I've created a poll to decide what the status of Spa will be for the season. 3 options in the poll, "I have it", "I don't have it but plan on getting it", "I don't have it and don't plan on getting it". Please cast your vote so we can make a decision about our season finale.

ORCA Zcup Spa DLC Poll

Also, the ORCA Drivers Club is now operational. We will use this thread to discuss anything going on in the SpecRace, SpotRace and CappCup lounges and should keep this thread fairly focused on Alfa topics. If you plan on opening one of the lounges for some racing or want to discuss some possible mini-events feel free to post in that thread so we can get some discussion going and keep the thread active.

I should be free this evening, we could do some Alfa practice or some spot racing in one of the other lounges.

Thought I'd share some of my "booty" from the holidays that you guys might enjoy. :)

And as a bday present to myself I finally inverted my G27 pedals......and love it! :)

Necessary double-post:

So far the Spa poll shows everybody that voted (13) has Spa, so things are looking good for keeping it as the finale track. I really hope we get to keep it on the schedule and it looks like that shouldn't be a problem. There's a chance one or two people may not have it, but since we're able to drop 2 full rounds it won't count against them if they have to miss it (and hopefully they wouldn't be too upset at being excluded). 👍

Make that 13 with Spa. ;)

You are about to enjoy one of best comedic actors ever.

Obviously he has his own style. Very funny. Cocaine induced fat dude = OMG

^ Best taken in small doses though. He pretty much plays the same character in every movie he's in, kinda like Will Ferrell.

Totally agree. I don't think I've ever seen or done a Farely Marathon.

Any Alfa action tonight?

I'd be up for some Alfa racing in a couple hours. The season does start next week, need to get some final practice in!

Just got home from dinner, would be up for some racing... I should have a fine set of beer goggles tied on here soon.

I need to get time in with the G27, I'll be there :D

Make that one more who has Spa. I may be able to sneak in a few laps later on, but I cannot say for sure.

Sounds good. I'm fixing some dinner now, should be on around 8pm EST but you guys can hop in the lounge when ever you want.

I'll drop by, only a week away and I'm still a couple of seconds off the pace, so I don't need the practice as that is my normal pace.

I'm hoping in the ORCA Champ lounge now if anybody wants to join for some Alfa practice.

Why not? Have you sent an invite?

EDIT: You're on the ORCA_Champ friends list, you should be able to get in

A quick update on the Spa poll, 18 people have the track, 1 person doesn't but plans on getting it and 0 don't have it/don't plan on getting it. So I think it's safe to say that Spa WILL remain on the schedule as the season finale enduro. I'm sure that's good news to all of us. :) We did a race there last night and it was quite fun (even though I spun on cold tires during the first lap :dunce: )

So everything is full steam ahead for the season to start this coming Tuesday, January 3rd. I'm looking forward to a very exciting season and I really think we're going to see some incredible racing with these cars and these drivers. 👍

I look forward to being at the back of the pack! I must say, it's something I'm not used to.

It took my about 2-3 weeks to get used to the wheel so that my times started to get back to where they were, but about another week or two after that my times tumbled.

It is totally worth relearning the game to use a wheel.

+1 It's like apples and oranges. It's bizarre to think you could have 10x more fun even though your quite a bit slower (at first), but it's true! Eventually you'll have even finer control of everything and be able to do things you never could before.

Welcome to the club!

if you have any real world racing experience then the wheel is like taking a breath it just comes naturally!!! as soon as i plugged in mine it was like night and day, could never use a remote to race just wouldn't be right.

Set feedback to 10 and try to drive with least steering input. That's an advice I think helped me get used to the wheel. Not sure it's gonna help you, since I never drove with the pad, but still, who doesn't like giving advice?

^ I recommend turning power-assisted steering ON as well, you only notice it when you make really quick turns of the wheel but it makes it much easier to correct for rear-end sliding. 👍

Going from Dan's and Brandon's posts, I had a look at my wheel setup: Force feedback was set to 5 and power steering was off. First off, power steering really 'tightens' up my wheel (DFGT) and makes it feel a lot more realistic. I also upped the force feedback to 8 but don't really notice much difference. Mind you, I've also had a look at Yuri's bungee cord mod for the DFGT pedals and must say it really makes a difference. Throttle control is so much more realistic and it is now a lot easier to balance the throttle. Braking takes some getting used to but there is so much more feel there.

Our first race night is fast approaching and I need some serious practise time. I was going to suggest a full practise session on Saturday, in the Alfa Cup time slot (3pm EST, 8PM GMT) but then realised that it is New Year's Eve.

So, anyone got any suggestions on when to try to have a practise session? Early Sunday morning? :)

Monday would suit and I can open the ORCA lounge about 8pm GMT. I should be able to do this on Friday evening as well.

^ Not sure what my schedule is going to be this weekend. I'm supposed to go to the Indy Auto Show either Saturday or Sunday and I'll be partying it up with friends Saturday night. Whichever day I don't go to the Auto Show I'll be up for a thorough Alfa practice session, should know later today so I'll make an update when I know for sure.

Tonight, however, I will be looking to do some 500-550pp racing in the ORCA_SpotRace1 lounge. I should be available around 7pm EST, we can do several 5-10 lap races at different tracks, just for fun. If you're interested in racing, please post in the ORCA Drivers Club Thread so we can try to round up some other drivers to join us.

Last bit of business, the Spa DLC poll shows 20 people have the track, 1 plans on getting it and nobody is without it. So Spa will officially remain as the season finale and it looks like nobody will have to miss out on it. 👍

^ That's what I was afraid of: Everyone will be partying this weekend so Monday would probably be the best night for practise. Mind you, I'm not in work on Monday so we could have a daytime practise session if anyone is up for that.

Now this all has me thinking about my wheel. I know my force feedback is pretty high, probably around 7 (go figure...my lucky number), not sure about the power assist. Where is that located, in the same area as the force feedback settings?

Yuri/Johnny/Tim, do you have pictures of what you did with bungee cords, keep hearing about this, interested in checking it out.

There are numerous postings around the interwebs on the bungee cord mod. There's one here on GTPlanet, from which this image is taken:
pedals.002.jpg

The bungees I have are way too long so I tied off part of the length and then simply looped the cord around the pedal. I've not twisted either bungee yet, but obviously for more resistance, put a few twists in it.

Hmm, I might play around with some ideas with the cords. I keep my feet on the bottom 1/2 to 2/3 of the pedal. I might be able to have the bungee cord on the top of the pedal coming back towards my steering wheel. Might give a better feel and keep things out of the way. Thanks for the pic.

Ordered three 23" 1080p monitors today. Should be here the second week of January. :)

Anybody up for racing tonight? 500-550pp in the SpotRace lounge?
