GT5 Online does not work -- game killer for me

I'm sorry for making a post about this but seriously, there is surprisingly little complaints about this which makes me feel like I am the only one having issues.

I got GT5 on the 24th, installed it, and have played it every day and have NOT been able to get online even once.
The game runs fine with no problems

I opened the In-game manual and port forwarded all ports suggested in the manual on my router. All other internet functions including several different games run without a hitch.

Am I the only one having this issue, or am I too believe that Sony does not have the capacity to use their game as advertised? This really is a game breaker for me, and I have been drooling for this game to release (and have bought GT2-5 on release day so I'm a huge fan).

Any help or information anyone can provide would be great.

Please keep Snarky comments to yourself.

Not sure why you can't connect, only thing I can think of is the server is stressed but they patched it yesterday. I have played online since Thursday flawlessly though.

What NAT type does it say you have? If you have a router, you'll ideally want NAT 2 to work effectively.

NAT 1 refers to a direct connection to the internet, such as connecting straight to your modem.

NAT 2 refers to a correctly forwarded router between your PS3 and the modem.

NAT 3 refers to an acceptably forwarded router, but may cause problems with Peer-to-Peer connections.

If you are behind a router and have access to the internal settings on it, what you might consider doing (this is what I do - works 100% perfectly) is setting up a "DMZ port" - that DMZ literally mean De-Militarized Zone. If you look through the internal settings on the router, if it's one of the newer ones within a few years, there should be an option for DMZ. Pick a port that the router doesn't automatically assign (something in the 200s would be a reasonably safe bet, but you'd be better off crosschecking against those internal settings and seeing where it starts assigning numbers at), then go in and use Manual IP Settings on your PS3, making sure the IP Address you select using the same 4th octet (the number from 0 to 255) as the number you assign to your DMZ.

This should knock you down to NAT 2, as you're effectively telling your router to let anything that wants to connect to your PS3 to do so. It's not leaving you vulnerable to hackers explicitly, but it does bypass most security features a router has that, in turn, interfere with proper connection with a PS3, such as a firewall.

Not really sure what else to say after that. This option fixed my problems instantly. Any other issues are something beyond router and modem.

Router and PS3 are NAT2... yeah I checked all that

Its also important to mention I got the update yesterday with no issues.

WHAT THE %%%%

Man I want to race online. And I don't even hear any info on this it's extremely frustrating. Thanks for the help though, I might try the DMZ.

Do you get a message about date and time settings not being correct by any chance? Myself and my housemate both couldn't get online without going out of the game and setting the date and time via the internet.

Date and Time are correct, and I do not get that message.

Man, thank you so freaggin much.
The DMZ worked.

First I tried a simple experiment -- i plugged in the PS3 directly and it got online no problem. So then I knew it was the router. I followed your instructions for the DMZ and bam...

Instant gt5 online. Oh man I did a little dance.

May the racing gods bless your driving for many years!

Hell mods, you may want to sticky this.

Alright, GT5 is online, but... I can't connect to lobbies now.

It never ends does it!

Anyway...
What happens is, I try to go into a lobby and after about 15 seconds it says "A problem occurs in the lobby server error 293"

I checked the ports again, made sure UpNp was turned on on the Router, but unfortunately, the PS3 says UPNP is not available (not sure why?)

Anymore help guys? Lets go all the way!

For me, news updates etc all worked. Everything except going to "Open Lounge" where I got "network is unavailable". All other games and PS network work fine. I forwarded ports mentioned in the game manual and it worked - but I haven't tried connecting to a lobby yet. If I have a similar issue i'll post here. Good luck!

Yeah same here man, after creating the DMZ I am able to connect fine to everything except Lobbies. A quick google confirms I am not the only one with this issue -- but nobody seems to have a response.

Lets just hope for a quick fix.
