Why does everyone compare GT3 to another racing game?

I wondering this myself. And I really wanna know the reason why everyone compares GT3 to another racing game.

Because the Gran Turismo Series has become the benchmark for console simulation racing.

And probably because this is a site based around the Gran Turismo series, so it's a bit obvious that you might see some comparisons.

But the latest ive seen is a comparison to NFS: Underground. I think thats the worse comparison yet.

True, but they can still be compared as they do have some simmilar elements to them. It all depends on your taste I suppose. I mean you see people comparing GT3 to PGR2, which is a semi-sim game.

PGR2 is on a totally different system. I mean, if you are gonna compare GT3 to something, compare it to GT2. There, best comparison yet.

I mean you can compare different elements of each game like.

Handling (physics)
Car selection
Car tuning
Race modes
Tracks
etc

So it's not impossible.

Another game that is very simmilar to GT is Sega GT2002.

Yeah but Sega GT2002 has horrible physics, when you barely go to turn the car shoots to the right or left. The only thing it has in common is the sim mode, that's it.

Hey, if everyone is gonna compare. Then I am. Yes. Thats why I was comparing SegaGT2002 to GT3, cause of the sim mode. Does the NFS series have a simulation mode. The answer is NO.

I was going to say that. It's like when people judge music writers to Mozart, Eddie Van halen for guitarists. He was the best to compare to, just like GT is the one to compare to for racing games.

I do think that GT3 is a great benchmark to compare to, especially when you consider the amount of effort that was put into it. I'm sorry for all the Xbox-ers out there, but NO Xbox game out there can compare. The shear size of GT3 will dwarf any of the efforts made by Microsoft. And you can compare GT3 to anything on the market present or past, including it's predecessors, like GT2. There is no reason why you can't compare them, they are games.

I think F355 in the Arcade is a better game than GT3 for several reasons...

Better physics (but then again they had to do the physics for ONE car)
Better AI
Graphics aren't on par with GT3, but they are very nice for being based on the Dreamcast hardware.
A clutch and 6 speed manual tranny

True, the F355 is the benchmark for Arcade simulation. Although you can't really get a clutch 6-speed and a manaual gearbox for your ps2. Mind you the PS2 version is meant to be fantastic with the wheel, I think that would be one of the first games i'd buy if I got a wheel.

I mean GT3 may not be the best simulation , but as an overall package (Cars, tracks, tuning, graphics and gamestructure) it does outshine most titles. Yes the AI are dumb as **** and the later stages of the game do get a tad boring, but it's amazing how many people are still playing GT3 and this is a game that is almost 3 years old now.

also, its only natural to compare like with like..

the only game imo thats better than GT3 is Project Gotham Racing II for the XBOX....but then your comparing a game thats 3 years old with a game thats only a couple of months old...so in relative terms, GT3 is the best...
