Home James, and don't spare the horses. But mind you don't upset the pile of 4x2 in the back.

This is the Transit XXL, and while we'd like to imagine it would help the jobbing builder carry all their supplies, it's only really designed for carrying people. It's probably just the thing for a night out in Romford.

The XXL is a one-off special built to celebrate the Transit's status as International Van of the Year 2007. It's made from two standard short-wheelbase Transits stuck together, in one of the world's neatest cut-and-shut jobs.

Despite the stretch, the 7.4m-long XXL has room for only seven passengers (and their luggage). We assume the legroom is unsurpassed. Power comes from a standard 2.2-litre diesel engine.

Unfortunately, the Transit XXL will remain rarer than a Rolls-Royce Phantom LWB – Ford's only building one of them.

I dont understand why manufacturers put so much money into projects that will never be put in production :indiff:

Quite cool though.

That is the wonders of concept cars or one off's.

Yeah concept cars IMO are different as one off cars are sought after, but a transit van??

Remember the Transit with the XJ220 engine and transmission.

Yeah but those vans are custom built, with powerfull engines to show it can be done, this one is just a longer one, for no apparent reason, has same engine, same looks, same hubcaps

Transits are pretty fast I will let you know. Its sure a hell of alot better than those bloody citroen van.

It doesn't say otherwise, so I'm assuming there's a hot-tub and a proper bar in there as well as plenty of headroom. Think of it as a tall limousine on the inside as opposed to a minibus with ten feet of legroom for each seat.

Transits are not too shabby - drove a 2.2 luton 165 miles from Devon to Hampshire in under 3 hours once, but the VW transporter beats it. Lets just say my brother in his pimped out Renault 19 couldnt keep up with me in a fully laden VW van. No wonder Jeremy Clarkson described it as a van GTI.
