I'm doing a survey and I'm trying to find out how much it costs in various countries and continents to operate a car for a year.I'm mostly interested to know what amount of money you pay for taxes ,road use, insurance and not so much about the price of gas in your country and depreciation etc.Thank you all for your help 👍

$1134 per year in petrol cost
$660 per year in insurance for both my vehicles
$58.50 per year in registration (times 2 since I own 2 vehicles myself not including the wife's)
$40 per year in inspection cost (times 2)
$85 per year in oil changes, coolant flush and windscreen washer fluid
$150 per year for car washes
-------------
$2226.00 USD total per year not including any mechanical repairs or tires.

Is that what you're after?

Yes this exactly what I'm after, thanks.I see that you don't pay much for road taxes or registration etc. Here in Greece pe I have to pay for my 4.0 lt Jeep TJ 1200 Euro per year just for the road tax, plus for the next 4 years, due to the financial situation here in Greece,600 Euro per year as an extra tax due to high cc.Unbelievable, but true...Please give me more feedback people

£1400 a year petrol (10k miles a year)
£165 a year road tax
£300 a year insurance
£200 a year servicing
£50 a year MOT (roadworthiness test)

Total: £2115

That's for a 1400cc Fiat Panda.

For my 1994 Accord VTi

Fuel: AU$550
Insurance: AU$787
Registration (+ CTP): AU$616
General maintenance/cleaning: unknown (I've only had the car for 3 months and the next service isn't due for another 1000km. I've spent AU$20 on an automatic car wash once but I mostly wash it myself).

Total: AU$1973

96 BMW 328i Sport Coupe

The Basics:
£215 Road Tax
£45 MOT
£1700 Petrol (based on 6000 miles and the cars recorded average of 21 mpg)
£890 Insurance

Others:
A pair of tyres is around £200 for lower end ones I'll normally get through at least one pair a year, be it front or back.
Servicing depends on the type, but an Oil Service is £95, Inspection I is £195, Inspection II is £265
Putting things right for the MOT, and other general repairs ~ £200

I would expect to have spent over £3500 throughout 2011.

Ok,

$1000 per year in insurance
$58 per year in registration(Ford F150, cars are less)
$60 for inspection

I did not include maintenance/fuel costs.
I also did not include road tolls because for the most part I can travel a lot without paying any tolls.

£1000 a year petrol
£135 a year road tax
£440 a year insurance
£50 a year servicing
£45 a year MOT (roadworthiness test)

Total: £1670

That's for a 21 year old, 4 years no claims in a '99 Nissan Almera 1.4l

That is a lot of money for insurance,is that number correct ?

Yes he is correct, typical drivers under 21 years old in a new vehicle are generally under $1000 per 6 months. I am 28 years old and pay $960 year on a '10 Corolla. Which seems like a great savings for me.

Gas $2000
Ins $960
Service $320
Registration $130 - incl. city sticker and plates in state of ILLINOIS
Not sure about Road taxes?? I think its all bundled into our city, state and federal taxes.

Can you please clear this out for me.I mean if someone doesn't have a car, does he pays less city, state and federal taxes than someone who has?

No if you are a resident of the US you pay taxes which include road taxes wether or not you own a car. The state of ILLINOIS makes a big profit off of $100 registration fee (for those who own a car) and the same with the city sticker at $30 (only for those with a car). Thats why so many people in the states complain about taxes, lots of us get taxed for things we don't even use or have an interest in. Also to compensate for these expense they keep raising taxes yearly. Example they just added a conjestion fee to Chicago residents for everyone driving on Lake Shore Drive (not a toll road - just added to your taxes in January).

$1500 in gas/year (based on 12,000 miles...only driven 8,000 on my own car this year)
$800 insurance/year
$200 maintenance, wipers (figure on one tire a year, average)
$50 in tolls
$50 registration, plate
$50 car washing supplies, water use, and miscellaneous accessories/crap.
$100 potential parking/speeding ticket fund.

Offset that by my company reimbursing me most of my work mileage, roughly half my tolls.

These numbers are one the high side of my internal guestimation, to be sure.

$5,000 insurance per year :nervous:
$700 in gas per year
$80 in registration per year
~$400 in various small repairs/replacements (so far)

I've only had my car 8 months so everything but the insurance (which is fixed) has been extrapolated out to 12 months as best I can guess it.

I drive a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville

2000 Subaru Outback (I'm 18)
$3000/yr gas (US)
$1200/yr insurance (US)
~$250 for registration/maintenance (US)

*Jeez, I'm spending alot on gas. See random facts thread for explanation. lol

1998 Toyota Celica GT

Fuel: $1764 (12K annually @ $3.75 a gallon)
Insurance: $1368
Oil: $70 (mix of DIY when warm and service when cold)
Licence/Registration: $110
Maint/Misc: $300 (just in case, already used for tires this year)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
TOTAL: $3612

When you, like me, are driving Alfa Romeo, you don't really keep score ... :sly:

But in Denmark we pay a 180% registration when buying a car, so that a car that costs € 28.800 in Germany is € 60.300 in Denmark :grumpy:

A litre petrol is around € 1,65
My Insurance is around € 1.000 a year
and the road tax is about the same ...

Wow!!!The road tax is 1000 € also??How much is a typical salary in Denmark?

1.8 97 Escort estate
£215 road tax
£620 insurance
£50 MOT
£60 service
£1500 petrol (at a guess, do about 10k a year, roughly 350 miles to a tank)
=£2445 a year - 24p a mile!

89 V6 Firebird
£215 tax
£50 MOT
£60 service
£450 insurance
£400 petrol (thereabouts, limited to 1500 miles per year, mpg wildly varies 10-30)
=£1175 - 78p a mile!

Generally I factor in 4k for cars, the firebird sails through without problem but the more modern motors I have tend to have a few issues every year, £300 on the escort this year, and the Astra I had until june needed new exhaust, rear springs and some other bits which came to £700. Of course there is also extra treats, I like to buy ebay set of rims with good rubber instead of replacing worn tires at £100+ a corner, so there was a £200 set of weld pro stars and I bought a £300 fibreglass hood this year too :D

The road tax depends on the car's fuel consumption - and my Alfa is hungry :dopey:

The avarage income in 2009 was around 38.000 € - I had to look that one up :sly: But we pay around 50% in income tax too :grumpy:

My and my parents (I share car). A Proton Persona...

MYR5200 a year on Petrol.
MYR500 on road tax a year.
MYR312 on car wash (sometimes I wash it on my own).
MYR1000 a year on maintainance on small maintainance.
MYR300 already on traffic summon.

Total: MYR7312 approximately.

Now recently my car's steering ring or something is getting stiff so it's been recently making an annoying squeaking sound when turning. Proton quoted my parent that it will be fixed for MYR200... Still, this car is much better than my parent's Opel Zafira that costed a lot of problems and resulted us in spending MYR1000 a month on maintainance. Yikes!

EDIT:

Just earlier this year we spent another MYR150 when my dad accidentally clip a divider when turning and snap the whole side skirting of the car. No damage done to the main body, so just require a brand new side skirt.

Two weeks ago, my dad sent the car for an alignment, another MYR150 approximately.

In the end, the grand total would be MYR7812 appproximately.

If I would happen to live in Zagreb (capitol) I would pay double for insurance and some more for other costs, it would be about 1000EUR for a 55hp car.

Average monthly salary in Croatia is 400 EUR.
