GTPlanet Community Spotlight: The Return of Eiger’s Mysterious Block

If it hasn’t been made apparent already, this is, unequivocally, the year of the racing game. With so many options spanning across just about every platform available there’s something for everyone, and just enough of them release in such close proximity that you’ll be driven mad just trying to decide what you want to play! Another problem arises from games already on the market that are continually updated; there’s just too much going on in the racing game scene this year – what a fantastic problem to have.

There’s Driveclub, Need For Speed, WRC 5, Forza Motorsport 6, Project CARS, and F1 2015, which one could argue is effectively two games for the price of one, and that’s just to name a very select few. The point being with so many options available for a hobby we’re all rather passionate about how on earth is there time to play other games? Through all of this excitement there is a light of discontent, and that discontent arises from the following question: What happened to Gran Turismo 6?

The simple fact of the matter is nothing really happened to Gran Turismo 6. There are some details that won’t be discussed here as it is neither the time nor the place; details that have affected the way Gran Turismo 6 played out its lifetime as such, but you can rest assured that its lifetime hasn’t come to an end just yet. What that means exactly is something you’ll have to discover for yourselves when the time comes because you’ll never get a word out of me.

There’s plenty to get through this week so without any further ramblings: who’s ready for the Spotlight?

GTPlanet Picture of the Week

This week’s featured image, recommended to us by doblocruiser and courtesy of RL_23 features the 2015 Nissan 370Z NISMO.

If you like what you’re seeing and have a suggestion for next week’s featured image, start a conversation with me, entitle it “GTPlanet Picture of the Week” and fill it to your heart’s content with suggestions and they’ll be featured in upcoming Community Spotlight articles. GTPlanet Gallery of the Week

This week’s featured gallery is Crash’s Photos, and is brought to you courtesy of Crash. Opened on the 21st of April in 2013, Crash’s Photos, like most galleries found on GTPlanet, begins the foray into real photography by showcasing cars and car culture but quickly branches out and focuses on other subject matters. Crash’s Photos makes great use of those subjects matters, the environment around them, angles, colors, and of course cars.

As mentioned previously, the showcase doesn’t begin and end with cars and car culture as you’ll soon find yourself admiring the “real world” shots that offer just the right amount of contrast when weighed against the rest of what the gallery has to offer.

You can find Crash’s gallery here to look through a gallery that’s still in its relative infancy but has a wealth of great photos in its catalog. The latest update to the gallery was just yesterday, July 23rd.

GTPlanet Thread of the Week – The Mysterious Block at Eiger Returns!

Eiger-Nordwand---Circuito-corto_1_zpsiugm62u3

You’re racing around the reverse variant of Eiger Nordwand in the Suzuki SX4 and before you know it, two cones and a race barrier erect from the track surface, almost seeping from the pores of the tarmac itself – wait, what?!

In this week’s thread started by our very own ItGivesYouWings, the mysterious Eiger anomaly is broken down into detail and will even allow you to recreate the issue should you want to if for no other reason than to ogle this most unique easter egg.

  • Get into the SX4 or at least, have it selected as favorite in the garage.
  • Go to “Arcade Mode”
  • Choose “Time Trial”
  • Go into “Original Circuits” and select “Eiger Nordwand – Short Track – Reverse”
  • Start into the first corner and steer violently against the corner, “bitting” the grass on the right.
  • Continue to the start lane for about 170 km/h.
  • Press the button you have assigned for the rear view camera or go back to the lane.

Make no mistake about it, this isn’t the first time this has been documented by our community as our own Lubeify100 brought it to the community’s attention just over a year ago. Should you want to drop by the more recent thread and ask just about every possible question, then you’ll look no further than right here.

Ferrari FXX K Coming to Driveclub

Just in case you missed the news earlier in the week, this month’s DLC due next week for Driveclub will include the Ferrari FXX K, FXX Evoluzione, McLaren P1 GTR, Nissan GT-R NISMO, and the Renault Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R – five stellar rides to end the season pass with. Why is the FXX K singled out you ask? This is why:

The Meaning Behind Names

gt-impreza-10– “The Hills Are Alive”, courtesy of euclid58.

Let’s just keep it simple and cut straight to the point: What does your user name mean, and how did you come up with it? It’s a simple thread put together by none other than Jordan and is something that’s easily engaged, perhaps more so than most other threads created. For those interested here’s the story behind my name.

Back around the time AOL was still of the utmost relevance I wrote in my spare time (imagine that!), and I put together this story by name of Solstice Centauri which revolved around robots and war, and the robots were constructed from an alloy that I dubbed, you guessed it, Terronium-12.

If you’re interested in sharing the story behind your name then you’ll have to look no further than the thread right here!

ReCore

Yet another standout at this year’s E3 just weeks ago, this time on behalf of Microsoft’s press conference. Developed by some of the same minds behind the fantastic Metroid Prime series, and produced by Keiji Inafune, who is responsible for Mega Man, Onimusha, and the upcoming Mighty No. 9, to name a few, ReCore is a fresh yet familiar take on the action-adventure genre featuring a female protagonist.

You assume the role of Jewel and are accompanied by her robot companion, Mack. The two are tasked with bringing humanity back to the planet while a separate faction of robots attempt to stop you from doing just that. Details are still on the sparse side and understandably so for a game that’s only been in development for over 14 months, but nonetheless my interest in piqued and if it’s anything like Horizon Zero Dawn, that also releases in 2016, my only sentiment is the same as it was when I discussed that: I can’t wait.

GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week

https://youtu.be/OzRZkXsNKlg

This week’s featured vehicle is the 2014 Marussia MR03. More specifically, the MR03’s superb race around Monaco driven by the late Jules Bianchi who would ultimately finish in 9th place, thus giving the Marussia F1 team their only points-paying position to date.

GTPlanet Tune of the Week

Merc 300SL LEOZ

You may already be familiar with their restorative tuning efforts that was featured here a while back with the first generation Corvette, and for those of you that aren’t familiar, I re-introduce to you EAG, the Elegance Automotive Guild and this time they’ve had a go at the 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Coupe and is tuned to 426PP.

As before, with such a unique presentation it isn’t something that’s easily summarized and is really worth the time to look over, and you can do just that by heading over to the thread and seeing just how much time and effort was put into this; something you can depend upon for future restorative tunes.

The Last Lap

Last week Formula One driver Jules Bianchi passed away after battling the conditions of a horrendous crash suffered at last year’s Japanese Grand Prix. The last time the world of F1 lost a talent during a Grand Prix was in 1994 when the lives of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger were taken during the weekend of the San Marino Grand Prix, and despite the 21 year gap between these incidents it doesn’t soften the blow one iota. I won’t discuss the matter much more and our community has done a wonderful job of paying their respects in the only way we know how to.

So here’s to you Jules, may you rest peacefully.

Now, the Member of the Week – there will be an interview this week of that I can guarantee, and it should be up during the weekend so keep an eye peeled to the Status Updates for a message from me so you’ll know when the interview is ready to go. With this week’s news out of the way it is once again time to bring another issue of the Community Spotlight to an end.

Until next week, keep racing!

Take your course creator news that you’re sure is news but you can’t tell us but you want to be sure that we know you know, along with your website dedicated to pissing and moaning about course creator and shove em both up your limey arses.

  2. JASON_ROCKS1998

For such an “arcade” racing game DRIVECLUB seems to be getting the cars we deserve on sims! I would love the P1 GTR and FXX K on GT6 or Assetto Corsa!

  3. Eager Snake

I had this question for quite a while and, well, do you guys actually know something we don’t know about GT? I mean, if you say something like “What that means exactly is something you’ll have to discover for yourselves when the time comes because you’ll never get a word out of me.” we’re going to think, at least for a second…. :p

    1. Johnnypenso

T12 is just saying that we’ll have to judge for ourselves whether the reasons behind the course maker delay and how GT6 as a whole has played out, was reasonable or not, when the time comes.

    2. Tenacious D

They definitely know some stuff. T-12 told us that there was a holdup on the Sierra course back in February last year, when PD really meant to release it, and we never did get word about the reason that I’m aware of. It might have something to do with performance issues, might have a linkage to Course Maker II, but we may never know.

Famine mentioned in the CM II thread before it was locked that it wasn’t being held back for technical reasons, which was my speculation. It was for reasons we might or might not like, had something to do with something else, but he wouldn’t elaborate. But he did say it was coming, that more was coming, and clearly they’re intending to do the FIA competitions / championship thing, and perhaps more. Maybe a Spec 2 update. Whatever the deal is with these new goodies, Kaz has said in an interview or two that they would be fully featured in GT7, and whatever they did in GT6 would be like a taste of what’s to come. Maybe GT7 is the holdup.

Whatever the deal is, these new offerings must not be too far off or T-12 wouldn’t be taunting us about it because as I said below, he’s not a meanie. PD must be pretty sure they’re getting things buttoned up. I can’t imagine they want a repeat of the grudge over Sierra taking several months. Then again, people grudge around here like it’s the thing to do.

I don’t get the “out very own” intro; everyone who creates a thread must surely be registered on the site already to have those permissions. :)

  4. photonrider

One again a great read, T-12.

You’re right – it’s the era of driving games. So many games – so little time.

Sorry about the poor crowd-funding at the Strip re your AC; I assure you your efforts will be rewarded eventually.
Thanks once again for keeping us up to date.

So let me get this straight T-12… something happened (which you are not at liberty to discuss) to GT6 that has affected the way it’s updated and/or played?

    Color me curious.

    1. TJC_69

To get you upto speed @nocturnalgrey . The mods know why the CM isn’t in the game . They won’t tell the community even though they are not bound by non disclosure agreements , but PD employees are . PD knows that the GTP mods know , and as a knock on effect they are withholding this from the members of GTP . This is because GTP obviously gets regular interviews and updates from PD , and do not wish to be the source of an information leak as this would jeopardise their access . Being a GT named site with no access to anything GT would not be a good business move , logically .

However , what GTP have not acknowledged , is that by sitting on this info they are just as guilty as PD for not keeping consumers in the know . Which is ironic as this is a GT news section worthy issue , and would probably create extra traffic to the site which in turn means more revenue .

Furthermore , I believe it’s harming the GT fanbase , turning players away from GT as there is nothing new , or even mention of a reason / expected timeframe for the missing GT update . My best guess is that efforts have been diluted in PD offices , and they are planning an early release of a GT pS4 title , GT Sport , a standalone FIA GT game , a GT TT or a 7 prologue . Maybe trying to get it released asap .

In the meantime , all you will get is cryptic paragraphs of GT news . That say absolutely nothing , and no offense meant to the writers , are a waste of time even typing / relaying here .This is my take on the situation .

    2. Gavster11

Yeah T-12, what is it?! You can tell us, we won’t tell anyone………. *chants* tell us! Tell us! Tell us!

    3. TJC_69

I will add that something Famine said in the CM thread made me think deeply about the ” Reason ” . He said the reason itself is the reason they cannot tell what the reason is . And that said reason is something you haven’t thought of …. Wrap your mind around that for a little while …

      All makes perfect sense .

    4. Tenacious D

“what GTP have not acknowledged , is that by sitting on this info they are just as guilty as PD for not keeping consumers in the know” … “I believe it’s harming the GT fanbase , turning players away from GT”

Bit drama there, don’t you think? I guess SONY is “guilty” of driving fans away from the series too by releasing PS4 and not having GT6 on it.

Anyway, focusing work on GT7 to get it out ASAP is the is the kind of guilt that many fans of the series want to see from PD. And listen, I’ve only said a number of times that anything PD does on the antiquated PS3 is going to be a piddling effort compared to what can be realized on the monstrously more powerful PS4. P CARS can run 50 cars on track on PS4. Does that give you a clue?

I still love GT6, would love to see CM II in any other circumstance. But what I really want to see coming from PD is GT7, the serious Gran Turismo. And I suspect that much of the world is with me.

    5. Tenacious D

I did want to say one more thing on this. Terronium isn’t a mean guy. He wouldn’t be teasing this as “I know something you won’t know for a year!” So I suspect that we won’t be in the dark on any GT6 developments too much longer. How long…? Well, as with all things GT… ;D

    6. TJC_69

Not drama in the slightest . There is much unrest in the community . Discontent to be precise as T12 says . This is the second news hint i’ve seen in recent posts . There will be an announcement in the near future . And to anyone on PS3 only , my guess is it’s time to upgrade .

However , it could simply be the FIA thing on PS3 . Now that would be a disappointment xD

    7. Famine

“This is because GTP obviously gets regular interviews and updates from PD , and do not wish to be the source of an information leak as this would jeopardise their access.”

      Nope.

  6. sirjim73

As much as the FXX K sounds good and I look forward to its appearance next week…
It doesn’t sound much at all like the one that I heard going up the Goodwood hillclimb a few weeks ago.
