.

If I were younger that may have given me the creeps, but the one that did scare me was the THX one...
