Why are there now off-track shortcut penalties in seasonals?

For one the penalties don't need to exist. Does it make sense to abandon a game completely because of a single problem? Only about as much sense as it makes to jump out of a plane because there is a smudge on the window.

If the penalties are a hassle, then people should be telling PD so they don't have to deal with them. A-Spec is not the center of GT5 for a lot of people. I didn't spend money to sit behind AI traffic jams in a station wagon. I'd much rather be racing the advertised car list against actual drivers. Having to grind just to get cars was already a pain because it detracts from that. Adding something completely pointless like penalties does not help.

Well obviously PD thinks they do need to exist, we had penalties in the previous games and i always thought they were a pointless hassle, until i became a better driver and learned how avoid them.

I enjoy all aspects of the game and am happy to see penalties finally show up in GT5, PD will hear no such complaints from me.

That doesn't mean it needs to exist.

We had them in one game. I beat every event that had them. They were pointless and didn't add anything to the game. I also never use them online since they aren't needed for clean driving and can be abused by dirty drivers. This has nothing to do with skill.

Then you can keep them on. And not raising concerns when PD messes up is the worst thing you can do for the game.

I've got no issues with the penalties if PD want to put them in well that's up to them. The issues I do have sometimes are the collision penalties, I've clipped other cars and had a 5 second penalty - fair enough. I've had other cars T bone me or knock me off track (leading to a 5 second short cut penalty) and they just carry on as if nothing has happened!

Winds me up lol! :)

My biggest issue so far is that there is that there is no way for the penalties to use the context of the incident before handing one out. I got off base going into the first chicane at Sarthe that resulted in me taking the left corner very wide. As I was working to correct myself, my new line had me clipping the right corner on the way out. Due to my mistake, I had already lost as much time and speed as the penalty would have given me, and then I get stuck with the penalty anyway.

Agree, I've had that too. Run wide, lose time and then when trying to correct it get another 5 seconds on top. I've actually reversed before now so I don't cut a corner and end up with a further penalty lol!

If people are complaining that these penalties are just a hassle and they are not having fun anymore because of them, then why not go play a hassle free game that is nothing but fun.

Either that, or learn how to avoid the penalties by becoming a better driver.
Your definition of a better driver. One that I don't share.

It's PD's fault, but you're not right in saying what they're at fault for. If they don't understand that making a game boring does not make a game fun, then there is nothing to hope for. Making it more difficult to enjoy the game is not a bright idea.

Bottom line, PD forgot how to make great games... 👎

Kwicko
Nah, Indy is *very* cutable - there are four or five places where you can really make up time by going cross-country, and there's no penalty. I tried out straight-lining a couple places at Motegi as well, and no penalties there either. For whatever reason, it's just LeMans and Spa, at least so far.

Well that's a bummer. I hope PD come to their senses and make every track have penalties in seasonal.

I ran the 750 seasonal yesterday to see what all the fuss was about. Got a couple off track penalties on Spa and Sarthe in the usual places. If you've ever done a TT or run online w/penalties then they should be no surprise. Made contact with the AI several times but got no penalties. I'm guessing you need to hit 'em pretty hard to get one. Someone complained about getting rear ended by an AI and receiving a penalty. Rear ended by an AI, really? C'mon man.

So the big complaint is you can't cut the tracks or slam the AI? So really...is that so bad in what is called an "Expert Challenge"? I guess people will complain about whatever, I'm HATING Forced SRF for instance in something deemed "Expert".

Mario Kart Wii nah, Mario Kart 7 ftw (sorry for going off-topic ).

I remember GT3 where the money was so hard to get unless if you wanted to sell your cars. GT5 does have annoyingly, massive grinding especially if your trying to get to Lv.40 in seasonals (finally got there but it was so annoying).

Good to know others have felt the wrath of Bob also. Anyways good for PD to change things up a bit these days, doesn't have to be same old same old all the time 2+ years later. Commenting on earlier posts, I doubt PD would care if people earned too many bonus credits on th Seasonals after all they setup the system and this was some kind of reaction. If all races had the penalties it would be a negative, but once in awhile Ok!

I'm not against penalty, but how it implemented is totally wrong!
If you run off the track because of late braking, you will get penalty too. That's ridiculous! I've lost the time already by returning from grass with poor control and BAM - penalty.
If you get off the track on asphalt side-way - also penalty. If AI suddenly brakes early then either you will get penalty because of ram into this slow AI, or get penalty because you try to overtake slightly (2 wheels) off-road.
It's stupid and annoying penalty system! If take in account that i'm starting from the last place then it become even worse.

I liked GT5 because of freedom of riding. Natural penalties like poor control and low speed when off-road is fine, but how it looks now is a crap! Now it's more far from real racing system...

Once enjoying seasonal events, it's dead for me now. :( Damn PDI! Now i have no any motivations to play GT5 at all...

Well, time to take rest till GT6.

How on earth can they hope to make the game more realistic when the cars sound like vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers and hedge trimmers.
