I did a search and didn't find a similar thread, so forgive me if this has already been discussed.

In GT1, you were able to do qualification rounds to determine your place on the starting grid or decide to skip qualifying at all and start the race in last place. GT2, GT3, and GT4 all did away with qualifying for the most part, which was still okay because there were only ever 5 other cars to overtake at a time.

But now, with the addition of 10 more cars to the track in GT5, I think it is unacceptable to always have to be in the last position at the start of a race by default; especially if it is a rolling start. GT5 is a large jump in realism compared to its predecessors, and I feel that PD has no excuse not to add such an easily implemented feature and necessary feature into GT5.

Commence discussion.

I hope qualifiy will be inserted.
I don't use it every time, but sometimes it can come in handy.

There was a qualifying feature in GT4 for the championships (not for single races) and it worked quite well. I'm sure there will be qualifying for GT5 as well. Helped alot with the races with rolling starts if your using a dodgey car to qualify near the front.

Yeah it kind of sucks to be last every time and since the new AI is supposedly more competitive its only fitting that the player gets a chance to start higher up in the grid.

I voted all races! Think there has been one of these already!

Yes, this should absolutely be a part of the game. And a credit prize for getting pole position (ala GT1) should be a part of it too.

all should have qualy option

Option to qualify only for championship races
or for 15 lap plus racing

because it is pointless to qualify for a 5 lap race. The AI is usually bit weaker there anyways.

Which is why there should be a little extra incentive for qualifying - i.e. a fairly decent cash prize.

Though for shorter races there should only be one lap of qualifying.

(why do I find that GT1 had the best qualifying system ever?)

I would at least like to see the option, for all races that is.

Qualifying only in on-line races, there is no point in doing that off-line against AI

My words exactly. 👍

If it was in there as an option, and you were suitably rewarded for getting pole position (aside from that being the goal), then yes, I'd be happy for the feature to be in the game.

Would definitely love to see to option to qualify for every race.

indeed, starting from last for every race is beyond tiresome.

just been playing f1:ce and the testing and qualy parts are just a massive part of the race weekend, hopefully GT5 will go a few more steps towards that.

This 👍

qualify for all races.. they can help to win hard races

Qualifiy for all races/modes-career, arcade, online

Qualifying is more important for short races since starting position matters more as race length is decreased. If a race is short enough (unreasonably short or there is a very large grid over a small distance) it can become nearly impossible to win.

In general public races I think qualifying would take too long, but they could do something with the TT rankings so that the guys that have top spots in TT could start up front.

I am all for qualifying, and GT5 should keep track of number of pole positions:tup:

Of course,qualifying for every race.

Qualifying should be for every race.

I would prefer qualifying for shorter races, as there isn't as much time to take over the lead, but for longer races it won't make much difference.

I wouldn't say no to this being reinstated.

It's clear that since we have more than 6 cars on the grid, chasing the leader must take it's time and it gives you some handicap.

I've said it before, but I really want qualifying because GT5P made me feel like I was in one big license test. It wasn't about racing, it was about winning. And I don't want to have that kind of pressure every race. I want to relax, I want to enjoy being in a car, racing against other cars, on beautiful tracks.

Same reason I don't like damage. The only reason it's in RL is because of the laws of physics. We have an environment where we can get rid of it and you want to put it in anyways! If Kaz does damage I better have the right to turn it all off. They've sold millions of GT games without damage, I don't see the reason to implement it now.

Sometimes too much of the weekend actually :grumpy:

Qualifying is half the race. I've not had my PS3 long and have recently been playing Wipeout. It is SO annoying starting from last every single race. Sure it makes it a bit more challenging, but it's like a forced handicap. Why should I start from the back when I've won so many races before starting this one?

Even online I would welcome qualifying. How tense would it be to know that you cannot screw up, that your lap must be perfect, that in every corner you need to shave a few hundredths of a second off your competitors?

Some racing games do "handicaps" by putting the best racers at the back of the grid, but this is GT, it's meant to be a sim. Three laps, or even one lap with a rolling start isn't too much to ask for. Hell, even make it a lobby option for "qualifying lap" if they must. Just imagine this: Qualifying starts, everyone is qualifying at the same time. You're doing a good lap thinking "hey I'm doing well" then a +0.00.56 pops up. You're behind by half a second. Don't know about you but for me nerves would kick in, I'd think maybe whoever is beating me might screw up on that chicane near the end. That would be awesome.

Even when that is done, you still have the proper race afterwards. It's like 2 races in one. PD can't really lose. As long as it is an option!

(also, 1st post, long time lurker yadda yadda!)
