From it's humble beginnings as a small, Spec-Miata based racing series using slightly modified 1989 Mazda MX-5 Miata's, to the arrival of the 1989 Mazda MX-5 Touring Car, the FMSC has remained constant in it's pursuit to bring the best online racing to Gran Turismo 5. Now on the eve of it's fourth season, the FMSC has joined forces with PURE (PUreRacingEvolution) to enhance your racing experience.

This season, the FMSC will effectively split into two racing classes. First, the Hard Dog Challenge Series will bring together drivers from all over the world and place them into the Spec prepared 2007 Mazda MX-5 models. This series will run on Sport Hard rubber, with Brake Balance as the only item allowed to be openly adjusted.

To find out more about the Hydra Tuning World Championship, please go HERE.

This series will be running either a single division, or two divisions based on qualifying attendance. To help with the varied schedules of each driver and to open registrations to drivers in European countries, we'll be running these races at the same early time of the day. Each division will be combined into a single points table, and drivers will accumulate points based on race finishing position, and bonus points described below.

Each grid size will be based on total number of qualifying times.

Division 1 Race Information:

  • Races will be held on Saturdays at 2:00PM EST. Room opens at 1:00PM EST (Convert HERE)
  • Races will be approximately 45 minutes in length.
  • Open practice is allowed upon entry.
  • Track resets for Grid placement at 1:45PM EST
  • Microphones are not allowed during the race, please turn them OFF
  • Drivers are highly encouraged to race CLEAN
  • If you have a problem with another driver, please send them a PM
  • Pit stops are NOT required.

Division 2 Race Information: (if necessary)

  • Races will be held on Saturdays at 2:00PM EST. Room opens at 1:00PM EST (Convert HERE)
  • Races will be approximately 45 minutes in length.
  • Open practice is allowed upon entry.
  • Track resets for Grid placement at 1:45PM EST
  • Microphones are not allowed during the race, please turn them OFF
  • Drivers are highly encouraged to race CLEAN
  • If you have a problem with another driver, please send them a PM
  • Pit stops are NOT required.

Anyone that is on the current registration list is allowed to open a practice room, as long as there is not already one open. It is highly recommended that when you leave, make sure random people that are not part of the series do not take over the room.

Recommended Room Settings:
  • Connection: NAT Type 1 or NAT Type 2
  • Microphones: OFF
  • Race Quality: High
Event Settings:
  • Boost: OFF
  • Penalty: NONE
  • Grip Reduction: REAL
  • Visible Damage: OFF
  • Mechanical Damage: OFF
  • Slipstream: WEAK
  • Tire / Fuel Consumption: ON
  • Grid Type: Grid with False Start Check
Regulation Settings:
  • Performance Points: Unrestricted
  • Power: Unrestricted
  • Weight: Unrestricted
  • Drivetrain: FR
  • Tire Restrictions: Sports Hard
  • Vehicle Tuning: Restricted
  • Skid Recovery: OFF
  • Driving Line: OFF
  • Active Steering: OFF
  • TCS: OFF
  • ASM: OFF
  • ABS: Optional

Qualifying Procedure:
  • Each driver will be allowed one (x1) attempt at qualifying for each weeks race using the following format:
    • Race set to 4 laps
    • Lap 1 = Warmup
      [*]Lap 2 = Timed
      [*]Lap 3 = Timed
      [*]Lap 4 = Cool down & exit
  • Your single best lap time from laps 2 & 3 will count towards your grid placement.
  • Qualifying runs can be made on a daily basis through one of the race stewards. If you need to qualify for the current event, post in this thread that you would like to make a qualifying run around a certain time, and a race steward should contact you shortly.
  • Saturday is last day to make a qualifying attempt! We will NOT be taking qualifying runs later than 2 hours before the race(s).
  • If there are open spots on the grid, drivers who have not qualified can join the race, but will retain a provisional start at the rear of the field.
  • 14 total grid spots are open for each division. This leaves two spots open in the room, 1 for the Race Director and 1 for an assistant, should there be one available.
  • Drivers that are unsuccessful at qualifying for the Hydra Tuning World Championship races will be allowed to attend the Hard Dog Challenge Series race for that day. These drivers will not be allowed to qualify for the HDCS, but will start with a provisional at the rear of the field.

Race Procedure:
  • Drivers will enter the track based on qualifying times, as instructed by the Race Director. Wait until your name has been called!
  • After entering the track, drivers are to line up behind the lead car and wait for the race to begin.
  • Please refrain from honking horns or moving your car. Park in one spot and stay there.
  • Once everyone is in line and ready to start, the race director will begin the 40 second countdown, and the race will begin.
  • Races do NOT require a mid-race pit stop. You can, if you so choose to, make a pit stop to change tires at any time.

1. Race Stewards

The people listed below are given rights to authorize rules and regulations in my absence, should they arise. If I am not around to answer a specific question, or cannot attend a race for personal reasons, drivers should contact any of them for answers.

  • *Accepting entries for volunteers*
2. Basic Rule Set

The following rule set is based on the GTPlanet OnLine Racing (OLR) Rules & Guidlines posted HERE. The following rules may have been modified for use in FMSC and will be strictly inforced:

  1. You are expected to compete in a fair and honest manner. With fair and honest is meant according to the these rules, and the GTP online racing rules, not according to your own interpretation of fair and honest.
  2. You are expected to drive responsibly in a way that’s not likely to ruin the racing enjoyment of your fellow drivers.
  3. You are expected not to submit to bad general behaviour under all circumstances.
  4. The position of other drivers must always be respected.
  5. Cutting the chicanes or "shorting" the track at any point is strictly prohibited on all parts of the track, including the asphalt-areas behind out-of track-lines. Taking shortcuts to make up time during a race will NOT be tolerated!
  6. No careless driving. Always show respect for your fellow racers. Be careful. Show some patience. Understand the limitations of your car and yourself and drive accordingly.
  7. Quitting the race and parking your car on the side of the race track is distracting to other drivers, and is strictly prohibited.
  8. If you are found guilty of any of these rules, the behavior will be evaluated and penalty assessed by the Race Steward(s).
  9. As a general rule, if there isn’t a stated rule, then the rules as they are within a program will apply - both intentional and coincidental. I.e. the way a matter is handled by a racing program is the way that it will be interpreted by the Race Steward(s).
3. Event Participation

If for any reason you know prior to a race you’ll be unable to attend, please PM me as soon as possible. If you fail to advise me of your intention to be absent in sufficient time before the start of any two consecutive events, you run the risk of being excluded from future events.

  • Make sure your car colors are final, as they can NOT be changed after the season has started.
  • Please use generic color names when registering. (Blue, Red, Yellow, etc)
  • Chrome colored cars are prohibited. (Wheels are OK)
  • If you have already registered and need to make changes, please PM me. Do NOT re-register.
  • Drivers that register then promptly fail to show up for the first race will be deleted from the registration list, unless you notify me otherwise.
  • During the season if you miss a race you will be replaced by a Reserve Driver for that race. If you miss more than two races in a row without contacting me or a race steward, you will be dropped from the series.

Any idea of time frame to see the schedule?

I'm trying to make this like a support series, so wherever the Hydra cars are, the Hard Dog Challenge will be at a similar (or same) track.

What we're looking at for now:

Suzuka East
Clubman Stage 5
Grand Valley East: Reverse
Laguna Seca
Indy Road
Nurburgring GP/D

I'm looking to join this instead of the RX7's as the time for this is better for me than it was last season, I'm confused for which FMSC to join?

The times look like you can do both :D as this finishes 1hour and 15mins before the D1 room opens in the Hydra Tuning World Championship. So I will concider joining. (Probably with the same colours ;).)

What's the differences? I'm on the iPod so I can't really see the OP correctly unless I'm on a computer.

And what's the big series?

Edit: I see this runs on the Road Car, will be taking my business to the Hydra series. 👍

The differences are this series is a stock Mx5 NC 2007 and the Hydra Tuning World Series is a tuned Mx5 TC ;).

Surprised none of the weekday 86 racers want a shot at this.

Why don't you make one of the divisions weekday then? I hear a lot of hollering for a good weekday series. I'm sure you could find someone willing to host it that's qualified to do so.

I was thinking about signing up for this series or the Hydra Tuning World Series, but have just been sitting on the sidelines for the time being to see who else was going to sign up  I like this series because it removes the rather time consuming element of tuning (I don't want to make a job out of something that gives me little in return lol), and puts everyone on a 100% even playing field - But at the same time, the HTWS will probably attract more skilled players.

I'm still on the fence as to which series I will join, if I actually end up joining one at all. Unfortunately with GT5's ever growing number of bugs/glitches and dwindling turn outs, I may just end up being forced to go back to PC sims.

For now I'll keep my eyes peeled on the entrance list for these 2 series 👍

This is great, can't wait for the season to start!

Really surprised this isn't very popular. If we fail to reach a full field before race time, this may just disappear.

I'd love to join, but i'm not sure I can commit, I don't want you guys to expect me at every race and I only show up for one..

Me too, if this was on any weekday except a Wednesday then I would join in an instant.

It seems that there are very few series that run on week nights at the moment.

I would, but in your case it wouldn't matter anyway because it wouldn't start until 9pm EST, which I believe is around 2am your time.

RT how many have signed up for this so far?

If I am in Hydra, I can also sign up for this? :D With same teams, mates, and all that?

If it were me running this - I'd make this a weeknight series.

No teams in this series.

If it were me running this - I'd make this a weeknight series.

The problem being that I don't get home until 9pm EST, and when I do I don't really feel like running a racing series. If I did, it would be on Tuesdays or Thursdays as any other day has TV programs I like to watch. The 86 series has been an exception, however. And if we run it during the weeknights, then we instantly exclude anyone from Europe that would like to participate.

Double post.

I can run the room for you RT, just not race. It can be at any time during the week before 9pm EST or as early as you'd need. So anything reasonable from noon EST to 9pm EST would work , on any day. 👍

That could work. One room or two?

I can do either.

I signed up so that I can get more Miata practice as I barely have driven one other than the A-Spec event

So are we gonna go ahead and go weekday?
