The 2009 GT Planet V8 Supercar Series - Race 3 - Suzuka East

Race Length & Information: Class 1 - 22 laps, Class 2 - 11 Laps
This round is a sprint race, so you can use both hard and soft tyres, but you can only use one set of soft tyres in the race. (no mixing of tyres allowed)

Points: 1st: 10, 2nd: 8, 3rd: 6, 4th: 5, 5th: 4, 6th: 3, 7th: 2, 8th: 1, bonus point for fastest lap

Race Rules- Standard online rules apply
- No shortcuts and try to keep at least 2 wheels on the track at all times
- No wall-riding
- You MUST use the specifications provided
- Forced pit entry is to be used
- You must make at least 1 compulsory pitstop for tyres. If you don't make a pit stop (drive-throughs don't count) you will get a 40 second penalty
- TCS & ASM can be turned on
- AI - any level
- If you submit your time late you will recieve a 30 second penalty
- Tyre wear must be set to strong

PM me with the following details filled in before the deadline of Saturday 7th November 11:59pm GMT. Times will still be accepted until the Tuesday after the deadline, but a 30 second penalty will be applied.

Had a few mins and knocked out a race. One minor skid but stayed on the track. About a sec. No DTP's.
 
Also had some time to try out a race or two ( off from work with a gammy leg :grumpy:).
Did one full race with AI @ +10 to try and get some useful A- spec points, best I could manage was second as a Nissan LM concept Car refused to pit the entire Race ! That seems ridiculously unfair.
Anyway have a time plus a reasonable fastest lap in the bank even including a sand trap excursion ( just like my typical golf game really ) but no DTP's.

Will probably have a few more attempts before deadline.

Just had my first run with the AI at +10 and finished a lap behind the GT-R Concept LM car. :( Tried a 1 stopper starting out on softs and the fronts were crimson by time I pitted at the end of Lap 7. The stint on hards went nearly twice as long but grip on the fronts was gone by time Lap 20 started. Guess a change in strategy on my part is in order, huh?

Also, anyone having success with getting through the race with only 1 pit stop?

UPDATE: Second run completed with same-lap finish success after tuning down the AI to +5. :O

Yes, I was able to one stop it, I'm sure my fastest lap is not very fast, but I'm going to run a few more races to get the good out of it. Have not ran class 2 yet.
 
Well I finally found a way to beat that pesky Nissan GTR and get 200 ( Count ém :) ) A Spec points.

Set up Race with AI starting on RSS tyres and +10 speed. I started on RH and only stopped once to replace same.

Made for a more satisfying Race, avoiding AI flailing about on wearing tyres and of course they needed 2 or more stops.
Good fun.

I cannot mention my Race time but it ends in ".888"
I must be channeling Jamie Whincup :lol:
 
I also have done a one stop. This could be a good race between us "one timers".
 
Ran 2 classes this week seeing that both race series are at Suzuka/East.

My Commodore has been able to run a 59.579 on sports hard tires.

I'm trying to crack the 59 seconds barrier and then I should be done.

I can't make up my mind about which pit entrance to use.

Update:
I broke the 59 second barrier on sport hards with a nice 58.822 lap, which was about 2 tenths better than my previous record. I have called it a night and sent my results in to TheStig13.

No worries mate. I'm not sure I could do a 51.579 even in the GT mode with with an engine upgrade. I'm willing to try though.

Did everyone else having problems with the AI? I ran on six different difficulty levels, and in all cases the AI got in my way. I would catch the AI going into a corner, and just have to wait impatiently behind them so I could try to pass without bumping. I had to throw out a couple of my runs because the faster AI would bump my rear quarter panel after I made a clean pass going into a corner. Even on an easy difficulty level the AI would get in the way and I would lose a little time passing them so paint would not be traded.

Once, on a moderate difficulty level (5 or 6?), the AI in two muscle cars (the Plymouth Superbird and something else) were coming accross the track sideways as I came around to pass them a second time after my pit stop. I had to scoot between them or we would have had a major T-bone crash. They must have had nice excursions in the sand traps.

Yeah, AI were definitely a problem this race, it's hard to pass them through the esses clean, only other real place was into 1 or between 1 and two. They probably scrubbed 3 of my laps just trying to pull up through them. It's pretty much a short track with a squiggly back section haha. Bound to deal with traffic :lol:

They also ruined some of my runs by waiting to long to pit, and spinning coming on to the main straight. Or maybe they were just spinning having nothing to do with their pit stops.
 
I took the easy way out. Set it at -10. Past them by the first turn. Only had to deal with them all once during the race. Clear racing most of the time.
 
After the torrential conditions of Tsukuba, we were not prepared for the scorching conditions of Suzuka and the car had a major overheating problems throughout qualifying sessions . Hopefully this is all sorted and we can make a quick lap in the morning before the heat rises too much, and sneak in before Tuesday's deadline! (Sorry for not notifying you Stig13... There's a heatwave here and I've been distracted by various things, one of which being studying a couple of exams. Penalty will be fine, though no worries if I can't make that deadline either... put it down to "driver error" :lol:)

Edit: Only Class 2 run this week, and I fear the submission may have just missed the final deadline too. AI at -1, had no problems passing them by the first few corners and didn't look back. However, a lack of practice, extremely mediocre driving and possibly the worst pit timing possible means that this round is very forgettable as far as my entry goes - I think I am letting the GRM team down massively :dunce:

Fairly neat and consistent laps with only one blemish, an off road excursion, caused by my Wife tapping me on the shoulder at a critical moment.

We had a lively debate about the consequences of disturbing someone in the middle of a Race.

After a frank and open exchange of views, my wife introduced me to the concept of a "Knuckle Sandwich".Having conceded the discussion in her favour, I continued the race after a short break to retrieve my teeth from the floor.
The rest of the Race was incident free :)

Congratulations to all entrants, it was definitely a case of a one stop strategy being the right call this round.

Wow are the fastest laps for P1-5 in class two close or what? That's cool, considering this is the internet, and were not actively racing each other live. Aside from Vipers blistering full race time in class 1, the overall times are quite close as well. I need to get out of this mid field funk, maybe next time, who knows. :lol:

*In a GTPSN interview with the driver of the LSX Engineering Commodore and Camaro.*

"Both cars felt good, the Commodore felt as if it was lacking a bit of front end grip, the Camaro felt good all around the track. Just had problems in the section coming out of the esses on to the front stretch. I think we had a diecent showing, considering new equipment we've been using. We've switched to Logitech steering equipment, as well as their brakes and throttle bodys, with a new Lowe's chassis for the Camaro. It was the first time out with the new setup and it's going to take some getting used to, we've been logging lot's of miles though, and starting to feel much more confident. Overall, the cars have been MUCH more responsive since the change over from our SONY equipment. I feel more confident in the upcoming tracks, these opening few races have been tracks, or layouts I'm not totally comfortable with. Look for us to break into the top three in New York, we're hoping for the best there."

Greetings Suzuka East drivers.

I need to relinquish my first place trophy to Oldmodelt.:ouch:

I have looked at my replay and I see that one of the cars that I lapped touched my rear corner panel after my pass thru the esses. We need to throw out my time. Needless to say, my pit crew is not speaking to me since they will have to give back all the accumulated hardware they received during the winning celebrations.:grumpy:

I was able to upload a video of this bump, see my post # 22 that follows.

I have just re-run the race on level -8 difficulty (so the AI would be easier to pass) and recorded a 11.00.468 that was clean, with a best lap of 56.391 (I will try to post this race to Youtube and upload it).

TheStig13 - Can you add a 30 second penalty to my 11.00.468 time for submitting it late?

Sorry for the confusion, I thought that I had checked the replay, but obviously I had not.

Here is the video of my clean race that I ran on Tuesday with a time of 11.00.468 You can see that I am extra careful when I lap all the backmarkers.

It is my understanding that minor bumps or "Rubs" as NASCAR likes to call them are an acceptable part of racing. As long as the DTP wasn't activated it shouldn't be a problem. I happily accept my second place finish in class 2.

If you really feel guilty. :guilty: Skip the next race (along with everyone else) and I can win by attrition. :gtpflag:

However, I have been trying to run these races completely clean, without any AI touches. I have even been slowing down if I did not think a clean pass could be made (speeding up would be an option too, but I leave that manuever to Austin343 or East).

So I would rather accept a 30 second penalty if this is acceptable to the race stewards (ie. TheStig13).

Its my mistake for not checking the replay.

I might be able to post a video of the lap where the offending impact occurs, so you can all see my transgression.

Update:
I've been able to upload the last part of my 11.03.377 race. The AI in the white Nissan Skyline HT2000 GTR '70 takes issue with my pass and decides to turn in before I am clear and hits my right rear fender.

My Commodore shruggs off this impact, and continues on to lap the blue MG TF160 just up the road, and finish the race without a blown tire from the fender rub.

I agree with oldmodelt, if you watch the real V8 Supercars you will see contact is part and parcel of the racing.
I think that being collected by mindless AI after a valid passing move should not be cause for disqualification certainly not in a long Race ( one lap time trial trying to set a fastest lap is a different matter as we would all agree ).
Especially if you do not gain any advantage by the contact it should be accepted as part of a Race with AI involved.
Also as there is no specific rule saying any contact is disallowed I should say leave it up to our fearless leader to decide by acting as race steward.

As it happens I also try to avoid any contact and off road excursions, but if it were to happen the penalty system is in place to be the in race arbiter if you like.

Viperin - I agree that there is quite a bit of fender rubbing in the real V8 Supercars. They are quite fun to watch.

However, I still think that some penalty must be imposed. While the impact was slight (see my post # 22 above, I have been able to upload the end of the race), I did gain an advantage because I did not slow down enough to cleanly get by the AI (or go around on the outside). Perhaps a full second or even two were gained.

I have been able to upload my "clean" race that was run after the deadline (see my original post # 20). Thanks to your tips I have recorded and uploaded the entire 11 1/2 minutes. There's just a little acceleration on the straights to reduce the overall time.:)

:lol: Makes me wonder how many of the real-life racers drive with a mouthpiece in their mouths. Who know what the teeth go through when they get into a wreck.

There's no need to give you a penalty over a small bump from a lapped AI car. As the old saying goes, 'rubbing's racing'. If there was a need for the penalty, the game would have given you a drive through penalty.
