Who here doesn't like the camera angles in GT4 and GT5??

I only use the chase cam when I am flying my Spitfire in IL 2 Sturmovik:lol:

I also use it when viedotaping an online race to show as many cars as possible, and help get through that first corner maelstrom :)

I love Sturmovik (THE PC VERSION IS THE ONLY GOOD ONE)! I've got 1946, with every MOD, from All Aircraft Arcade.com. At least, I used to play it then I got my ps3 a wheel and GT5P, good game IL2, good game. Anyways this was completely off topic (my post). :P

For me, the saving grace for not having interior views for standard cars would be a proper hood cam. The hood cam in GT5 is way too high and looks down on the hood or is actually a roof cam. Even Grand Theft Auto IV had a better hood cam than GT5.

If PD got the hood cam right, then GT5 would be 99% perfect for me.

The current build hood cam looks the same as Shift, RFactor and a bunch of other games.

old build, Prologue'ish - roof cam

new build bonnet cam - the camera is set at head height in front of the windscreen

This is a hood cam

^ the current hood cam it's a roof cam and when you try a car with an high roof like for example the wrc c4( watch toscana videos) you don't even see the hood.

The camera position is changed between different cars, but for your regular cars it's your basic hood cam

^I'm liking the new hood cam. I can't wait to see the older vettes hood cam. That Merc's hood looks like the old stingray hood in the middle. I don't think I will miss all those standards cockpits as much with a decent hood cam :)

A fully adjustable free floating camera view would solve everything for everyone, but for some reason, on consoles, Devs think too much control is a bad thing.....

LFS is the only game, on the PC, that will allow you to put the camera anywhere you want in three dimensions. And you can elect to remove car body or not, and same for the road wheels. You can for instance remove the body, but leave the wheels.

And also be able to change your Field of View as you like

I used to use bumper cam, but since getting my DF GT and hooking it up, im finding the cockpit view to be much better for me?!

Viewing is limited but its nice to see the steering wheel move onscreen when i move mine!

Me personally like the Replay roofcam way more than the gameplay one...
here an example

Gameplay you see just a little part of the car because its set up on the front roof.

And here Replay , you see more of the car , just much more enjoyable to me feels just better.

I'd love this view for standart cars , gives the car more personality while driving. Since we have no Cockpit.

I have always liked the camera angle in the Gran Turismo Franchise, although since I got my wheel around 2006, its been bumper-cam all the time, it's kind of hard to not get that view right.

damn, that video was removed. :( oh well...no biggy. i do like the camera angle in gt5 but i do think they need 2 exterior camera angles...one with the locked cam u guys talk about and one with the free floating camera behind the car. i hope to see 2 camera angles in the third person mode in gt5 but we'll see.........

That GT4 view is only available in replays (And I hate that view too). The chase cam in-game is the lower down view that you see him flick past at the start of the video.

As someone who uses the chase cam in GT4, I would not be happy if it changed to the non-static view, simply because it effects your judgement of the cars trajectory through the corner, so it would take some getting used to. Hopefully they will include both (Set camera static/moveable in the options menu maybe?). They already have both views as can be seen from the various demos we have seen.

The one used in the Time Trial demo is the latest i've used, and I thought that was perfectly fine.
A.b.S.o.L.u.T.e.L.y !! 👍 I fully support that statement. But to be fair with everyone, yes there should be more views... the more the better... Having tried the Demo yesterday, i didn't see any other view during race that is different from GT5-P... :guilty: :ill:
But Replay views as two additional view (two in-car on-board camera looking at the pilot)

In GT5-P, it is the roof cam... there is no hood cam.
It looks to me from the Demo, that we have the same story...
... unless PD decides to implement a proper hood cam before the game releases... 👍 we can only hope.

Yep, I hate the ridged cam too.

Lets just hope they make two 3rd person cams: ridged and 'loose'
I hope for you... From the Demo, it looks still rigged ;)

So wait.. was the new demo a hood cam? too excited to believe it!
Let me check it tonight...

Hope... but expect the worse...
for me i am ok with the fixed/locked/rigged cam.

Same, I just don't like it whenever we press the start button and then just quits the replay.

Following GT games that does that:

GT4 and GT5 Prologue.
Why is that Kaz does not allow us to pause our replay... I hate :yuck: that too.....

I cant stand bumber view....
...I hate it so much. I cant feel the car at all. Hood or cockpit view is best for me. (also hate chasecam.)

Its rather hard to judge. Bumper cam removes any sense of how wide or long the machine you're in is. While it is the camera I use commonly (for GT4 to GT2), I love the cockpit camera. All I use in GT5P. It makes judgments so much easier. While the hood cam isn't as great, its the next best thing. Hell of a lot better than bumper.

you guys hate bumper view but spare a though for people like me who are forced to use it.

I would love to be able to use cockpit view, my ideal view, but because the steering angle animations in the cockpit is totally different to the actual rotation of my sim wheel i'm turning, it really puts me off.. kind of like imgine turning left and seeing the wheel go right, thats how it feels to me.

This is a thing that could be reviewed. In a 180° turn, the driver only turn the wheel in 90°. It's weird, right?

Yes! But its worse than that , not only does the in game driver turn the wheel to a maximum of about 90°, but when you turn your sim wheel actual 90°, the in game driver only turns the wheel say 50°, never as much as you actually turn the wheel.
It's very weird and off putting.

Also even though the in-game cockpit driver turns the wheel inaccurately, you can clearly see in the outside view the wheels are responding perfectly all the way up to 900 degree rotation, and the physics engine responds to it perfectly as well.

What is even more annoying is we know they had it working right in the gt5p beta.

go to about 1 min onward.

I don't think it looks awkward at all. In fact if you look at someones hands when they are frantically trying to control a car with a wheel it is as awkward as these youtube vidoes. They had it spot on the first time around.

I feel your pain. My two problems with in-cockpit view are having an animated wheel+arms and in some cars it feels like I am sitting in the back seat!

I think it would be fab to have a "Dashboard" view. Move the ini-cockpit view a little closer to the windshield and remove the wheel+arms animation. It would even be better if one could "adjust the forward/back seat position" (simbin has had this option since at least 2005 for in-cockpit view).

A bonnet cam would be nice. I sometimes use the bumper cam depending on the car.

I find it hard to migrate away from bumper since It was the best option for realism in GT1-3 IIRC. I think I'll make an effort to switch to cabin for premiums and bonnet for standards. The problem I have with cabin in GT5:P is I miss the gagues and can't usually make out the ones on the dash for them to be peripherial... I need my analogue tacho for some reason, the digital one just doesn't catch my eye and unlike in RL it's hard to go off sound since the sounds aren't real enough :P

Id love to try cabin as well but as outlined above, cannot realistically do it for long.

I feel exactly what you mean man. I also need a rotating analogue tacho for my brain to feel in touch with it nicely in my peripheral.

The digital ones that just statically fill up a bars I can never feel what they are doing, they feel detached from the car.

And sorry to have to inform you looks like theirs no bonnet cam in gt5, not that ive seen. Only the roof cam stuff. Reminds me of a french police chase film lol.
