I just golded the Nascar Series Championship but couldn't finished the last race; the ten lap Daytona. I had a comfortable lead so I could afford to skip it, but now I wanna complete it to gain up on level. The thing is that the race is driving me crazy!! Everytime I get the lead or near the lead some car comes from behind, bump my car and I start spinning like crazy and getting complete off from a chance to at least finish the race. It's ridiculous. Could someone help me giving tips on how to beat this race? Thanks!

well the daytona events in the nascars seam to unfold pretty reallisticly. you dont want to be in first on the last lap and you need a pusher. To be honest though they ruined the nascar series for me, buy locking the asm on, wth PD really...... but yeah get some one behined you going in to turns 3 and 4 and hope for the best is all you can do.

If you put the ABS completely off (0) ASM seems to be off also.. helped me win! B-spec nascar daytona event is where im having serious issues!

Turn off the ABS to 0 so you don't have ASM. That's the first step.

You'll have to block on the straights if you're out front. Without the draft or someone behind you to bump draft you you'll get swamped before the corner. Just drive with your rear view mirror and try to keep them behind you. They'll bump you pretty hard because they've got a lot more speed plus a car behind them pushing, so you need to be ready for it.

You could also hang behind them and share in the bump drafting, but then you might get spun out, it's really hard to drive 3 wide and not crash.

you sure turning the abs off disabels the ASM?

ehm pretty damn sure.. why not try it.. I found it out first when i couldnt get the gold on one of the Jeff Gordon nascar challenges by like 0.0030 and even lower sometimes so then i changed this and literally won by seconds.

I had trouble with this too, untill i turned ALL the aids off
I also ran the INSIDE line the whole race even down the straights once i was in front nobody could pass me in the turns, here's the setup i used to make it turn well enough to run on the yellow inside line
down force front 20 back 60
transmission max speed 255
suspension ride hieght front -20 back -20
wheel alignment camber angle front 3.5 rear1.0
they will catch you on the straights but you should be able to zoom ahead thru the corners, hope this helps

From another thread:

This is doable the way I mentioned with a showroom stock car with only an oil change. No need to adjust aero, gearing, or purchase softer tires. All I did was trace the yellow line near the apron with my left tires. No fuss, no muss.

Paused before crossing the line:

1. Purchase an oil change.
2. If you have a DFGT, turn off the ASM with your dial thingamabob. If you have any other wheel or use the DS3, do this (from 0010111 at GameSpot forums):

I haven't seen this talked about yet on this board, and I bet there are a lot of people unaware of this function if you haven't read the manual in depth or explored the controller configuration menu.

The RA Menu allows you to tune some aspects of your car while you're actually on the track. You can adjust Traction Control, Stability Management, Anti-lock braking, 4WD distribution, and Brake Bias; and best of all you can change your adjustments throughout the race. Unlike the quick-tune menu that has to be unlocked, the RA Menu can be accessed at any time.

First, you've got to set your controller up for RA Access. I reccommend assigning the R3 button to "(RA function) Show Menu" and then assigining up and down on the control pad to "(RA function) Select+/-." Then all that's left is to assign left and right on the control pad to "(RA function) Adjust -/+"
(TIP: When all buttons are assigned, the symbols should read +, -, -, + from top to bottom or you'll have the adjustments backwards)

Now it's as simple as pressing R3 during a race to bring up your new RA Menu, and then using the control pad to quickly and easily make adjustments during a race. Enjoy.

This was a very, very easy series - which disappointed me greatly as I was looking forward to this series most of all in GT5. I can't blame it on super-tuning my car this time! I really thought these races would be close considering the identical performance of each car, but the whole pack (12, why not 16?) stayed glued together about 5 seconds behind me the entire series. :(

I did get spun a few times on the first laps, but it was SO EASY to catch up it only took one lap or less.

I will have to re-try this with a crippled car somehow, maybe lower the top speed or pick rain tires?

What did you use?

I'll give all you GTP-Memebers/Guests/Nascar-Fans my knowledge in Nascar car set up as i have been to the race tracks for 6 years and stepped inside these loud machines lots of times...(Note that Nascar is all about suspension set up since you can not modify the cars)

For GT5 automobile setup for Nascar @ Daytona:
-First off, if you drove your new car (NascarStockCar) before changing the oil first, you have screwed up already, because now, your car will always have 850HP instead of 891HP boost.
(Also note that all of the toyotas get more HP boost than chevys or fords)

-Raise the front end all the way up in height (To avoid losing speed from bottoming out) (Plus, in real life, front height rules of the official nascar rule book state that all cars have a front height limit due to everyone wanting to raise the front end because the splitter does not allow you lower the car without it bottoming out)
-Lower the rear end to -15 in height (To lose drag)
-Camber is unfortunatelly useless in GT5 Oval racing as you can not adjust each tire individually and so one side will not grip and will wear out very rapidly...the other bad thing to camber in one side acting negatively is that it destroys your car set up on ovals if set up higher than 3.9 degrees.
-Spring pressure to 18.5
-Dampers to 8-4F 8-4R
-Set your gear ratios to higher than 336mph if your planing to draft, or 224mph if your going by yourself (Ex. Qualifing).
-ABS set to off
-No traction control.
-Downforce of 35front and 55rear. (funny how in real life, Nascar does not allow any team to adjust the rear spoiler at daytona, but in GT5, you can)
-Set the brake bias to 2front 2rear as youll probably only need a tiny bit.
-And most importantly, Set the LSD Acceleration&InitialTorque to 60 if you dont want to spin out at high speeds on corner exits...Its better than traction control because you dont lose power, but you do lose acceleration on exits of roadcourses with tight turns.

If you have followed this car set up, winning at daytona should be easy because your car/driver can now run 217mph full throttle right next to the yellow line and get away from the pack for easy carrier/online wins. Oh, and dont forget smooth driving when you turn, it really matters.

No use guys. I have really tried every tip you gave me, but to no use. Still getting spun over and over at every intent I make. And it's funny that its ONLY at this race event; the 10 lap Daytona (the last of the Nascar Series in Extreme Level). It's getting to the point of pure frustration. I even slammed my controller to the floor. It was a miracle it didn't broke. Anyways, thanks guys. I really appreciate your tips even though I couldn't put good use to them.

Turning OFF the Traction control and turning the ABS control down to 0 from 1 will help you maintain speeds through the corners making it hard for the drafting cars behind you. You do this right before the race/challenge (driving options). Doing this also is the key to winning the Jeff Gordon Special event Advanced challenges. Good Luck!

Just wanted to add my thanks to DEADLIST for his tips. I didn't exactly cruise at 217 along the apron, but I did win, and I led every lap doing it. :)

ABS-0
no down force for max speed
lowered top speed to 234

rode yellow line and stayed out front. they would catch me at the entrance to turns but bump me to top speed through the turn, so i was able to stay out front away from the pack.
