GT5 Release Date Announcement Coming Before End of October

Fans are still feeling the sting from Gran Turismo 5’s postponed November release date, but hopefully we won’t have to wait too much longer to find out the game’s new date according to this tweet by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe:

Yes, the GT5 European has also been delayed, we are sorry to say. We expect to confirm a new release date before the end of the month.

Of course, considering the “holiday season” was mentioned as a release target in their original announcement, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise but hopefully will help calm the fears of concerned fans.

I don’t understand why Sony and Polyphony don’t show more respect to the fans. I have allready pre-order the Collector Edition… maybe I should have done it differently and buy it right at the store the 2nd of November. OH WAIT ! There is not release date yet and we are November first !…. -_-

  2. Hypergolem

Sony and Polyphony made us reach that level where we are anxiously waiting for a release date… I don’t know if I’m more pathetic or them…

  3. madaz75

It’s 11pm on Sun 31st Oct 2010 (In Australia), and no announcement on the revised release date of GT5 As expected Sony Disappoints.

  4. jakeBG19

October 29th,last day of the work week,3:52pm and still nothing,i don’t know why I’m annoyed at this as i should have expected it.

  5. OmegaAbyss

Have any of you whiners bothered to look at a copy of Forza lately? It’s complete crap compared to GT! I’m sure Kazzy will have it out before Christmas

    1. NA

I have to wonder why someone has to bring up how crappy Forza is every time something “goes wrong” with GT5’s development. Certainly, if it’s such crap, and not worthy competition, then it’s not worth mentioning either.

    1. BWX

“It could just be a marketing stunt and the game will release november 2nd? lol”
I wish, but not a chance in Hell.

  6. Joe J

That is it. Pre-order cancelled. I don’t even want the game any more. I’m so tired of this, why should I give my money to them?

Next release date will be dd/mm/2011 no doubt.

    1. The_Rpg_Moogle

I don’t get all the whining, I mean, step into the footsteps of Blizzard gamers, jeez those games get delayed time after time after time after time, any idea how long people had to wait for Starcraft II?

No, in terms of delaying, Blizzard is still king (together with the Duke’s 3DRealms of course)

Stop complaining you whining Emo’s, go buy a 360 with the whole Halo shizznizz to keep you occupied!!!

    2. The_Rpg_Moogle

Or if you really want to go whining and complaining and trolling and flaming all day…

Well Runescape might be the best option…

    3. AudioProject

Nah, see the thing is, blizzard doesn’t announce release dates. Yes they announce their games like 3-4 years in advance but after that they just leave it alone and show you teasers while letting you know the game wont be released until its quality is assured. I wouldn’t have minded that for GT5. But what we have in this situation is a bunch of disappointments because of release date delays and similar statements from kaz that led people to believe that the game was almost done a long time ago. All I’m really saying is don’t call the family to dinner unless the meal is actually done.

    4. Yaycandy69

its ok there just gonna push the game off until holiday season 2012. wait so long for the game. play it for 2days then the world blows up.

  7. m0j0

now i`m no expert when it comes to releasing games but:

A game has been finished, its stuffed onto a disk together with all its menu`s.

then i suppose they will test that disk for at least a month or so to try and find every single problem, and fix that before the game goes gold.

then the game is gold, the master copy is shipped to the blueray disk burner/writer/printer or what ever you call `m, and they make sure that there are enough copies to go around.

then those disk are combined with the several packages/editions, those are packed onto pallets, and they are shipped to the several different continents, starting with the USA.

THIS… has got to happen at least 3 weeks before release (concidering printing times of disks, packing times, shipping times etc etc).

So the only reason i can think of why they delayed the game is to try and gain some more money from the game being sold during the holiday season.

Well here is a headsup for Sony.

Gran Turismo fans will buy the game in.. March, June, September, February, when ever.. they will not wait to buy it during Holiday Purchases, nor will they wait for their Mom,Friends,Family,Spouse,Life Partner to buy it for them.

So that makes it one #@%@#^$!#$^5ed up reason to delay GT5.

If money is not the reason, and the real reason is the game is not finished, imho this means they need to look for new leadership at Polyphony

  8. gunma36

I think it’s time to release a demo, at least fans would get their hands onto something…maybe with next PSN update next week.

  9. Sprite

Kaz tweeted a bit earlier saying sorry for delay, and he needed to calm the system. Apart from the poor translation it seems our ever over critical Kaz is still not ready to loose the dogs of war.

    1. James

      Here is the tweet:延期しちゃってごめん。複雑なシステムを落ち着かせるのに手間がかかったせいです。ほんとごめんね。みんな、すまない・・・。ちょっとまってて。
Translation:I am sorry to postpone it. It is the result that took effort to calm a complicated system. Really I’m sorry. All, sorry … I wait a minute.

To calm a complicated system?Maybe talking about a bug?I have no clue what that means.

    2. Sprite

Yeh James that’s the tweet. It’s a shame about the delay. I purchased a new TV, PS3 and booked two weeks from work to play GT5. But I don’t get the moaners. It’s delayed, nothing people say will change this fact. Just need to wait a bit longer that’s all.

  10. BWX

New Years Eve is “Holiday season”… Jan 2011 is “Holiday season”…

Why are any of you believing ANYTHING SONY says at all anyway? Do you think they have serious issues with the truth or not? If not, you are gullible, naive, and slow. If yes, then why even talk about anything they say? They are liars, Get it through your head, You cannot trust ANYTHING they say, so why speculate based on anything you hear originating from them?? It just makes you look foolish..

Wake up and smell the sunshine Mr. Freeman.

  11. MSH

That they come this late with this news means to me that we’re not seeing this game in 2010. Even if they say ‘this holiday season’.

  12. superb16

I have no problems with them delaying it to fix bugs or glitches. Trust me, you guys don’t want this turning out like ‘F1 2010’. Half of that game is unplayable.

The question shouldn’t be “Why the delay?”

The question should be “Why did the give us a date in the first place?”

    1. DarthTurismo

exactly!!! the game should be cleared of bugs prior to actually announcing a release date… otherwise that is just pure incompetence…..

  13. Sigmaviper11

The most hilarious outcome for this:

    PD- We need more time!

    Sony- Gran Turismo delayed.

    PD- K we fixed it!

Sony- No, No! Nvm it’ll only be a week late!

    Fans- WTF!?

    1. James

I sincerely hope that is how this turns out. That would be awesome.A couple weeks late i’m not going to be as mad as i would be if they said you have to wait until next year.

    2. James

I never said a week i said a couple of weeks.I never said it was coming in a couple weeks either.I was simply alluding to the guy above me’s mock scenario and stating that i would be happier if his scenario did in fact play out the way he stated versus them delaying in until next year.

  14. kyleh613

Everyone who thinks that GT5 is getting extra content is stupid. Nothing new is being added to the game at this point. That is not how software development works. The game is being delayed (and this is just an educated guess) almost certainly because a very serious issue was found within the last couple of days and they were forced to delay. This is a really bad sign for GT5 and the quality of the game is in question at this point. I’m seriously considering canceling my pre-order because of this and at this point I don’t know if I should expect a good game or not.

It is for sure not being delayed because Sony thought they could make more money. Lets look at the facts to figure out why that is; For one they already had a launch party planned, they were ready to start letting gaming sites review it, they had tv spots lined up in north america for october, they had tv spots going in Japan already, they had contests, a strategy guide ready to go, etc. Everything was done.

So yeah, the game was delayed because a very serious, severe issue cropped up at the last minute that prevented PD and Sony from sending off a Gold Mastered disc to their pressing facility to start making copies of the game. GT5 in its current state, is almost certainly unplayable and 3 weeks before release, that is very bad.

    1. Sigmaviper11

What you said makes a lot of sense. i can only hope that this put them on point and once they fix the issue they spend time testing and bug hunting. I think maybe Kaz got so enthusiastic with all these new features, he forgot what happened with GT2.

    2. kyleh613

I’m not familiar with GT2’s development issues. Could you explain a bit more with what happened with that game?

  15. BWX

    “We hate cars, we hate cars, F – F – F —- F – YOOOOOOOUUUUUUU!!!!!

“We love 3DTV – we love 3DTV — GT5 fans can go pound saaaaaaalt!!!!

  16. dalejrfanfreak

cancelled my pre-order for the collector’s edition today and got Borderlands with the money. This is betrayal.

  17. blackzc

Since the first delay was for russia only THEN everyone else, it makes me think there was a pressing problem or late bug that was found. Im very upset. But thats what i get for leaving my soul exisistence up to a video game.

  18. James

The only thing to me that could justify a delay is Porsche getting in on the action. If that happened which i don’t think is likely i would be willing to wait a few more months.

  19. Yui-San

According to a Taiwanese gaming website, the release date of GT5 in japan will be December, 2010

    take a look herhttp://www.catchplay.com/tw/?pg=games_db_item&id=426e

  20. Accelerate

I’m now going to buy Forza 3 Ultimate Edition, just to pass the time… AND this delay gives me more time to save for a wheel for the PS3. Ah, this game better be worth it.

  21. syu

Got to blame that damn 3d feature and move. Well what sucks is it will still be 200 premium cars only. Well see you next year I’m sure it will be next year late January for them to make a profit and Sony will now lose this December without any exclusives this November to December. And by that time we shall see a teaser of Forza 4 and Ps4 teaser , Gt5 is a joke a racing game which took 6 years.

  22. syu

And what sucks it is still 200 premium cars only this delay is something to do with that damn 3D feature. Well see you next year late January Gt5

  23. bucketseat

I pre-ordered in January expecting the February release. Let that hang until July when I upped it for the collector’s edition.
Really disappointed and would like to have an explanation; Sony won’t be exposing PD’s reason for failure to make the commitment for Nov. Just some some euphemistic self-aggrandizing platitudes as an excuse for incompetence.
PD & Sony need to ‘get off the pot’ and deliver on their commitments.

  24. MGS2

This honestly makes me want to cancel Pre-order.
I am simply sick of all this.
Might Pre-order Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood instead.

  25. IVKillerVI

We dont know how long the delay will be, or what caused it. For all we know there could have been some problem that only affects certain countries, no matter how unlikely that is. The delay could only be a week or 2 or even a couple months, we just don’t know right now.
I know that Dirt2 was delayed only 3 weeks before realease and was put out only 2 weeks late, I’ve also seen games get delays at the last minute and not come out for months after the original date.
Anything could happen and anyone who thinks they know for sure what has/will happen is an idiot.

  26. yomamma

ok that’s it. i’m not checking in again for another month.time to out GT5 outta my mind for awhile and get out and get some fresh air.

  27. CeeJay

My guess is a major glitch. I was so surprised to see some recent videos of a GT5 build where the entire track would disappear in the middle of a race, almost like the engine just stopped rendering everything. If it’s a major programming issue I guarantee this game will be pushed into 2011. :(

  28. GTP_ken_b

Sure disappointed, but I’ve got passed that. When the game is released I’m sure we’ll all be happy. Better for them to either fix something, hold the game for some sales motivated ish, or for whatever master plan Sony or PD has. It is what it is, so I’ll continue to sit in my set up, enjoying gt5p…I’m not hating…just really need some ice for my blue balls! Kaz, I’d still buy you several cold beers. Sony…whatever you need to do to make the shareholders happy. Q1 ’11….or whenever…my disappointment isn’t going to change their plan, my pre-ordered CE won’t get cancelled…just looking forward to a definitive date, provided in some cocktail of Kaz and a Sony execs blood. ha, just kidding on that one. Misery loves company…oh, you’ll get no demo. Just sour lemons for now, but when the game is released, happy days!

  29. Stig Junior

We want demo version at least, not in stores, on PSN, that would be reasonable and helpful to wait for realize day !
    Apologizes do what ?! NOTHING!

    1. itrRspec96

Agree, they should release a demo on PSN.

To see all these demos in stores while constanly gettnig those false release dates is just disappointing.

PD and Sony should give us fans a treat and release the demo already. One guy even had the demo on his personal PS3 at home? C’mon Sony!

  30. Phoax

This is like the boy who cried wolf. I will no longer believe any release date info. The only proof I will accept is a copy in my hands.

    1. DarthTurismo

Totally agree with your statements.. and pretty much everyones sentiments here…

the rollercoaster of emotions i have experienced over the last few years anticipating GT5 is indescribable…

But knowing that Kaz is such a perfectionist just reinforces the fact that we really don’t know when this game will release… even if they give another release date…

Surely 3 weeks prior to worldwide launch the blurays have already been cut?? what happens to those? curious..
unless of course the decision was made a while ago and they are only just telling us now!

either way i think all we can do is just forget about release dates and when someone says “hey look GT5 is on the shelf for sale!!” we can pick one up and see what Kaz’s idea of perfection is…. sigh…

  31. Tenacious D

Okay, so who complained about the trees again?!

But seriously, this is obviously something that can’t be patched. This is either

    – a serious programming flaw, or

    – a huge licensing issue.

Something else that just hit me is that some hugely demanded inclusion has a number of fans irate. I doubt that Kaz has decided to upgrade the Standard cars to Premiumish levels, because that would take a small eternity. So, something is up with a matter along the lines of

    – cockpit views being wedgied in for Standards

    – Livery Editor, or something similar.

Whatever the deal is, we’ll know soon. If some of you want to bail, hey, that’s one more Special Edition or regular game for a racer who really wants the best.

  32. fredyellowone

Now, PD, work on my damm Bonnet/Hood view.
Go go go. You can do it.

    Last minute great news!!!!

I’m sure i will be prestige 9 on Black Ops by GT5 release date.

Ho, and Kaz should wrtie me a personnal excuse to put in my collector edition.

  33. chase

gamestop just changed there ship date to 1/1/2011, but i don’t think its going to be released on a Saturday??

  34. viejaloca

    You know what sucks?
I told my friends I wouldn’t be buying black ops because I suck at CoD and GT5 will be coming out before CoD. But now becaus of this bull, I probably will buy it and spend the days prestiging and rage quiting of insane frustration of all the cheapness by the time GT5 comes out.

  35. jim

does anyone know if the launch party on the 26th in madrid has been cancelled? as that would seem to be the obvious place to give the new ‘release’ date.
I cant see it being post christmas launch that would be stupid.

  36. Woggster

CRAP! I knew it was too good to be true! What’s a one week delay we can wait right? then PD will be saying “oh, one more month won’t hurt anyone.”
Then before we all know it GT5 will be realised just in time for the PS4. It kinda makes sense considering PD weren’t happy that they had to remove details/quality from the game so that it would run on the PS3.

God help PD if they hold this game back any longer, because there will be hell to pay!

  37. Horch

    Dissapointed .
I ‘ve been a GT fan all my life , and i ‘ve had every single GT game that was ever out there . ( even the Tokyo-Geneva thing ) .
I can deal with another short delay , but i’ve got a baby boy coming in march .
If i don’t get GT5 by then , it will mean the end of my GT collection .
I’m sorry , PD , but i’ve got better things to do then .

    Grtz , Horch .

  38. Stune

Lets hope its a relatively short delay.

A demo is the least they could do to start to repair the damage done by this delay.

  39. superb16

Oh and my guess is Q1 2011. No way is this going to be delayed only 6 weeks. There’s something major wrong with the game.

  40. superb16

Of course this had to happen just hours after I pre-ordered on Amazon. Thanks a whole damn lot, Polyphony.

If it’s because they finally figured out how to make realistic engine sounds, then it would be totally worth it, but that will never happen in GT so this just plain stinks.

  41. sandoz

    Holiday Season?
    Not – before Christmas?

If they cant get this out before Christmas it will be the biggest epic failure of a game release ever!

  42. AGNT009

I think its safe to rule out a marketing ploy. You have to have some huge balls to delay this game this close to release date JUST to position yourself for “better sales”. If thats all this was, you would back up your delay with a new release date instantly. Right? The fact that they know they cant release the game by Nov 2nd, but yet STILL cant determine with any certainty how long said delay will be is seriously troubling. Ive been saying for months that it appears Kaz is spending too much time adding stuff, and not setting aside the proper amount of time to playtest. What else could this be about but one Godzilla sized programming bug? He should have been told months ago to draw the line on all his little “one more thing” additions. Whats also troubling is that they go on and on about no DLC. So that means whatever state this game is in on release, thats it, they wash their hands of it and on to GT6. Which is lame because the NASCAR content at least deserves updated DLC content. It seems like it could be their lame head tracking 3D combo. Sony got a look at final build and realized it was still glitchy and gimmicky, and knowing sales of 3D tvs relied on this part of the game being solid, they demanded some additional tweaks on it. This game has no business trying to be 3D anyways. And the headtracking is stupid too. How many people can afford THREE HDTVs!? We all know how laughable Kaz’s damage model looks, and this delay just magnifies the lame melted plastic look it has last we saw it. There is NO WAY this game lives up to the hype with all this delay mess. They have already failed, even if 95% of the game is draw dropping. If I were Sony, Id demote Kaz to #2 man, and put a guy with actual time management skills as project manager.

    1. Red_9

Exactly my thoughts. Kaz is to time management like Hideo Kojima is to storywriting; he’s always adding in something more and putting in way more than is necessary.

What he needs is an assistant to tell him when enough is enough; this doesn’t need to be added into the game. You don’t need to cover every single racing genre in one game. Hell, I’m probably only ever going to touch kart racing once or twice, and NASCAR probably won’t get much time from me either.

The fact of the matter is that Kaz has no one to tell him when enough is enough, so he’s constantly saying “one more, one more!” without moderation.

I GUARANTEE you we’re looking at 2011. Even if this delay is only a few weeks, it’s enough to make me pissed off. I’m glad I didn’t waste my money on a preorder like the rest of you did.

    2. Tenacious D

No, actually, I disagree with this sentiment completely. Which is what it is. You aren’t being logical, just emotional and reactionary.

    3. AGNT009

Tenacious, your trees comment further below made me laugh hard. Thank You. As for you disagreeing with me, I dont understand why you call my post emotional, compared to others here. It seems pretty logical to me. Ive simply stated the facts. He may very well get demoted, and have a numbers man watching his every move next time around for GT6. GT5 WONT match expectations after the anger they have caused. 3D and headtracking is gimmicky and unnecessary, and I wont be a bit surprised if Sony found one or both features unworthy in their present state, and told Kaz to totally strip those elements out and perfect them for GT6. THAT is a strong possibility. Its not like Im saying he needs to plunge a sword into his stomach like I alluded to earlier this year, lol.

    4. Sigmaviper11

I will say Kaz might need to learn time management. Not to get the game out on time so much as giving a proper real date that they can make. Also learning a cutoff point for additions. They’ve started on GT6 so any other additions should be put to that. And unless he’s planning to run multiple discs, he’ going to run out of space, quickly! I wouldn’t say he’s failed. When you really think about it, what we’re getting will be epic, given tech and licensing restrictions. He does need to make time for testing, but otherwise, this entire thing was expected. For the fans that blow a gasket, the reality is, when the game is released, there will probably be more than enough new fans coming up to make up for those who walk away. From a business standpoint it’s unfortunate, but as long as theres a major profit, it’ll be more than acceptable.

  43. Ferrari

    Alright
if I see another delay this game is out of my list.

    enough is enough
they shouldn’t keep you waiting like that and teasing you with all these gameplays & demos & competitions.
instead of wasting time with the stupid competitions lets see the game first.

    1. Red_9

Yeah no kidding. I don’t understand why they concern themselves with organizing GT competitions, media parties and BTS featurettes when they could be spending that time finishing the game faster.

Maybe if they hadn’t spent all that time putting demos at conventions every week, they might have stuck to their date this time.

  44. No46_TheDoctor

I’m seriously considering selling my PS3, getting a decent graphics card, already have a i7 desktop, and getting some decent PC race sims and forgetting about GT5, never thought I’d say that !

Anyone recomend any good PC racing sims?

  45. Icant55

On my way to cancel Pre order…. bad enough money is tight!!! I have had this game on pre order almost 4 years now the money from that alone could have bought me the game and a few ps3’s,a DS, and two cheese box 360’s… AND WE STILL CAN’T GET A DEMO!!! im definitely not getting in on the release date! whatever year it comes out…

  46. No46_TheDoctor

The fact that they are waiting almost until the November release date, to give us another release date, doesn’t sound good to me.

I can see this turning into a 2011 Xmas title, maybe then all the planets will be in the right constellations, the balance of good and evil will be just right, the groundhog won’t cast a shadow and Sony can finally release what is slowly but surely becoming one big joke into the world, then again, I wouldn’t count on it.

  47. Red_9

This is why I always said they need to STOP making release dates until they are ABSOLUTELY SURE that there is nothing that can delay their game. This game was originally supposed to come out two and a half years ago; the fact that we’re being spoon fed these release date lies, AND ACCEPTING THE DELAYS, is borderline insanity.

Kaz, you don’t need more time to “make it perfect.” Tell us the real reasons you delay it, and don’t give us anymore of this cocked-up suger-coated BS.

    1. Paulo

Exactly, we were waiting for release, now again we are waiting for release of release date. Gotta love it. Only Sony and PD baby, woohooo!!!

  48. jakeBG19

since ive been waiting for this game:
finished gt4 twice, graduated high school, bought ps3,finished first college course, got half way through 2nd college course, bought first car, destroyed first car, moved half way across the country with gf,bought second car, became an uncle, had my car stolen, got car back sold it and bought third car and cheap truck, read gt5 was delayed again and came close to ruining my new pair of pants….ive been waiting so long i have done all this and it STILL isnt out WTF,wow

  49. viejaloca

    All I can say is:
PD fudged up, BIG TIME for having “technical difficulties” on a game this big. Quit the perfectonist bull and release the fricken game Sony! If I see ta there aren’t at least 10 more cars are premium, this game is NOT WORTH TE WAIT. This blows.

  50. GranTurismoer

I will be canceling my GT5 CE/320GB PS3 bundle because I don’t want to wait potentially a few more months to play a PS3.

Also I’ll just opt for the standard edition of GT5 when it drops, in the meantime I’ll look for a good deal on a new PS3 and some decent second hand games.

I’m hoping PD are going to add cockpits to standard cars, and with the extra time there’s no excuse not to add a few more cars.

I don’t mind waiting longer for a superior product.

  51. lapierre4

Somethings bothers me about these communicates by SONY. Nowhere was a delay for North America mentionned. Is it only because they forgot? Hmmm it’s impossible. So that may mean that North American release is still november 2nd. But again this is still not logical because all the rest of the world would have to wait for it.

I hope we know what happened and that that late october release announcement will be the good one, not too far away from now!

    1. ddl8

the most important market for gt5 is europe (well russian in particular :)_, so they gonna release gt5 for europe first, if europe gonna have to wait so US too, pray they dont delay it for US market even further – say Q1 2011 – that would be hilarious man…

    2. lapierre4

But the principal customer of SONY, not just GT5 is North America. And I didn’t receive any notice of delay for my Amazon pre-order?

That is getting strange up here…

    3. DrTrouserPlank

What planet are you living on?

Europe is the biggest gaming market for all consoles. Sony, Nintendo, Xbox.

GT5’s sales in Europe will completely dwarf it’s sales in America, but if you want to keep kidding yourself that it won’t be delayed in the US then go ahead.

  52. R1600Turbo

If they are correct in it being release this “holiday season”, that’s what? Another month or so?

No big deal when I have Medal of Honor and NFS:Hot Pursuit to play for now.

  53. LeftyWright69

What happened to the good ol days of losing face. Now I want the Signature editon North America so I can have a chance to win a Tesla

  54. Squozen

This has been a debacle from start to finish. In the time that this game has been in the works I’ve swapped real life cars twice. I also arranged for two weeks off work in early November partially to spend time playing GT5.

Somebody at Sony needs to sit down and have a serious think about how they let PD get away with this. In Australia, the signature edition of GT5 that I had pre-ordered costs MORE than an Xbox 360 arcade and Forza 3. I’ll be playing one of them this holiday – which is it going to be, Sony?

  55. Shigegaki

And they want people to sign up for Playstation Plus? Where the heck is the demo? Since one of our members already has it, I might go to Gamestop to see if I can copy the demo to my machine. I wonder what the delay is? Maybe adding more cars hahaha.

    1. Digolgrin

Most likely it’s for CoD reasons. Black Ops is, by far, the most preordered game this year. I think Polyphony must have considered that most people’ll be out getting Black Ops over GT5, and later this month we have NFS Hot Pursuit. Naturally, the PR guys saw that as an alarming situation (NFS has been in a slump for quite some time, what with Undercover, so Hot Pursuit is a return to the series’ roots… and who would do it better than Criterion?) and IMMEDIATELY pulled the plug on 11/2 and November as a release date.

    2. Stune

Digolgrin hate to be so argumentative here, but there are some fundamental things wrong with that you are saying.

      1. Firstly COD (a shooter) has no affect what so ever on sales of a racing game. If anything it will help the sales of GT5 since it gets people on the console makign gaming in general a more attractive proposition this cold winter. It helps make better bundles for christmas time etc. In no way should GT5 be ‘scared of COD’.

2.”NFS has been in a slump for quite some time”- seriously? Have you played Shift or did you forget about that? Highest rated NFS in many years.

      3. Why would NFS Hot pursuit be alarming for GT5s PR guys? GT5 has way more tracks (many real), around 1000 cars, realistic driving physics and is certain to be a extremely high standard. Everyone knows GT5 been in development for over 5 years unlike NFS HP’ 2 years? Are you seriously suggesting they are scared of an arcade street racing title?

GT5 has nothing to be scared of from any other game. Thats not why it was delayed.

    3. - Ice of SZRT -

      @ Stune:

Both Cod & NFS have a big effect on GT5 seeing how games aren’t necessarily cheap & to someone who may favor an arcade racer or a FPS to a simulator and thus having to weigh their options, they would choose one of the other 2, and by wich time they are able to afford GT5 reviews will have already gone public. And if GT5 gets bad reviews (wich is highly possible, due to all its hype & delays, it’s likely tbe scrutinized and come under harsh criticism) it could lose sales (Not mine, I know quality & will purchase it regardless of public opinion).

So yes, his point is plausible… Not everyone has $120+ To purchase more than one game a month, & not everyone would’ve chosen GT5 over CoD:BO or NFS:HP. Valid opinion, & it’s sensible… Not likely, but sensible if it’s thought out.

  56. Oli (Death783)

I remember reading about it being released in 2010, the cheeky kn*bs are probably gunna make it Dec 31st.

  57. Thor

Am I dissappointed? Yes. Am I surprised? No. Why?

Because this has happened with every GT release since GT2 (and maybe even 1 but no one cared this much back then.) To be fair to PD it is not like they have never released anything before. In twelve years they have released five full length games and two prologues on three different systems. Based on what we have all seen the content of GT5 certainly surpasses any previous racing game and possibly any videogame in history. I’m not making excuses for PD. Personally I believe Kaz has spent too much time globetrotting and actually racing and not enough time hands on at PD directing traffic. But, what do I know. And to all those putting all of the blame on PD please don’t think Sony does not have any say in this. I could very, very well be a complete marketing decision by Sony.

Be angry, be disappointed but GT5 will be released and most likely it will be this year. Until someone can actually produce a game of the same caliber with the same amount of content, polish, etc. then I’m sticking with GT.

    1. Dude27

yes, but the more you wait, the more you leave your competitors to get their product on par or better than your 5 years delayed game… 10turn, Simbin and EA are around the corner.

    2. Thor

EA, Turn 10, Simbin, Codemasters, etc. have all been around for years and produced tons of driving games. Turn 10 have done the least but Codemasters and EA have produced many more racing games then PD. And, you know, I like many of them. GTR and GTR 2 by Simbin are great. Right now I’m playing NFS: Shift and F1 2010. How about Papyrus and their NASCAR games back in the day? Dirt, Dirt 2, Grid all good games. And none of them has ever held my interest like GT. I do not own an Xbox and I will not judge Forza 3 because I have not played it. It may very well be the best alternative to GT and I will have to try it one day. But all the rest have tried and I still don’t see a game held to this level. Sure PD will lose fans because of this. If the final product does meet the expectations of fans though they will lose even more.

    1. whiteman

GT 6, now thats funny. I’ve already have GT5 being the last one I play as I’m not waiting another decade.

  58. Dude27

Why can they be HONEST for once??? is it so much beyond Sony or PD to give us an honest answer: like:

    – We f–cked up the production line
    – We just found a BIG BUG in the final release
    – Kaz is too damm picky that he cannot put his seal of approval in a gold release
    – we want to maximize the sale of PS3 for Xmas
    – “No I didn’t. Honest… I ran out of gas. I, I had a flat tire. I didn’t have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn’t come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts. IT WASN’T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD.”

    1. DrTrouserPlank

Of course it affects the US….

You think they are going to delay it in Europe (their biggest market multiple times over) but release it in the US??

      Come on..

  59. ralph89

If I could curse on someone at PD I could have done it by now. Good for them I wasn’t raised like that, but this is getting ridiculous! I’ve bought a PS3 mainly for this game, and guess what I end up with? Some crappy games like MW2 and Far Cry 2! Someone needs to create a mob outside PD’s building. If they have planned on creating a huge game, they should have thought of hiring more people. I respect Kaz, but this is just crazy.

    1. Sigmaviper11

The problem with hiring more is that its harder to get people to stick to the same ideal and level of passion when there are a lot, as opposed to only a few hundred.

  60. Zenith

“In order to make a quality release date announcement we regret to inform you that the release date of the release date of Gran Turismo 5 is being delayed”

    1. grbmrdj

for any other game this might have been funny, but no release has been confirmed, and what you said will probably happen. its not like your statement is completely out there or anything, i reckon it probably will happen.

    1. HugoStiglitz_420

maybe. MW2 is one of the worst shooters of all time but treyarch did a great job on WaW so if black ops is good sure

    2. Woggster

Yes please i’ll be playing Black Ops to kill time for the next year or two until GT5 is realised when the PS4 comes out…

    3. HugoStiglitz_420

I have a better option. Ferrari Challenge, it’s awesome. the physics are second only to GT5(P). yes, that means forza, shift, and any other console racer do not have as good physics as ferrari challenge. it’s only $20. trust me, buy it. check out on you tube classic game room review of ferrari challenge if you don’t believe me

  61. Ps3fanboy

you sound like this is the end , like they’ve given up on the whole thing!

Ofcourse im bummed they changed the date!

But its not the end of the world like you make it sound like.

  62. GT4Ever

Its still an epic fail. Once you announce a releasedate in a trailer you should be 100% you can make the announced date.

    1. GoldUltima

No, it’s not coming out this month. The game has been delayed passed November for all territories. They will TELL us when it’s going to come out later this month.

  63. Got2xlr8

It has to be said that the Fans of the GranTurismo Franchise are by far… the. MOST patient, forgiving and LOYAL! group of fans to any game… EVER. If not, we would have; to qoute Lewis Black “risen as one and slayed them!”

    1. Sigmaviper11

No, which may be a good thing. Means they might finally stick to it and accept dealing with more minor problems through updates.

  64. Sigmaviper11

I’d rather have this minimal delay with a proper and complete game than have an incomplete game now. I hate delays, but I can understand where they come from, be it for the game or from a sales pitch.

  65. BigE

…and I’m home today waiting for UPS to deliver my Logitech G27 wheel.
I was going to set up my cockpit, play some GT5 Prologue all in anticipation of the Nov. 2 release date, get everything all set and perfect so I can just jump in Nov. 2.
…Now I just wanna crawl in to bed and never come out.

    1. nismofreak

I did the same thing: ordered my wheel and scheduled a week of vacation time off from work just for this game. Will I get the game eventually? Yes but I won’t get that time off from work back. This blows!

I know that this is the second official delay for GT5 but soon there is no way they are going to spin this to the masses. We, the faithful, will still get the game but for the others, they might just pickup another title.

I guess we just have to bend over and take it. (*sigh*)

    1. Detroitbb

Why blame Sony for a Polyphony Digital call? They wouldn’t want the delay any more than we, as fans, would!

    2. HugoStiglitz_420

how would you know it’s PDs fault? Sony can delay it if they want. you don’t actually buy that “need more time for Kaz to make it perfect” BS do you?

    3. Sigmaviper11

If you wanna do that go for it, those that want to can join you, but I personally have faith in KZ and PD that the delay was more than likely for a good reason. I’m stickin to them.

    4. IVKillerVI

You’re going to boycott them because they wont give you something you want to buy?
That makes such a small amount of sense it has to work.

  66. minihulkster

Who cares what they announce!!!! I’m not going to believe them anymore. This game has been delayed 3 times(officially) and after finnaly getting a specific date, they pull the date again. Sony and PD has lost credibility in my book.

    1. Digolgrin

You are wrong. We originally had a release date in March, but that got pulled for unknown reasons. IF ANYTHING, that release date is gonna be in March 2011. Think about it; LP2 was supposed to come out over the holidays, like in December of ’09, but they pulled it to March and THEN May. Either way, my friend darknexus23 is gonna be so pissed when he finds out.

  67. Mad cookies

If GT5 had Porsche, I’d be ok with the delay, but we all know that’s not going to happen. What the duck is the reason for the delay…..

  68. - Ice of SZRT -

I think it may have something to do with the online mode… That’s the only thing I could think of outside of CoD… I mean, they released a commercial in Japan, they did an event in NY, I think they were honestly going to release it & something happened… I just want to know WHAT… It would make the wait more tolerable…

    1. Sigmaviper11

Yea it would. It feels so weird in the fact that, it almost definetively feels like either date positioning issues or bug issues.

    1. Sigmaviper11

Sales wise, they would probably make serious bank, if they released it before Black Friday, then allowed places to cut the price by like 10 to 15 dollars on the insane shopping rant.

  69. NoonenF1

Ironically this happened today, where I was planning on the calling my local GameStop to see if they have sold enough pre-orders to warrant a midnight release of the game. Go figure…

    1. JimInPT

I wonder how many people bought Prologue in anticipation of GT5 coming fairly soon after …. and have then DIED in the almost 3 years since, while still waiting?

  70. doctorfouad

so i should program a new vacation…it is strange they are delaying it 2 weeks before release, I al pretty sure it is because of bugs and slowdowns, polyphony needed more time to polish the game…

  71. Keyz13

if you want a demo it will be another 6 mos before release. They are putting ALL their effort into “golding” this game.

  72. Super T

    GT5: Forever.

Hugely disappointed with Sony/PD at the moment, we need a proper reason for yet another delay rather than this BS we’re getting at the moment. Waited for an ‘official’ release date before pre-ordering and just bought the DFGT in preperation for next month only to be let down again!

I just hope my nearly four year old PS3 doesn’t die on my before we finally get this damn game… I may just buy a 3601 (and anyone who knows me personally knows how extreme a statement that is!)

  73. Sigmaviper11

I think it’ll be funny if the release date is right after Thanksgiving. Lol. Maybe Dec 1st or something.

    1. Sigmaviper11

Because people are going completely batsh*t over something that for the most part should have been expected and that a few have even predicted.

So basically its kinda like, people are gonna get it eventually, they’ve been waiting for 5 years now. That’s a test of patience. But if they’ve seriously come this far and then are going to throw a tantrum for something that may be anywhere from a few weeks to a few months of delay, its like. . . really?

Its his dream that we’ve all had the privilege of sharing. But in the end it’s still his dream and run by Sony. So basically, stop trippin over somethin ya can’t control.

So people trippin ballz over what may quite likely be a minor delay, is rather hilarious.

  74. - Ice of SZRT -

I wonder how many new buyers out there will opt to buy a X360 instead of a PS3 because of this news?…

  75. SpawnBlack

What a load of BS this is. Why not just wait until Jan 2011 because at this rate its just a damn joke. Who is responsible for this cock up and why? Why do we have to wait so long? Why why why??

    1. HugoStiglitz_420

DEMO DEMO DEMO DEMO DEMO DEMO DEMO !!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope someone at PD sees this. We need a f’in DEMO !!!!!!!!!!!! it’s the best solution @ this point. DEMO !!!!!!!!!!! RELEASE A PSN DEMO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2. HugoStiglitz_420

I finally tried the DEMO at best buy, IT’S AWESOME!!!! If they put it on PSN tomorrow, I would forget about the delay completely because the demo is awesom (except for the time limit)

    3. Sigmaviper11

actually I have a good idea, how about, 1 well balanced car, and then one scene and the course randomization system. A demo that would keep you busy maybe?

    4. Sasek

Now the demo seems reasonable for me. After changing the release date, demo is mandatory at this time. No matter what and how much it will be cars and tracks in demo, it’s important to have any.

  76. soLid

Sooooooooooooooooooooo instead of the full game at the end of the month we COULD be getting “final” release date?
    WHAT A JOKE…
But what can you do? We shall persevere!

  77. Gregormeister

Yes, a DEMO (look at this word close, PD!) would be a great thing as a consolation. But a few more cars than only one, please! And one or two great track(s).

CAPE RING (with variations!) perhaps? Or El Capitan?

  78. Hacki Roku

its such a shame, i c’ant believe it, i sympatize with all of you who take day or week off for this, i think ”dissapointed” is a little too soft for the feeling ive got right now…..

  79. Sigmaviper11

I’m betting after that last show at gamescom they started working on updating and improving things, like say. . . sound, or other minute little details, and ended up going well past the posted date set by the logistics side, that would allow them to make enough copies in time for release.

EG, Kaz probably went perfectionist bonkers on us.If the Holiday season of this year is a serious launch window for them, then it really isn’t that bad.

I’m hoping that they continue to release videos, of some of the more interesting features as a result of not just another delay but also do to the rather irritating timing.

I’m pretty sure we’d like to see some more features. Not unveil the whole thing. But some more. maybe a peek at the RM? Or maybe an actual event or two? How a bout a wee bit of customization? Or maybe just a race or drift vid with some of the previously stated stuff so we can get all speculationy and keep us busy till release?

    1. Ishie

“If the Holiday season of this year is a serious launch window for them, then it really isn’t that bad.”

That’s not the point. They keep making you dates for release which never comes. I bought my PS3 FOR this game. That was this time two years ago. I’m tired of waiting dude..

  80. Detroitbb

Obviously Sony is in full damage-control mode as this severely affects their bottomline ($$$). But I really want to hear from Polyphony Digital about the nature of this delay.

    1. Sigmaviper11

Agreed. If they could give out a legitimate statement or reason, glitches, bugs what have you, I’m pretty sure while fans would be irritated, they’d be a lot more understanding. Even if it was a potentially hilarious bug.

    2. Detroitbb

Yep… and not one of those BS vague statements that say it’s because they just want to bring you the best game possible. Polyphony Digital needs to make a statement (not have Sony do so as the middle-man) and give a specific reason – that would appease enough fans and keep the palpable anger to a minimum.

  81. Gregormeister

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

    But… life’s going on.
Good thing I haven’t determined my GT holidays yet.

  82. Enciah

Yesterday we didn’t have to wait too much longer for GT5, today we didn’t have to wait too much longer for release date…next?? damn sony and PD

  83. dani_corvette

man this is just frustrating :( I can’t believe that 3 weeks away they’ve just found something wrong that can’t be fixed with an update patch, and the worst of all, will need most likely 2 months! to be repaired. Very disapointing

    1. VeyronGlen

That would be like Forza 3 though if they released it with bugs. There was a HUGE list of online bugs wasn’t there, check out some of the videos on YouTube, they’re histerical but dissapointing because the game wasn’t finished. Also, they didn’t have gear shift animations straight away and by the time everything on Forza was actually fixed and completed, it got boring. So hopefully when they do actually release it, it will be bug free. :D

    2. dani_corvette

I know what you mean, and I’m the first person in the world who wants GT5 bug-free. But this just feels like they’re playing with us….
I really expect a totally convincing explanation given buy Sony and/or PD, and with convincing I mean not to tell us how perfectionist Kaz is, because that sentence is overused, i think we are all tired of hearing it, I mean a detailed explanation of what has really happened that’s forced the game to be delayed.

    3. Sigmaviper11

Maybe on the generated course if you go to far out or something and hit one of their magic invisible walls your car gets catapulted. I had a similar issue with a Mercedes at Grand Valleys Speedway. Spun around and let it roll up to a fence backwards, and thing got catapulted across the road. Then again, Maybe they’re removing the invisible walls at the Top Gear track and fixing the bugs for abnormal tracks or something. I remember there were no replays at the Gymkhana. Just, possibilities.

  84. DrTrouserPlank

Probably so they can announce the new 2011 release schedule whilst people are still pissed off from the November delay. Get all the bad news out of the way now before people start getting excited about an Xmas release.

    1. Millgate1

Yeh,I wouldn’t care what track or car just a demo would be awesome….but open to the public, would hate to have to buy PS+ for a game that I’ve been waiting 5 years for

    2. GTP_Dessy

good call.. but they probably see it as a lot more trouble than its worth to put something on the PSN for millions to download

    1. Sigmaviper11

That could be too. Hopefully its not the disappearing cars syndrome again. Or maybe they were tweaking the damage system or something and found a massive glitch. Who knows, but definitely a good and quite probable theory.

    2. jaketovey

i think that their a bit pushed for time and sony granted them the delay because of other big games launching in November, such as CoD7. so hopefully it would get more sales.

personally i think their nerve of telling us its delayed three weeks before release is intolerable. after 5 yrs waiting. (tut)

  85. Sigmaviper11

So are all the events for parties and announcements still on schedule? I know launch parties are probably out for now, but what about the reviews and the embargoes?

    1. infamousDee

      -∞

Couldn’t be less disappointed. Any delays only mean the finished product will be yet more mind-blowing!

    2. GT'ireland

typical, after everyones hopes being built up,after this is saddens me to say i dont care anymore when it comes out…thats a big blow to me,it could be a number of reasons why or maybe they want to release the PS3/GT5 bundle before the game itself to make more money….im really dissapointed and i know all you fellow GT fanatics are also.:(

    3. ddl8

I hope this is the last delay, because it is getting not funny at all.

how many times have they already postponed the game? thats just rediculous. It is gonna be awarded as most times delayed game of the decade.

    4. FlareKR

AHHHHHH!!! There ruins my birthday gift! How much more perfect do you want the game PD, release it already and do something called hmmm, D – L – C!?!?!?
Do I have to grow a damn beard by the time GT5 comes out? I’ll be walking to GameStop with my cane!

    5. DirtyMudFlaps

      +(googolplex x googolplex) x ∞ x 0

i guess the’re shooting for Christmas for maximum sales…

And its gonna be around the same time GT4 was realased…
Just hope it wont be 2011
