I totally forgot Metallica's S&M2 was released last week so I'm finally going through it. For the first like 15 minutes, you'd think you were listening to the first album. It's really good though and more bands should do collabs with symphonies.

I already had the S&M double dvd set so I bought the new S&M 2 blu ray version and it's a cut above, just awesome 👍.

Also being a fan of these type of collabs there's a few good ones out there. Alter Bridge (feat. The Parallax Orchestra), Heart (with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestral), Hilltop Hoods (Live with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra), Deep Purple (& Orchestra), Collective Soul (with The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra) and Kiss's Symphony are some of my favourites of this type from my collection.... and the two Metallica ones of course :).

I've been listening to a lot of cyber/retro/synth/vapor/sovietwave compilations on YouTube lately.

Been smashing about on wreckfest with my rock playlist blaring seemed appropriate for the game... Im a bit short of rock tracks in my collection there seem to be some aficionados on here... any recommendations of high tempo tracks in a similar vein to these would be much appreciated ;-)

I'd recommend Starseed by Our Lady Peace, and Siva by Smashing Pumpkins.

With Nirvana and Foo Fighters, you're certainly on the right tracks with a number of great tracks from both Nirvana albums Nevermind and In Utero. And to continue the grungy theme, Stone Temple Pilots (STP's Core and Purple are great albums) are worth checking out for similar themed songs. Likewise Alice In Chains with songs like Them Bones. And speaking of Wreckfest, I must look at getting a copy, looks like huge fun. Either way thought I'd make a little list:

Nirvana:
  • Breed
  • Stay Away
  • Very Ape
Foo Fighters
  • Monkey Wrench
  • Breakout
Stone Temple Pilots
  • Naked Sunday
  • Sex Type Thing
  • Unglued
  • Army Ants
----------------------------

Somewhat recently I've been getting into King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard properly, reminding myself of how fantastic a band they are. I'm ashamed if anything that it's taking me up until 18months or so ago, to properly invest myself in their music, especially considering my love for Tame Impala and other associated great Aussie acts like Pond and GUM.

Thanks for your reply my rock collection is anaemic, I grew up on Nirvana and Foo Fighters its hard to find tracks with that kind of energy so i appreciate your suggestions will check them out. As for wreckfest its a gem a lot of fun to be had with it and its dirt cheap too!

With Bob Dylan's Tambourine Man the Byrds made a breakthrough into the electric folk rock genre, and was perhaps also a paean to the developing "hippy" counter-culture and drug culture breaking out in 1965. I remember it well!

In this video, some of the wizardry in the instrumental backing track sessions is heard until about 7:00. The only Byrd allowed on the instrumental track recording was Roger McGuinn on the Rickenbacker 12-string electric guitar. Then we hear the Byrd's vocals recording track. The full mix begins at about 9:00.

This great recording made #1 in both the UK and the US. It remains one the great all-time favorites worldwide.

I'm more than happy to trade favorite Elvis Costello songs with you. When I bought "Punch the Clock" on LP back in 1983 from a small record shop in Banbury in England, I had no idea who Chet Baker was. I've learned a bit in the last 37 years.

My apologies; I completely missed this.

Gotta go with "Watching The Detectives" because of those biting lyrics and that absolute monster of a hook.

Is it Christmas yet? No, but here is a fantastic rock song intended to be played on a typical car radio of the 60's.

How does it sound on modern equipment?

I have been reliving my 90s by playing some Drum n Bass very loudly.
