This thread was full of speculations a while ago and they were incoherently scattered, so I decided to start this thread to gather and organize each of your observations.

---------------------------

Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V will be set in its fictional world of San Andreas.

San Andreas is a fictional U.S Southwestern state which includes three cites based on real U.S cities - Los Santos, (Los Angeles), San Fierro (San Francisco) and Las Venturas (Las Vegas). Rockstar has a habit of tweaking its cities, and GTA V is set in modern day, so it's possible that area names and the city's layout will change.

lossantos.png

The LOS SANTOS bit on the cop car's logo is evidence that it will be in San Andreas.

---------------------------

vapid.png

Hmm... What does it say? Vapid? Anyway that will be the new police cruiser of Los Santos.

Vapid is a made up car maker is the GTA version of Ford (Most of their Cars in IV were based off fords)

Hence why the Crown Victoria look-a-like has Vapid on it
:)

Cop license plate says San Andreas, side of the cop car says Los Santos. I really think we will be able to fly to other cities. Or they might show other cities in some of the cinemas.

Vinewood sign.

GTA III reference?!

---------------------------

fumigate.png

Another bit regarding Los Santos.

I bet there will be a bank robbery mission, just like in Vice City.

----------------------------

I'm pretty sure the blue car is, or will be, the Feltzer.

----------------------------

I read elsewhere that when San Andreas was introduced, they showed a video for each city, released a little while after each other. May happen here again if that's the case.

This.

I do like the look of the surrounding countryside though. I thought Mount Chiliad was big in GTASA but that range in the trailer is absolutely vast...

With the exception of the scenes in the countryside, i've not seen any evidence of any other city other than Los Santos/Los Angeles. The skylines and architecture are pure LA. So far...

Judging by the trailer it seems like some rural areas(present in GTA SA as the zones between SF and Los Santos) are actually modelled(@0:40 harvesting/@0:21 Mount Chiliad(?)).

--------------------------

graffiti.png

Graffiti on the wall says Los Santos.

-------------------------

dog.png

That little structure's from Vice City... But there's that "SA dog". This one may spur a fair amount of speculation.

Did anyone notice the dog on the beach at the beginning?

This would be the first GTA game to have animals right? Pets in the suburbs and wild animals in the wild...

----------------------------

beach.png

Pay attention to the poster with the word "Pleasure". The picture shows that place in the Los Santos beaches with the roller coaster and stuff. That long strip of road, yes.

beach-1.png

Odd that the two-way road is gone in the trailer.

Santa Monica pier and typical Santa Monica lifeguard hut. Santa Marina in GTA:SA.

---------------------------

Stop at 1:01, is that a Jet fighter?

jet.png

Umm yeah, must have mixed that up with the one in the ending.

-----------------------------

speedophile.png

"SPEEDO PHILE"

Sexual innuendo/reference there. And in the background of that scene must be the Los Santos Docks.

speedophile-1.png

--------------------------------

piercing.png

Aside from the convertible, can our character get piercings? Look at the background, there's a sign that says "PIERC" (the rest of the word is covered by the car), and I bet it says "PIERCINGS".

Jai
One thing that caught my eye was the folding roof on the car which appears to be styled off a V8 Vantage. Is this now a side feature while driving for cars with that ability?

EDIT - Was typing as you typed that, both thought it looked like a Vantage :P

-----------------------------

house.png

Typical design of a high-class residence in Vinewood?

That was the typical design back in SA and in real life LA too.

---------------------------

beachgym.png

How the gym would look like in Santa Marina?

--------------------------

beach-1.png

That looks like Griffith Observatory in the background - did San Andreas have a version of that?

I think yeah. I'll post up the map location in a moment.

EDIT: You mean this?

san_andreas_map1.jpg

---------------------------

graffiti2.png

Another view of the Los Santos graffiti... Isn't that wall designed like the one in the 3rd island (Shorseide Vale) of GTA III?

---------------------------

Jai
Pause at 0:31 and there are two cars taken straight from IV.

You mean this? ;)

gtaivcars.png

Jai
Yup, I haven't played GTA 4 in a long time but I recognize the car on the right as the Premier.

The SUV is a Landstalker :) I made a thread for vehicles spotted for reference :)

"Downtown"
"Little Seoul"

Interesting, maybe Korean gangs this time.

------------------------------

cheaphouse.png

Yup, the Futo (AE86) also returns.

-----------------------------

And there is also a guy at around 1:06 which appears to be CJ, however that is a very long shoot.

cj.png

Funny posing LMAO. I don't think this is CJ though

-----------------------

tdu2.png

The background reminds me of TDU1 lol. This seems to be a new area for me...

Jai
That car looks awfully like the Phoenix.

----------------------

shamal.png

The Shamal gets a stripe now? :odd:

----------------------

There's a lot of talk going around the net that it is possibly Tommy Vercetti after he's retired from Vice City and has settled down. I swear its him!

22057901.jpg

Looks quite similar actually, I thought the same thing:

grand-theft-auto-v-20111102102032874.jpg

Maybe he is Vercetti.

Voice over guy sounds like Ray Liotta = Tommy Vercetti

Yeah thats a very good point, although he may have gone somewhere else cold (maybe in hiding) before retuning to the sunshine.

It would be cool if he was the kingpin of different playable characters (maybe from past GTA's) which would explain the different crimes by different people we are seeing in the trailer. After Vice City he was pretty much a made man.

My imagination is getting slightly carried away here! Having him as the main guy would definitely get me interested after I found the location quite disappointing.

------------------------------------

Needless to say, the downtown area looks significantly bigger than GTA SA's Los Santos, and the area and the elements of the city have been re-distributed(similar to what happened with GTA IV).

And the there is an Airship floating over the city, which is at some extent a bit interesting.

And judging by the trailer, is not that advanced from GTA IV, sort of looks similar(obviously better), I was playing yesterday GTA IV and this really looks like GTA San Andreas(or Los Santos or whatever) build on the GTA IV's engine.

Small one, but updated from GTA IV, there's finally brake calipers on cars.

Nice brake calipers! Something missing from GTA IV, albeit a small detail.

venustrailer1wmv1280wmv.jpg

And also, the sunset at the very beginning of the trailer reminds me of MC:LA a lot.

Umm some cars already have brake calipers to begin with in GTAIV.

Only speculating here but with what we saw in the trailer, Could we be made to fly the Cropduster over some fields/plantations and poison the workers in a mission/side mission ?:)

I hope we can fly it whenever over a city. :D

There's another image going around about the old guy, instead of it being Tommy, it could be Claude from GTA III.

Wow, they're similar indeed. Although I think it could be Mitch Hayes, the main FBI agent. Well the character listing has been leaked and I'm referring to that list, but hey, I'm only speculating

And that guy who looks like CJ, I think he's Miguel Gonzalez.

Based on the casting call published by Kotaku, this is how I think the story will go:
The main character is someone who comes to Los Santos looking to escape his former life. However, things get difficult when the FIB use his rap sheet against him, forcing him to become a confidential informant. Because the protagonist wants to protect his family (and avoid prison), he agrees. The early phase of the game would revolve around establishing your credibility in the Los Santos underworld. As the story wears on, we learn that the FIB is very interested in a Scientology-style cult that is popular with celebrities and bored house wives.

The cult is run by Brother Adam, who is looking to take his "religion" to a global level. However, in order to do that, he needs a business partner. The cult uses powerful mind-altering drugs to brainwash its members, and those drugs are currently supplied by a pair of dimwitted local yokels, who have so far managed to avoid capture out of a combination of blind luck and sheer stupidity. Brother Adam cuts a deal with a Mexican drug cartel - in exchange for funding to expand his "religion", the Mexicans will become his exclusive supplier of drugs. At first, this arrangement works. But then (probably through the player's actions), the Mexicans start losing business and territory, and start leaning on Brother Adam, who is not moving as quickly as they would like him to. This creates tension in Los Santos, and the player is caught in the middle of it.
At least, that's how I'd write it.

And the blue convertible can't be a Feltzer. It is definitely a Übermacht, where a Feltzer would have a diamond badge as a Benefactor.

This Übermacht badge is usually red in-game, and is seen fitted to the new blue convertible in the trailer.

The '4-spread-out-legs'-logo () of Dewbauchee, seen on the red, Aston-based convertible.

I think it can safely be established that both cars are new models under each brand.

And we will probably be able to buy houses again (yay!). There's a guy hammering a 'For Sale' sign into his lawn, which seems like a pretty obvious hint to me.

This image, to me, indicates there will be other cities. Otherwise, you would be able to see the sea when looking that way. Could be wrong though...
I keep thinking the same thing. With planes and jets available, I truly think we will be able to fly to other cities. Or if nothing else its wishful thinking.

I wonder if you can actually climb those mountains or if they are just a map edge boundary you can only get to the foot of.

In 1986, Tommy Vercetti was released from jail after serving 15 years of his sentence. That would make him at least in his mid 30s then. 25 years later, in 2011, he would be 60+ years old. That dude doesn't look as old as that.

It'd also be a mistake to bring back a major character like that without using the same voice actor that helped make the character so memorable.

As per the proposed plot in the prisonermonkey's post, that setup is very similar to the setup up for Red Dead Redemption -

Central character is a criminal turned family man, being forced by the FBI to do their dirty work, in order to protect his family. The rest of the plot is of course very different.

This image, to me, indicates there will be other cities. Otherwise, you would be able to see the sea when looking that way. Could be wrong though...
Either that or there is countryside beyond the city and the mountains in the distance mark the edge of the map and you can't go up them beyond a certain point.

I don't think any previous character from the GTA III era will show up in the game.
None of them were in IV and R* made it clear that it was some kind of reboot.
Yes we saw references like the building with the GTA III graffitis but that was it.
I personnally like to discover new characters and however, I believe we will see characters from GTA IV as the two games are in the same era ;)

Just read the official announcement from Rockstar about the game being based in Los santos.

So I'm guessing it's the map will be totally different from San Andreas which will be cool. I really want something that we haven't seen before. 👍

With the fact that there is rumor of multiple playable characters and that 2 of the guys in the trailer look similar to past characters, maybe they are going to combine characters. It would be a long shot, but hey you never know with Rockstar. They'd make it work.

Seriously though, think about it. Tommy and CJ together in San Andreas...

I wouldn't know - I've never played RDR, or even read a treatment of it. I was just trying to find a way to work the protagonist into an existing story idea that I had, based on the casting call.

Look at the woman's face in the black tank top in both of these pictures.

DLBmu.jpg

They look exactly the same in the face. Just by any strange possibility that the trailer is giving a hint that she may have a part in the story. 💡

Yeah good points. All the major Gran Theft Auto releases (apart from story continuations) have had new characters & new stories. This one should probably have a new story different from the original San Andreas. It'd be boring to have the same old storyline, GTA IV had new characters and a good solid plot with Niko & company.

If I was working on the design team, I'd highly recommend against having the map boundary being against those mountains. Its like holding a piece of meat in front of a cage full of lions. :sly:

I believe this will be a re-designed San Andreas with a totally new plot un-related to the original San Andreas.

The water boundary all around seems to work well. I'd be surprised if they used a land boundary in all honesty. If the graphics are up to snuff with GTA IV this should be epic.......:dopey:

No I dont think we'll be flying to Liberty City, although that'd be pretty slick. 💡

The head chief responsible for Gran Theft Auto has said they will not announce anything.....So I'm thinking they may be setting up for a Christmas release. If not Early 2012.

They may have been shooting for Christmas 2011 and just missed their schedule......

Hey guys. Here's a little something I've been working on about GTA V:

And a tentative map with the elements we have so far:

I figured the city seems to be holding a similar layout to GTASA's map, that just proves my theory a bit, it's definitely expanded a bit, I'm still looking forward to seeing the actual size.

WOW Fido you sir never cease to amaze 👍

Edit: That guy looks more like that Elephunt guy who played Agent 47 in the Hitman film only wearing a tan lol

Take any of this with a grain of salt, it would be great if any or most of it come true.

Hi all, I am new to this forum and what I am writing here is not to spam/troll, etc. I work for a Playstation magazine in the UK ( I will not be disclosing any further details....) and a select few of our team have seen via video links with Rockstar in Scotland 30 minutes of in-game footage. I have not, personally, been privy to this unfortunately but I will relay to you what I have heard so far and I promise you that none of this is BS but that is down to the lot of you fans to judge. Ok, here goes:

1: The game world is absolutely massive and will push both xbox and PS3 to the very limit in terms of what it has accomplished. Yes, the main city is simply Los Santos however is it AT LEAST 4 times bigger than Liberty City in GTA 4 and that is just Los Santos. The surrounding country side, beaches, etc are massive. For instance, we saw the main character ( an African/American, early 30's) travel by car from the center of Los Santos into the wildnerness and it took over 15 minutes. The views were incredible from farmhouses with cattle, huge wind farms, an oil refinery which appeared to be living and breathing with nearly 100 NPCs working on machinery, operating vehicles, lifting and loaded, etc, unlike the gas works in GTA 4 which seemed to only house a few NPC at a time. The forests are more beautiful than those in RDR and featured people camping, young NPC drinking and dancing around campfires, people riding dirt bikes and jumping over logs, streams, etc. The water effects, forna, plants, trees all looked beautiful.

2: The shooting mechanics have been greatly improved with animations for diving, climbing, rolling and crawling all added for better realism. The re-loading animations for new ammo also look cooler, less static.

3: There is much more climbable elements in the world such as ladders, overhand climbing, etc.

4: There are animals in the game from dogs to cattle but at this time it is not confirmed if you will be able to harm the animals. Rockstar were able to get away with it in RDR as it was a true depiction of the world in which the game was set. Allowing dogs/cattle to die in a game sent in current times may cause headaches with PETA. Its unclear if Rockstar were joking here.

5: There are planes to pilot and they can be crashed into buildings if you choose to do so....

6: Rockstar have included many, many more interior locations such as a shopping mall, college campus, police station, a huge hospital and there is also a vast underground sewer network which one mission later in the game involves a jet ski chase that culminates in a Fugitive-esque waterfall jump ( there are nods to the ridiculous but awesome Ballad Of Gay Tony missions)

7: The city is full of NPCs jogging, weight-lifting, hitting on women, being chased on foot by cops, shopping, washing cars, fixing fences, moving home, filling up their cars, etc.

REAL JUICY INFO:

1: Cars can be upgraded/repaired and it has been considered to have a car have fuel forcing the player to fill her up.

2: The dating aspect of the game is gone. You still have a cell-phone but only people you will meet in the game will call you to ask you to do a mission or to ask you to do something else before the mission.

3: Weapons include the usual arsenal you'd aspect but the flamethrowers, remote mines, laxer trip mines and claymores are included. It is possible now to pick up random objects in a street/buidling to use as a weapon. There is also a museam where it is possible to steal old age swords, axes, etc.

4: it is possible to rupture a fuel line and if you shot at the trail of gasoline it will lead straight back to the car blowing it up.

5: mini games such as bowling, darts, etc have all gone. You can play basketball, weight train, arm wrestle, gamble and cage fight, enter triatholons, water races, cannoing, ab-saling, rock climbing, base jumping, ski diving. More to be confirmed.

6: Character customisation is back but only in terms of clothing, body weight, etc. The player you start off which, much like CJ, can't be altered by race, age, height, etc.

7: Rockstar said burglary missions may return but only as part of missions and not on neigbourhood houses.

8: No children NPC at all. Ever.

9: There is now an ability to grab people and use as sheilds or in "hostage" situations.

10: The cops are much, much, much more realistic. If you kill somebody when you know there are no cops around you will not run the risk of a one star as often as you would in GTA4. The cops will use smoke and tear gas, dogs, riot gear and rams to knock down the doors of buildings you are hiding in.

11: You can enter some buildings and lock doors, push objects in the way to barricade.

12: You become better at things as the game progresses. If you only ride motorbikes then you will increase your skills, same as individual weapons.

13: Certain weapons can be customisable and some even home-made.

14: One mission involves breaking out a very familiar GTA icon from a previous game...

15: Torrential rain fall and sunshine and even tremors will appear in the game.

I think the only thing I don't want is refueling, even then that's not a major issue to me.

This looks like it could be some serious fun, especially when claymores are officially confirmed :)

The number 10 rumor would be great aswell.

Some awesome info, doubt it's actual insider info IMO. Does give some awesome ideas as to what R* could even imagine to put into a new game though. Here's to hoping :)
