Ah, all the smeels of Autumn, the leaves, the breeze, the angry growl of performance engines...




A series of track days for lightly modded sports-biased road cars at various original tracks from Gran Turismo 4, and Tourist Trophy

The idea is to reproduce the variety of a track day, and have a bit of fun. This being GTP there has to be a competitive element so we've got a system of classes that should produce some healthy competition. I want the class system to throw up a few odd-ball cars, as you get at a real track day, rather than have everyone turning up in a Motorsport Elise, or whatever. You can choose 3 cars from different divisions, plus there will be 'control car' for every curcuit, to find out who truly is the fastest on that circuit, so give it a go!

Eligibilty:

Any road car/bike in keeping with the Track Day theme, however bikes must be within the 600-1100cc range.
4 door cars will have to be a distinct sports model of higher output than standard in order to be eligible (eg Type R Accords, M5, E55 AMG etc). This rule excludes most kei cars, except such as the Beat and Cappuccino.
No Concept cars, prototypes, ’tuning cars’ (including Buick Special) or racing cars/bikes.
Basically we're after the kind of cars that go to track days: we want sportscars, Jap coupes, muscle cars, hot hatches, supercars, sports saloons; we want Lotuses, TVRs, BMWs, Astons, Jags; we want RX-7s, Supras, Skylines, Monaros; we want GTAs, GTOs(), GT-Rs, GTIs, GTSs, GTVs & GT-Xs; we want VTECs, Evos, FTOs & Quattros; we want 302s, 350s, 427s, 440s, 454s; we want Type Rs, Type Ss, Type R-Ss, and S Type Rs; we want MX, RX, SX, ZX and NSX; S16, T16, V16 & 16V; C2, C5, C8 and C12S...
Well, you get the picture: basically we want any car a petrolhead from outside Scotland would buy to treat him/herself.
The Volvo 240GLT is banned as it is not in the spirit of the competition and it’s butt ugly.

Modifications:

Modifications will be strictly controlled according to the following rules:
The only tyre allowed will be the control tyre: S1.
All cars will start with a base setup as follows: sports suspension, sports exhaust, racing flywheel, chassis refresh (optional), oil change and roll cage (opt).
At each track, competitors will be allowed one further modification of their choice, which must only be one level higher than the previous spec.
The following mods are not allowed: stage 4 turbo, supercharger, no gearbox mods (see below for exceptions), no nitrous system S1 tyres only.
Budget Division cars will start with a stage 1 NA tune, unless they are turbocharged as stock, when they will start with a stage 1 turbocharger.
Cars that are NA as stock may run with an 'aftermarket' turbo, but only to stage 2 as further tuning IRL requires intercooler and other work.
Motorbikes will have all available mods, and be tweaked to within an inch of their lives if you wish. Motorbikes must run Street tyres only

Gearbox Mods

If your car has a specific problem with its gearbox ratios, (eg Caterham, Golf GTI MkV) you may apply to the stewards to be allowed to run an alternative gearbox with a pre-determined set of ratios; these ratios will be considered unadjustable, and you may be asked to provide video evidence to prove this rule has been followed. In most cases this will count as your track mod. I am particularly thinking of certain muscle cars which are blessed with a 3 or even 2 speed gearbox, and will be severely hampered as a result, and other cars that find they hit the rev limiter after very little tuning (eg Nissan 240RS). The ratios will be chosen to suit the age of the car, so 60s Muscle cars will be given a set of ratios to replicate a four speed transmission (5th & 6th will be out of reach), whereas the 240RS will have only 6th gear out of reach and the Caterham will have all 6 speeds available.

Divisions, Categories & Classes:

There will be four divisions:
1) Classics Division (up to 1979)
2) Budget Division (1980-1989)
3) Modern Division (1990 on, <C100,000)
4) Millionaire's Division (1990 on, >C100,000)
5) Motorbike Division

You may enter up to 3 cars but each must be from a different division. This is to promote diversity. Also 1 motorbike may be used from Tourist Trophy is you so wish.

Classes are based on Power to Weight Ratio, which is dynamic as the series progresses. ie. A car that is at the top of it's class in one round, could be at the bottom of the next higher class if a power mod is used.

Points:

The winner of each class will be awarded 1000 points. Every other competitor in the competition will be awarded points on a pro rata basis, according to their time compared to the fastest driver. Drivers will be awarded points based on their fastest time only.

Control Cars:

In order to allow people to see just how fast they are, this time we have included a control car at each circuit. There will be a set spec for these cars, but if there is anything within that spec which is adjustable, you may adjust it.
The cars have been chosen to give people a chance to drive something they may not normally drive, but they should all be great fun. The oddity here is the Renault Alpine A310: this is a car that has a reputation for appalling handling in GT4, and the plan is to see who can actually set up the car so it no longer handles like a giraffe on rollerskates.
The top 3 will be asked to post their settings.

Racing rules:

Standard OLR rules will apply,
All races will be run on S1 tyres,
No contact with walls or other objects,
Two wheels on track at ALL times (1 wheel for bikes),
Rumble strips are part of the track,
Replays may be required in certain cases.
All attempts will be made to resolve racing and setup disputes amicably and without rancour. However the Stewards reserve the right to dock a 2 second penalty from anyone who they believe (in a majority decision) has been cheating, or to scratch the times of the offender completely.

Posting Rules:

Entrants are required to post a spec sheet at each track showing all modifications to the car. The mods for each track are to be clearly marked as "Motorland mod", "base mod", etc. Some cars, such as the Ruf RGT, only have limited modifications available: in these cases please show clearly what has been modified, and what was already modified when you bought the car, or we may believe you are inadvertantly cheating.

Times may be posted with the spec sheet, or in a separate timepost. When posting a new time, please mark it clearly as an updated time, or the stewards may overlook it when collating timesheets. It also helps to use big letters. And flashing lights (only kidding).

ALL ENTRANTS MUST POST THEIR FIRST TIMES BY MIDNIGHT (OZtime) ON WEDNESDAY EACH WEEK. This is to reduce sandbagging and increase the intensity of the competition. If we find too many people are still holding back we may introduce further rules to tackle this. It's much more fun when there are more times coming in, so be a sport and join in.

Final times must be posted by midnight (OZtime) on Saturday each week. Times and points should be posted within 24 hours.


Circuit will change on a Saturday. Times must be in by midnight ACST (Australian Central Standard Time) on that day (for those outside AU see the time on this post to find out what time this is for you).

Final entries for Apricot Hill Reverse must be in by Midnight ACST Saturday 12th August.

I was a little disappointed about Grand Valley too, as I don't like Apricot Hill, and am pretty good and Grand Valley, but meh.

Time is my biggest problem at the moment, but I have been strongly thinking about another car, just not sure what at the moment. May go for something older, but hopefully not as woeful as the Galant.

Good list on your cars as well, love the looks of the '69 Camero and it will be interesting to see how it goes.

Its good to see a few reversed tracks in the mix as well, forces me to learn them over again, which is good.

Oh I've just thought, can you run those tracks in reverse in TT? Have to check that out, as I can't remember.

BTW - who is running bikes as well, I'm very interested to see what comes along on that front, must admit that was it not for the 750cc min I would have run the Gixxer 600. It may be slower but its a much more challenging bike to ride on the limit, light little bugger.

You are the one that suggested the 750cc minimum, I can't see any reason why it can't be dropped to 600.

BTW - who is running bikes as well, I'm very interested to see what comes along on that front, must admit that was it not for the 750cc min I would have run the Gixxer 600. It may be slower but its a much more challenging bike to ride on the limit, light little bugger.

Filizola: You can run with a standard exhaust, but don't worry too much, the Stratos is VERY capable and punches above its weight at the best of times. Believe me, that car can look after itself. If it was me, I'd simply run the exhaust which sounded nicest
