You ever got "owned"?

Took my Amuse S2000 R1 ,my favourite, to tuners races in professional series. Had a good field, including the HPA Motorsports R32, and was in for a 132 a-spec race. Did a good race, knocking off competition at the corners and going for a smooth win, but suddenly the HPA seemed to inherit some extra power, and at the last long straight towards the finishline, he beat me with 0.022s.
I felt so "owned" I could cry.

How about you guys (and girls...). You ever got "owned"?

Nope!:sly:
Actually there was a race I was in one time where the car behind me passed me on the strait! I ground him into the wall but he still passed me. Then I tried again and won by three or so seconds.:)

Happens to me quite often in 200pts races. The AI would drive slow at the begining of the race and turn some super fast laps at the end

I don't see this. I don't see any real rubber band efect with the AI in GT4. Has this been proven? It should show lap times. I personally havent seen any lap times to indicate this.

and as for when do I get owned? Every time I try mission 34...
I've also been bumped by the AI at high speed causing a spin out making me to lose the gran turismo championships by 2 points (first time I tried it, second time I won by over 30 points or so). This was on La Sarthe the last race of 10...

Once I was doing a 123 point race with my Subaru on the Subaru Champion. I was driving on the Suzuka race circuit and was leading, then on the last lap. On the long straight road, i was passed by two cars at the SAME time!! I then went to the left side of the road and started braking for the turn in front, then suddenly, one of the cars hit me in the back right bumper area, and I started to spin because I was braking at that time(weight transfer to front...)Then I spinned onto grass and died.

ok, the died part wasn't true but I was pissed cause that was the third race out of five for that champion and I forgot to SAVE!!!:grumpy:

hmmm at first but i got better and then tore the AI apart bolt by bolt.... cause i saw where i went wromg with each race and fixed it and found what went wrong with the car

There is a big variation in AI lap times due to tyre condition. The AI will dramatically improve their lap times when their tyres are warm and they will also often run one lap too many and have a very slow lap on red tyres. Their out laps on blue tyres also tend to be very slow.

On top of that the AI are almost always able to run laps significantly quicker than their practise laps. If you can only barely qualify in 1st place in a longer race then chances are you are going to lose as the AI will find another 2-3 seconds a lap on top of their best practise/qualifying lap.

you know the very exact thing happened to me on another car and track. He beat me by 0.015 or something

Still, that's not true rubberbanding like in other games which gives an artificial boost to the AI or player when they are far behind. That's just normal tire physics no?

Oh and yea I definitely notice they run slower on practice. I never bothered winning pole until the GTC. I went into GTC with a car I was not familiar with yet and not really practicing on the tracks. I went into the practice laps first and doing better times then the AI I thought I would do fine for the main event. Well the AI is ALOT better in the GTC race then practice. It's also better in the GTC then all the other races I was used to before. I got spanked bad. Some races like hong kong fooey I just quit after the 3rd lap knowing I had no chance of winning.

I also got really hard competition. In my winning GTC run I had a minolta and 2 R89c's and a Sauber mercedes. It's really hard getting past those 3 top cars when they stay so tight and faster then you on straights. I also notice the nissans race REALLY aggressive. I got bumped and taken out on several occasions. You can see in the replay they would often do that police take out move, their front quarter hits your rear quarter causing you to spin at those crazy speeds and R1 tires.

I have...

I remember taking a ridiculously quick car around a track because I was fed up of losing all the time. I was killing the competition, and I still lost because I went onto the grass and spun...

maybe the superfast car was behind slower cars at the start.

By 'owned' you mean losing a race by less than a tenth of a second after being overtaken on the run to the line?

I don't remember if that happened to me or not. So I think the answer is no.

Dodzzz

I haven't noticed any rubberbanding as was described but Dodzzz point is one I see often. Many times you will see a faster car who's idiot AI can't get ahead of another AI car for a while. Once the faster car gets open road, they skyrocket ahead. If you watch the AI and they are behind you, you will often see a faster car go slow because they are very cautious about passing. Once they hit open road though they zoom ahead. Same goes for B-spec. I've been burned on this on several occasions thinking I was in a good running then the faster car gets ahead and just zipps ahead. The worst is when the car is absurdly faster then the others to where they can be a 1/4 lap faster then everyone else. It's one thing I really do not like about GT4 is you often get this 1 AI car that greatly outclasses the field. I feel like a GT driver in those mixed GT+LMP races.

I don't remember what race series I was in, but I remember being at Seattle (normal) comming up to jog before the last straight to the finishline (by the pit area). I decided to try to fly through it because the 2nd place guy was pretty close. Usualy I break a little to keep the car from sliding to much.

Well the back end of the car slid out, clipped the wall and spun me 180 facing the second place car.:irked: He clipped me, spinning me the opposite direction only to be tagged by the 3rd and forth place cars. 🤬 The fifth place car only nudged me as he passed on my. Thinking that I was now in last place I crept into the "flow" of traffic to be sideswiped by the 6th place car,:ouch: which spun me back to facing the opposite direction again. :boggled:  :odd: :grumpy:

At that point I knew that it was over, so I put the car in reverse, and drove over the line backwards. over 10 seconds behind the 1st place driver.

So yes . . .I have been owned.

One thing that happened to me was that I did the race with:
Lotus Espirit HC
Fuji Speedway '90
Difficulty 10 or 9

The Ford GT won the race by 1 second in a 43 laps race. It should be won by a larger gap, but it was 5th in the grid, while i was 6th. You know that in start we always get a little advantage, so I became 1st and the FGT 6th.

It took exactly 43 laps to the Ford reach me.

One second. Damn! And that was one of the cleanest races i've did.

I have lost a few races in the DTM on R3(medium) tires because I got careless, so yeah :(
To me, losing any race that easy is getting quite owned. 👎

I was running the Mazda MX-5 only series (whatever it's really called) in a stock second hand model - 130 points or so - and getting owned in the long straight on Tokyo 246. So I picked up a racing chip and sports exhaust just to get a little more power and give me a shot at it. Came into the final straight with about a 1.5 second lead, just as I came to the finish line the second place guy came up behind me running a good 20mph faster, bumped me out of the way and won by 0.09 secs. Gutted...
