Hi,

I have a strange issue with my GT5. Everything seems fine with sounds except during Racing. I can barely hear any engine sounds in all views except the top view on the car from behind.

Does anyone know how to fix that?

I already re-installed GT5 but it didn't help :(

Are you experiencing this while driving in a pack of cars? GT5 usually equalises the sounds so that your volume doesn't go from really quiet to really loud during a race - this means while you're driving alone, your engine will be given priority as it is taking up all the "available volume", whereas when you're driving alongside another car, both engines sounds are reduced to fill that volume equally. At least that's how it seems to me.

Really bothers me sometimes with gear changes, as I hear the car next to me close to the limiter while I'm only halfway through a gear, and I accidentally shift up.

No, I know what you mean but I have a different issue. I can't hear my engine sound at all, it is really silent. When I drive alone I feel like I drive an electrical car with no sound :dunce:

But if I look back the engine sound is normal aswell as if I use the top view from behind the car...

Do you only have a stereo speaker setup? Are you driving a mid-engined / rear-engined car? If so, check your in-game audio settings and make sure you've got it set to stereo. If it's set to anything else, only those sounds in front of you will be audible.

Also, whilst you're there, select one of the theatre settings for dynamic range, it'll reduce the compression effect mentioned in the post above yours. Start with small theatre, for your ears' sake. ;)

no I have a 5 Speaker setup, but the rears are broken at the moment, may this be the reason?

Or perhaps you're driving a Tesla Roadster or a Citroën GT Road Car? Just kidding of course. I think the missing speakers may be it. Good luck with figuring it out!

My game did this yesterday. I was racing the Ferrari Seasonal in a 430 Scuderia and it was fine, but when I tried my Enzo and 458 I could hardly hear the engine, but all the other SFX were fine.

I too witnessed this problem many a times, especially on the Deep Forest Raceway track. Perhaps it is this reason why I rarely visit that cool track.

My solution: Disable ANY "Surround" Sound, including in all options, in game, XMB PS3, etc, and Force your receiver in Good 'ol trusty Stereo 2.0 , and enjoy the new awesome sounds that you've been missing for so long. I still use optical Toslink Digital cable, I just force the receiver in stereo mode. Sounds bloody fantastic. Menus, music, doppler is still all there. I think Surround on PS3 is broken. I could be wrong.

I am buying that new Onkyo 2.1 speaker system, to enhance this experience.

Its happened to me too on the 67 ferrari. if you put a turbo in it is loses its engine sound and sounds like a radio control car.

If your rear speakers are broken, the game will still be sending the sound at 5.1, you need to change the sound option for the game and the playstation from the XMB- settings, if your rear speakers are broken. Alternatively go into the settings on the amp and change it from "Dolby pro-logic" to "2 channel sterio", this will be under "Dec Mode" (decode mode). This will remove the coding for the rear speakers and only split the sound to right and left. You may still need to change settings for the game and PS3.

Thanks

I changed GT5 to stereo and now everything is fine :)

I have a similar problem with the 458 italia whilst bumping into a Enzo by accident on the Ferrari event on Rome. The car makes a buzzing noise from the engine, which overlaps the actual engine sound on higher volumes. Overhauling the engine an fixing the car body solved the sound problem.

The main problem I have different from yours is sound mixing from other engines. If my camera view is on the outward third-person view position I tend to hear other car's engine sounds drowning my own from the sides.

That is probably some sort of realistic audio design for the game but it really does kill my shift times and I tend to lose my position because of my heavy reliance on the engine pitch when to shift.

I have a soundbar setup with a 2.1 output, virtual surround sound setting (on the speaker, not the game) and an optical cable installed. Methinks I should set it to standard stereo.

I am seriously disappointed with the engine sounds themselves and their volume with bumper/roof/cockpit cam.
I don't care if it is supposed to be like that, like I had a helmet on my head, the volume is still too low.

I'm using 5.1 DTS.

The engine noises are disappointing to me in the game and I also have quiet engine volume I don't know what the deal is. I go to the settings and I can only have it set on the linear setting and I'v been using it on small theater. My PS3 settings I'm using the AV cable for audio, unfortunately my Logitech G51 only has AV to plug into so I have to use that even though its 5.1 Surround. GT5 menu music sounds great, just I don't understand the deal with the car noise, I might go back to audio through my Samsung T.V. to see if there's a difference.

It's not the stereo downmixing that's the problem. It's the dynamic range setting. Louder cars will drown yours out and the game will normalise to the loudest sound, so choose one of the theatre settings (in the game audio options) and this will open it up a bit. The idea being that if your speakers are any good, they'll still be able to put through the "low level" detail that your car's sound has become whilst still pushing the louder cars through at a higher volume. Alternatively, upgrade your exhaust to something louder :p
