Since the arrival of FIII my thinking on the release of GT5 has changed some what. Comparing GT5P and FIII from solely a cockpit driving perspective they are very similar (especially once you use the multiscreen FOV trick to obtain a GT5P like view by setting the viewing angle at around 72), for 90% of gamers the two are much of the same.

This is why to me it is probably even more important than PD don't rush the release the GT5 and instead look to maximise the aspects that will seperate GT5 from FIII. To me those are damage modelling, day/night cycles and weather.

Because if it were to release now it would really be equivalent to a DLC add-on of tracks and cars to Forza.

Things I hope PD bring from Forza are HUDless cockpit view, in race telemetry, custom sound tracks, equivalent online experience (not comparing apples with apples but the ease of getting in and out of an online race in FIII v GT5P is poles apart so I'm hoping GT5 raises the bar significantly), aggressive and varied AI competitors for example M.Rossi in FIII has already developed community angst for his aggressive and dirty racing style. I'm not into painting but the community side of FIII is a strong point to many, and also the use of auction house.

My point probably is I'm happy to wait another 6 months for GT5 since I've had FIII, because I don't want just more of the same, in the hope that PD can deliver something that raises the bar in SIM console racing besides better graphics and more cars.

As an aside can anyone let me know which game has the more realistic looking Suzuka as visually they look very different between GT5P and FIII. FIII has much more green foliage, and also the city in the distance looks good and also there appears more crowd or action, ferris wheel moving for example. GT5P looks much more sparse but is that the way it is in real life? On first play too I felt the elevation changes on the first section of the course were different and also some of the corners appear easier to take in FIII mainly the chicanes a third in and then once again the curved chicane just before the bakc straight. If I took them in GT5P how you cna take them in in FIII I'd be in the sand.

Suppressed my appetite? Oh no. It sure will make the wait seem much shorter though.

But yeah, Suzuka is stunning in Forza 3. Dunno which game has the more realistic version. While I think I might actually like the lush F3 version more, I wouldn't be surprised if GT5P had the more realistic rendition.

If my 360 didn't made a sound like a vacuum cleaner, if Xbox Live was free, and if I could hook my DFGT on my 360 I would surely get it. But that's not going to happen, so no, FM3 doesn't suppress my appetite for GT5.

I doubt someone will say it indeed has. The story doesn't end yet, GT5 has to be released. And no matter what, I'm sure everyone wants to see this four chapter long story come to an end after so long.

My reaction is funny. On the one hand, I'm hungrier than ever for GT5. But on the other, it makes waiting for it almost enjoyable. Forza 3 is a nice game and really deserves some attention, and if GT5 were out, I probably wouldn't give it a sniff.

But I do agree with you, which I'm sure will make a bunch of GT5 fans cringe: delay it as long as necessary, so it's as superb and perfect as is humanly possible. And for pity's sake, give us race mod and a livery editor. I'd hate to think that Forza would enable me to create a wealth of personal race cars, but GT5 not.

Hugo, you've got it spot on for me.

Until last weekend I've been dedicated to Sony with PS1, PS2, PS3, GT1, GT2, GT3, GT4 and GT5P. I bought a PS3 two years ago solely for GT5. Sony has made plenty of money out of me in the meantime via me buying other games and PS Store content so the GT franchise has benefited them far more than just my purchase of GT5P. But last weekend, fed up with the wait for GT5 I went out and bought an Xbox and Forza 3.

I like Forza 3. It's good. It's very good. Many things are better than GT5P, some worse. However, I fully expect GT5 to be blow Forza 3 away with the rumoured features - physics improvements, better graphics, day/night, weather, head tracking, Nascar, Rally etc. But until I can actually buy GT5, whenever that may be, Forza 3 will keep me happy.

So now, although I'm still greatly looking forward to GT5 I'm not so concerned about the 'slipping' (taking into account there has been none actually announced) release date. I hope they take their time, ensure the quality and take a look and learn from Forza 3 to ensure that all of the nice features (at least to me) get included in GT5 - the detailed telemetry, the AI, the game progression, the community features.

The reward for our patience will come...

Yes, I honestly don't care when GT5 comes out now because I foresee Forza keeping my racing video game fix for a very long time. Granted I will have numerous other games sprinkled in there as well.

M.Rossi's back? Then I can wait at least a year to get my PS3 and GT5.

It can fill the gap between GT5 release that's for sure, Even though it has some few flaws it's still a hell of a great game.

Off topic, anyone here notice the body roll in Forza 3? It looks weird to see it in replay, is that the physics fault?

This has been my question for a while now.
How realistic is Forza 3 to call it a sim?

I got Forza 3 a couple days before release (thankyou Blockbuster and RM strike ) and played the hell out of Forza 2 as well. If I'm being honest though, playing Forza 3 just makes the long wait until March for GT5 even more painful.

Those transitions while drifting look highly suspicious and unnatural. It's a mix between arcade and sim physics.
