I'm just wondering what chip is the most like aluminum. I find that a lot of the "silver"s are too dark from a direct angle, and the Peugeot "Gris Aluminum" is too reflective (and still slightly too dark). Does anyone know a chip that simulates it the best?

Have you tried matte silver ;)

I have matte light gray, looks nothing like aluminum.

I'm using Daihatsu "Bright Silver Metallic" at this point.. low cost and I don't have to trade to get them

I tend to use the silver from the premium SLR. Sure, it's expensive, but when you're at the 20mil limit, a couple of hundred grand is a drop in the ocean. >:0)
(I'll send one over in the morning)

Or just slowly dupe your way up to 57 of the SLR paints like i have :D

I don't need a lot I just need the name of one that looks close to aluminum.. no offense but the SLR paint is too dark, still.

Edit: Another one that is close is "Light Silver Metallic" from Audi.. but I don't have many of it.. I never liked silver before but I just need it for rims. Some of the nice rims in the GT Auto come in a more silvery colour than aluminum. Like I'm looking for that REALLY light aluminum look, not so much silver.

Edit2: I'm now looking into maybe Mitsubishi Rotor-Glow Pearl as an alternative..

Edit3: Or maybe Jaguar's Meteorite metallic .... that seems to be the best if not extremely rare.

Actually I saw an Esprit 350 with that New Aluminum Metallic paint yesterday and it's way different than the one off the premium model... I'm thinking that might actually be what I'm looking for. The dealership one has this weird pinkish orange colour in it that looks terrible.

I have not tried the New Aluminum Metallic on wheels yet, but it has a good chance of being what you are looking for. I'll send you one tonight if you want to send me a FR.

I didn't see Matte Light Silver mentioned yet. That should be better than Matte Silver.

I'm actually going to run some tests.. backing up data and then reloading it to gain the chips, taking a picture each time. So I'll have some comparative rim images soon with each of these chips.

Edit:

(1mb Image!)

It's still tough to decide lol.... I think the the toyota silver metallic is pretty close. (If you're wondering about the dodge silvers I threw in, it's to have something to compare the rest to).

Scrolling back to the Ferrari though and looking at the pics I took.. none of the colours I chose are still "bright" enough. The rims on that Ferrari are almost white. Even matte light silver has a "light grey" attribute to it instead of a whiter hue. So yeah the matte light silver is probably the best from all angles but it's not metallic unfortunately.. (Hmm it is nice though for the highlights.. I might not have any other option)

I may snap some more photos of toyota's silver mica metallic and see if they extra mica makes the car lighter than the plain silver metallic..

Does anyone else have some suggestions while my tripod is still set up?

Taking the hue into consideration, I found the lightest chips I tested and went up into the white category of paints and I found what I was looking for I think. It's an Opel colour called "Silber"..

Post a pic of it when your done.

I use New Aluminum Metallic, I believe it is a Mazda color but have only gotten it with the random paint gifts.

There is a silver that the mercedes c63 comes in that looks pretty close to raw metal. I Forget what it's called though so can someone help me out with the name?

Okay well to explain a little bit.. I was actually basing what I was looking for off the pic I had posted of the Ferrari 612 (Which is why I still might end up going with toyota silver metallic btw) but I did a little research and Ferrari uses Magnesium alloys (Something I actually just learned) to make the rims lighter weight. However, there's still a lot of aluminum in the rims and forged, brushed aluminum has a nice bright colour to it. Anyways I added the Opel "Silber" as #14.. you can see it's almost the same hue as the Matte Light Silver, but metallic. The toyota silver is still lighter than that though.. I might try a few more but I have disassembled my tripod for the time being.
