In photo mode walking around today I zoomed right in and spotted this guy in a boat:

If you look between the buildings after the start line and the ones at turn one you can see him off in the distance. Is it the Black Stig paddling back from the aircraft carrier? Or is it the guy from Trial Mountain? Or just Mays fishing?

Sorry if this is somewhere else but I did a search & couldn't find it!!

Funny huh?

When walk past the buildings after the start line look right at the end of them. Zoom right in with the camera and you can see a 'lake' in the distance...

Oh sorry. i didnt know pd was coming so i took a ride on my boat.

Okay, so I checked this out and here's my shot:

Now, this left me wondering how it came to be that there's a guy in a boat there. I wondered if perhaps there might be a body of water near the track, so I hopped onto Google Earth. As it turns out, there isn't any water nearby. There's a small roadway and then trees where that boat appears.

I should note that in the photo there's a big blob beneath the boat, and that isn't water. There should be ground there but none is rendered, so we're seeing the skybox.

Here's the area in Google Earth:

Here's an explanation of the perspective and location of the boat:

So, it would appear that the boat is just sitting off the side of that little road.

Hmmm.... that boat looks like a standard though.

They're upgrading it for the next patch.
They're still working on the interior, though. They want to make it as realistic as possible.
Wait till you see the detail on the 'in-boat' view!

Nice! I'm trying to post a pic of the lochness monster and fishing boat in GT4, but it seems I've misplaced them. :(

Looking on google earth there appears to be a few streams nearby but none seem large enough for a boat. Perhaps it's a pool thats formed, as the reflections do seem to match the trees.

Nessies in GT5 too!

As for the Top Gear boats, it seems a little random! As with Nessie, the Monkey and now this is it PD's way of showing it has a sense of humour!!

Are you guys being serious?

It's a joke put in by the developers.

Do we really need to get on to Google Earth and measure the exact width and incline of the run off of the secondary mail route to see of there is enough gravity generation that Jeremy Clarksons piss stream from behind the tree with the crooked branch is of proper viscosity to support a boat with James May, Richard, and Ben? With James and Richard laying down in the boat floor of course so you can't see them in the pic....

It's random, seems like there's a frustrated painter stuck doing backgrounds in a video game, or someone that is a fan of a certain artist, and the scene is taken from a famous painting.

Have any of you thought for a moment that maybe just maybe there actually was a guy in a boat in that very spot on the day PD took the reference shots?
