Yes, therefore it will NOT be the Altima. That is their mid-size sedan, no way they would put a V8 in it.

I'm not sure if the Car of the Future regulations dictate that the base model of car has to have a V8 engine available. I'm pretty sure that rule was put into place to discourage other manufacturers from entering between 1994 and 2012.

Perhaps in America. But I do believe that the Australian version of the Maxima is being replaced by the Altima. And it may be a completely different car to the Altima sold in America. For example, this is the Nissan Maxima, as sold in America. But the Maxima Australia gets is known as the Teana in the US. I believe we may actually be getting the American Maxima here, but sold under the Altima name.

Whatever the case, we should know in about three weeks. Nissan have said they want to annouce the model they will enter with before the Clipsal 500 (or, more likely, at the Clipsal).

But then again, back to what I posted before, Nissan says this car will be "all new" so there's a chance it won't be the Maxima either.

I'd bet it's an "all new car". Especially since they plan on selling it in the US.

Yes. But the car they sell has to be sold in Australia since it's an Australian series. So It's going to be a new car to the Australian market first and foremost.

Also, some people have noticed that the silver on the Garry Rogers Motorsport Commodores is almost identical to the silver commonly used by Chrysler:

Maybe it's just me but I'm not seeing the similarity. One looks to be a tan/champagne color and the other is a graphite.
 
Im curious as to see what vehicle Nissan will run .
 
That doesn't mean that the car will be new to the American market. It's an Australian series, so it will be new to Australia first.
 
If it's not all new, then it'll be the Maxima. (or a variation there of) I would be surprised if they rebadge the Maxima and call it the Altima. Doesn't seem like something Nissan would do.

Doubt it. If you're talking about the first race, V8 Supercars won't be here until 2013.

But you have to remember that we're talking about the Australian market here. Although V8 Supercars gets coverage in America, it is an Australian series. Whatever car Nissan chooses will be relevant to the Australian market first and foremost. While there is a round planned for the Circuit of the Americas, Nissan aren't going to base their choice of car on whichever model will be most-recognised at one race meeting on the other side of the world.

Yeah. And if you look at the dates, the round listed as TBA is scheduled for the 11th of November. The United States Grand Prix takes place on the 18th.

I'd imagine it will probably be a round at another Middle Eastern circuit.

What I'm trying to get at is that it doesn't matter what badges are on the car, it should be the same in both countries. (save for left/right hand drive) Right now all we can do is speculate, but I'd put money on it being a completely re-designed Maxima or a whole new sedan.
 
I'd think they'd use the Skyline sedan
http://www2.nissan.co.jp/SKYLINE/ since it is already a good RWD platform and its sold elsewhere as an Infiniti G37 but.. on that note it woulnt make since to do that since as an Infiniti it would.nt be recognisable as a Nissan.
id put my on this vehicle actually not the name pursay but the platform itself renamed and redesigned and marketed internationaly of cource.

The Skyline sedan is not sold in Australia.
 
The rules for Car of the Future dictate that if a manufacturer wants to use a particular car, then they must sell 10,000 road-going vehicles per year - it must be homologated. Since the Skyline is not sold in Australia, then Nissan would have to introduce it in 2012 and sell 10,000 units in order to race it. That's a big risk, because if they don't sell 10,000 cars, then they won't be allowed to use that car. And any sales of the Skyline GT-R will not count, because the GT-R is a two-door car. It's far more likely that Nissan will introduce a new model of an existing car (like a 2012 Maxima) from their current range, since bodywork upgrades do not mean the manufacturer has to start from zero.

Long story short, no matter how much Nissan could use the Skyline, they won't.

I dont know what the regulations are but the new car wil have the same race chassis as the Ford and Holden and Nissan has great V8's so bolting an engine and body panels is no problem.

I should've clarified a bit better - the production model needs to feature a V8 engine.

When i said i didnt know the reg's thats the part i wasnt shure on .
im a huge nissan fan so all this makes me really excited to see this new car and have more of a reason to watch the V8's

The public doesn't know what car it is, just that it will be an all new model (whether it's all new to the Australian market or worldwide is unknown). Basically, it has to be a RWD V8 sedan. 👍

Thanks for the info that has been the best yet and makes me look forward to 2013. For some reason I really hoped all racing series for the 2012 would have something great. But it seems 2013 and 2014 are the years to watch any motor racing for the big series around the world.

The four-door. Two-door cars are ineligible to enter V8 Sueprcars. Exactly which model of car Nissan intend to use will be revealed some time in the next few weeks, but it is believed that they will use the Australian version of the Maxima or the Altima.

Hope it looks good. Oh and since it is nissan I think this is the ticket Aussies needed for several cars to enter the GT platform.

I'm sure if a Nissan V8 super is revealed GT will have it sometime down the road due to the biggest partner they have being nissan to PD.

V8 Supercars cannot enter GT racing. It's a completely different set of regulations.
